It's Almost Over..... we're down to hours....

Yeah, 2014 is on it's way out. I can remember when we looked forward to a new year - had bright new ideas for the new year, things to do, etc. And now, as I sit here and ponder 2015 coming in tonight..... I wonder where have I come from, and where do I want to go? Do I have any 'goals' or 'resolutions' for this coming year?

I have nothing. Well, I suppose I could sit down and seriously think about some goals. Losing weight is always a goal, as is getting out of debt. But what else? What could be some good goals for this coming year?

Read at least one book a month? That is a good goal. Enrich the mind.

Experiment with a new (cooking) dish once a month? Another good goal. Feed the body.

Get organized? That has been on my list for 20 years! Probably won't happen this year either.

Get uncluttered? Doubtful that will happen as well.

There are probably a few other things I could list.... but are they of any value - to anyone - or to me?

So, for now, I'm just pondering what I should choose to change in me. What do I need to work on. I'm talking one specific thing, not 'my life'.

I'm planning on doing a 21 day fast again in January 2015. Instead of January 1 through January 21 as before, I'm thinking of doing it January 4 through January 25th. Sunday to Sunday to Sunday - and ending on Sunday. In fact, this Sunday I speak at one of the RV parks - and my topic is from Matthew 6:25-34 - "First Things First". May be I can influence someone else to take a step of faith to see what God can - and will - do in their life.

I just had the most amusing experience! One of our directors just came in and was acting up - being silly (and I have never seen her that way!) and she was doing it for 'my' enjoyment - not knowing that my boss (who is her boss as well) was in her office! Cracked me up!

With that - I think I will ponder some more on what I want to gain from 2015. Certainly not weight! But what do I want to achieve. What about you? Are you setting goals? Resolutions? Going to quit...... Going to go....... Going to treat others better? Quit yelling? Quit forming your own opinions - and verbalizing them? Going to straighten your life out and get it on the right track? Going to pursue a new job? Going to excel in the one you have?

The choice is yours. What are you going to do?? Happy 2015. May your new year be all you want it to be. You have a blank page tomorrow. What are you going to fill it with?

Blessings!

Still getting presents..... I feel special....

I received an unexpected package in the mail yesterday from my little sister. I didn't expect us to exchange gifts so hadn't done any shopping. Saw some things she might like, but didn't buy anything while I was out. She always finds the most unique books and gifts and each package I receive from her is a treasure. This one was no exception. Inside I found a book, 'Instant Happy' by Karen Salmansohn with little sayings throughout the book. I enjoyed it and many of the things brought a smile. Another gift was a cool pair of white boot slippers. WARM. NICE. and the third gift inside the package was a real surprise - a beautiful cross ring. It looks like amesyst (sp) cross with diamonds on the top/bottom and middle points. Beautiful ring - and it fits perfectly! I felt guilty cause I received this beautiful package from her - and I didn't send but a card. But she said she didn't mean to put me on a guilt trip - she saw them and just wanted to send - which was why she didn't send before Christmas. Anyway - it is a very nice gift and I am enjoying them.

Came back to work yesterday for a full day. I did get a set of minutes completed, but not much else. It was a different type of day. By that I mean we got to work to discover that one of our former vice presidents (who moved on to corporate as a vice president) died last Saturday. It wouldn't be so remarkable except that she had not been sick. She took care of her mother, who lived with her. A very successful career woman, never married. She was only 48. It kind of puts life in perspective and that we don't know if we will wake up the next day. She went to bed Friday night - and when she didn't arise Saturday morning, her mother went to see if she was ok - only to find her dead in the bed. An autopsy is going to per performed to see what happened. 48 years old.

I think how old I am now - and the possibility of that happening to me. Earlier last week our neighbor's mother died in her sleep. But she was 99. That is pretty much expected at that age. But at 48, she was just beginning to live.

Makes me want to get my house decluttered and cleaned - I don't want people to come in to my house with it looking like it does now! Yipes! So much 'stuff' to dispose of!! And I want to get bills paid off. I wonder if I started playing the lottery if I would ever win enough to pay off my bills. Wouldn't that be a God-send! That is my priority this year. A friend of mine here at work shared what she has followed for years. She carries this 'list' in her checkbook, her wallet, and has it where she can see it when she is tempted to buy something.

Get out of debt goals:

1. Make a budget. (and stick to it - don't just make it and work around it - use it)

2. Get out of debt. (make that your priority.)

3. Act your wage. (don't spend more than you make. You make a certain amount - don't overspend)

4. Be a saver. (start with $5 a week and put in a savings account - and don't touch it. When you get a raise, put the amount of your raise in the savings account. Save any extra, don't spend it)

5. Give money. (Interestingly, my friend said she doesn't give to the homeless on the street. She instead will give $20 to a funeral car wash or to someone whom she knows is really in need)

So there you have it. I probably have already shared these - in looking at them, I am sure I have. Oh well. I really like it so I copied it down and have it placed where I can see it. I'm sure I will 'fall off the wagon' somewhere with spending, but for the past couple weeks, I have been really good. I quit going out shopping two weeks before Christmas - I just quit. If I had gone out, a sale would have prompted me to buy something else for someone - and then I'd have to get something else for another - and another.... I probably saved quite a bit by not going out. I did go out on Sunday - I had a $30 gift card to Kohls and $30 Kohls cash to spend. And I used every bit of it. Now I'm staying away!

Have you ever wondered what it would feel like to live 'free' of financial burdens? It seems most of us have always had them. If we find we have a little extra money, we tend to see if we can spend it on something we 'need'. But, if we needed it, wouldn't we have already gotten it? God doesn't want us to live burdened by financial problems. He says we need to trust Him to provide for all our needs. And I have decided to do just that. We are pulling in the reins and seeing where God is going to provide - and if He doesn't - did we really need it?

How many things have we bought - and never used - or used once - and then thrown away, gave away, sold? I am so guilty of that. This year I want to pay attention to what I'm doing and not just shop for the sake of shopping. I want to make an impact on my debt. I want to live debt free. I want to see how God will provide for those things I NEED. I don't need what I think I want. This may prove to be an interesting year!

Blessings!

Tis the day AFTER Christmas and all through the house....

is so b-o-r-i-n-g..... After this I think I will go try to read and let myself fall asleep for a nap. I don't want to go to the stores - although I could - and I still might - but if I go, I will spend money I really don't have to spend. I did get a Kohl's card for Christmas so have been thinking of going up there.... but I really really really do hate crowds - especially after Christmas crowds. I may go out tomorrow afternoon - most will have already gotten there. Not sure what I will look for, but will look for something. Oh wait - I can use the card online and I won't have to go out at all!

Christmas went really nice, although a couple children commented it would have been nice to be with their siblings. However, 'it is what it is' at this point in time.

We started Christmas morning at 5AM, hubby and I, and with coffee in hand, the fireplace roaring, we opened our gifts. I was delighted hubby got me one thing I had asked for this year. I wanted a 7 quart crock pot. He did one better. He got me an eight quart crock pot. Love it. I fixed ham and eggs for our breakfast afterwards and we settled down to wait on the first group to come by.

The early morning started with the youngest child and his family coming over - and it went well, I think. We had "breakfast" for the grandchildren to munch on after opening their gifts. I think all were pleased with what they got.

Late morning my middle child with his family came over to exchange gifts. Again, I think it went well, and I think I was able to surprise one or two with their gifts. Afterwards we had lunch and sat and around and chatted for a bit. It was very good.

Late afternoon my oldest child with her family came over to exchange gifts. Yes, I did get the grandson his requested Christmas gift of 50 oatmeal cookies. I had tried to pretend I wouldn't have time to get it done, but I did, and he was really surprised. That was fun. I think all liked their gifts; we had pork loin for dinner that I cooked in my new crock pot. And it was very good.

This morning we went to a neighbor's mother's funeral. It was a different type than we had been to - it was at Beth Israel Cemetery as she was Jewish. The Rabbi did the ceremony and I found it beautiful and peaceful. It took less than an hour and we headed back home. It was interesting that the Rabbi brought over a piece of black cloth to the two sisters, maybe a 1"x4" piece, and spoke Hebrew over the two sisters, then pinned it to their top. Then he tore it about half way up. He told them to wear it for seven days (7 is the number for complete; and the black is for mourning). I hadn't seen that part before - but it took me to the movie "The Jazz Singer" with Neil Diamond in which his father, upon "catching" his beloved son and 'this woman' together, he tore his coat and said his son was dead, he was no more. So in thinking about that, and watching the Rabbi explain to the two sisters about the black cloth and tearing it, I was reminded of how we should mourn for those who pass on, but that the grief should not consume us. We need to let them go. Hold on to the memories, but not the the grief to where it overwhelms us. Another things I found interesting is that when the Rabbi said what we call the "Lord's Prayer", instead of 'Lord', he said 'God'. and a couple other things were changed. But I liked it.

Do I still tear up at times when I think of my oldest brother dying on Christmas Eve in 2001? Yes. Do I still choke up when I think of things my mother and I used to talk about? Sure I do. And my little brother, I never cease to choke up when I think of losing his 3 children in a fire in 1986 and then him in 1997. It still hurts. But the time of mourning is complete, and I need to continue to live.

I'm glad I was off work today and able to go to the funeral. Afterwards I fixed lunch for hubby and I, then we went to Barnes and Noble to use his gift card - and then off to Starbucks. Home now, he is back in his room - probably reading - and here I am. I'm a little chilly although it is a beautiful day outside. I have my new blanket wrapped on my shoulders and now I'm ready to snuggle down and take a little nap. Why not - I can sleep past 4AM tomorrow - it's Saturday.

My days are all messed up!

