Renewed and Refreshed - at least Spiritually

I feel like I have been running a marathon this week.  Every day work has been busy, and every evening we have had something going on.  Even with not working, hubby has had things he needed to do during the day that wasn't the norm.

Monday evening we had our time in the prayer room, Tuesday evening we had dinner with friends, last night was the Seder dinner at church (which was awesome) and tonight we have our group meeting at our house.  Needless to say, I'm tired physically.  Tomorrow is considered our 'spring holiday' so we are off work.  I really do need a day off - but I already have things booked to do.

Hubby wants to get the dog over to the 'pet hotel' to get bathed and nails clipped.  He wants to get my van to our repair place as the brakes seem to be squealing more than usual - but it is just for a check in the morning.  I have a 10AM eye doctor (finally) appointment and 2PM am scheduled for the prayer room at church again.  After that, I can play. (Yea)  I need to go to the grocery and then make matza ball soup and charosis for my neighbor.  I think Saturday is the last day of Passover so she is probably wondering why I haven't gotten it over to her yet.  I just haven't had time to make it.

Saturday morning I'm scheduled for a 7.5 mile walk with a girlfriend, breakfast, then donate blood in the afternoon.  I don't know what else is on the agenda.  Maybe a nap.

In reading my middle child's post on facebook yesterday, it appears he got chosen to be on the jury for a DUI.  I'm sure he was thrilled, but yet, I think he is pleased to be chosen.  It is something different in his day; he is smart and he can listen attentively and make the right decision.  Understandably, if someone is given a ticket for a DUI, chances are they were driving under the influence and why fight it.  But, I guess there is always the doubt of what their alcohol level was.  Since this child has also received ticket(s) for DUI, I'm sure he will be both sympathetic and trustworthy to make the right decision.

A friend is burying their daughter today.  My heart breaks for them as I think back nearly 12 years ago when my daughter had leukemia, but by the grace of our God, He healed her.  This daughter died of cancer. She was 42, and leaves behind a husband and two young children.  She fought the fight for at least a couple years, but finally let go last week.  Hubby is going to go to the funeral, but still being fairly new at work, I hesitate to ask off.

I want to choose wisely and not cause problems in asking for time off.  Especially since I am taking off an entire week May 1 - May 7 to go back to Indiana for the mini marathon and to visit with family.  I asked for that time off a couple months ago, wanting to be sure I asked for it first.  Now I realize that asking for the lst of the month means working late on the 30th.  No biggie - my plane doesn't leave until afternoon on the lst so I will be able to pack on the morning of the lst.  My work requires that all authorizations for the previous month be inputted asap - meaning on the lst of the month.  Oh well - my coworker loves overtime and will be thrilled to be able to get to have it.

I've had my share of overtime over the years and although the money does come in handy, if it really isn't needed, I choose not to do it.  I leave the house at 6AM and don't usually get home until 6PM - and I'm tired when I get home.  Granted, I don't have to be here until 8AM, but by leaving early I miss the heavy traffic and I also have time to do my blog when I get here to work.  I rarely get on the computer at home - there just isn't time.  I really do need to get on it and clean up some emails - I can delete off my iphone, but they stay on my computer.  Double duty, double delete.  If I really need to put in overtime, I skip the blog and start working when I come in, plus work through my lunch hour and perhaps an hour later.  At least it is short term.

Our company bid for the acute population throughout the State got denied, and we even lost what we had in one county.  Yesterday there was a meeting with AHCCCS to see if we could get some of the acute in Maricopa county.  I haven't heard the outcome of that meeting yet.  Not sure how the loss - or gain - will affect us as we are small and are still serving the long term care population in a few counties.  There are a lot of areas we need to work on that affected the bid - i.e., claims processing timely, etc.  Those things are crucial in a bid, as well as presentation of what we can do.  I understand that part didn't flow too well either, and it is an oral presentation.

My thoughts are lazy this morning... just don't want to work on any one thought.  I had a thought, but coworkers came in and spoke to me - so I lost it. :-)  Must have been a good one.

Oh yeah - back to my reason for the title of today's blog!  I got up at 3AM this morning instead of 4AM because I had also signed up for that time to pray at home.  As I have mentioned in an earlier blog, our church is praying 24/7 this entire week.  They had a couple open slots and I was able to jump in and fill them.  Tomorrow afternoon will be the final hour I have signed up for.  I love to get quiet and spend time in prayer.  This morning I got up and went into my room to pray and it was so cool that when I heard the clock strike 4AM, I felt refreshed spiritually.  It's been tough lately, just living life.  I needed an in-filling and a refreshing time with the Lord.

My coworkers will all be arriving soon and since I am at a loss at the moment what else to talk about, I think I need to call it a 'blog'.

Hope you have a great day!

Blessings!

Starting Over

My little sister text'd me last night that she FINALLY was going to start reading the 40 day devotional of The Circle Maker.  I'm nearly through it the second time.  She wanted me to go through it with her, and the 40 days will end May 4th.  I started this morning with day one, but need to read day two tonight so that we will be on the 'same day' starting tomorrow.  It took her long enough!  I love this devotional and both times that I have already gone through it have been revealing in many ways.

Today is weigh in.  I know, I said I wasn't going to elaborate on this every week, but this week I'm a bit anxious.  Oops!  Guess I'm not supposed to be!

Philippians 4:6
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
We went to Black Angus for dinner last night with our tax man and his wife.  It is her favorite place and the last time we tried to hook up a couple weeks ago - we went to Outback and they went to Texas Roadhouse.  Last night we connected.  Knowing that weigh in was this morning made my choices difficult and yet filling.  I did have the top sirloin, but only ate 1/3 of it.  Oh yeah, I did have a slice of the molassas bread.  With butter on it.  I had a garden salad with vinergarette, and instead of the loaded baked potato that I love, I had steamed broccolli.  Oh, and because we had a coupon, we also got the sampler platter which had shrimp (I ate 2 of the 3) cocktail, fried zucchini (I ate two slices), fried chicken (I ate none), celery and ranch dressing.  I think that is all.  Overall, I don't think I did really bad, but it is more we ate late (around 7PM).  I did get on the treadmill after we got home and burned nearly 200 calories so hope that helps.
Breakfast will wait until after weigh in - which is now in about 20 minutes.  I'm drinking my green tea and water - but not a lot.  Even water weighs!  Oh well, it is what it is.  Next week I'll be back on top of it.  Oh yeah.  Yesterday the email was sent out on the results of last week.  Although I only lost .2 last week and did not make the top 3, I am still overall (at least until today's weigh in) number 3 in the overall weight loss.  I'll still take that.  But I want to be #1 so I am needing to kick it into high gear.
My middle child is at jury duty today - something he was not looking forward to.  He can be so funny sometimes.  I'm already thinking of the funny stories he will have to tell in his blog about the people around him, and perhaps if he gets called to be interviewed for the case.  He has such a talent for creating stories - true or otherwise.
Well, a friend came by to chat, and I had to go weigh in - (didn't lose any - but didn't gain either!  I stayed the same as last week.) and now it is time to get to work.

And a chance to 'start over' and do well for next week.
Hope that you have a great day!
Blessings!

The Prayer Room

I spent some time last night at our church's prayer room.  Our church has asked that people be praying - someone each hour - 24/7 this Passover week.  I had signed hubby and I up for 7PM last night.  We chose to go to the prayer room versus praying at home.

What an experience it was.  The prayer room has been recently redesigned to reflect a 'road'.  There is a 'road' made of cardboard on the floor, going around into a large circle, complete with the yellow line in the middle.  In various locations around this 'road', are certain places to stop and do something.  Hopefully I can remember them all as I share them with you.

The first 'station' has our starting point.  Purifying ourselves.  Cleansing of whatever is troubling us.  Getting it off our mind so that we can focus upon the road ahead of us.

Moving from there, our next stop is another 'release', if you will.  You take a piece of red paper (symbolizing the blood of Jesus) and write down things you want to give up or you need to deal with.  Even though I have verbalized the things I wrote down to God many times, I again wrote them down.  Then you put them through the shredder.  These are things between you and God.

