I rarely get to see my boys and today I get to. The youngest one's wife and step-son have left for a trip so he checked in with me this morning. I suggested he stop by and see what all has been done here at our new home - he hasn't seen it since 'moving day'. So we agreed for him, his daughter, and my nephew stop by around 11am. Told him if he would stop and buy drinks cause we were out of ice (Dr Pepper for hubby of course), I'd fix chicken tenders and french fries for lunch. Sounds like a plan, right? And cheaper than going out to eat.
Well, then my oldest son checks in and says 'I heard the youngest son was coming over around 11 to have lunch with you. Mind if I drop in too?' Of course he could come too! LOL I'm cracking up by this time. He says he doesn't want any lunch but would stop by. No problem.
Except now I go to my freezer to see how much chicken strips I have. Uh.... like 1/2 a bag. I had bought several from schwans last month... but we like them too, so I guess that we used up what we had. (note to self - contact schwans for delivery). I do have an unopened bag of french fries. Where did all my tater tots go! Guess we like them a lot too cause they are so easy to put in the air fryer and fix. Now what?
LOL No problem. I had a bag of meatballs so have those now in the crockpot. No grape jelly so soaked them in BBQ sauce. I can fix what I have of the strips, I also have a couple breaded chicken fillets I can add to it, and of course french fries. No worries. I need to clean out my freezer anyway.
Besides, they are coming to see the house and me / us - so it's not about the food, right? I also bought a veggie tray yesterday so that will help. Yeah, finally made a run to Costco. What a disappointment. So much of the things that were easy to find, were no longer available. For example, I wanted to get the mini bagels - none were to be found. So, later today or tomorrow will make a run to Fry's cause we only need one gallon of milk, not two, and there were a few other things that I wanted to get that we don't two or more of.
I finally put some stickies on the wall where I want some pictures hung up. Still need to bring in the senior pictures of my children plus the grandchildren and get them hung up too. I finally found that box and it's still in the garage. My big table is still laden down with dishes. It's been so very hard, but I have made the decision pretty much that whoever wants them can have them. The rest can go into the Goodwill box, which I've already started this morning. My plan is to work in the garage this afternoon after the boys leave. Don't want to get hot and smelly before. I have to continuously ask myself - why are you keeping this - you have 1) never used it and you've had it for years or 2) you used it way back when and you are hanging onto it because..... sigh. I love my dishes, but I definitely can't take them with me when I die so if I'm not using them, and someone else can, I need to let them go.
I'm hoping my nephew will be interested in some things I've been putting aside for when he gets his own apartment. I think it is still a couple months down the road, but even so, he needs to start planning ahead. I have a George Foreman grill that I no longer need cause my sister sent me a smokeless grill. I don't need two. I did use it a lot before though. Especially when I am cooking ribs. I also have a toaster oven that I have had for probably 35 years and probably haven't used but once that entire time. It was a Christmas gift from hubby a few years after we were married, and of course I haven't been able to get rid of it. Now's my chance. I also have a set of dishes that I can give to my nephew and glasses. I sure hope that he will say he will take them. Better yet, I'd like it a lot of my youngest son would say he could store them. But that in itself is no big deal as I have plenty of storage space.
Well, I've rambled on enough so will hush. I hope my daughter, grandson, and son-in-law take a rest day - they sure have been working hard helping us get things done on our place. I am so very grateful for all they have done. (don't tell them I put up some flowers and stuff on the wall 'all by myself'. I just wanted to do it.... hubby hasn't even noticed. LOL) Do you know how hard it is to push a nail into the wall without a hammer? I didn't want hubby to come in and demand to do it. I wanted to do it 'all by myself'. and I did. :-) I am a happy camper.
Slept a little later than usual this morning and when I got up it was nice to take Sheeba out on the front patio and just sit outside and drink my coffee and read. I really do need to get to walking her again. God has given us another beautiful day.
Blessings!
