Coffee and a protein bar.....

That's what is for breakfast this morning!  And I'm talking STRONG coffee!  It has been a crazy 'short' week!  I should have worked Monday, even though it was a holiday.  I should have gotten on the computer and worked some.  But I didn't.  One of those should have would have could have things.

I'm finally "caught up" - if there is such a thing.  Oh, I still have work to get done, but it isn't as pressing as everything else has been.  It has been an extremely crazy week - and I had two meetings to go to yesterday.  The first one, to which I had not been invited, I got invited to at 8AM.  The meeting was to discuss our duties, among other things.  Another team member is being pulled from my team and put on the 'other side', doing Medicaid instead of Medicare.  Another person is being brought on.  That leaves me of the three member team that hasn't been taken off yet and replaced.

Does that mean I'm doing a good job and they want to keep me here?  Or does that mean I'm next?  I am not worried at all.  If they want to put anyone else on this position, have at it!  It is hard work, it is intensive, and it is crazy at times.  I have to meet deadlines, some within minutes of being out of compliance.  I have to make phone calls to members, which sometimes makes me uncomfortable.  I usually just pick up and the phone and 'just do it' to get it done.

This week I called the power of attorney, aka POA, to tell them the physical therapy requested for their spouse had been approved.  She tells me that they died on Monday.

I call another POA, who proceeds to tell me his wife has dementia and is in an assisted living place and he has to move because after 67 years of marriage he can't stay in their home alone anymore.  His daughter buys him all organic food and free range chicken and eggs.  His wife can remember things from 40 years ago but can't tell him what she had for breakfast.  He doesn't go see her every day because it is too painful.  He used to be a gymnast.  He and his wife worked out together at a gym for years.

So I get to hear the life stories sometimes.  Which is ok, and I listen, and be compassionate, but it takes time from getting my work done.  Oh well.  It's all in a day's work.

Today is the last day of May.  What does this mean for me?  It means EVERYTHING has to be completed today.  Which isn't too bad for me as I usually leave with nearly everything completed anyway.  But I try to help on the medicaid side too when I can.

On my way in to work this morning God was good and gave me the center lane wide open for a ways.  Well, until a blue car, for some unknown reason, decided to pull from the right lane in front of me.  I'm going 65 in the 55 mind you, as is every one else.  Just staying in the flow of traffic.  Hey - it's 6:05AM, you can do that.  Anyway, this blue car pulls in front of me...... and slows down to 55 mph.  Ok, I slow down, no biggie.  Cars are flying by us.  Then they drop to 50.  I'm thinking 'what is going on?  what do I need to learn from this situation? Is there something I should see?'    This continues at 50 MPH, with everyone else on both sides flying by us.  I'm about 2 car lengths behind him and I take one hand and did a 5 5 , meaning hey, it's 55MPH here!  After about 1/2 mile he pulls off into the right lane, and as I drive by him, he rolls down his window and gives me the bird!  Can you believe it?!!  And he gets off at that exit.  I laughed at him.  He probably thought it would make me angry, and I hope he felt better from doing it, but it just showed how low he is as a person, in my eyes.   It is what it is.

So here I am at work, ready to start a new day, and a busy one at that.  I'm already tired, and I got out at 5:45PM last night.  Tonight is a leadership meeting.... will see if I can make it.  Right now, not too sure.

Starting my day off with a protein bar and a strong cup of coffee.  Want to join me?

Blessings!

One more week!

Today is 'weigh-in Wednesday'.  Again.  I had to read the original notice to determine how much longer I had to be semi-good at eating.  (notice I didn't say exercise, that went by the way side a long time ago).  I weigh in today - and it appears that next Wednesday is the last weigh-in.  YEA!!

I have to confess that I haven't been faithful to any diet, nor have I consistently exercised during this time frame.  I've tried to watch what I have been eating.  But, sometimes, like when there is chips and green salsa or chips and white girl salsa, well, you just gotta give in and have some!  Oh, and let's not forget the potato chips and dip I got into on Monday as well.  Sigh.  I did leave the bun off the hamburger I ate - does that count?

It's still about an hour before I can go weigh in.  I got on my scale this morning at home without clothes and I was below 150 - but now with clothes on, who knows what it will be.  As a rule, on Wednesdays I try to wear my lightest clothes to weigh in.  Will see if I can come in below last week.  I hope so!