Our next stop is to take communion.  Taking a few minutes to pause and think about Jesus and what He did for me.  For you.  Remember His body, scourged and beaten, hung on the cross; His blood flowing freely.  Giving His life up as our final sacrifice, that I (and you) will be able to live with Him eternally.  No lamb sacrifices were required after Jesus died (although the Jews still did it because they did not believe) - but for us who love and follow Jesus, He is our lamb sacrifice for our sins.

The cross is the next stop.  It was covered in paper and there was a note to write on the cross those whom you are praying for.  Then, using the ink pad laying on the table, ink your fingertips and touch the names you have written down, symbolizing your prayers for them.  That was a very moving experience, one that brought me to tears.

From there we moved on to a table at which the photos of our church staff were placed.  Praying for each one of the staff members and their families, I was able to see specifically whom I was praying for as I prayed.  Prayed also for the church, for a supernatural blessing of finances that could pay off the church mortgage and free the church to move into the community unrestricted.

After spending some time there I moved to the next 'station' at which tools were placed.  I think it was to represent a repair station.  At that location we prayed for healings to take place, for broken relationships, troubled marriages.  As I sat there, I remembered several that needed prayer for various things.

From there we moved to the station to pray for our community.  That we will be able to reach those in our community who need Jesus; who need healings; who need relationship.  We do these things already by the carnivals, market on the move, project connect and other things, and we prayed for open doors that will draw the community to the church.

Then we had the best part.  A time of 'filling up'.  Behind some screens so that you will feel 'alone', there was a chair, some cushions, scriptures, a mirror.  You were encouraged to just sit, or kneel, and let the Holy Spirit fill you.  To get rejuvenated, refreshed, restored.

I hated to leave, but knew that hubby had already finished and was waiting for me outside.  I am hoping I can find some time to go back yet this week, at least for a short time.  It was a blessing to be able to put my 'things' out of my mind, and instead focus upon Jesus and give Him my devoted attention.  Yes, I have my 'quiet time' in the mornings, but it isn't the same.

In fact, after my experience in the prayer room, I was longing to remodel the house and really set my prayer room up - but, for now, I can not.  Too much 'stuff'.  Little by little I am getting rid of it, but it will take time to do what I'd like to do.  If I ever can.  But, God knows my heart and He knows my every desire.  If it is to be, He will bring it about.  I just need to be patient.

As I sat here and shared the experience of the stations in the prayer room, I hope you have been able to visualize somewhat the different locations (although I didn't give you all the details) and have been able to mentally walk through those places in your heart.  What would you do at each location?  What would  you say to God?  To Jesus?

This is a very good week to make some life changes.  New life commitments.  I've made a couple.  Only by the grace of God will I be able to stand firm.  I can do nothing in my own power, and lean solely upon Him to accomplish the things I have identified I want - need - to do.  My prayer is that you, too, will take some time to reflect on the upcoming 'Good Friday' where we acknowledge Christ's death on the cross, and Sunday, when we celebrate Christ's resurrection.

He died for me, and for you.  And He rose from the dead, for me, and for you.  Hallelujah!

Blessings!

Passover Week

For us Christians, we celebrate Passover week in a different way than the Jewish people do.  The Jewish recognize Passover week as the reminder of when God led the Israelites out of Egypt, out of bondage to the Egyptians.  They put the blood of a lamb on the doorpost of their houses, and when the angel of death came through and killed the first born of all things, including the Pharaoh's son.  Only then would Pharaoh let them leave, and even then he changed his mind and chased after them.  The rest of the story is their history.

But for us Christians, we celebrate Passover a different way.  We recognize it as not only the Israelites escaping from Egypt, but we celebrate Jesus going to Jerusalem on a white donkey, on the day we celebrate 'Palm Sunday'.  It is called such as many people waved palm branches and laid their cloaks on the ground for the donkey to walk across.  It was their way of showing honor and respect.  Jesus on the donkey was showing humility.  He didn't come dressed in royalty and riding on a fancy white horse, but on a lowly donkey.

Passover, in which what we call the 'Seder Meal', was celebrated with His disciples in an upper room that had been prepared for them.

My neighbor is Jewish and although she is not a stoic Jew, she does honor some of the old traditions.  I knew she ate pork, which the Jews do not, for I have taken many pork items over to her and she has devoured them.  We talked the other day when I was visiting with her about the Jewish passover.  I shared that hubby and I are attending a Seder dinner at our church this Wednesday evening.  It is a remarkable experience and I encourage anyone to attend one.  It helps understand more of what the Israelites endured and what their escape meant.  As I talked with my Jewish friend, she shared that they always went to synagogue when the children were growing up, but once they left home, they never went.

Some things never change.  That happens with Christians too.  They try to raise the kids up to go to church, and when the kids move away from home, they feel their 'duty' is done.  Completed.

I was really surprised at her statement and commented on it.  She explained that she only went so that her children could go to Hebrew school.  She never felt any connection to stay.  Wow.  That really blew me away.  Unfortunately, not only do her children not go to synagogue, they don't have any relationship with her either.  She has not seen or talked with any of them for a few years now.  In fact, her oldest son died of a brain tumor and she was not even notified.  Her caretaker heard about it and shared the information.  She has not seen her grandchildren in years.  They have nothing to do with her.  But that is probably an entire different subject - and yet, all these things happen to us Christians as well.

I found it interesting that until she became unable to walk, and her husband was still alive, they would have a Seder dinner in their home for about 40 people.  It must have been before we moved into that neighborhood about 18 years ago. She doesn't get to do Seder dinners anymore, unless someone brings it to her.  I think last year her brother-in-law came over and he took her through a Seder dinner.   I make matzo ball soup (which is actually pretty good) and charosis (a Jewish apple dish) and take to her sometime during the week.  I should have made it this weekend, but it just didn't get done with everything else I was involved in.  Hopefully I can get it made one evening this week and hubby can take it over during the next day.  I know she eats dinner every day at 5PM and since I don't even get home until 6PM or so I will have to prepare it the night before.

Back to Passover week, our church is doing a 24/7 prayer week.  Another church a friend attends has asked members to give up things so that they can keep their thoughts on Jesus during this week.  Hubby and I go to the prayer room tonight to spend time praying for specific things identified.  I also have time scheduled during the week to spend praying, but not in the prayer room.  I'm sure hubby does as well.  We plan a time of prayer during our group meeting on Thursday evening.

The Jewish people will remove all breads and anything with yeast in it - well, it should already be out of their house.  My neighbor is a stickler for getting breads and things with yeast in it out.  I don't know how faithful her caretaker is about doing it, but she believes he gets it all out.  She is unable to check it so she has to trust him.   I like the matzo crackers so I usually buy some just before Passover.  In fact, I picked up some at the grocery yesterday.  A lady came by while I was determining what to buy, and she shared a recipe of what she called 'Matza Brie'.  You soften the Matzo by running water over it, then break into pieces, mix in with egg, and fry it.  She said it was like eating French toast.  Hmmmm.  I suppose that means one then pours syrup over it.  Sounded good anyway.

We don't remove breads and crackers made with yeast out of our house.  We eat them. :-)  We believe that Jesus came to give us freedom, not bind us to a set of rules like the Pharisees did to the Jewish people.  Jesus doesn't want us to follow rules, He wants us to follow Him.  There is a difference.  What is important for one person, may not be important to another to follow.  Only God can lead each one to follow Him in their own way.  For some they put themselves in 'prison' with their 'can not, have not, should not' attitudes.  Christ sets us free from all that.  He will show us what He chooses for us to let go of.  And when we follow Him, we do it willingly.  It isn't hard to give us, when it is our gift to Him because we love Him.

Jesus said the greatest commandment is to 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind".  The second greatest commandment is "Love your neighbor as yourself".

