not having to rush around this morning and get ready for work. Yes, I took the day off because I have a doctor's appointment this morning. Not sure what I am seeing him for; I think it is to discuss the results of my tests three months ago.... I've moved the appointment a couple times, I think. Those tests are 'old' and he will probably want to do them all over again! Oh well. I wish he could heal broken hearts as easily as broken bodies.
But I do know who CAN heal a broken heart, and that is Jesus. He loves me no matter what the world thinks or what goes on in my life. He loves me. Bottom line. No if, ands, or buts. He loves me. And I can 'take that to the bank'. Which He owns, by the way.
I slept a little longer this morning, stayed in my room longer, and just being lazy as I get my day started. I don't need to leave for another hour, but guess I should start getting ready.
I did a Life Line Screening last month. It was quick and easy - and they send you the test results within 3 weeks unless there is something critical, and they tell you that day. I didn't get told anything so nothing was critical, but I'm disappointed I haven't received my information yet. I had hoped to take to the doctor with me today. I started to email Life Line Screening and ask them where my information is, then I looked to see when I had actually gone to have it done. May 30th. Today is June 21. I guess I can cut them a little slack. Yes, it is a couple days past the 'within 3 weeks' statement, but anything could happen. If I don't hear within another week, then I will contact them. I double-checked my emails this morning in case it was emailed - but it was not.
This is my second visit to this new doctor. I hope we can build a good relationship - albeit only seeing him once every few months - if that. I was seeing my 'old' doctor most years only one time a year. Then he decided I needed to come in more often - not that I was having any problems. He's getting ready to retire so maybe he needed more money cause there was nothing wrong with me.
I'm doing better today, in spite of my hubby having 'his' talk with me last night. I felt pretty beaten up and bruised by the time he got done. Am I really so bad? I cannot dwell on it. I must do what I think is the right thing to do. Yes, I probably do need to watch my expressions of rolling my eyes and as it was put to me 'dirty looks' when I disagree. sigh. Life is hard.
But I'm grateful God is my Lord and I can run to Him day and night to help me. Father, please cover me with Your Grace, that You give so freely. I need Grace today, Lord. Help me walk in the path You have for me, and not make my own path. I love you, Lord.
Blessings!

There is no limit....
Last night I was told something that broke my heart. I was told that the grandchildren didn't like to be around me and hubby because we bicker and it makes them uncomfortable. I didn't know what to say. I had no defense. I went into my dark place where I try to hide. And that is where I have been all night, awakening this morning to the very same thought. Not only was I a bad mother, but now I'm a bad grandmother. Perhaps not the exact words used, but the words heard.
The grandchildren. ALL of my grandchildren bring me such joy. I always said they kept me young. As they all have gotten older and are more busy, I don't see them that often. None of them. So this comment really surprised me, and cut me deeply. Interestingly it is on the cusp of one of the grandsons asking if he could spend some time with me this week while he is in town.
Yet, in my reading this morning, I read these words in a book........
God asks Moses a question. It's more than a question, it's the question. Your answer to this question, the question, will determine the size of your prayer circles.
"Is there a limit to my power?"
The obvious answer to that question is no. God is omnipotent, which means by definition, there is nothing God cannot do. Yet many of us pray as if our problems are bigger than God...…. God is infinitely bigger than your biggest problem or your biggest dream. His grace is infinitely bigger than your biggest sin.
Are your problems bigger than God, or is God bigger than your problems? Our biggest problem is our small view of God. That is the cause of all lesser evils. And it's a high view of God that is the solution to all other problems.
"Is there a limit to my power?"
Have you answered the question? There are only two options: yes or no. Until you come to the conviction that God's grace and power know no limits, you will draw small prayer circles. Once you embrace the omnipotence of God, you'll draw ever-enlarging circles around your God-given, God-sized dreams.
How big is your God? Is He big enough to heal your marriage or heal your child? Is He bigger than a positive MRI or a negative evaluation? Is He bigger than your secret sin or secret dream?