Christmas has come and gone; and this 'day after' is more than half over. I think I will take that nap.

Blessings!

and it is now the day before Christmas....

and I'm at work. But the good news is, I don't have to stay all day! In fact, my boss said that I could leave even earlier than the office closing time..... cause I come in early all the time! I'll still probably wait until the time I was thinking of leaving.

Been thinking about the things I want to get done before tomorrow morning. Need to stop at the store for a couple things on my way home. Food, not gifts. Can't buy any more gifts.

Then I remembered I wanted to do a bit more baking today - and a couple other things to make.

I had a grandson tell me he wanted 50 oatmeal cookies for Christmas from me. As he was leaving the other night, he mentioned it again, and I told him that I didn't know if I would have time to do that. He looked disappointed but went on out to the vehicle. A moment later he was back at the door - "if you can't bake the cookies, would you make me your cheese ball?" I had to laugh! That young man is in for a big surprise tomorrow morning.

Tomorrow morning. It's hard to believe that not only is Christmas almost here, but 2015 is right around the corner. It is almost scary to see another year has passed us by. It brings many questions to mind - such as...

Did I love my family more this year? Do they know it?
Did I accomplish even one thing I wanted to this year?
have I made a difference in someone's life this year?
did I grow mentally this year?
did I make amends?
did I forgive?
and so many more questions.....

Christmas. I love this time of year. Not for the gifts - I love to give gifts to everyone. But I love the celebration of the birth of our Saviour.

Why do people bother to celebrate Christmas if they don't believe in Christ - the reason for our celebration?

God gave us His one and only begotten Son, that we should not perish, but have everlasting life.

The greatest Gift ever. Celebrate Him!

Merry Christmas!

Blessings!

Back at work.... and an out of character experience....

Yeah, I'm back to work for a day and a half this week. With having Monday, Thursday and Friday off - and 1/2 day Wednesday due to Christmas Eve, it will almost seem like I haven't been at work! I was able to get a lot done while off, not as much as I had planned, but enough. At least I don't have to panic and wonder what I forgot to get done - if it isn't done, isn't bought - it ain't going to happen. Not this year.

Unless I get in the mode for baking tomorrow afternoon, I'm done with baking. And things for Christmas morning, lunch, dinner, etc - well, they can't be started until Christmas so guess that they will stay in the freezer. I'm praying for a good day Thursday. Hopefully the grandchildren will be ok with their gifts.

How does one find joy again when they have been hurt so badly? Maybe it is the continuous things that happen that just keep building up. Hmmmmm. Finding joy. I met up with a co-worker in the breakroom this morning while I was making coffee and getting water for my boss and I. She was over the top excited. She said that she didn't care if nothing else got done, this was the best Christmas ever for her.

When I asked her why, she said her son was coming home for Christmas - and he had not been home in over 10 years. In fact, he also was going to meet his 6 year old daughter he has never met. As I was mentally trying to sort this out, she explained. Her son is now 40, but in his 20's and 30's had gotten into drugs. He did some bad things, got in trouble - finally was jailed and had been in jail (for at least six years?) in another state. She has not seen him since he was put in prison in Reno. But he is coming home for Christmas. Her story made me cry. Result of all my pent-up emotions or the situation? I don't know. I told her I was so happy for her, and that I pray she has a blessed Christmas.

She did something totally out of the ordinary. I only know this person by sight - she works in another department and I only see her on occasion. But she came running over to me and grabbed me and gave me a big hug, with tears coming down her face. She was so appreciative of my joy for her joy.

Isn't it amazing that when we take a few moments of our time to give to someone else, to hear their story, to share their joy (or sorrow), how much it touches them. And it touches us. I am joyful for her - as a mom, there is great joy when loved ones are near. Men just don't get it. And usually don't care. But moms do. Treasured times.

Blessings!

One more day off.....

Today is my last day off that I took as a vacation day.... and yes, I'm up early. In fact, didn't sleep much last night and got up at 4AM because I couldn't go back to sleep. Things on my mind. Had to send my reports from work out this morning. The person who was to send them for me, found last week she could not get into one of the reports. So I told her I'd just send them both out. Problem now is that one of the reports has not been updated since Saturday, so I will need to check back on the report again until it gets updated.

Today will be a busy day as I need to make sure I have everything purchased for gifts, groceries for the week, and finish up other things I need to get done. Hubby wants to go to Glendale Glitters tonight so we may do that as well. Will see how the day turns out.

God tells us that He is with us through all our troubles and our problems. I'm glad He is. It was a tough day yesterday about some things..... yet, I was able to get a lot of baking done. When I'm hurting I can't just sit still. So I baked. And baked. It dawned on me this morning that I may have forgotten to put one ingredient in a batch of cookies. I haven't checked yet so am wondering about that. Distractions of the mind, you know.

I felt like I hit bottom yesterday. That doesn't happen often. And I'm not going to go in to it. Only to say some people can be cruel and selfish and thoughtless. I think that captures it pretty well. My plans did not go as I planned, and I was extremely disappointed.

But I am on my way up. I have a busy day ahead of me, and as I pray about the situation, I am going to trust God for the outcome. He won't take me back to before this time, but He can help me move on from here. There is a scripture that says He is with the broken-hearted. So I know He is with me.

Back to work tomorrow all day, and a half day on Wednesday. Then I'm off Thursday AND Friday. I love the Company I work for - they are generous with giving us time off for holidays.

Got to check reports again. I paln to have a good day - and hope you do as well!

Blessings!

Awaiting the 'Second Round'

I had so much fun with the three grandchildren yesterday - I am waiting for four others to arrive today to bake cookies and make Christmas mice. It's amazing how fast we got through with the baking. The oldest grandson and I talked about it yesterday - how fast they were getting the cookies completed and ready to bake - they aren't little kids anymore who need a lot of oversight! All three are nearly 'grown up' - well, two, anyway. They didn't need much supervision as in a few years ago. We were able to quickly get through the cookies, then the mice, and even had time to sit down, watch a short Christmas movie favorite (Gumby), and play a couple games of Sequence before their parents stopped by to pick them up. It was so much fun for me.

And I plan to have fun again today. The next 'second round' of grandchildren arrive within the hour. Same thing - cookies and Christmas mice. Not sure if there will be time for a game as one or two of these may need a bit more supervision. But even with that - it will be fun spending time with them. I haven't been able to get this group very often as they have always lived so far away. We never could get our schedules to work out. But it will be fun today and I'm looking forward to it.

I did make the gingersnaps yesterday - and they were really good! In fact, I ended up making a second batch as the first were so good - and I will share them with others. I had fun with two of my brothers commenting on facebook about my comment of making gingersnaps. I've really enjoyed the baking - perhaps because I haven't been buried with it. I do have some baking to do Christmas Eve, but they are for a gift so it's all ok. I have discovered with my baking yesterday morning I am nearly out of sugar and flour. Need to pick more up before another batch of baking, I'm thinking.

Just filling in time today with this note as the grandchildren should be here any time. Guess I need to get off and get the table set up for their baking. It's all good.

I'm glad I have all my shopping and wrapping completed. How are you doing?

Blessings!

Twas the Saturday before Christmas......

for the moment, I am enjoying the quiet morning. Hubby has gone to church to the men's breakfast and I'm home with Marley. Too cold (at 43 degrees) for me to even want to go out and do anything. Of course, with my Christmas shopping completed, I only need to make a run to the grocery store for more baking things.

Yeah. Baking things. I get the first group of grandchildren this afternoon and I can't wait! I absolutely love the time I get to spend with each of the grandchildren and I love this part of the Christmas preparations. Yes, it is time-consuming, but I hope, time of precious memories. (Yeah, there I go again with the memory thing)

I get three grandsons today, tomorrow three grandsons and a granddaughter, and Monday the remaining two grandchildren. We will bake cookies (and if I have the ingredients, I let them make whatever they want!) and of course the biggie is the Christmas mice. The grandchildren seem to get the biggest kick out of making those. I'm trying to find more things but most take too much preparation and I'm for quick and easy and fun.

I cut out some steps today - bought the Pillsbury sugar cookie dough - it's pretty basic for cookies, and then I have some things they can put in the cookie dough - or roll it out and do cutouts. Yeah, got cookie cutters too. It's all good - and it's all fun. Best part? I send it all home with the grandchildren when they leave!

I really don't want to do my own baking for gifts until Sunday or Monday as I won't be back at work until Tuesday (yeah, I took Monday off too) and I want the cookies to be fresh. Christmas is on Thursday this year so don't want to do too far in advance. Yes, I can put in containers and they will be fine - but still..... I baked up a lot of my cranberry pumpkin nut bread and took too many out of the freezer last Wednesday to thaw for delivery on Thursday. I ended up bringing a few back home and they sit in the refrigerator. I'll have hubby take some over to the neighbor on one side, and I'll take to the one on the other. I'm sure some of the grandchildren may want to take some as well. I don't think there will be a problem in getting rid of it. Although I'm not sure how well my children like it.

I don't know how I got all my Christmas shopping completed so early. I don't know that I started real early, but perhaps because I limited myself and had to watch the $$ so tried to keep things in perspective. I'm thinking of one grandson I'm not sure if I have enough for him so now I'm second guessing myself. But it's all good. If he looks disappointed after we open gifts, I'll pull him aside and tell him I'll take him out for a treat by himself some time. He likes to 'run away' with me some times anyway. I truly hate to disappoint anyone, and I hope what I've chosen will be ok for them all.

Well, I need to get busy and get some of my things done. I did find a gingersnap recipe I thought I might try this morning. I love gingersnaps - and I still have a container of molasses that my mother gave me years ago that I've never opened or used. So, mother has been gone 10 years now, so I've had the molasses at least 12 years. Yeah, things like that don't get 'old'. Should be fun.