It will be fun to hear how my middle child does on his weigh in this morning at the gym.  He finally met his original goal last week.  But the holidays do take a toll on us all, so we shall see.  Hopefully we both can celebrate a loss again this week.

This is short today as I must start work.  We simply must get more help here at work.  I worked nearly 12 hours straight through yesterday - didn't take breaks and ate lunch at my desk.  Work is overwhelming.  Another coworker on my team worked 11 hours at work, then went home and got on the computer again, working until she had problems with the system.  She puts in close to 30 hrs overtime a week.  She is also gone this Friday through next Tuesday and I have no idea who they are going to get in her place as I do not know how to do the authorizations she does.  She is trying to get them caught up - but still, we have lots to do.

We have amazing employees who work very hard, and we have those that are only 8-5 and they are out of here.  Oh, and they still take their breaks and lunch hours.  Plus a lot of socializing.  They just don't care.  I know there are people out there who would work; I wish the company would remove the freeze and let us hire them!

Oh - on the person I mentioned yesterday who I expected to call in and take disability?  She showed up yesterday with her ankle bandaged and her arm in a bandage.  Now she limped a little, but if one has a sprained ankle, wouldn't it be very difficult to walk on it?  Especially if you weigh 350 pounds?  Of course with her arm bandaged up (she had one of those wrap things you can buy over the counter for sprained wrists) she can't do as much work.  So yesterday morning she sat at her desk and worked on flyers for something.  But she did show up.  And low and behold, here she is today!  Yes, it is early, but she also gets up and leaves early.

And with that, I have to get busy - too much work to do.  I don't mind occasional overtime to bring things up to date, but every night is tough.  Got home at 8PM last night.  I'm here between 6:30 and 7:00 every morning.  Does make for a long, long, day.

Hope yours is a good one!

Blessings!

And a short/long week starts!

It's Tuesday.  However, with yesterday being considered a holiday and most of us having the day off, today is our Monday. Judging from what I'm hearing from coworkers who did try to work this weekend, today is going to be a Monday AND a Tuesday combined!  I do have some work already in my folder to complete, which I will start on as soon as I finish this blog.

And to start our week off, I hear from one coworker that the person who gave me such grief and was removed from the team last week, called her yesterday and said she had fallen, had gone to the ER, had passed out, and is going to have to take time off work.  I don't doubt that she has fallen, for she is quite large, but the fact is, she was bitter about being removed from our team and put back on regular work.  Her pride was hurt.  IF she falls, and has to go on disability, they can't fire her for being lazy, etc; so she can take the time to do what she wants to do at home.  I probably shouldn't even think that, but find it interesting that she is willing to throw our entire department into chaos with taking time off work.  We are already short people and are on a hiring freeze.  Pride is a vicious thing, is it not?

But on a good note, we had a great weekend.  I did get online Saturday and Sunday to see if I had work that had to be completed before this morning (I did not).  I do have some today that definitely needs to get out.  One that should have been done yesterday, but I didn't get online last night.

We spent yesterday as a family at my daughter's house for a cookout.  Most watched a movie after lunch; I was content watching the little ones with my daughter and a son in the pool.  Tooooo cold for me.  My son had said he was bringing his speedos - and he did.  I'm grateful they weren't what WE called speedos.... these had covering!   It was so fun being with the grandchildren and loving on them.  We celebrated three of the grandchildrens' birthdays.  It is hard to believe they are getting older.

Coming home from the cookout we just kind of chilled for the evening.  We were still so full of chips and salsa, hamburgers and all, we didn't even eat dinner!  Just didn't want any.  And I'm to way in tomorrow morning.  It has made me a little anxious, because I knew I had over-indulged yesterday, so I got on the scale this morning.  Whew.  Just .2 about where I was last Wednesday.  But, I still have today to go and a weigh-in tomorrow morning.  I've got to really watch it today.  One more week to go, I think.  Two at most.  This next week I have to really kick it into gear if I want to walk away with any prize.  I know I'm still a winner because I have lost weight.  But, it will be nice to be financially rewarded for doing so.  I'm sure the others are thinking the same thing; I'm hoping yesterday some over-indulged just like I did.  I'm hoping they 'forgot' about the contest and ate to their heart's content.  We shall see tomorrow.