My answer? My God IS big enough. He will heal my hurt. He will make me more conscious of what I say - not only around the grandchildren, but even when they are not here. He will heal my broken heart. I am so grateful I believe that, that I can trust in Him even when I don't see Him working in me.
Is your God big enough for what troubles you?
Blessings!

Today..... is what you make of it...
Sounds like a simple enough phrase, doesn't it? Today.... is what you make of it.. As I sit here and ponder that thought, my day is full ahead of me. Yes, it will be a busy one. When I leave this room I will be fixing breakfast for hubby and me. Then we will get ready and head to church this morning.
We really enjoy our church. I love that the worship can go on for awhile - what I mean is that it isn't 3 songs and we're done, cause we are on a schedule. Yes, our worship can sometimes go on for an hour, but it is led by the Holy Spirit. You can just feel God's presence at times - and at times I even look around to see if I see signs of angels in the room, it is that intense.
The messages are good too, and right now it is on the Holy Spirit. The more I think I understand Who the Holy Spirit is, the more I learn that I don't have a clue. Yes, I know that He is part of the Trinity - God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The Comforter whom Jesus said would come after He was crucified. But it is good to always learn more.
After church I am hoping I will be motivated to get some things done! Still have boxes to go through and get rid of lots of papers. Tonight we will have what is called "Encounter" at church - which is nothing but worship - no preaching. It goes for an hour and a half and we do plan to attend. Our church is small, which makes it nice and we are getting to know everyone.
Yesterday was an interesting day. We went to a place called "Feed my starving children" with a group from our church. We bagged 'food' to be sent to El Salvador. In this bag is a small scoop of vitamins (powder form), a small scoop of dehydrated vegetables, a cup of soy, and a cup of rice. Then the bag is weighed and sealed and packed. They say that one bag can feed six children. Amazing! I believe they put 16 bags in a box - and we alone (out of about 10 teams) boxed around 24 boxes. Others did more, some did less. All within about 1 and 1/2 hours. We then clean up our table and the next group comes in. It was an amazing experience. I'm hoping to get some of the grandchildren to go next time.
I need to get off here and get breakfast done, hit the shower and get ready for church. I was reading in "The Circle Maker" again this morning about how we need to have a dream. My dreams died a long time ago, I think. I need to learn to dream again. I have let words and actions destroy my heart and I must rise about it and dream again.
Do you need to dream again? Join me on this journey. Let's dream together of what our heart desires.
Blessings!

A few thoughts..... Part 2
Continuing from the topic of yesterday....
Life is not a popularity contest. Leadership is definitely NOT a popularity contest. You will disappoint others. That's not easy for many. Develop your courage to do what is right, even when it's hard, even when it's unpopular. This path leads to something more meaningful than popularity - respect.
Be a little more kind than you believe necessary. It may sound strange, but discover the healing power of kindness. It costs nothing. No committees are involved. No capital required. Just a decision to be a little more kind. It just may open doors. It may be just "what the Doctor ordered for a specific person at that moment". It may be what people remember you for. It will create more of the environment we all wish to work and live in.
Remember your families. I suspect each of you has high expectations for yourself. I've not yet met a person that got "here" on their own. Work is important but don't take your primary relationships for granted. They may not be there for you when your time is perfect.
Turn around and give a hand to someone. Medicine started as a craft industry. One person taught the next person who taught the next person. The opportunity, and I might say obligation, to bring others along is still a potent ambition. Others helped you. Turn around.
Tell others what you see in them while they are present to hear it and be motivated by it. A mother who lost a daughter once said something that has not been forgotten. "I hope my daughter knew she meant this much to others when she was alive." Don't miss an opportunity. I've yet to meet a person that has said, "no thank you, I've had enough appreciation or recognition". It costs nothing. We can get better at it and there's a decent chance it will lift another person at precisely a time they need it.