As we go through this Passover week, I hope you take some time to think about the journey this week started.  It began with Jesus riding into Jerusalem on a donkey, and ended with Him being crucified and dying on a cross.

And He did it all, willingly and freely, for you, and for me.  Think about His sacrifice for us, the Lamb of God.

Blessings!

Celebrating Aunt Mae

Aunt Mae.  We have known her right about 30 years now.  We met Aunt Mae and her three sisters at church.  They adopted us - and we adopted them.  Two of the sisters have since passed away, as have all the spouses.   Today we are celebrating Aunt Mae's 100th birthday - which is actually on Monday, March 25th.  100 years.  I understand her father lived to 104 and her mother lived to be 91.  She could be around several more years.

Unfortunately she has fallen often lately, and doesn't see as well, so has taken to using a walker.  She hasn't driven for several years, depending on her youngest sister, Aunt Sue (who is 90) to drive her around.  They have had to drop out of the numerous activities they did at church and just come to the service on Sunday.  That happens when one gets older.

Aunt Mae taught Sunday School for the 2-3 year olds for over 50 years.  What a blessing she is!  She sang in the choir.  She donated, she cooked in the kitchen on Wednesday evenings for years.  She traveled to Barbados and other places to help build churches.  I have no clue of all the things that Aunt Mae has done over the years.  Or of all the people she has helped.   She definitely has been a blessing to many.

There is going to be a very short skit at the start of the celebration today and hubby and I are playing the parts of Aunt Mae (me) and another friend who turned 100 in January, Orin (hubby).  We have inflated walkers to come into the room with.  I have curled my hair on top and had planned on powdering it to make it lighter, but am hoping I can get by without it.  Then all I would have to do is comb it out.  Wash it too, for I have it full and tight with hair spray.  I plan to wear a long black skirt and have a top and open blouse to wear to complete the ensemble.  Hubby is going to wear a pair of red and white checkered pants that belonged to a friend's dad and she wanted him to wear them.  I'm hoping we can keep a dialog going for the two minutes we are allowed.  Every time we start, we forget what we're going to say.   Part of me wishes we hadn't agreed to do it when asked, but just enjoy it all - but still, it is fun to be a part of the celebration.

I believe they expect at least 200 people there, with family coming in from out of town.  I heard rumor that Pastor Steve will be there, my mentor and friend.  It will be good to see him.   I've heard from two of my children that they will be there with their families.  I'm glad they are thinking of coming as I know Aunt Mae will be appreciative of it.  She and Aunt Sue have been so much a part of our lives.

In fact, my daughter lived in Aunt Mae's trailer years ago for a short while.  They always remember my grandchildren's birthdays - and usually the children too, although I don't think they send cards anymore.  Over the years thoughts of Aunt Mae, Aunt Sue, Aunt Lena and Aunt Vera have always brought smiles.  Each one unique in their own way.

Aunt Mae used to tell me that Aunt Sue was the typical little sister - always telling her what to do.  I had to laugh when I asked Aunt Mae last Sunday did she ever imagine her own dependence upon her little sister.  She said no, she never thought she'd have to depend on her like she does.  Aunt Sue gets her clothes out for her every day and helps her get dressed, fixes her meals, takes her most everywhere.

My little sister and I joke around about us living together when we get older.  I don't expect it ever to happen.  She loves Florida and the beaches.  I love Arizona.  But, maybe in about twenty years or so we can at least spend more than a week together in Florida and she can come out here in hurricane season.  She can have Indiana - tooooo cold for me!  In fact, getting off the subject of Aunt Mae here, but Indiana is expecting a lot of snow this weekend - and it is going to be cold!  I saw where they had closed the Brickyard Restaurant at the 500 Track because of the cold weather and snowy conditions.  What is going on?!!

But back to Aunt Mae.  100 years.  Oh the stories I am sure she could tell us, if she could remember them all!  Her mind isn't quite as sharp as it used to be, but she is still doing well.  She smiles a lot and makes you think she is, anyway.

I hope I get to live as long as Aunt Mae.  Not to be a burden on anyone, but so that I have many more years to live life.  However, only God determines my years and He knows the plans He has for me - today could be my last day on earth.  It could be 40 years from now.  I have no idea.  I know one thing, I need to be ready, whenever that moment in time comes.

Aunt Mae is ready.  Accepting Jesus Christ as Lord at a young age she has served Him faithfully.   Thank You, God, for blessing our lives so abundantly with this child of Yours.

I want to be like Aunt Mae.    May you, too, want to live long and enjoy life to the fullest.  I know Aunt Mae has.

Blessings!

It's a KEEN day!

Today is Friday, therefore, it is a jean day here at work.  We have to "pay" in order to wear jeans on Fridays.  It really is worth it some days.  Today is one of them.  It's been a busy week and just being able to chill out and be comfy is worth it.  We pay $2 to wear our jeans - but it all for a good cause.  All the money collected each quarter is donated to a charity.  Sometimes to a homeless shelter, sometimes to a food bank, sometimes to a non-profit veterans project; anything that contributes to the welfare of others.  It's for a worthy cause, therefore I will wear my jeans and pay the $2.  Sometimes we also get a 'free' jean day, which we did last Wednesday because we were having our St Patty's day luncheon.  I like those days too.

But we aren't allowed to wear flip-flops (or thongs, whatever you call them) and we aren't allowed to wear tennis shoes.  Even with our jeans.  For me, it hasn't been a big deal for I usually wear my boots.  Today, however, I remembered that my KEEN shoes that I got for my birthday last year from my sissy could be worn.  They are sandals, closed toe (sorta) and although they have a rubber sole, they are considered a sandal and I can wear them.  And they are very comfortable.  And that makes me happy.  My feet like to be flat once in awhile.

Friday.  It took all week to get here.  Not only have I had a busy week here at work, my evenings feel like they have been full as well lately, although in looking at my calendar, I don't have many evenings filled.  I guess it is because I don't get home until around 6PM that by the time we have dinner and settle down, it's time for bed and do it all over again the next day.  I know hubby has been watching tv during the day, but we haven't had much time to watch any in the evenings since Monday after we had dinner out with friends.  I had to watch the Biggest Loser and see who won.

Tonight is UFO night - Un Finished Object.  Projects that were started and not completed can be brought to the church tonight and you can sit around and work on them while fellowshiping with others.  I have a quilt I can take to work on.... I'm getting this started, but I certainly don't want to be in charge of it.  But then again, it wouldn't be so bad, I guess.  It would 'force' me to get on my projects and get them done.  I've been meaning to work on this one for over a year and getting started on it now could be a good thing.  Plus it would give me a night out once a month with other women.  The only one we have had thus far had six women show up - which is a good number to fellowship with. And we bring snacks.  Our group got cancelled last night so I have a bag of snacks I can take if anyone wants any.

Reading in my devotional this morning I been re-reading a couple days over and over.  Today I read again how vague we are in our prayers.  How do we know if God has answered our prayer if we are vague in asking for things.  We need to be more specific in what we ask for.  The question was written - "what is your Jericho'?  I think I've written on this before for I have read this book before so I won't elaborate on it.  But I was asking God this morning to help me identify what is my 'Jericho' that I want results for.  I thought of all the prayers I've prayed and for things and for people I have prayed for.  But what do I REALLY want God to answer?  I mean, I pray, so obviously I do want God to answer my prayers, but what should I be focused upon?  What is important to me enough that I will spend time with God specifically detailing what I want Him to answer?  This morning I asked God to help me pray more specifically.

I know I pray specifically for my boys.  Sigh.  I love them with all my heart, but what alcohol does to them when they over-indulge grieves me.  I don't want them to spend their later years with liver issues, health issues.  With working in the medical field, I read about the effects of alcoholism.  It isn't fair to their families what they do to themselves as their families will be the ones to take care of them.  It is preventive.  There is nothing wrong with an occasional drink.  It is the excess that kills and destroys.  Therefore I pray that whenever they over-indulge that the liquid will turn sour within their belly.  It will make them sick.  They will desire no more.