Hope that you take some time this season to sit down and really think about what the season is all about. It isn't about the gifts, the hustle and bustle of shopping till you drop. It isn't the cookie baking and the giving away. It's all about Jesus.

If you don't know Jesus personally, take some time to get to know Him. Talk to Him. He'll help you learn of Him. What a gift that would be!

Blessings!

So glad I am staying home....

I took today off as a vacation day. Why? Because if I don't use it - I lose it. Yeah, we have to use up our vacation days before December 31 or we lose them. Now, my company is very good to us with vacation days, holidays, and other days off - but I don't want to lose any of MY days. So why am I glad I am staying home this morning? Because it is dark outside. It rained last night (and is still dripping) and the impression I am getting is that it is COLD outside - and I don't like being cold. My van sits outside so it isn't protected, which means when I get in it - in this season - it is COLD inside too. Of course I only have to go about a mile before it is warmed up - but still.....

I woke up about 2:15AM this morning and could not go back to sleep. I did the 'who do I need to pray for, Lord?' and did some prayers. Finally about 3:15AM or so I just got up to do my quiet time. I had set the alarm for 6AM. I waited until hubby got up about 5:45AM to come out and send the work reports I still do, although I am not 'officially' working today. Reports are sent, thought I would attempt a few lines here before I decide what to do today.

No, I didn't have anything specific to take off for. I am finished with my shopping an until the remainder that I ordered online comes in, my wrapping is done as well. As Christmas is still a week away, it is too early to make some things. Although I will be making some to take to our potluck at work tomorrow. I need to do the grocery route - after it gets light - and pick up some things for this weekend. I finally get to have the grandchildren over to do our annual baking of cookies and making Christmas mice.

Saturday afternoon I plan to get my middle child's children; Sunday afternoon the youngest child's children, and then Monday afternoon my oldest child's children. I took Monday off too and will be using that day to finish up all my baking for the office. I will take my boss's gift in tomorrow. It's just easier and I am just giving her salsa and stuff. It's tradition. We agreed no bought gifts this year.

I know I will have to cook breakfast this morning..... when I'm home I have to cook..... so guess I need to figure out what to feed hubby so that I can start on my "want to do" list.

So what are you doing today? I imagine some of you will head to work soon. Be careful on these cold and wet roads! One son has his cardiologist appointment. One son has to go to work and travel all over the valley. My daughter has to head to the east side of town. Me.... I'm staying in for awhile before escape to the store. :)

Food for thought - what are you thankful for this year? I'm thankful for my health. I got word yesterday my cousin has uterine cancer which has spread to her liver and lymph nodes. What a horrible thing to receive just before the holidays. My prayers go out for healing, for peace and for comfort to her.

Blessings!

And now we're down to 10.....

10 days that is. Where is the time going? Although it doesn't seem to be flying by, it is moving fairly quickly. At least the majority of my Christmas shopping is not only bought, but wrapped and under the tree. Hubby's doesn't get wrapped with the others, but will be wrapping his soon as well. But everyone else's is under the tree - except for some things I still have to make.

I did absolutely nothing over the weekend. I was to have breakfast with two girlfriends (it got cancelled until after the holidays) and then was going to go to the grocery.... it didn't happen. We did have our company Christmas party that night and it was nice. Sunday morning was church, at which we found out there was a Christmas musical with two of our grandchildren in it - so again, we didn't go with our original plans of baking, shopping, having grandchildren over to bake, etc. So we both took naps. After the musical we got invited to join the family for dinner out - which was very nice and enjoyable.

Today I'm back at work but at least this week will be a short one for me - I'm here two days, off one, back one, then off until next Tuesday. I work all day Tuesday, and 1/2 day on Wednesday. I'm considering working from home on Wednesday and saving the gas..... but will see. We are off the day after Christmas, which is a nice 'gift' from Corporate. That will give us a nice long weekend.

My sister emailed me over the weekend and said they had been hanging out with her spouse's relatives - and the subject of Christmas came up. These other couples give each of their children (3) and grandchildren (11) a $25 gift card for birthdays - and for Christmas. And they have "money". That's probably why they have it. LOL

So my sister asks me where did we go wrong? Why do we feel we need to buy lots and lots of presents for our children and grandchildren. I don't have an answer for that. I wasn't able to buy a lot this year.... and I did watch how much I spent. I'm usually still out shopping but quit a week or so ago. One thing I do know...... I don't want to just buy a gift card for $25 and let that be 'it'.

It's great, I guess, if you live in your RV or have a winter home to travel to for the holidays and don't plan to spend time with your children and grandchildren..... but to me spending the time with the children and grandchildren is what Christmas is all about. I love preparing a meal and waiting for them to come visit. I enjoy the time we spend together. I don't care if they only stay an hour - for that hour I get to spend time with them.

I know most don't care about gifts - and they don't hestiate to tell me. And that's fine. There is nothing I need either. But I love spending time with them. And I love buying things they may want, or find interesting. I love surprising them with things they wouldn't expect. Some things I get 'the look' of 'and you bought this because...??? LOL It's all good.

I still think I did fairly well on my spending.... not as much as years past.... but still enough. And I'm happy and that's all that counts, right?

I have my nativity scene out on my desk. Although I'm sure some companies don't allow it, I'm fortunate to work with a company who does allow us to put scenes like the nativity up.

What decorations are you putting up this year? Our tree has been up since Thanksgiving. Will be starting my baking this week. Will start my dieting in two weeks. :-) Oh well. It's all good.

Need to get to work - have a great day! Watch the traffic out there!

Blessings!

15 days until Christmas!

That's the theme this morning here at the office. Some are panicking - but not me. I quit about a week ago. Well, I have mail orders coming in yet, and I need to pick up one more gift card (or I would like to), but I finally had to say 'I quit'. 'I'm done'. 'No more'. Oh, just remembered, hubby still needs to get for his grandchildren in Indiana - and we need to get something for his brother and sis in law. We're basically down to gift cards, anyway. But we need to get those that we need to mail done soon.

We've had 'secret Santa' here at the office the past week or so. It's been a lot of fun and some are really getting in to it. I received two pair of Christmas socks the other day that were so fun. I wore a pair yesterday and had to go around and show them off. They are red/white stripe with a great 'belt' at the top and a big belt buckle in the design. So fun. I've gotten tablets, pen, lotion, socks - I think I'm doing quite well and we just drew names on December 1! Ironically, I drew my boss's name - and I was the last one to draw a name! She has a Christmas tree (tabletop) in her office so I've been putting them under it.

Last night I had a couple hours alone since hubby had a coffee meeting with some of his friends. It was a nice evening - I put on the movie "The Christmas Shoes" and cried my way through it as I worked on the binding for the quilt I'm working on. Love that movie. There are a couple along the same lines - I need to figure out which one I have loaned out - I may need to just buy a new copy. One of my boys gave me a tear-jerker movie to watch the other week - need to watch that this weekend sometime and get it back to him. This weekend - Saturday for sure - is going to be a busy one. I have a breakfast with two girlfriends, then we have our office Christmas party at the Talking Stick Resort. Sunday I think we just need to go to church.

I love the Christmas season - yes, with all the hustle and bustle of shopping and Christmas parties - I do enjoy it all, and I always make sure I take time to remember the "reason for the season". I like to re-read what we call 'The Christmas Story' and remember why we celebrate this season. I hope you take time to do that as well. Gifts and parties are all good, but it is meaningless without a reason.

Find the reason for this season.... it will make this time more meaningful for you.

Things aren't always as bad as they seem.....

That is the thought that popped into my mind just now. I'm not sure why at this moment - perhaps it was on the way in I was thinking of things I could sell to apply the monies towards bills. Perhaps it is because Christmas is 20 days away and I'm wanting to do so much - and yet cannot. Perhaps it is just I let life come crashing down around me on occasion and I don't know how to deal with things. But, I have also learned over the years, things are not always as bad as they seem.

I may struggle with spending and having bills at times...... but there are people out there that don't even have a job, let alone know where their next meal is coming from.

Yeah, I could probably write several more of the 'but there are people out there that....' but I think you get my drift. (Hey, that's a laundry detergent!!)

My boss is on vacation today. She was so funny yesterday afternoon - she was so excited about getting the day off that she was bouncing off the walls to get out of here. I can understand that feeling! Although she gets many more days vacation than I do, she had two weddings this year so her time off was busy with wedding preparations and company in her home. Today it is just for her - I imagine she will go get some shopping done. She and I agreed 'no gifts' this year. After the first of the year, we'll go get pedicures or go out to lunch. Neither of us really 'need' anything -we talked about it last week. My boss and I have been friends for probably 25+ years so we have given each other numerous gifts. I will still give her the salsa (which her husband loves and asks for), some cranberry pumpkin nut bread, and anything else I make and want to throw in the bag. She knows she will get that - but we have agreed nothing else. I usually bring salsa/bread and butter pickles for the docs and managers I work with. Not sure if I will do all that this year. I am thinking I may just bring a large loaf of the bread.... it puts too much pressure on me and most never say if they like it or not - they take it because it is a gift. I never want anyone to take something they don't care for.

Besides, for me, Christmas is about giving. I love seeing faces when the grandchildren open up their gifts. Or if I have made or bought something special for one of the children. But I don't need to put so much pressure on myself to get things done to give it away. I just need to sit down and figure out what I need to do and whom I want to give my home made things to. I already have in mind some things for next year to make..... just need to start in January and not November to get started. My fingers can't take it so much anymore. I went to get a massage last night - and when my hands were being massaged, I felt a lot of pain in my knuckles. Maybe I've overworked them a bit. Surely it isn't because I'm getting old!