It's a big company and there's a lot going on. Remember this when you feel left out or missing critical information. It is almost assuredly not intentional. Assume positive intent. It's just easier that way.
Have zero tolerance for non-compliance for the most important things. Define for yourself what those most important things are. For me, it is treating others with respect, employee safety, a healthy work environment, advocating with integrity, and the experience of those around me. Do a check and make sure your actions are matching your intent.
Don't connect dots that don't belong connected. Boy, this is a tough one. It is so easy to fill in the story, and often, not so positively. I assume that we are each doing the best we know (if we knew how to do better, we'd likely do it), have some faith that others have made a reasonable decision. Not everything (in fact, most things) should be personalized. Those of us who are more sensitive will require a bit more practice on this one!
Leaders are always on stage. We teach others what we expect by what we say and what we don't say, what we ignore and what we take on, what we spend our time on and what we don't give time to, what we invest in and what we don't. As leaders, we are always being watched for these clues. It is healthy to do a check-in to see if you are teaching what you want more of. If you're really brave, ask your team what they think is important to you. That mirror, though sometimes painful, is a wonderful leadership development tool.
Put failure in perspective. Serious failures require very intentional and specific interventions. Thankfully, most of the time, that is not the case. We can breathe and talk honestly about the occurrences, the outcomes, and ways to mitigate in the future. Don't forget to check on the individual that is carrying the failure. Your words of encouragement may just well mean the difference between throwing in the towel or getting back on the horse.
Laugh. This is a serious business but we are creative, sometimes crazy, inconsistent human beings. That in and of itself is the source of fabulous comedy. Find humor in yourself and let it lighten the team.
Be Grateful. Life is often hard. Each day make the decision to begin it with a grateful heart. If you have to think of what to be grateful for, and can think of nothing, be grateful for breath. Your spouse, your children, your grandchildren. Things you learned while growing up. Memories you have of special people in your life. Be grateful and share what you have with others. You will never regret sharing who you are.
Be Brave, Be Kind, Be Awesome!!
Blessings!

A few thoughts.... Part 1
Last week someone who is retiring from my company sent an email to all the employees - and this email really impressed me. She said that many people had asked her about highlights of her 39 year career, and also about any regrets, and about 'pearls of wisdom'. The brave ones asked about mistakes she had made. Then she pauses, and said if you are no interested in her comments, thank you for being a part of this great organization. However, if you are interested, read on. I read on.
I'm going to quote her here: In the muck and mire of everyday life, we don't always take the opportunity to pause and realize how noble our work is and the impact we have on people at their most vulnerable and often scary time. ....... For those that are still with me, I'll leave you with a few words that I hope will encourage your soul. (here I am changing a few words, and adding others.)
Raise your hand. Be willing to take on an assignment that you aren't convinced you're prepared to do..... Not being the smartest person with the most content knowledge in the room is not a bad thing. Learn early to assemble teams of people around you that have what you don't.
Own your own career. No one will care about it as much as you will. People are willing to help you achieve your goals but I've yet to meet a mind reader. Be courageous and ask for help. Find someone you admire and do things (1) tell them why you admire them (assume that nobody ever gets enough acknowledgement) and (2) ask them to tell you their story. Find someone in a role that intrigues you. Ask them for feedback about your preparation for the role. I'm confident you won't be disappointed. People want to help.
Do a great job in the role you are in right now. Don't worry too much about the next title you desire. I believe there's a very good chance that the job you may one day have doesn't even exist today. Deliver results. Become invaluable through your performance and leadership. Perfect your ability to tell your own story. If this doesn't come easy, ask somebody that has this gift.
Practice vulnerability. It's not fun to work for a perfect person. Perfect people don't need the input of others. Admit when you've made a mistake. Call a spade a spade. Ask for forgiveness and move on. Not only is this a big load off you, you will teach others that it is ok to not be perfect. Transparency is a gift we can give to those around us. Everybody then leans in to bring their imperfect selves to the table.