I pray for other family members as well, for various reasons.  I pray intently for myself, for I know that I need much prayer to be able to live as I should.  I probably beat myself up more than I should, but God knows that I only want to be His servant and be obedient unto Him.  I don't want the world to control my life, how I live.  I want to be free to be able to serve.  I'm restricted somewhat by circumstances, but that is the choice I've made.  I need to be watchful of open doors and opportunities, and I need to be available.

So much I need to do; a life to live.  What about you?  If you could change something in your life, what would it be?  Would you change behavior?  Attitude? Jobs? Decisions?  I know there are some things I am wiser for.  I'm sure you are too.

Other than the shoes part - I hope that this is your KEEN day - that you will have a day full of God's blessings and faithfulness.  His mercies, His grace, His faithfulness is new every morning.

Blessings!

I love surprises!

Yesterday was a weigh in day for me.  I probably shouldn't talk about the challenge I'm in, for that makes me also accountable to you.... but it's only been two weeks so I'm still very conscious of what I am doing.  And I'm very conscious that this past week I wasn't really good.

We had friends over for dinner on Saturday night and ate leftovers for lunch on Sunday.  Most of the meal consisted of recipes out of my biggest loser cookbook so they were lowfat.   Except for the ice cream dessert.  Sunday evening we ate sandwiches - and gasp! potato chips - after a memorial service.  Monday evening we went out to dinner with friends.  Not too bad - Souper Salad.  And ice cream for dessert.  The rest of the time I THINK I have been fairly good - just not overly so.

So imagine my surprise when I got on the scale yesterday and I had lost .2 pound.  Yes.  .2  - hey - it's a loss and not a gain after all I had eaten.  Oh, did I mention the pot luck we had on Friday here at work?  I did behave pretty much on that, I think.  But, I was not expecting any loss, so was pleasantly surprised at even the .2 and yes, I will take it.  It made me think that if I HAD behaved myself, what would it have been?!  So I am again 'pumped' and trying to watch what I eat.  I really need to get more exercise in, but just finding time for it is hard.  Like I said, I love surprises - especially when I'm not expecting them!

I thought about walking the treadmill or doing a video last night.  I worked until almost 6PM and didn't get home until probably 6:30.  Hubby was at church and it was just me and Marley.  And I was tired.  Been working some overtime this week and getting home a little later most days.  I was tired.  I decided to enjoy my 'space' so after feeding Marley and changing clothes, I sat down and played my words with friends and caught up with some reading of emails on my iphone.  I haven't been on my computer all week.  I need to get on it as I have some things I must do - but just haven't.

It's hard to explain - when I was working before and came home and got on the computer I would always get 'in trouble' and get a lecture about not being sociable.  So now what do we do?  We watch TV or play words with friends.  I was more productive on the computer.  I need to get on it and get some things done - but with class tonight I can't.  I need a month alone so that I can rest, sleep, focus, and get refreshed and rejuvenated.  I think a month might be a refresher course.  To do whatever I want to do - whenever I want to do it.  What I would probably do is cram pack it full of things I want to do and then been more tired by the end of the month!  But it sounds good. And I would have fun.

We had corned beef and cabbage again yesterday here at work - this luncheon was from Chompies.  It was really, really good.   I took some home and had a sandwich for dinner.  If my middle child wants some and calls hubby early, he may be able to make connections to get some - I know he likes corned beef.  And I think he would really like this for a sandwich.  We are already tired of corned beef and I told hubby to check with the neighbors if they wanted it.

This Saturday is going to be such fun!  Our adopted Aunt Mae is turning 100 years old on Monday, March 25th, but we are celebrating on Saturday.  Her 91 year old sister is busy planning everything.  Hubby and I are to do a short skit - still trying to figure out exactly what to do.  We have most of our props; I need to either powder my hair or find a short blond curly wig to get close to Aunt Mae's hair color.  Hubby is to be Orin, a friend who turned 100 last January 4th.  I get to be Aunt Mae, of course.  Should be fun.  I need to find a nice birthday card for her too.

Colossians 1:10-11 - "We pray...that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way; bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience."

That is my prayer for you today, and for me.  May everything you do, say, think - all bring glory to Him.  May God bless you and keep you, may His face shine upon you, and bring you peace.

Blessings!

The Coach is in!

This morning was the time set for Coach Olivia to give me a call to talk about my 'healthy pathway' profile.  It was a great conversation and I feel pumped to keep doing what I'm doing - eating more healthy and trying to work exercise in.

We discussed not only my eating habits but also my exercise habits.  I was grateful I didn't get 'beat up' about not getting as much exercise in as I had listed I wanted to.  I did explain to Coach Olivia that I am trying to focus on my walking now due to the Mini Marathon on May 4th.  We moved exercise such as strength-building to the end of May, so that I don't have that pressure on me.  Yes, I had selected it to work on, as well as aerobic, but some things need to be focused on more at this time.

It was a nice conversation and I look forward to her next call in April.  She will call me about every 4-6 weeks to check on me and see how I'm doing, plus I will be able to email her whenever I have any questions.  I told her about my joining the 'biggest loser' here at work and how I had come in third place last week on weight loss!  This week it won't be as good.  Hopefully I haven't gained any.

Speaking of the The Biggest Loser - wasn't Danni looking awesome last night at The Biggest Loser finale?  I believe she lost 102 pounds total and she looked amazing!  Her behavior showed she was excited but that she really wasn't sure what to do with all that weight loss.  She won $250,000.  I definitely don't need to lose that much, but have my goal in my mind on what I would like to lose.  I shared that with my Coach and she agreed it was in the right range and very do-able.

So now I'm excited about this weight-loss journey once again that I have placed myself on.  As long as other people don't discourage me, I can get through it just fine.  Discouragement comes in many forms, as you know.  Even "encouragement" can become discouragement if it is pressure.  You know what I'm talking about!

This is short cause it is about time for me to get busy with work, but I wanted to say something about my Coach call.

So how are you doing?  Have you set any goals you want to achieve this year?  What do they look like for you?  Take it one day at a time - eat less processed foods and more fresh fruits and vegetables!

Got to get to work!

Blessings!

An update and other thoughts...

Friday was I wrote about my van issues - thinking it was the starter that had gone out.  It wasn't, thank You Jesus!  It was only the battery.  An easy, and less expensive fix.  Another good thing is that they also checked the starter and alternator and they were fine.  All is well and the van is operational again.  My coworker took me home and all was well.

It was a busy weekend for us.  Saturday morning we got our taxes completed - getting a little back; not as much as in the past, but some so that we can pay on some bills.  We had tentatively planned on volunteering at the church carnival on Saturday, but we didn't receive a callback for the area requested, so went ahead with our original plans of having some friends over for dinner.  This is one of my favorite things that we don't do often enough.  I fixed parmigiana chicken with homemade marinara sauce and spaghetti, salad, deviled eggs and garlic bread.  She brought macaroni salad and potato salad left over from a birthday party the night before.  I don't eat it but hubby does.  Needless to say, we ran out of room on the table for I hadn't thought ahead to add a table leaf or two.  (note to self; put leaf in table)   Everything turned out good and with vanilla ice cream for dessert, it was the perfect ending to the meal.  We had a nice evening.

Sunday of course brought church.  It was a nice surprise our ex-daughter in law brought our granddaughter and two of her friends to church.  We got to love on Hailey a little bit.  Then of course it was so cool to see our Bethany for a few minutes, and her brothers.  Our youngest grandson, David, is so funny.  When we stopped by his classroom to see him, as we often do, he was busy coloring and wouldn't come to us.  We went over to him and he would just look at me and grin and kept coloring.  Finally he stopped and handed me the picture; he said it was mine.  Of course it now has a place on our refrigerator.