Getting old. LOL My older sister and I were talking about that yesterday. We had laughed the last couple weeks because she said she has been on predisone and her face was swollen and round - that her wrinkles were gone - her cheeks were so big that it looked like her lips were moving a mile a minute when she talked. It cracked me up. Yesterday she said the swelling (from the medication) was going down and her wrinkles were coming back. Some times she and I have a good time laughing about things.

What do you think about getting older? I often think about where I am in life, according to my age. How many more years do I have ahead of me? Will I ever get my house cleaned up the way I want it before I go? Can I possibly get out of debt before then? I look at my life behind me and see many regrets, and yet, much joy. I've done a lot of stupid things, paid a lot of stupid tax (Dave Ramsey's term), but yet, life has been what I have made of it. I quit looking behind at my mistakes and regrets, and look ahead to what is there for me. I will continue to do a lot of stupid things, I'm sure. But I choose to live life. I'm not as active and don't do as much as I would like to. That is one of my biggest regrets, I think.

Things aren't always as bad as they seem.....it's my viewpoint on my life. I choose to work on my viewpoint and find good and joy. What about you? Gonna waller in your struggles - or hold your head up and move on?

Blessings!

Ugh - and YAY - I'm back to work!

One would think that with my being off the past two days that I would have taken opportunity to sit down and spend some time writing out this blog. Well, it obviously didn't happen. Oh, I did get on the computer around 6AM both mornings - but it was only to log into the company webiste and send out the reports that I do on a daily basis. Then I immediately got off and went to do my quiet time before beginning my busy days.

Yes, my days were busy. Tuesday I had a repeat mammogram and an ultrasound (I know TMI) and although everything appears fine, the radiologist says I have to come back in six months for another. Well, been through this routine a few times so I'm not worried. But, it did take some time out of my morning to get this done - and then I went shopping until about noon. Then we had a funeral of a dear friend so went to that. After that I headed out again to do some shopping. It just seems like my family has gotten so big that I can't keep up. I don't recall having this much difficulty in getting Christmas gifts and having my shopping done. And, I'm still not done! I'm thinking it is because I now have more boys in their teenage years - girls are easy, even in teenage years - but boys? Much, much harder. I'm at a loss. I text'd with one son and talked with another yesterday trying to figure out for their boys. I have some ideas - hopefully can get those taken care of soon so I can focus on my baking.

Yes, I did managed to get some of my bread made and in the freezer - but that is about it. I have so much more that I want to do - plus I need to get the grandchildren scheduled to come over and do their baking! Technically two have already done some baking - but they still want to make the Christmas mice - so I am not quite as stressed to get everyone in to bake. This is the part of Christmas that I really enjoy - having the grandchildren over to bake. My oldest granddaughter won't be back up until around Christmas..... she was moving or something last year and she and one of her brothers did not get to come bake. I hope they missed it as much as I did. But, at some point I need to let go and this is probably that year. She is such a good baker and an awesome cook (from what I hear) and does it frequently, so coming to bake with grandma isn't quite as unique as it once was. And that's ok. Her youngest brother is 8 so I will have him coming over for a few years yet - and he can really make it all fun. He is such a joy.

Yesterday I spent most of the day shopping - and got almost all the wrapping completed. I have a few things coming in via mail that I ordered for hubby so when that gets here (thinking I could save some shopping time - not) I have that yet to wrap. Hoping I will be completely done by the end of next week. Last night was a granddaughters Christmas choir concert and that was fun. Today I am back at work and have so much to do! At least only one meeting today that I have to take minutes at - just need to get the agenda and everything pulled together for it.

I find it amusing that when it comes to Christmas, everyone is broke (including me). By the time December gets here, everyone is wondering how in the world are they going to manage Christmas. We most times can pull something together. I just wonder, why don't we start earlier in the year - and perhaps get a gift a month for someone. That would certainly help. Even if it is just a gift card - and then put it away until Christmas. I've done that in the past. Unfortunately, didn't do any of that this year. So, like everyone else, I'm struggling to get gifts in the month of December. Need to organize myself better. I think I will make that my new year resolution. With all our children and grandchildren, pick one family a quarter, and focus on getting the gifts for that one family. Of course clothes might be difficult.... but other things might catch my eye.... will have to think about that possibility....

Being back to work I have lots to do so need to get off here and get busy!!

Be thinking not only of the gift buying, but the reason we are buying the gifts anyway - and it's not just to make someone happy!!

Blessings!!

Decorations are up, tree is decorated and all is good....

Well, most all. sigh. Not going there.

Two of the grandchildren came over yesterday and we got the decorations up, tree up and decorated, and then they baked. One made cake pops and the other made delicious oatmeal cookies. OM goodness!! They were so good. Not the normal crunchy oatmeal raisin cookies, but soft, chewy oatmeal cookies. Oatmeal makes them healthy, right? Lots of fiber? Regardless, they all (but about 4) went home with him, and the cake pops (but 1 for grandpa) went home with our granddaughter. We also watched 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding' - one sibling wanted the other to watch it. After that they made their way home with their goodies.

We had a great time with just being together. At least I think so. They still want to make Christmas mice - but we aren't sure when we can get together again. Will see. I need to see who can come over next Saturday - having the grandchildren over are more important than me going out and fighting the crowds shopping. I may be doing a Suicide Prevention walk with a grandson - he asked if I would walk with him - but he hasn't sent me the information yet. I love to do the walks that are going on - The Color Run is in January, but I can't afford for two of us to do it - and since I can't go alone, I don't register. No, I'm not asking for pity - I'm just stating a fact. $25 is a lot of money when you don't have much - and $50 is even more. Yes, if there is something I want to get I will pay that - but for something that is just for me having fun, naw, I'm reluctant to fork out that kind of dough.

My house looks nice even though it seems a lot of decorations are missing. I finally 'cleaned house' on Christmas decorations a couple years ago and got rid of a lot. Gave away to the children and then donated to Big Brothers/Big Sisters. See, I really do want to 'de-clutter'. LOL Some things are just hard to let go of.

Don't really know of much to write today. Have a heavy heart for one of my boys.... his life choices are his alone and he has to "suffer" through the consequences of his choices. I just wish he would mature and realize some choices only makes things worse. He doesn't realize the things he says when he is like that. Last night he ended up in the hospital ER with 'chest pains'..... not sure what the official diagnosis is for that... since they gave him a steroid for his lungs - sounds like congestion in the chest and not heart...thank God. How I wish he would take responsibility and get his life on the right track. But there I go with my own opinions....

Today is another beautiful day and our doors are open to let the cool, fresh air in. Marley wants out, but we are waiting for the pool guy to come clean the pool so don't let her out until he leaves. Unless she whines too much then we let her out for a few minutes.

I've already baked a batch of the cranberry pumpkin nut bread this morning and it is cooling. Smells so good I could cut right into one - but I need to save them all for Christmas gifts. I'm out of nuts or I would get another batch out yet today. Don't really want to go to the store and fight crowds. Maybe I will get hubby to stop at Walmart on the way home from church. I need to pick up more binding anyway. My breakfast with girlfriends fell through for this morning as my boss text'd me last night she was sick. So we moved it out for a couple weeks.

I got to sleep in! Of course I awoke at 4AM, but then dozed off and on - finally arising a little after 715, I think.

I'm running out of things to say. Hope that you spend some time meditating on what is important in your life - and make it happen. Change if you need to; look at things a different way. Determine to make things better. Just do something. And when you fail on your own, turn to God, and allow Him to take control of your life and your decisions. THEN you will be able to turn and do good.

Blessings!

and it is now the day after.....

Thanksgiving, that is. What a great day it was yesterday! We had so much food - and I brought home so many leftovers! It seems everyone preferred ham over the turkey - and the 20 pound turkey I cooked yesterday morning - well, I would say 95% of what I took - I could have brought home - sent a lot home with my daughter. And still have a lot. Three containers went in to the freezer last night. All the deviled eggs were taken - and most of the dressing. I kept a couple pieces for hubby - and some for my middle child who went elsewhere for the holiday. Lots of giblet gravy was left over - have a nice container to send home with my boy, and we still have some!

Two of the grandchildren are on their way over to help me decorate for Christmas this year. It is sometimes a battle with hubby to get my Christmas items out to put up - even the tree. Last year it was the middle of December before he would get the tree and things down. This year I made the decision if he wouldn't get in the spirit of Christmas and get it down - I'd get the grandchildren over to help. So they are on their way now and we'll get the tree and decorations up today. I've already wrapped the gifts I've gotten thus far. Busy working on the handmade ones. Had to stop last night for my hands were starting to hurt. I think I have a touch of arthritis in the fingers and they hurt after awhile.

Went rummaging in a cabinet today and found some more Christmas boxes. I've decided that I am going to use up all the boxes this year - I am going to get some of things I hold on to (for whatever reason - of which I have no idea).

A friend stopped by this morning and brought biscuits and gravy, and a big container of ham and beans. He's so good to us. He didn't bring bread this time - I'm surprised - he always does - and 99% of the time I give it away to the neighbors or take to work. I can't have it around - I eat it! And I've already started my baking as well.

I love this time of year! I love the excuse for baking and doing things. Every year I say I'm going to start earlier - but I don't. Many more will be getting homemade gifts this year. I laugh when one grandchild has already told me he wants 50 oatmeal raisin cookies that are soft in the middle for Christmas. Know what? He's going to get them. All 50 of them. Oh - and some of my cranberry pumpkin nut bread. He wants it as well. His sister said that to me last year - she wanted my cheeseball and her very own bread. And that is what she got! She was happy and it was so fun to see her eyes light up when she opened the package. It was fun doing it.