I was praying about it as I came in to work this morning.  I know my eating is of my own doing; but I was asking for favor that I would eat only those things that would sustain me, and not add to my weight.  Tonight we are having salad with chicken tenders grilled.  That shouldn't be too bad.  It's just I end up eating at 8PM most nights night due to work and getting home.  Oh well, I do what I can do.

And right now I need to get busy working!  Hope you are ready for a new week!

Blessings!

God can be so funny at times!

Reading in my quiet time this morning gave me cause to think about some things.  I'm always looking for something to share that is of value, rather than my rantings, ravings, and whining.  Seriously.  I've gotten off track from what I wanted this blog for, and instead, since I figure my children are about the only ones who read this, I've taken to sharing my life with them.  After all, we all are busy with life and don't know what is going on with each other.  I guess that thought hit home the other day when my middle child commented that reading my blog helped him to know what was going on in my life.  That made me feel sorta good.... I knew he read it on a fairly regular basis, as I do his.  It's good to read when good things happen - like his blog from yesterday - and rejoice with him.

Yeah I did.  We sometimes wonder about our children and what makes them happy.  We wonder why they don't do the things we think they should do.  We throw our hands up in the air when they don't behave as we think they should - or when they annoy us - or when they disagree with us - or when they are doing their own thing.  But when you read - or hear about - someone doing something good for one of your children (or grandchildren) and it makes them so happy, you rejoice.

If you think about it, God has a sense of humor as well.  We all like to play tricks on each other and do things to startle or make someone laugh.  Today we are gathering at my daughter's house for a family birthday/Memorial Day potluck celebration.  They have a pool.  I can guarantee you there will be people trying to push other people into the pool.  I don't think it is warm enough for me yet.  It surely can not be 90 degrees in the pool yet.  That's why I don't get in until about July.... and out by August.

Oh - back to God's sense of humor.  Ok, think about this.  Can you just imagine Moses' face when God started speaking to him out of the burning bush?  Moses probably was befuddled (would that be the correct word?) at this sight before him.  But can you not imagine God chuckling because he startled Moses?

What about when Jesus had sent the disciples on ahead across the lake?  There was a bad storm that night.  Jesus stayed on the shore.  All of a sudden, in the darkest part of the night (the fourth watch, which is 3AM-6AM), here comes Jesus walking across the water!  Scared the living daylights out of the disciples! They thought He was a ghost!  Jesus had to tell them it was He.  Peter wanted to walk out to meet Him.  Jesus didn't have to let Peter fall into the water.  Jesus could have held out His hand and just be a few feet from Peter so that Peter would keep his eyes on Him.  But Jesus let Peter fall into the water.  And then can you not picture Jesus laughing at the sight of Peter falling into the water?  (True, Peter's faith didn't allow him to keep his eyes on Jesus, but on troubles of the storm about him).  Peter probably wasn't laughing when he fell, but I wonder if he burst our laughing when Jesus did.

Jesus had a playful personality, don't you think?   Just like you and me.  We like to make people laugh, sometimes at our expense, sometimes at theirs.

I love to share stories in which I do stupid things.  Why?  Because they are funny!   Like wearing two different shoes to work.  Or two different color socks. (ok, the socks being different seems to be fashionable now - did I start a new fashion trend?)  Or baking something that is usually really good and forgetting to put a key ingredient in it.  Or baking a turkey and forgetting to take out the 'innards'.  Or thinking about something so intently you walk into a pole.  Or getting to the cash register at the store and realizing you left  your wallet at home.  We've all done some of these, I'm sure.  And we usually tell about it, cause it is funny.

Today - is Memorial Day and the men and women who serve our glorious country in various locations and many different ways, deserve not our laughter, but our respect and appreciation for what they give.  Many are away from families for months at a time.  Those that are home can rejoice, for they have seen, and know, of more than we will ever imagine.  We celebrate those today that are home with families this day, and those who are still away from their loved ones, serving our country.