After church we had a little while to relax then headed back to church for a memorial service for a dear friend.  It was a nice service and we attended the meal afterwards and visited with friends.   After we got back home and I let my food settle, I got on the treadmill and walked 'hills' for a little over 4 miles while watching 'Beauty and the Beast'.  It is one of my many favorite movies.  Plus in my room I only have movies for the kids; not any chick flicks and I was too lazy to go pick one out.  Hubby came in the room shortly after I went in there to see what I was watching.  Seeing what it was, he decided it was 'too mature' for him and went to watch his own tv shows he tapes.

I am rambling now and coworkers are coming in so need to get off here and get signed in.  It's going to be a long day, I'm sure, and definitely a busy one.   I'm praying for favor, that I can complete every thing quickly and completely.

Hope your day is productive.

Blessings!

And so it starts... or rather it doesn't...

Sigh.  It seems like it is 'always something' at times.  I'm sure you feel that way too.  You no sooner get one thing taken care of when another thing happens.  Sickness. Tragedy. Car troubles.  Oh - did I mention car troubles?  Let me tell you about mine!

It wasn't long ago that I had to have a leak on the transmission fixed as well as the serpentine belt.  I think I mentioned that in an earlier blog.  Yesterday morning when I started the van up there was a second hesitation before it started.  Enough to notice.  I was hoping my finger had slipped in turning the key - anything.  Last night as I prepared to leave work, there was about a three second hesitation.  I knew then there was something wrong and I had a good idea of what it was.  No clicking; just silence.

Thankfully, as I pondered the situation on the way home, I decided to call hubby to let me park in front of him (we have a one lane driveway) 'just in case'.  That way if I had car issues we could still use his car.  Well, that is exactly what happened this morning.  I get the van all packed up and ready to leave - when, click-click-click-click!!  Yep - the starter wouldn't turn over.  I asked hubby to drive me to work.  I have a coworker who lives near me so am going to ask her to take me home, if she is here today. I didn't think to call her this morning.  Hubby fussed some about his inconvenience (he was going to go to the gym) but he did bring me.

But I'm thankful today.  Why?  Several reasons.

1.  I got the 'warning' twice yesterday something was about to go out.
2.  The van started both times yesterday without problems, getting me to and from work safely.
3.  I parked in front of hubby so that we could use his car for transportation this morning.
4.  We are only a mile from where we get our car repairs done so AAA can tow it there at no cost.
5.  I trust the place we take the vehicles to.
6.  It didn't start this morning rather than not starting here at work - 21 miles from home.
7.  Minor inconvenience to get to work this morning and find a ride home, or call hubby to come get me.
8.  I'm still at work early enough to write on this blog.
9.  I'm grateful there is room on my credit card so that I can get the starter replaced.
10.It's POTLUCK FRIDAY here at work and I brought brownies (although I won't eat any).

I could probably come up with a few more things to be thankful for, but I am truly grateful the starter on the van stopped working at home and not here at work.  That would be extremely stressful.

Hubby was a little discouraged this morning.  After I had mentioned to him about the hesitation in starting yesterday, he shared this morning that he had gotten up early and had gone outside and prayed over my van, that it would start this morning and tonight.  And it didn't.  But I still feel what has happened is better.  If it had worked today, we would not have gotten it into the shop, because it would still be working.  With it happening this morning - Friday - if they can't get to it today they have time tomorrow cause I don't need the vehicle and I don't have to find a ride to work.  It's the best thing.  Other than having to pay for it.

So that is how my morning has started.  I have a lot of work to do today from being in meetings all week.  But, I do have a job that will pay for the repairs on my van, and put food on the table, and pay the bills.  I am thankful.

Luke 18:1 'Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.'

Just because we pray and we don't get the answers we want doesn't mean we should stop praying.  I have been praying some requests for years - and have not seen results - or at least the results I want or expect.  But God is working and I need to do my part and just keep praying that He will answer.  And I am confident that He will, but it will be in His timing, not mine.

Just like my van.  God could have answered prayers and started it this morning.  But He did the best thing - not starting it so that we'd get it fixed.  I wasn't stranded.  I was home.

Perhaps you prayed a prayer and it didn't get answered.  At least not the way you wanted it to.  Did you give up on God?  Did you quit praying?  That didn't help your request get answered either, did it?  Like the woman who kept going to the judge and pestering him to help her until he gave in, we need to keep bringing our requests to God with the belief He will answer, but it will be in His timing and His way.

We may pray for financial relief (and He knows we all need it), but we have to do our part to get it.  We may pray for healing, but He may want us to go to the doctor and use the doctor to heal us.  And then again, His healing may be delayed because we are to touch others' lives with how we deal with the sickness.  He may leave relationships in chaos, in spite of prayer, because there must be a give and take, forgiveness and grace.  Life is sometimes hard, but it is mostly because we make it that way on ourselves.

Looking back on my life there are many things I would have changed, could I have seen into the future.  I'm sure you feel the same way.  You, as would I, would make many different choices in this journey called life if we had a 'do-over'.  Some we would make the same choices.  But they have been our choices in most cases, and we need to face them, deal with them, make the best of them - always seeking God's favor and will in correcting our wrong choices and setting us on the right path.

Wow - all this deep thinking and I was just telling you about the starter in my van not working properly this morning!  I hope it has given you 'food for thought'.

What are you thankful for today?  Keep praying and don't give up.

Blessings!

Double Circles....

My devotion this morning was about drawing double circles around things I pray about.  Some I have drawn numerous circles around, but this added another concept.  And I've done it numerous times in the past.  And I've already completed a cycle this year.  What is that 'second circle' this author was referring to?  Fasting.  Jesus said that some things can only come out with prayer and fasting.  Yes, he was talking about the demon possessed man whom the disciples could not heal.  But just like the demon that had ahold of the man, our bondages - many we have placed upon ourselves - can only be broken by prayer and fasting.

I began to search this morning and seek God to inquire what He would want me to fast.  I rarely watch television so to give up television is no biggie for me.  Even the Biggest Loser.  Giving up food?  Yeah, I could do that, but it is such a battle with the hubby sometimes for he thinks I need to eat.  He doesn't get it that giving up food is hard, but sometimes that is what I need to do.  I don't do much else.  Give up caffeine?  No biggie.  I have one, maybe two, cups of coffee in the morning and the rest of the day I usually drink water.  Occasionally a green tea.  I could give up caffeine with no side effects as I drink so little of it.  I completed a 21 day fast the first of the year, but I still ate chicken plus fruit and vegetables.  For me, I need to define exactly what I will give up and write it down.  Otherwise, I find excuses and wonder 'did I really plan to give that up'?

There are some things I need to double circle in prayer.  There are probably some you need to do as well.  Before I start sharing my deepest secrets that I want to see broken, I probably better go on to another subject.  It's not for today.

Today I have to pray for clarity, wisdom, discernment, understanding.  Work has become somewhat overwhelming and for the first time, I feel discouraged with all I have to do and lack of direction on what has priority, and how specifically to work it into my day.  Part of the discouragement comes from all these meetings I have had to attend this week that have taken away from my work and I am behind.  In fact, when I left at 5:30PM yesterday, I had just finished what had come in the day before.  These meetings were to help me understand the new tasks they are assigning to me, how to correct my errors, and I still haven't figured out why I attended a meeting yesterday that after three hours I asked to be allowed to leave so that I could get my work done. This morning I am facing all that came in yesterday, plus what will come in today.  Plus everything else they have decided I can do.  It would have been easier to incorporate into my daily work flow if I was given something new each week, not two or three new things within two days.

So I have been praying this morning and asking God to help me with my attitude, that it be pleasing unto Him.  I have prayed for understanding, that I will understand the directions given to me to complete these tasks.  I have prayed for wisdom, that I will understand exactly what they desire as the outcome.  And I have prayed for clarity and discernment.  What should I do and when should I do it and how should I do it and God, please help my attitude and behavior and speech be faithful to You.  Yeah, I am struggling.

I know that in ALL things God works together with me and for me to help me achieve the things I need to accomplish.  I know that in ALL things that I surrender unto Him, He will walk me through that journey, through the battle, through the fire, through whatever I need to go through, and I will be a victor on the other side.  I know that all these things that I need to learn and incorporate into my daily routine, God will help me understand and determine when and how I need to complete the tasks given to me.    I know all these things.  And yet I struggle this morning.  So I am seeking what to do.  I need to draw double circles.