Looking forward to having the grandchildren over on the weekends to make Christmas mice and cookies. I love having them over to bake and this year it is no different. What a joy they are to me. Everyone of them. I wish I could have an 'open door' policy and they could come whenever they want. But, well, maybe I can make that a Christmas wish....

Grandchildren are here - time to decorate! Hope you have a wonderful day!

Blessings!

Twas the Day before Thanksgiving.....

and here I am at work. Yes, I need to work today - but I'm sure that my boss will let me go home early if I want to! Christmas and New Years is even better - we work only 1/2 day on Christmas Eve - and then we are off Thursday AND Friday; and I think the same with New Years. Actually, we are off Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving. I love my job. I really do, but I enjoy having the extra days to get things done.

Although I do not plan to join the thousands who will join the throngs of people shopping on Thanksgiving and especially the day after. Unless I go late afternoon. Since things are so tight financially, I probably won't be going out at all. Less than a month now until Christmas and I'm already trying to come up with things I can make for gifts. I've been able to get a few things completed, but still have so many to go. But, I'm not going to worry about it. Christmas shouldn't be about the gift - but about family. That's what I keep telling myself. Don't want to get a second job to have extras - so will make do with what we have.

And for that I am truly thankful. I do have a good job, a great boss. I enjoy what I do (most days). I am usually always busy here at work and yet, if I don't want to do it (unless I have a deadline), I can choose when I get it completed.

Looking at my calendar last night I realized I have created a really, really long weekend for me. I'm off Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, - and then I took Monday and Tuesday off. Why? Because I need to use my days before the end of the year or lose them. I have three other days scheduled later in the month. But, I am sure I will spend the day baking and getting gifts put together. I did manage to get some wrapping done last weekend of what I have already gotten. That helps for I create a list of who I am "finished" with and can concentrate of those I still need to do something for. Problem with that is, I still find things I want to get for who I already have something for. I love to give things and I love to surprise people.

So for today it is getting things done here at work to be gone for a few days. Tonight I'll bake the cornbread for the dressing and cut up the celery and onions, etc so that it will be ready to put together in the morning after the turkey has baked a bit.

Tomorrow morning is our 3rd Annual Family and Friends Turkey Trot Walk. I only expect about six of us to walk the 3-5 miles, but it will be fun. I set the time for 7AM but this morning I was thinking of changing it to 8AM. But then, I can get up early, get the turkey on, and do the walk - be back home by 9AM and get started on the rest of the dinner. We're meeting at the youngest son's this year and I'm taking the turkey, dressing, giblet gravy, deviled eggs...... maybe a green salad and I'm thinking about making my cranberry apple cobbler. Will see. I imagine I had best make enough dressing and gravy to save for my oldest son..... he seems to like it fairly well. I am going to assume he wants some. I think last year he asked for it. That always makes me feel good when the children - and grandchildren - ask for a specific dish I make. I hope that when I'm no longer able to join them, that someone will make that special dish and remember.

I always think of my mother and grandmother when I make my cornbread dressing for it is my grandmother's recipe that my mother always made - as have I. I call it Tennessee Cornbread Dressing for lack of another name. The giblet gravy I get from a cookbook I've had for over 30 years. In fact, got it for a wedding gift.

I added a story this morning to the reports I sent out that really brings some thought. I want to share it with you..... hopefully you will gain something from it as well.

You Make a Difference

A teacher in New York decided to honor each of her seniors in High school by telling them the difference they each made using a process developed by Helice Bridges of Del Mar, California. She called each student to the front of the class, one at a time. First she told them how they made a difference to her and the class. Then she presented each of them with a blue ribbon imprinted with gold letters which read, “Who I Am Makes a Difference.”

Afterwards the teacher decided to do a class project to see what kind of impact recognition would have on a community. She gave each of the students three more ribbons and instructed them to go out and spread this Acknowledgment ceremony. Then they were to follow up on the results, see who honored whom and report back to the class in about a week.

One of the boys in the class went to a junior executive in a nearby company and honored him for helping him with his career planning. He gave him a blue ribbon and put it on his shirt. Then he gave him two extra ribbons, and said, “We’re doing a class project on recognition, and we’d like you to go out, find somebody to honor, give them a blue ribbon, then give them the extra blue ribbon so they can acknowledge a third person to keep this acknowledgment ceremony going. Then please report back to me and tell me what happened.”

Later that day the junior executive went in to see his boss, who had been noted, by the way, as being kind of a grouchy fellow. He sat his boss down and he told him that he deeply admired him for being a creative genius. The boss seemed very surprised. The junior executive asked him if he would accept the gift of the blue ribbon and would he give him permission to put it on him. His surprised boss said, “Well, sure.” The junior executive took the blue ribbon and placed it right on his boss’s jacket above his heart. As he gave him the last extra ribbon, he said, “Would you do me a favor? Would you take this extra ribbon and pass it on by honoring somebody else? The young boy who first gave me the ribbons is doing a project in school and we want to keep this recognition ceremony going and find out how it affects people”.

That night the boss came home to his 14-year-old son and sat him down. He said, “The most incredible thing happened to me today I was in my office and one of the junior executives came in and told me he admired me and gave me a blue ribbon for being a creative genius. Imagine it, he thinks I’m a creative genius. Then he put this blue ribbon that says ‘Who I Am Makes A Difference’ on my jacket above my heart.
He gave me an extra ribbon and asked me to find somebody else to honor. As I was driving home tonight, I started thinking about whom I would honor with this ribbon and I thought about you. I want to honor you. My days are really hectic and when I come home I don’t pay a lot of attention to you. Sometimes I scream at you for not getting good enough grades in school, or for your bedroom being a mess, but somehow tonight, I just wanted to sit here and, well, just let you know that you do make a difference to me. Besides your mother, you are the most important person in my life. You’re a great kid and I love you!”

The startled boy started to sob and sob, and he couldn’t stop crying. His whole body shook. He looked up at his father and said through his tears, “I was planning on committing suicide tomorrow, Dad, because I didn’t think you loved me. Now I don’t need to!”

When was the last time you listened, I mean REALLY listened....

By that I mean eye contact, mind focused on what is being said. For some of us, it probably has been awhile. To listen to anyone.

I've been reading information on "listening" the past week or so and today there was a story that really hit home. Not for the "situation" but more for the listening.

If you show people how much you care and ask questions in a nonthreatening way, you'll be amazed by how much they'll tell you.

..........In our careers, we have done a lot of speaking. Between the two of us (John Maxwell and Jim Dornan), we speak to several hundred thousand people every year. Jim’s wife, Nancy, does a lot of speaking – and believe us, she is a great talker! But she is also a wonderful listener, and sometimes when she speaks, she talks about communication and the importance of listening. Not long ago she gave a talk about listening that emphasized giving other people the benefit of doubt and trying to see things from their point of view.

In the audience that day was a man named Rodney. Though he was happily married and had a young son, he had been previously married and had two daughters with his first wife. And he was having problems with her. She was constantly calling him and asking for more money for herself and the two girls. They argued continually, and she was driving him so nuts that he had already hired an attorney and was preparing to sue her.

But when Rodney heard Nancy speak about listening that day, he realized how insensitive he had been to his ex-wife, Charlotte. A couple of days later he called her and asked if they could meet. She was suspicious of Rodney and even asked her attorney to call him to find out what he was up to. But eventually, Rodney convinced them that he just wanted to talk, and finally, Charlotte agreed to see him.

They met at a coffee shop, and Rodney said, “Charlotte, I want to listen to you. Tell me what your life is like. I do care about you and the kids.”

“I didn’t think you cared about the girls at all,” she said as she began to cry.

“I do,” he said. “I’m sorry. I’ve only been thinking of myself, and I haven’t been thinking of you. Please forgive me.”

“Why are you doing this?” she asked.

“Because I want to make things right,” he answered. “I’ve been angry for so long that I couldn’t see straight. Now, tell me how things are going for you and the girls.”

For a while, Charlotte could only sob. But then she started telling him about her struggles as a single parent and how she was doing her best to bring up the girls, but that it didn’t seem like enough. They talked for hours, and as they did, the beginning of a new foundation of mutual respect formed. In time, they believe they will be able to become friends again.

Rodney is probably not alone. Can you think of people you haven’t been listening to lately? And what are you going to do about it? It’s never too late to become a good listener. It can change your life – and the lives of the people in your life.
--------------------------------

How many times have we been in a car with someone and they were talking - and our thoughts were elsewhere? How many times have we gone to a restaurant with a family member and instead pulled out our "smartphone" rather than talk with them?

Make it a point this weekend - whether at home or out somewhere - whomever you are with - talk to them - and take time to listen to what is going on in their lives.

You will be glad you did.

Blessings!

Hump Day thoughts.

I enjoy "hump day". No real reason why other than it is the middle of the work week and once this day is over - it's all "down hill" to the weekend. But I don't want to wish my life away either. I like the Geico commercials with the camel - especially the one of it going through the office yelling "Mike, Mike, Mike.... what day is it?" I smile every time I see it. Of course there are numerous pictures on the internet as well. As I sent out my reports this morning I had to add the one of the two 'donkeys' talking to each other. One is saying "Hey, Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike.... guess what day it is....guess what day it is...." and the other responds "Bruce, you are NOT a camel. You're an ass. We discussed this." Cracks me up every time.

But today IS "hump day" however you choose to think of it. Other than the past couple years when all the jokes became prominent, I guess I didn't really think too much about it other than it being the middle of the week and once past it I only had two days left of work. I kind of enjoy the rhedoric about it.

What about you? How do you view Wednesday? Do you just not think about it and view it as another day? Sadly, that is what most people do. It is just another day in their life.