I often wonder what happen to the respect and honor given the Flag of the United States of America.  They screw up our beloved songs of country and flag.  Because they can not respect themselves, they tear down what other people love and respect.  I think I tear up every time I sing The Star Spangled Banner.  I know, I tear up at most things.  I am so proud to be an American.  I am proud to live in this country.  Our freedom and our privileges keep get taken away from us, from what our forefathers had prayed for us.  But this is our land, it is our country, and we should do our best to bestow the blessings requested by our forefathers upon our children and grandchildren.  We need to fall on our faces before our God and ask for His mercies to fall upon us, and to help us be strong and courageous in the midst of this battle of life.  Only He can save us.  Our forefathers left England because the King of England would not let them worship God.  They came here to give us religious freedom.  To pray blessings upon this new country and dedication to our God who set us free.

But, now I have allowed my thoughts to ramble so will stop for today.  Stop to say 'thank you' to a veteran today.  I remember when I was growing up the American Legion would sell artificial posies in remembrance of our men and women in uniform.  Wow, hadn't thought of that in years.  And yes, it does bring a smile to my face.

God in action.  Watch how He will allow things to transpire to make you smile today.  It may be your favorite meal.  It may be a child saying something funny and unique.  It may be just because it is a good day to be alive and with family.

God is probably laughing at my crazy blog too.  I was reminded today as I read that sometimes our putting off writing a book is not for lack of information, or lack of time, it is because of our insecurities in opening up our thoughts and lives to put it on paper.  I need to quit procrastinating (as someone else I know is... just saying) and just start.  One page at a time.

Have an exciting, funny, and fun-filled day!

Blessings!

Sometimes mirrors are just depressing!

I went out shopping today.  First of all, I don't care to shop.  Why?  Because I hate trying on clothes; I'm not a good matcher of clothes; I have never had a sense of style or what looks ok to wear.  It's like my interior decorating here at  home.  I throw it on the wall; if it sticks, it stays.  If it falls off, I put someplace else.

Only with clothes, I either get the wrong style for me, the wrong size, the wrong color.  Did I mention how much I hate to shop; especially for clothes?

I decided I needed a new swimming suit.  The one I have is probably 5-8 years old.  I can't remember. It's been a l-o-n-g while since I bought it.  Actually, I had bought another one since this one, and gave it away a year or two ago.  So, I decided to go shopping and get a new one.

Why do I torture myself like this?  Hubby asked if I was going to get a two piece or a one piece.  I'm 63 years old, what would you think?!  So then I thought to myself, why not get both?  But, no, not ready for that just yet - the two piece, that is.

So I decided to cheap up and went to KMart.  Did I say cheap?  Gads!  What happened to when you could buy the entire swimsuit for less than $15?  That has changed!  The last swimsuit I bought was perhaps $19.  And it was a one piece.  See how long it's been?!

I selected about 4 different swimsuits.  All two piece, but the long top that covers over the bottom part of the suit.  Got to hide this fat belly someway.  Anyway, I decided I would go try these on.

Now, on my behalf, I have lost nearly 15 pounds the past couple months and I wanted to think that I would look halfway decent.... forget that thought.  I went into the fitting room to try them on.  I removed what I needed to in order to try these on.  Talk about saggy skin!  OH MY GOODNESS!!  Talk about depressing!  It was U-G-L-Y!!

Obviously I do not look in the full length mirror until this body is fully clad.  There is a reason for this.  I was reminded of that reason when I put the swim suit on and observed how it looked.  Then reached for another one.  And another one.  Then made a decision, reluctantly.  I chose one.  Who knows if I will even put it on tomorrow, but at least I have it should I decide to.  Maybe.  I may forget to take it.

I'm so glad that God doesn't look at the outside of our bodies and think to Himself, "Gads, that body has gone way down hill!  She/he didn't take care of their body so I think I will zap them.  Maybe if I trip them up they will see how bad they look; perhaps she/he just needs someone to come along side them and mentor them in how to dress attractively."

I'm so glad God looks at the heart and accepts me just the way I am.  Fat and all.  Squishy, flappy, saggy skin and all.

I'm so glad as a family we accept each other as we are.  None of us are perfect; none of us are good enough.  We're family, regardless of what trials we go through.  We're family, regardless of what issues loom before - or behind - us.  We're family regardless of mistakes we've made.  We're family whether we  have money or not.  We're family whether our lifestyle is unlike anyone elses.  We're family, because God put us in life together.