Lead from whatever chair you hold. Many of us long to sit in a certain chair, with a certain title, maybe even on a certain floor. Consider the possibility of building your leadership effectiveness wherever you sit today. It will be noticed. People will want to follow you and your journey will unfold as desired. Being patient with yourself is not in conflict with being ambitious.
That is all I'm sharing today - and will finish it up tomorrow. Good stuff, huh. It made me sit back and think as I began to read through these. I hope you also will begin to think of your value and where you want to go in life.
Blessings!

He still hears me ....
Last night when I came home from work I parked on the concrete part of the driveway. When hubby and I came out a little later to go out to eat, there was a puddle under my van. As we had been told a few times by our car repair place that I have an oil leak, that was our first thought. The puddle was about 12" wide and although I DID think it could possibly be fluid from the air conditioner (yeah, at 100 degrees, I am running the air conditioner!) when hubby knelt down and put his finger on the fluid, he was sure it was oil. Plus the engine is running a little rough so could it possibly be my oil had leaked out the past two weeks since I had the oil change? I had been checking at work and nothing had been left on the concrete.
This morning we made plans to drive down to the car repair place and just leave the van until they could get to it, whether today or Monday. Made arrangements to borrow my granddaughter's car should I need it on Monday. So we drive down and I went in and told them what happened and asked if they could just check the oil level. If it was low, or really low, then that would tell me that it really was leaking bad. They had me drive around back where it was checked. The mechanic said that it was a little low, but it wasn't any big deal. When I described that this morning when we went out to the car the puddle had evaporated, they assured me/us that it wasn't oil that had leaked out, but the air conditioner drainage from running the air on my way home from work.
I definitely feel that is an answer to prayer, cause I just didn't know what else to do - but pray. I just asked God to please take care of the problem for that day, cause I had things I wanted to do. And He answered. With being able to use the van, I drove my daughter and two granddaughters around for the day as we pre-celebrated one granddaughter's Monday birthday.
We drove to our knitting group and knitted and chatted for a couple hours. Then we headed out for lunch (Wendy's) and after lunch headed over to get our mani/pedi done. Well, two of us got mani/pedi - the two granddaughters bought just got their nails done. It was nice because business was slow and we were the only ones in there for awhile so was able to get focused attention. After nails I took them all home and came home for a couple hours before we headed out for a birthday dinner for the birthday girl.
Today our birthday granddaughter was very excited to head to San Diego for a weekend with her boyfriend. No, I do not approve of it all, but she is over 21 - in fact, will be 22 this year. And yes, I did voice my opinion to her and told her how I felt about it. I didn't expect her to change her plans. She would be married by now if it was up to the two of them - it's her father who is the royal jerk. And that's a whole nother post that I probably will not create. Elopement could be an option. Not this weekend though.
I started this Saturday morning and this is Sunday afternoon. I reckon I should start working on the boxes I have piled up of papers. I need to close my eyes and start tossing. No one cares about most of the stuff I have piled up over the years. Seriously. Most I don't even know what it is. It is just hard for me to go through things or clean with all parties of this household are home. It's annoying and I'll just leave it at that. But I need to clean everything out if I plan to sell in a couple years. I want to retire at some point, and as long as we live in this house, I cannot. Another long story.
I did the life line screening last week. I am awaiting the results of the 5 big tests I had done. I know I have some arthritis, but am curious about the osteoporosis which the doctor says I have. I do need to take calcium, I reckon, and vitamin D. I just take what pills I have to take. And fight against everything else. Which reminds me, I need to run to the drugstore as my prescription is ready for pickup. Maybe I'll give in and buy dinner... and we can pick it up while we are out. I resisted for lunch. It irritated me, really. I cooked a nice big breakfast. Bacon, eggs, toast, applesauce, tomatoes, etc. 4 hours later it's 'what's for lunch' attitude. I couldn't believe he was hungry already. So guess I need to hush and sign off as I'm just starting to ramble... hope you are having a good day.
Blessings.

Blessings.