One thing I've determined, each and every day needs to be celebrated in some way. I don't care if you just take two minutes out for yourself in that day, celebrate being alive. Celebrate family, those things that mean something to you. Celebrate YOU.

You may think you aren't much to celebrate - but you are. You were created in the image of God. Yeah, I know, you have heard 'that story' before. But you were. And so am I. I may not always behave in the way I should, or say things I shouldn't, but that doesn't mean I wasn't created in His image. I was created to bring God glory - and so were you. We both were created to worship God. How do we worship Him? By the way we live. Are we honest? Are we caring? Do we treat others as we want to be treated? Do we care about others as much as we care about ourselves? These are things we do to worship God.

God has blessed us with another day - each one of you reading this - God has brought air into your lungs and opened your eyes this morning. Every morning when hubby and I pray together, we always thank God for the night's rest (even if it is a rough night) and for awakening us that morning. As much as I dislike getting up early, I'm grateful that I can get up. I'm thankful for my job. I'm thankful for my health. And I tell God so every day, 'thank You'.

Another big meeting today so it will be a busy day - but it's 'hump day' and will go quickly. Tomorrow we are having our 'Thanksgiving lunch' here at work. I'm bringing deviled eggs. It's still a lot of work, but much easier to transport than some things. I'm trying not to offer to bring so much as I have in the past. I don't need to furnish everything just because I love to cook. I can let others supply the rest. So deviled eggs it is for me to bring.

Hope that you have a great 'Hump Day' and get a lot accomplished. Two days to go until the weekend! Keep Smiling. ;-)

Blessings!

It's All Over....

The big wedding was a week ago, the reception was last Saturday. I think that all went well and now these things we can put behind us. The wedding came on a beautiful day in Sedona (today it is really cold there so glad it was a week ago!!) and most everything worked out well. Few minor problems but nothing to ruin the day. The reception was fun - dancing, food and just being with family. It was good.

It was so fun when the first slow song after the bride and groom danced that two of the grandchildren came immediately over to grandpa and I and asked us to dance. First time ever dancing with them so it was a lot of fun. A lot of dances I didn't know - and the music was way too loud, but it was still fun. I asked for the music to be turned down - but I could almost swear they turned it up. I should have been insistent. Why is it that DJs always feel the music must be at top volume? I hate the music when it is like that, and nearly always ask for it to be turned down. I feel that if you can't talk while the music is playing - then it is too loud. Just my opinion.

Now the holidays are quickly approaching and I realize that today is November 17th and Christmas is what - 5 weeks away? Since I do all the shopping and preparations for everyone, right now I feel overwhelmed. Partly due to lack of finances to purchase much, and partly because I have other things going on as well. Work, for one thing.

Which - I am only working 1/2 day today - hubby has cataract surgery at 11AM-ish so am only working until 10AM. This afternoon I plan to go out and get some groceries, and maybe look to see if I can't get one or two gifts. I have picked up a couple things, but not much. Working on two gifts now as well. Need to focus on getting those finished. I remember one year several years ago that I worked until 1AM Christmas morning to finish one gift for a grandchild. But I got it done! Last year I gave a "homemade" quilt to a son and his wife, and had to ask for it back for I didn't get it finish. But, I eventually did and was able to return it.

So that is my weekend and my day. I need to start getting my thoughts together and not share so much personal stuff I guess.

I'm looking outside my window and see pink streaks in the blue sky as the sun is starting to arise. It is a cold morning for sure (I put sweats on!) but looks like it will be a beautiful one. Time to dig my sweaters out of drawers and closets.

Take some time to see the beauty of the day outside - and feel the warmth of the love of God inside.

Blessings!

Lost train of thought....

For those that know me, know that it can happen fairly frequently for me. I really did have a good thought on Monday..... but with interruptions that morning, I got side-tracked and did not complete my thought. I'm not going to go through all that again, I will just say that I finally understand the reasons and what fors of doing the "formal" wedding last week and the reception this weekend. And it's ok.

The wedding reception is tomorrow and although it won't be your typical reception, it will be nice. They have a DJ and plan to have the mother-son (groom) dance, and also the daughter (bride)-father dance. My son guarantees me that I will cry - but won't tell me what the song is - last I heard it was 'You will always be my Baby by Tim McGraw' - but I'm not sure. Since I don't have to do anything except bring ice tea for the reception, I am able to dress up for this occasion. I have borrowed a long black dress from my daughter - yes, it is a larger size than I wear, but I will make it work. I probably ought to try it on tonight again to see if I need to run out and find something else. I love this outfit and I hope I don't end up wishing I had followed my son-in-law's advice and get it altered to fit me. I figured it was my daughter's dress, I shouldn't make changes to it as I plan to give it back to her - after our Christmas party next month. I'll see if I can pin it here and there to get by.

I was at a conference all day yesterday so got absolutely nothing done for the office. I am so far behind now that I am exhausted thinking about how far behind I am! Luckily my boss is at a board meeting this morning so will be in late - and I hopefully, can get focus on some things I need to get done - as long as others leave me alone. My boss doesn't bother me, but I do things when she is here to make sure she has everything she needs for meetings. I forgot she was going to the meeting - went and got her coffee this morning - guess that I will have another cup here rather than waste it.

God has been blessing us with beautiful weather lately - cool in the mornings and all. I wish I had an area out back (and the time) that I could just go outside and sit and enjoy the cooler weather. Sure, I could probably go out on weekends, but ....

Need to gather what thoughts I have and focus on my work this morning - take some time and thank God for all that He has given you. We take so much for granted - waking up each morning, breathing, our health.... not counting our families. A dear friend woke one morning this week to find that her adult son had died in his sleep. Memorial service is Sunday. I'm sure she would have loved to have had one more day with him.

Don't take each day for granted..... you never know when someone you know, someone you are close to, someone you love and care for, will breathe their last. Let them know what they mean to you. You will be glad you did.

Blessings!

Realization of things sometimes come too late.....

Saturday was the "wedding" of my youngest son and his bride. Actually the " " means that the wedding actually took place in May, but it happened again last Saturday at a grandeur level. Not that it was over the top or anything. It was nice, although there were some awkward moments, and mishaps, and uncertainty as to what to do. The DJ was unable to play the wedding march, so it was comical when the two flower girls starting humming the wedding march as the bride walked across the grass.

Yes, the bride walked across grass. The wedding was held in Sedona at the Cresent Moon Red Rock Crossing Park. Or something like that. It was truly a beautiful day - slight breeze, sunshine, leaves turning colors. Beautiful. The ceremony was across the parking lot in the middle of a grassy patch before heading into hiking trails. Yeah, there were a lot of hikers (being a public park we could not keep them out) that will appear in some photos, although we tried to wait in-between people walking through.

We are set up and in place for the wedding. The groom, best man, and I are at the front. In comes the matron of honor, the two flower girls. Finally, the bride is with her father getting ready to walk down the ... well, what should be an aisle but was just grass. Everyone is standing (only the "old" parents got chairs) and waiting for the ceremony to begin. No music.... until the flower girls start humming. Finally, the bride and her father are almost in front of us. Only they stop two feet to my right.

The wedding site person (they had to hire her to get the park for the wedding) - gasp!! - right as we started the ceremony, she walks up and tries to move the bride and her father over to where she wanted them to be. The groom shakes his head at her, meaning her to leave it be. I finish the opening, then asked them to move over a few feet in front. We continued through the ceremony, the groom seemingly making fun by doing his vowels in a 'drawl', causing the bride to laugh. But soon, the ceremony was over and we began the process of the photographer taking photos.

I felt fat that day and probably looked it. But then, it's isn't about me. The bride and groom looked both beautiful and handsome. Lots of photos were taken, then the couple headed to a location they wanted more photos taken, and the rest of us headed to the ramada to wait for them.

The cake, champagne, and cider was there waiting. We waited only a short time before the new couple arrived. I loved the photo I got of the two flower girls, and the three boys standing at the end of the sidewalk as the couple walk down towards the ramada.

The cake was cut, the toasts were given. I was blown away by the toast given by my granddaughter, the groom's daughter. I must admit I can't remember how old she is - all the grandchildren are growing up so fast - but I think around 10 - and she has a birthday this week. Anyway - she gave a toast that choked me up. It was a "paragraph", not a sentence or two. I can't even remember it all, and I wish I could. It was a beautiful, heartfelt toast from a daughter to her parents. wow. Afterwards I was so surprised that everyone said AMEN.

The DJ got the music playing and the bride danced with her son to 'You Are My Sunshine'. Then the groom danced with his daughter. I cried. Yep, I did. And I snapped many photos of this moment. The song was 'Daddy's little girl' by Tim McGraw, I think. I believe the groom sung the song to his daughter as they danced.

Overall, the wedding was beautiful.

Yesterday as I was thinking over how everything went, a realization came to me. The bride had been saying this was her 'dream' wedding.... yet none of us could understand since the 'original' wedding was in May. We kept thinking about the cost of all that was being spent - and how they really didn't have that kind of money to spend. We couldn't grasp what it was all about. Then it hit me.

The ceremony in May was for convenience of the insurance. It was nothing more to her than going to a JP to get married. This WAS her dream wedding - the fancy dress, the walk down the 'aisle', her father giving her away, the reception next week. She deserved it. She was entitled to it. And I feel bad that I didn't understand it. Perhaps if I had spent more time with her and really listened to her, I could have grasped what that meant. I wish I had been more involved in the wedding. I could have helped take stress off her. Yes, I did offer to help, but since I didn't know what her plans were, I had to leave it up to the bride and groom to tell me what I could do. I didn't hear anything so thought the bride's family was helping her. Little did I realize how little they did help. There was much I could have done to help relieve some of the stress.