What about you?  Are you facing a difficult time right now?  Are you struggling with life?  You are not alone.  For one thing, as you read above, you can see other people go through those too.   We all have struggles that affect us different ways.  Different struggles that tear us down, wear us down, but also struggles that help us to grow.

We need to become more tolerant of issues others have, because we have our own issues.  We need to be more considerate of trials and difficult times, because we too, have difficult times and trials.

More than anything else, we need to be faithful to the One who allows us to go through these difficult trials and times - yes, allows us; especially when we create the problems ourselves - so that we will grow and know that our dependence should be upon Him, and not upon anything we can do in our own power.   Some people think that they can live life without dependence upon anyone but themselves.  I pray their eyes will be opened before they are permanently shut, for they will see that it is by God's favor that they have what they have.  Not to say that God doesn't love us all.  I can't think of anything I need, other than Him.  He has provided it all.  Some of what He has given me I haven't been a good steward of.  I need to fix that.  Sometimes I feel my hands are 'tied' with what I can do and what I can not do.  But that is another topic.

For today, I am going to trust that God will provide all that I need when I need it.  I am going to believe that He is walking with me through out this day, helping me not only with my work, but with my learning, my understanding, my discernment, and all that I need.  Why will He do this?  Because I have surrendered it all to Him and I ask Him to.  I am seeking double circles however I can.  He knows what I can do and what I can't, and I am waiting on Him.

My prayer for you today is that you will surrender every issue, every trial, every thing that is disrupting the peace in your life and that as you surrender, you will seek His direction for where He wants to you to.  His leading for what He wants you to do.  Why do this?  Because He tells us to.

I Peter 5:7 - "Cast all your cares (anxiety, etc) upon Him, for He cares for you."

Blessings!

Sorting things out....

Here at work I have been given more and more to do - and more and more to learn to do.  I thought I was doing pretty good with it; last week I learned how to input authorizations for pain management and podiatry, before that it was transportation (all these as well as inpatient).  I did the best I could, thinking I could get a grip on it the more that I complete.  Just hoping I was doing them right.  I struggle with no one actually walking me through some of the training - I watch them do one or two, and get told a few things - and off I go.  So far, I think I've done well.  Until yesterday.  Gasp!  They showed me another thing to do.  I get confused - and somewhat frustrated - for I don't know as yet what exactly I am to do - other than inpatient - on a priority basis.  I get shown all these things and no direction.  That is where my confusion comes in to play.  I'm afraid that I won't be given any more until a month from now and I will be expected to know how to jump in and do them.  I don't operate like that - I have to know specifically how each thing goes so that I can do it correctly.  Yeah, I get somewhat anal about that.

The things I was shown yesterday - well, I asked when they take effect - and was told 'now'.  Sigh.  I have another big training session this morning.  On another matter.  This one will be 'immediately' as well.  I really like to have all my work completed when I leave each day; with all they are giving me to do - I don't know if that will ever happen again.  So it causes me not only confusion on priorities (until someone decides to lay it out for me) and anxiety in getting everything completed that needs to be.  I'm still in a learning stage.

In my quiet time this morning I had to pray that I would keep my attitude 'nice'.  When I get frustrated, my attitude tends to also get frustrated.  I say things, trying to be funny and light-hearted, only I know they sound hard and rebellious.  Well, maybe not rebellious, but how else would you say 'are you going to continue to give me work to do and not let me get it done'?!   I can't work if I'm in training, therefore, what I am responsible for does not get completed.  I left several in my folder last night that didn't get completed before I left.  I was mentally exhausted and decided at 5:15 I wasn't going to stay but to go home and chill.  And I tried to do that.   Had to watch The Biggest Loser though.  The finale is next week; I'm hoping Danni wins it  they all have worked hard, but my favorite is Danni.

With working I am getting less and less completed at home.  Since I don't get home until around 6-6:15, then we have dinner around 6:45-7:00 - and we have been getting to bed around 9PM, there isn't much time to get anything done.  It's hard to plan dinner as I am never sure when I'll walk in the door.  Sometimes it is just easier to go out to eat, but we don't have money for that either.

Our weekends either get packed or hubby thinks they are boring.  This weekend we have the carnival at church and I try to volunteer for it.  However, he wanted to have some friends over for dinner Saturday evening.  That is ok, but it was before I realized it was the same time as the carnival.  Problem is, they usually volunteer too.  He doesn't want to volunteer since his friend isn't doing the hotdogs this year, which is what he volunteered for in the past.  I want to postpone the dinner, but when I mentioned that last night, I got fussed at because we 'never have anyone over'.   All I wanted to do was postpone it one week.  I would love to have people over every weekend but he would quickly grow weary of it.  I actually like to entertain and have company.  Since he has brought it up, maybe I can do some things I want to do, inviting those I want to invite.... just thinking...

So much I want to do; so much I want to get done.   So much to sort out and sort through.  My life is crowded, overwhelmed to the point of discouragement sometimes.  Things I want to do I can't always do.  Various reasons as to why.  I keep telling myself 'some day' I will get to....

And now it is nearly time to get working so need to stop.  When others come in early I get distracted and unable to keep my focus.  I need to see what my calendar looks like for today, when my meeting is, and when am I going to get my work completed.  I'll have to sort out my personal life another time.

Hope that you have your day set and in place before you; ready to face it.  Make it a good and a productive one.

Blessings!

Welcome to Monday!

It feels like Monday came way too fast this weekend!  Saturday I didn't do much of anything after I spent the morning at church doing the Market on the Move.  Got a lot of vegetables, and was willing - finally - to try the eggplant (gag gag).  I found a couple recipes that I thought I could try.... but when I cut into every mini eggplant I got - it was spoiled.  And I had two packs of them!  It was all brown inside and it should be all white.  Oh darn.  Maybe next time.  I had to fix the chipolte salmon.  Wasn't bad.

Yesterday I finally got out to walk again.  I've got to get my training in for the mini marathon and this year with working it is so hard.  Especially since hubby does not enjoy walking.  I harnessed up Marley and off we went.  She was real excited to get to walk.  Drove over to the canal where it is a set path and easier to know where you are going - and off we went.   Marley pulled at times when a bicyclist would ride by or someone was walking their dog(s), but overall she did well.  One mile.  Two miles.  Almost three miles.  Stopped and gave Marley a drink.  She was doing real well.  We went three miles then I turned around and started to head back.  Around four miles Marley would stop in the path and just look at me.  Thinking she needed another drink, I gave her some water.  After which she laid down on the path.  I talked to her a minute or so and got her up and moving again.  Around four and a half miles she did the same thing.  Stopped and looked at me like she was saying 'for real'?  Gave her water, she laid down.  Now I'm starting to chuckle for it is obvious she didn't want to go any farther.  Got her moving again and about five and a half miles she does it again.  Only this time instead of just stopping, she sat down, then laid down, as if to say "I ain't going any further"!   I let her lay there for a couple minutes then encouraged her to get up - we didn't have far to go.  We did a total of 5.93 miles yesterday, and by the time we got to the car, she could barely get her butt up.  On the way to the canal she bounced all over the back seats, so excited she wouldn't be still.  On the way back she curled up on a seat and did not move.   When we got home she walked in and laid out on the floor - her body on the soft carpet and her head on the cool tile.  She laid out most of the evening in one location or another.

Marley is a lot like us.  We get so excited about achieving a goal, or participating in something, or just about anything.  But once we have had our fill of it, we grow weary and kind of lay down and rest.  Or we may start 'early' with the 'I'm done' look.   We give up.  We quit.

Sometimes we do that in relationships.  We're done.  We quit.  We just can't take it anymore.  Sometimes we do it with jobs.  Things happen you don't like so you get even by quitting, after all, you don't feel like they appreciate you anyway.  Or, you may stick it out, but you take it out on your family what you don't feel in your job.