But, it is all over now, and we are waiting for the reception on Saturday. My son tells me I will cry during the song he has chosen for us to dance to. Heck, I cry at everything so this won't be much different. Maybe. First time ever dancing with my son though.

It was a tiring but good, weekend. The wedding is over - and now back to work.

Blessings!

Listening - do we really do it?

I've been reading a lot lately about listening. Really listening. Interesting topic that I read on today. It was about listening when you have emotional baggage. It's more about how we let our own issues interfere with our listening.

I've been sitting here and wondering if - and how - I have let my own emotional pain affect how I listen to others. Do I? I hope not, but yet, I'm sure that I have. Just as I am sure you have. Sometimes our 'listening' is affected by our indifference to the situation. Or to the person.

Can you think of a time when someone was talking to you and all you could think at the time was "would you hurry up and spit it out so that I can leave this conversation?" I know I have, unfortunately. Sometimes we have even family members we would like to turn a deaf ear to, especially when it's all about them.

But when it is a topic we are interested in, or a person we enjoy listening to, we could sit for hours and talk and share and listen. The thought just occurred to me that many bartenders - and hairdressers are the people who we tend to share the most with. Since I don't go to bars, my poor hairdresser gets to listen to me whine, rejoice, complain, or just be funny. I usually tease him that he knows more about me than I know myself. But then, how much is he really listening to me? How many times is he so preoccupied with his own thoughts that he doesn't really hear me? Yes, that happens too. Since I've been going to him for about 15 years, we both know a lot about each other.

This is from a book I'm reading about carrying emotional weight when sharing with others.....
Nearly everyone has emotional filters that prevent him or her from hearing certain things that other people say. Your past experiences, both positive and negative, color the way you look at life and shape your expectations. And particularly strong experiences, such as traumas or incidents from childhood, can make you tend to react strongly whenever you perceive you are in a similar situation. As Mark Twain once said, “A cat who sits on a hot stove will never sit on a hot stove again. He’ll never sit on a cold stove either. From then on, that cat just won’t like stoves.”

If you’ve never worked through strong past emotional experiences, you may be filtering what others say through those experiences. If you’re preoccupied with certain topics, if a particular subject makes you defensive, or if you frequently project your point of view onto others, you may need to work through your issues before you can become an effective listener.

Sigmund Freud stated, “A man with a toothache cannot be in love,” meaning that the toothache doesn’t allow him to notice anything other than his pain. Similarly, anytime a person has an ax to grind, the words of others are drowned out by the sound of the grindstone.

So - I read that and I thought about how true it is. Especially about the 'man with a toothache cannot be in love' statement. When our pain is great, we aren't going to be truly listening.

And sometimes, we need to listen with the heart, versus with just our ears.

Hmmmmm..... I'm listening now with my ears and hear my boss just walk in so off I go! Hope you have a great day!

Blessings!

Want to get even?

I usually don't listen to the radio on my way in to work, but this morning I decided to turn it on. As the people were talking, they said something that made sense.

If someone has hurt you, or made you angry, or did something to you or someone you love, get even with them. How? By forgiving them.

Yeah, that doesn't make sense, does it? You hurt me, I should get to hurt you back. Isn't that what people do? You say something that offended me, so I'm going to say something offensive back to you. You did something that made me feel guilty, so I need to lash out at you and say something cruel so that my guilt doesn't feel so bad.

Oh trust me, that has been my year, I think. But, I learned a long time ago that even though I can't trust some people, I can forgive them. They can not control my life by the things they say or the things they do. I forgive them.

And by forgiving them, I not only get even, I get set free. The more I withhold forgiveness, the more in bondage I am to them. When I forgive them, they have nothing to hold on me. I am free.

Want to get even? Forgive them. Let it go. Love them.

I read in a book recently that when we don't like someone (because of behavior or things said, or whatever reason), we should ask God to bless them. And be sincere about it. Jesus said that we are to 'Bless.... see Matthew 5 below.... NLT version.

The Beatitudes
3 “God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him,
for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.
4 God blesses those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
5 God blesses those who are humble,
for they will inherit the whole earth.
6 God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice,[b]
for they will be satisfied.
7 God blesses those who are merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
8 God blesses those whose hearts are pure,
for they will see God.
9 God blesses those who work for peace,
for they will be called the children of God.
10 God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right,
for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.

11 “God blesses you when people mock you and persecute you and lie about you and say all sorts of evil things against you because you are my followers. 12 Be happy about it! Be very glad! For a great reward awaits you in heaven. And remember, the ancient prophets were persecuted in the same way.

I am choosing to forgive, and I am choosing to bless. What about you?

Have a great day!

Blessings!

Enough!

I was thinking about that word this morning as I (once again) beat myself up and say "enough"! I'm so tired of being heavy - and I keep saying I'm going to do something about it.... and start off good.... but then 'fall off the wagon'. I have good intentions, truly I do. I just haven't stuck with them. Lots of things get in the way. People who entice you with chocolate, rich, fattening foods that you know you shouldn't have, but do.

Or what about healthy foods that are smothered in cream sauces.... along with a salad, of course. We have food here at the office all the time. Leftovers from breakfasts, lunches, etc. are nearly daily in the lunchroom for anyone who wants. I try to stay away from that side of the building, but once I hear food is there, I'm like an addict. I love food.

I love good food. I love chocolate. I love to eat. And sometimes I don't know when to stop. Or won't. Rarely is it 'can't'. I always can. I don't always choose to.

Last night, for example, we met friends at Sizzlers for dinner. You know, Sizzlers with the salad bar. Yeah, that one. And I got the salad bar. And I don't go for all that yecky potato salads, macaroni salads, crab salads, etc. I'm really good at getting rommaine lettuce, spinach, and then just a little of toppings, and very little dressing. Then I go to the other part of the salad bar. Where they have the little fried chicken wings. That's all I'm interestedin on that side. They are sooooo good. I usually have 3 to start, then I go back for 2-3 more. And after all that -we have to finish up with ice cream, of course. By the time I leave, I am so full. And I ask myself the same question.... why did I do that?

I have learned to take LESS salad, so I'm not totally miserable. Seriously, I used to fix TWO plates of salad fixings when we went to a salad buffet. The past few months I have dropped it down to about 1/2-3/4 size of the plate. Then if I want other things added, I can. And I'm ok. It's that stupid chicken at Sizzler that I really like. The fried wings. Good thing we don't go there but about every two months!

And I guess it really isn't about overeating last night - cause I overate all weekend - and we werent even home! I think I've already shared what we had then.

And once again. Today is a new day. A fresh beginning. I'm starting the day with my protein shake (which I've cut in half - years ago I used to drink 32 ounces - now it's only about 10) as usual, and fixed a pint jar of salad with a bit of chicken (no, not fried). Let's see how far that gets me! Got to focus on drinking my water more - yesterday I was so busy I only got 1 32 ounce glass of water down! I usually drink 4-5 of those a day.

And I gotta get to work - it's that time. So - what about you? Do you need a new beginning? A new day to start fresh? Well, this is it! Yeah, it's only a Tuesday, not a Monday, but that's ok. Who says we have to conform to everyone else and start on the first day of the week? I want to start today.

At least I start out well. It doesn't help that everyone around me has Snickers sitting in candy dishes (and other chocolate candies) open and begging me to take them. Snickers keep calling my name - I just need to learn to say 'no'.

Maybe that's what we all need to learn - the word 'no'. I'm taking care of me today, what about you?

Blessings!

I'm Back!

It's been a busy time since I last wrote. Not counting work, for sure. I worked from home for four hours on Thursday, then from that moment on until this morning, I was on paid time off (PTO). On the way in I reflected about what I did over the weekend, and realized how rested I felt. At least for that moment. I'm back at work, have already sent out two reports, and now trying to write this. And it's only 7:20AM. I still have six meetings to plan for this week - wait! I just looked at my calendar - wow - down to three meetings this week! Would be nice if we can delete another one or two. The one Thursday morning I know is NOT delete-able.... it is one of our 'biggies' and I've ordered a delicious hot breakfast for it. Yeah - it's a two hour morning meeting. Outside docs coming in and everything - about 20 people. (probably because of the food 20 people). But for today, it is preparing for the 'big' meeting and getting the minutes done that I have already to do.

Thursday was a good day. Marley went to the Pet Hotel and we packed up and headed south to Mesa, where we checked into a room at the country club. Nice. Had it for two nights. Small, but suitable for a short stay. We went grocery shopping as we had a refrigerator and a microwave so may as well use them, getting things for two days breakfasts. We knew our dinners would be taken care of with the rehearsal dinner and the wedding dinner.

Yeah, this was the weekend of my friend's son's wedding. Speaking of the rehearsal dinner - oh yum. After the rehearsal we went to my friend's house and she had fried chicken, huge baked potato bar and salad. It was so good. Hubby and I had to split the potato it was so big. She had us take some chicken and another potato and trimmings with us when we left, so we had some for lunch the next day. It was still good. Rehearsal went well and the day of the wedding was to ourselves as it didn't start until 5PM.

So what do we do? We go shopping at the mall! I had a black suit to wear to the wedding, but with it being outside, and the sun beating right on us - I wanted to find something lighter to wear. We went to Macy's and I found two dresses that were on sale, and then I got discounts on top of that so made out quite well. Still wasn't too sure about wearing them, but hubby was pleased I bought something. Then we went to Penneys. I found a gorgeous black dress that would work for the wedding - and ended up getting it as well - and got it for about 50% off too after discounts were applied. I don't even know what the discounts were, but they were willing to give them to me so I just kept saying ok. I've ended up with three nice black dresses that I can wear for most any occasion - with sleeves and sleevless. I did wear the one I got from Penneys to the wedding and it worked perfectly.

The wedding was beautiful. I think the groom has his hands full - but with 'going together' for five years, I'm sure he is quite aware of what is in store for him. I don't know the bride very well, but from overheard comments and actions, it was 'oh my.' I have a feeling who is going to be in control of 'that family'. VERY strong willed. And not afraid to speak her mind. Good at times, but .... rude at others. Very disrespectful to her parents, I felt, and she is old enough to know better. It was beautiful and warm outside for the wedding. It was just outside the fancy golf club 'ball room' - a fountain was in the background and it was very nice. The sun was totally in my eyes until the last sentence. The wedding started at 5PM so I couldn't see the groom at all when I looked at him - just a black blob with light all around his head. Being short was not to my advantage either, except when he stood at a certain angle and blocked some of the sun.

I have to laugh at brides nowadays. Well, some of them. I've officiated at a couple weddings of friends lately and the girls are already tall - and what do they do? Wear 5 inch heels with an inch platform. When this bride came in for rehearsal wearing those shoes I kid you not - she was a good 12 inches (or more) taller than me - and I'm 5'3"! It's like - on the day you will be on your feet so much, and will be dancing, etc., WHY would you wear those kind of shoes? Why not be comfortable with ballet slippers? I saw photos of a recent wedding where a couple used good sense and wore tennis shoes!

My son's renewing of vows comes up in a couple weeks. Then they are planning a reception a week later. I do hope they won't be too disappointed if not many show up - I think only about 1/4 have responded, and it is concerning as they want to buy food to have and they aren't sure how much to make - plus wedding favors. They have put a lot of money - and time - in preparing the renewal and reception, and I truly hope they will be happy how it turns out. They realize things happen and some people can't come, but it would be nice if most would respond one way or the other. (and no, I'm not pointing fingers, I think both of you have responded).

I got to thinking yesterday, when I officiate a wedding I generally try to wear something black and simple (like a suit, or now, like my new dress). At the reception, since it is a week later, I get to play the role of 'mom of the groom' so I can wear a color if I want - something fun and different. So I want to go shopping and buy a long dress (hubby asked if I was going to get a black one!LOL) to wear to the reception. Whatever I get, I can also wear to our office Christmas party. It will be nice to have a long, fun dress to wear. Haven't had one in years and I love long dresses.

I am reminded, with thinking of weddings, of how the bride prepares herself for her groom, and the groom prepares himself for his bride, how we are to be the Bride of Christ and are to always be ready and available to Him. When He comes, we are to be ready, pure and spotless as a lamb, for when the Lamb of God comes to claim His precious Bride - it's all over. I am so ready. Come, Lord Jesus, come.

Blessings!

It's ok if I don't remember everything.....

my Princess says so, and if she says so, it must be true! Of course she ended our conversation with the "I love you more than you will ever remember" statement.

My granddaughter and I were texting this morning and I was trying to share some recipes. I kept trying to tell her a couple recipes I have made recently that were really good - but couldn't remember all the ingredients. To which she just said 'it's ok not to remember'. And it is - afterall, it has been a week or more since I made those specific recipes I was referring to - and I just couldn't remember the specific ingredients.

Which makes me pause and think about how glad I am that God doesn't remember my sins when I confess them to Him. His Word says that once we confess them, He doesn't remember them anymore. They are cast as far as the east is from the west. I'm grateful for that! We have too many people in our lives who like to constantly remind us of our mistakes. I'm glad God choose to forget it all. Yes, I still need to live with the consequences of my sin(s), but He forgives me.

Do you need to confess some sins but don't want them brought up time and time again? Then confess them to God and ask for His forgiveness. He won't remember (but that doesn't give you permission to do them again and again) the sin. He will love you with forgiveness.

When you think you are beyond forgiveness, by anyone, by God, just remember what I am sure He would say.... "I love you more than you will ever remember". Just saying.

Blessings!

Party time!

Well, not really. The boss is out of the office until next Tuesday - so most people would think 'party time' - but for me, it's another busy work day. I have twenty binders to put together for a meeting that isn't scheduled until the 30th, but I plan to work from home until 11AM on Thursday and then I will be on "vacation" until Monday. My boss's son is getting married this weekend and we are going to it. The rehearsal is Thursday at 5PM so we need to be there. I told my boss they can't start without me..... either day! Yeah, I get to officiate the wedding. I told her that I feel I'm her personal minister. I did her oldest son's wedding about 7-8 years ago. I did her daughter's wedding last March. And now I have her youngest son's wedding this week. Not everyone has this honor for officiating all three weddings in one family. I will miss my boss being here at work, but I have a lot to get done before I'm off - and I need her office to spread out the binders in - it's a win-win.

This morning the article I typed out for the report groups I send to was really interesting. In retrospect I know that I have done it, and I'm sure you have too. It's about listening. Yeah, of course you have listened, right?

But how many times are we listening, but only for the break to grab a breath so that we can input our own thoughts? See how different that is? We can be told something really good - and really very interesting - and our minds pick up one word and we "patiently" wait while the other person gets it 'out' and then we add our comment. And in the process we may have missed some vital information, some good stuff, just because we are in a hurry to talk.

I see it happen all the time in meetings. The manager I have mentioned frequently that drives me crazy because she doesn't know how to be a manager - does it all the time. She will talk OVER the person talking - and she keeps going on and on and on.... I'm not the only one who notices it, but I sure wish someone would pull her aside and tell her to stop it!

Edgar Watson Howe once joked, “No man would listen to you talk if he didn’t know it was his turn next.” When Lyndon B. Johnson was a junior senator from Texas, he kept a sign on his office wall that read, “You ain’t learnin’ nothin’ when you’re doin’ all the talkin’.”

Listening shows respect. Psychologist Dr. Joyce Brothers said, “Listening, not imitation, may be the sincerest form of flattery.” Whenever you don’t pay attention to what others have to say, you send them the message that you don’t value them. But when you listen to others, you communicate that you respect them. Even more, you show them that you care. German-born philosopher-theologian Paul Tillich commented, “The first duty of love is to listen.”

A mistake that people often make in communicating is trying very hard to impress the other person. They try to make themselves appear smart, witty, or entertaining. But if you want to relate well to others, you have to be willing to focus on what they have to offer. Be impressed and interested, not impressive and interesting. Poet-philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson acknowledged, “Every man I meet is in some way my superior, and I can learn of him.” Remember that and listen, and the lines of communication will really open up.

Hmmmm.... are you listening?

Have a great Tuesday!

Blessings!

Feeling Melancholy....

It's been one of those days. My middle child has been on my mind and in my prayers today-that he has to say 'so long' to another dear friend of his. Death is never enjoyable, and although I don't think I ever met this friend, my son has spoken of him frequently. I know that this was a good man, and he was a good friend to my son. My heart aches for my son. No parent likes their children to be hurt, but we can't always protect them. This is one of those times. It's life. I believe in the Lion King they called it the 'Circle of Life'.

It still hurts.

I guess I knew the end was near - even without knowing it. I was awake most of the night before, with the friend constantly on my mind, and I was constantly praying for him, actually praying for a miraculous healing. God could have done it, but chose not to. It was between 2AM and 4AM that I began to doze off and on - and finally falling asleep. It seems when I have someone on my mind, and there are serious things going on, I end up not sleeping a lot. Once they are gone, or turn for the better, I seem to be able to fall asleep.

I remember when my mother died. I was on the airplane heading back to Indiana. Although I don't remember the time right now, I remember a 'check' in my spirit and I glanced at my watch to note the time. Sure enough, it was about that time she passed away. Other times I've discovered that if I burst into tears for a very small or unrelated reason, something is about to happen.

Is God alerting me that something is going to happen? I don't know. When He brings someone's name to mind, I know I am to pray for them - even when I don't know how to pray or what to pray. I need to be more bold in doing what I'm led to say and do.

One friend I knew had been crippled for awhile. One day I took his hand and the thought came to me to tell him to 'In the Name of Jesus, stand up and walk~!' and I actually hesitated and started to say it, but not wanting to 'assume' anything and wasn't sure if it was just my heart-cry or God telling me to say it. I mean, I've heard God speak to me before. I KNOW His voice.

But, it was a thought, and I don't know if I was just wanting to wish it so. But I remained silent. And prayed as I left, that if I should have said it, for God to tell me to go back - but He didn't. I wish now I had said it and made a fool of myself. But what if. What if it had made a difference. I regret that I didn't do what the thought said for me to do. If nothing happened, I only looked like a fool. If God was behind it...anything could have happened.

Sometimes we want friends - and family - to all be well and healthy. To be alive. But sometimes, we just have to 'let go'. Not because we know best, but because God does. Going quickly they are removed from their pain. God knew exactly how long my son's friend would live. He knew it before He created him. All this was in His plan for this friend. There was nothing anyone could have done. The friend lived, and died. Just like we all will.

These times always remind me of the 'dash' in our years. What are we doing with that dash. I am sure I have written it out before - and I will have to look for it - but perhaps it is time to write it again.

This friend of my sons had many friends and was well loved. It sounds to me like he lived his dash well. His friends and family will grieve and mourn, but it is their loss of one they loved. The friend has no more cares, no more sorrow, no more pain. He is where he chose to be at the end of his life. I wish I had been able to see him and ask if he knew Jesus. I had even prayed for that opportunity. It would have been awesome to know for sure where he was going. But I didn't know him, and I wasn't asked. I can only hope he thought about it, and made that decision before the end.

Hope you have a good evening. Don't forget to tell those you love how much you care for them. It may be your last opportunity.

Blessings!