And, at times, we do that to God.  We quit.  We walk away. We're done.  We grow weary of waiting on Him to act on our behalf.  Or perhaps He didn't perform - or doesn't perform - the way we think He should.  We want healing for a loved one - and it doesn't happen.  We pray for financial blessings, and it seems we get further in the debt hole.  We ask for favor, and get discouragement.  So we give up on Him.  He isn't performing to our expectations and desires.

We choose not to stay in it for the long haul - but give up on life; we do stupid things - and yes, we know they are stupid, but we choose to do them anyway because we are tired of making decisions and want someone else to make the decision for us.  We push our responsibilities onto someone else because it is easier than making ourselves do what is expected of us.  We find other things to take our time, our finances, our responsibilities so that we don't have time to deal with any of it.  Because we don't want to deal with life as it comes at us.  We want the easy way out.

So we walk away from that relationship.  We walk away from that job.  We walk away from God.  And we are alone, penniless, and empty.

Only One can restore relationships, only One can bring encouragement to get through tough times, only One can fill you with completeness.  And that is Jesus Christ.  He had to deal with people who were His when He provided for them, but when He told them how they should live, they chose to walk away.   He chose to take the hard path and carry the cross to Calvary.  And there He choose to crawl upon that cross and be nailed upon it, and die.  He chose that, for you, and for me.  He didn't quit because it got hard.  He didn't walk away - although He could have - because He knew the path set for Him.  He loved us so much, even then, that He chose all the pain and suffering, so that we could live.

Marley chose to get up and keep walking yesterday, even though she was 'dog tired'.  She did the entire 5.93 miles.  I thank God for that - I could not carry that 60 pound (at least) dog any distance!  Although she needed to lay down and rest some, she continued to get up and push herself to get to our goal - back to the car.

Where are you at?  Do you keep giving up, quitting, walking away?  Or are you going to persist in maintaining that relationship; continue in the job that you feel is unrewarding (but perhaps looking for one that you can find fulfillment in); seek God to fill that emptiness that is lingering within you?

Life sucks sometimes.  It seems the more we try to make things work, the harder it is and the harder we fall.  We can't seem to find a happy medium to where all goes well, bills are paid, and life is good.  Every day is a day you can make a difference.  Choose to make a difference; choose to be what you want others to be.  Treat them like you want to be treated.

It's Monday.  Make a difference, intentionally.

Blessings!

Drawing a blank...

It took me nearly an hour to get to work this morning.  First, I had a 25 minute drive from Peoria to Camelback Rd, where I saw a bad accident just past Camelback, then traffic started to break apart.  Got on I-10 and thought that I was making good time - only to see a message that 16th street was closed - no biggie, I don't go that way.  I was trying to decide what to do when I finally was able to get through all that and got to work just before 7AM (I left my house at 6:10AM for a 21 mile drive).   Then my hubby texts me that at I-10 and I-17 there was a fatal accident - which will close the road again.  Thank God I was long past that area and almost to work when he sent that text.

Intending to get on my blog after I cooked my breakfast - which I brought with me to fix (egg, toast and bacon all made into a sandwich) - only when I came in two of my coworkers were already here working.  Two others have already arrived.  No one is working - they are all sitting around chatting.  Makes me wonder who will put in for overtime this morning.  I'm always leary when we are 'allowed' overtime and I know they aren't working but talking instead.  None of my business though.  That's between them and God.  It's just hard to focus on my blog with all the chatter about me - and then I feel rude if they try to include me and I don't respond.

I was trying to think what to write about this morning and I think I had something before I got distracted by the traffic.  When traffic backs up and gets crazy with people getting in a hurry and changing lanes I keep my eyes on what is going on, trying to be proactive with the traffic rather than having to slam on my brakes.

I had an opportunity to 'smile' on the way home last night.  I meant to post it on facebook, but never got around to it.  Anyway - I'm driving down the road and the traffic is bunched up a bit - not too bad - when all of a sudden a single occupant zips out of the lane and into the HOV lane.  They speed off.... and an unmarked car flips its lights on and follows along behind it.  Yeah, it made me smile.   How many times do we ask 'where is a cop when one is needed' for someone doing something stupid?

My mind seems to be asleep this morning; I can't think of any topic I can cover in about ten minutes, for that is about all the time I have left.  Maybe I can think of something good for tomorrow.

May the Lord bless you and keep you, may His face shine upon you and give you peace.

Blessings!

So much....

to do... want to do.... should do... could do..... won't do...

I sit here this morning thinking of all that I need to get done, all that I want to get done, and should get done, and could get done, and all I won't get done.  Just another use of the word 'do'.

I'm grateful I can come into work early so that I can begin to accomplish some things.  Yeah, I used a bigger word than 'do'.  Accomplish.  I did get coffee made as soon as I got to work - that is an accomplishment - and today, a much needed one.  For some reason I am feeling really tired; in fact, I turned my alarm off at 4AM and slept until hubby started waking up about 4:30-ish.  It's been a busy, somewhat stressful, week.  Yesterday I started work at 7AM (hence no blog post) and worked straight through until our 5PM meeting which lasted until 6:30PM.

Our meeting last night was interesting; they realigned some of our job duties and gave everyone a 'back up' person should they be out.  Of course the person I work with - she and I are back up for each other.  They have given me a few more things to learn to do.  Sometimes I just don't want to learn something new; I just want to sit at my desk and do my job.  I work when I am at work.   I believe that when we come to work the company expects us to put 8 hours of solid work in for them.  That is what they are paying me for, and I will give them what they are paying me for, and I agreed to work for them for what they offered to pay me.

Although for a few days this week we have been allowed overtime, I'm not going to work overtime today.  For one reason, I have all my work caught up pretty much.  For another, I don't want to.  I want to work on my blog, and there are a couple other things I am choosing to do before 8AM.   Since my mind is jumping around to all I want to get done this morning - first of all this blog - my writing may be somewhat jumbled.

We received word yesterday that my daughter in law's father passed away.  It grieves me for my daughter in law and her mother and family to go through this pain of loss.  Every time I thought of it yesterday my eyes would water and I would cry.  But all of us will pass away at some time.  Her father, a remarkable man whom I saw the love of Jesus in, was more than ready to go see his Maker.  Some people you just know they are ready.  I enjoyed chatting with him over the years and hearing his stories of "doing ministry".   I prayed for them all this morning as reality sets in and their loss overwhelms them.  I'm so glad they know the Lord for it makes this process - not necessarily easier - but more peaceful and comforting.

Today I am joining 'the Biggest Loser'.  Well, it isn't called that, but I am saying that is what I am going to be.  My company is sponsoring a 14 week weight loss challenge for any who want to participate.  It costs $30 to be a part of it.  They are basing it on percentage of weight loss, with the winner getting 50%, 2nd place 30% and third place 20%.  We could use the money so I figure why not try for it!  I could lose 30 pounds and even if I'm not the 'biggest loser', I will still be a winner.  It isn't going to be easy for I do love to eat a lot of things I shouldn't.  But I won't do it if I don't try and this gives me some motivation.  Especially since the former CEO has said he will personally match the prizes for whoever wins.

And since I know my children read my blog on occasion - I will issue a challenge to them.  Starting the day you read this - if you will lose 10% of your body weight by Christmas, I will give you $100 by January 1. For 5% I will give you $50.  It is on an honor system and I don't need to know if you plan to do it - we will be able to tell by the weight loss.  And it isn't just about weight loss, it is about getting healthy.   I would hate to have you sick and die because your weight was a factor.  And if you are like me, getting some extra cash for eating healthy and feeling better, doing things that are good for my body (like exercising) is a bonus.  So - here's to you!  No one can do it for you - it has to be your choice, your decision.  Good luck!!

Five minutes until I go weigh in for the first time and pay my $30 fee.  Scary, but I will do it.  I had thought that I would pass on this, and my girlfriend and I decided we would not pay but just do it ourselves.  Well, that was two weeks ago and I have done nothing.  This will make me do it as I have to weigh in every week.  I don't want to admit I'm not doing anything.  I don't want to remain the same size.  I CAN do this and I am DETERMINED I will get this weight off.

As you read this I hope that you are perhaps thinking of some other challenges you have given yourself and have 'failed' on.  It got too hard, or you placed too many restrictions on yourself.  One thing I have learned over the years - take it one day at a time.  If you blow it, pick yourself up and start over.  Don't beat yourself up over your failures, but choose to believe that you can and will accomplish everything you set your heart on.

I know it isn't going to be easy - but I'm 'in'.  Are you?

Blessings!

What's Next, Lord?

Wow, after writing the blog on Friday for the Lord to 'Surprise me' - He has done more than that.  He has not only surprised me, He has turned my world around in circles, He has walked with me through the journey.  It has been a 'different' weekend, for sure.

I got up early Saturday morning and did a 7.5 miles walk with my best friend.  It was fun walking and talking and then stopping at Einstein's for our monthly breakfast of turkey sausage and cheddar with egg on an asiago bagel and iced green tea (needed something cold after the long walk) and hot vanilla hazelnut coffee (and something to keep me going!).  It was fun catching up and just spending time together, as well as getting some much needed walking in.

After getting home and getting cleaned up, we get a phone call from our son who advised his ex-wife had been taken to the hospital after an overdose of her medication.  I was scheduled to go to a ladies tea and was actually enroute to it when I got a call from my daughter who gave me more details.  I hadn't talked to my son and my husband tends to be a bit overprotective of me when something is already on the calendar.

Something we fight about constantly - I tell him 'family first' and he will still choose to not tell me everything so that I will do what was planned.

After I found out more details I turned around and went back home, telling my husband we were going to the hospital - not necessarily for our ex-daughter-in-law, but for our son, should he need someone with him.  Hubby cleaned up and off we went to the hospital.  She was unconscious and sedated as well as intubated.  I got an update yesterday that the tube had come out, she was conscious but very groggy - something to be expected.  The last text I got from my son was that CPS had stopped by to visit him regarding the kids.  He never updated me after that so I need to contact him today and find out what is going on.  I continue to pray for the situation and trust that God will do what needs to be done, in spite of the choices made.

Not knowing if our middle child was aware of what was going on, I texted my daughter in law - only to find out she was at another hospital with her father!  I guess she had posted it on facebook the night before, but because I don't check facebook much and usually not in the evenings, I wasn't aware of it.  This morning, because I hadn't gotten any updates from her or my son, I checked facebook only to become aware of her father's worsening condition and that it was bad enough that my granddaughter came up from Tucson and some of the family has come into town.

I continue to pray for my ex-daughter in law and for my daughter in law's father, her mother and herself and family.  It just seemed to all 'hit' this weekend and I feel helpless, not knowing what to do.  I know I can pray, so that is what I am doing.  I thought about cooking a real meal for the family, but then I read that my son had actually baked a turkey by himself.  I'm so proud of him for taking the initiative to put a meal together for the family.  I reckon he doesn't need my help!

The best thing I can do is pray; the only thing I know to do is pray.  I hope that if I can help in any way that they won't hesitate to call me and ask.  If I can, I will help, but I don't know what to do unless they contact me.  It's hard being an in-law!  Or out-law!

Regardlses of what is going on in my life, and in the lives of others, God is still God and He is still on His throne.  Regardless of how much turmoil, how much confusion, how much of anything is there, God is still in control of the situation and He calls the shots.  We may think we know how it is going to turn out, but I know that no matter what I think, it may not necessarily be what God's plans are.

And I know that His plans for each of us is better than what I can come up with.  Regardless of how or what I pray or ask for.

Jeremiah 29:11 - "For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and to give you hope."

He has plans for each of us, regardless of who we are or where we are in life.  I trust Him.  Even when He allows things that bring us pain, I trust Him and love Him.

It is in times like this a chorus from a song comes to mind....

Oh,  I'm running to your arms, I'm running to your arms, the richness of Your love, is more than enough.  I need your embrace O Lord, so I'm running to your arms.    Ok, I messed it up, but it is a lot like that.

Hope that your day is full of love, joy and blessings.  Trust Him, and in the toughest times, run into His arms to hold you, to comfort you, to love you.

Blessings!

Lord, Surprise me!

Interesting title, don't you think?  I read in my devotional this morning about someone who was praying and just said 'Lord, Surprise me!' and from then on, he began to notice more the things that God did to 'surprise him'.

Just like this morning I got a nice surprise of light traffic and no accidents on the way to work.  Yep - I couldn't believe it either.  Yesterday we had another semi turned over on the freeway and this one caught on fire, killing the driver.  And it was at my exit.  I had no way around it.  Well, I did, sort of.  I took a few side streets and finally jumped on another 'freeway' to get to my exit - and when I got off had about a 2 mile backup at the light where I had to turn to get on my road.  It took me about 20 minutes to get to the turn itself - and then I was at work within five minutes.  Overall, it took me about an hour to get to work yesterday, and not leaving early as I had the day before, I didn't get to work until about 7:50AM, too late to start a blog.  -

Anyway, back to the title.  I decided that I wanted to pray that too.  "Lord, Surprise me."  Sounds simple enough.  He has already surprised me by getting me to work really quick this morning - AND - someone had already made coffee!!  The past week or so (I usually drink tea once I get to work, but coffee has been my beverage of choice the past few days) I have made the first pot of coffee for the day.  It was already done and waiting for me when I went into the breakroom.  Nice.  Even better, it is tasting good.  Some people only use the one packet - it just is not enough strength.  I add at least 1 1/2 packets. :-)

Today is March 1.  I couldn't believe it when I started to write in my journal this morning I wrote 'February..' and I paused, thinking what day it should be.  Ok, yesterday was the 28th.... oh my!  It is March 1!  This year is flying by!  Being the first of the month isn't too bad; it's also a Friday which is jean day here at work.  Of course to wear jeans it costs us $2, but it is worth it.  Well, the $2 is donated to a charity each month so I don't mind at all helping charities out.  I wear my jeans and pay my $2.  Some times we have 'free jean days' and that is nice too.

What are some ways that you like to be surprised?  Some people will say they don't like surprises, but I sure do!  Even the little things bring me joy.  Things like getting a text message from a grandson last night that showed what he did with his birthday gifts we had gotten him.  We had let him choose things he wanted for his room - a lamp, decals, etc.  Since this is March already I guess we ought to get over there to see how it all looks; maybe this weekend if we can find time.  I have a full day lined up tomorrow already.

Surprises.  I know that God's surprises are better than anything.  I even was bold enough to ask Him to make me aware when He surprises me.  It could be nothing more than getting a phone call, or a text, or mail, from someone I didn't expect to hear from.  They may think they aren't doing anything special, but if I wasn't expecting it, then it's a surprise.

It would be a real nice surprise to be told I'm getting a raise.  It definitely is NOT expected.  Only God could orchestrate it.  Hmmmm.  No, I'm not due for any raise, so if I did get one, it WOULD be a surprise.

Surprises are fun to give too.  Stopping to do something special for someone.  Giving someone your undivided attention is sometimes a surprise.  Praising someone can be a grateful surprise. And don't patronize when you do it.  Write a thank you  note.  Or just write someone a note.  Cook dinner (if you don't normally cook).  Just a few ideas.

I can't wait to see what God is going to do in answer to my prayer.  And I prayed it not just for me, but for my spouse, my children, and my grandchildren, as well as relatives.  Lord, surprise them today.  Let something good happen that they may have hoping for and waiting for, or even something they weren't expecting.  Surprise them with something GOOD.

My day is starting out with the surprise of getting to work early AND a pot of coffee ready and waiting for me.  I can't wait to see what God is going to do next!  Not only today, but tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow.... cause I want His surprises all the time.

May your day be full of joy, laughter, good times, and lots of surprises!

Blessings!