I remember when a grandson was young and we were sitting out beside their pool, he came up behind me and started pushing his little finger into the fatty area about my swimsuit, just behind my arm. He stood there and did it for a minute or so, and I finally asked him what was he doing. His response? "Playing with your fat".

So you see, I've had my fat for awhile.  It just won't go away.  I need not judge myself by others standards; nor should I  judge others by theirs.   And neither should anyone else.

BUT, with that being said, I AM THE MOTHER so I'm allowed to say whatever I choose to.  Suck it up, kids!

We all have our faults; we all have our positive traits.  I choose to focus on the positive....even though the swimsuit issue is exempt from being positive.

Can I wear sweats in the pool without being obvious?  Just wondering.

Take some time to treasure the person you are.  God created you, yes, but you made yourself the way you are.  You are made up of your past - whether you choose to grow from it or let it continue to control you - and you are made of your future.  Where do you plan to go from here?

Be who you are..... beloved child of mine.  And if you have some fat, squishy, areas on your body, you know you can blame them on....... overeating - or eating what you shouldn't!  Just like me. :-)

I'm just glad I'm done with shopping for a swimsuit.  I may have to have a piece of chocolate to make myself feel better.

Love you all....

Blessings!

Changes Changes Changes!

What in the world is going on?  Yesterday I wanted to write a short post in here and Google would not let me.  It wouldn't let me find me.  Usually I can just type a couple words, ie., revmom and it will come up.  Yesterday I even typed in the entire 'address' - revmommusings.blogspot.com and it STILL would not come up.  A lot of other 'Reverend Mother' stuff came up but not mine.  So I gave up due to time limitations to continue looking after ten pages or so.  Crazy yesterday.

Then I get home last night and hubby tells me our computers were acting up.  OUR computers?  Mine was fine the night before.  He shared he couldn't get on the internet yesterday and was panicking because that is how he pays our bills.  Our middle child was over for awhile yesterday trying to figure out what was going  on, but also could not figure it out.  They even tried my computer and it wouldn't work. I think he figured something out to try later and was going to come over today to look at it.

However, my curiosity got the best of me and I tried to get on my computer last night - and did.  I had no problems whatsoever.  Well, I did try Google Chrome and it wouldn't come up; my guess is that Google was having problems and that messed a lot of things up.  Regardless, I was able to get on the computer so my stuff is fine.  Wonder what changes Google is making.

Here at work we have even more changes.  Cracking down on missed deadlines on getting authorizations completed and letters mailed.  Rightly so.  They removed the one coworker that frustrated me so and replaced her with another coworker who I know is a hard worker.  It will be a learning curve for a few days, but she will catch on quickly and we will speed through these things.  I'm glad she is on our team.  I have confidence it will work out well.  Unfortunately, the "trainer" sat with her yesterday to show her how to do the letters - and it was wrong.  My coworker had asked me to take a look at it and I found several things wrong on the letter for which we could be 'dinged' on.  I re-created the letter and printed it so that she could see how the letter should be.  Sometimes I wonder about our trainer - but training is not her specialty.  You know my difficulty when I first was trying to learn.  She shows you once and never comes back to see how you are doing.  And what she shows may be only partly right.  She misses key components of the training.  But still, she knows more about it than I do.  And she tells me that.  And that she has been here longer than I have.  Yeah.... that's anther story.

So there have been changes here at work - and we have another temp employee starting on Monday so yet another change.  So much work to get completed and they won't let us hire anyone who would really care about keeping the job and doing a good job.  Temps don't care that much - if they don't like it, they just don't come back.  Since November when I started, we have gone through three temps that were here more than a couple weeks, one that came one day and never came back, two that never showed up.  We currently have one temp that has been here about a month and another here about two weeks.  Monday another comes.  One would think hiring full time would be much better, but I guess cost-effectively hiring temp employees makes since with the insurance issues, etc.

Well, I guess this will have to be short as this is potluck Friday and need to help set up.  I made BBQ pork for sandwiches for today.  It just sounded good.  Not sure what everyone else is bringing.  Always plenty though.

Hope that you have a good day - it's going to be another busy one for me!

Blessings!

It's Weigh-in Wednesday!!

Yes, it is getting to that time again this week - weigh in!  I think I have been fairly 'good' for the past week... well, except for yesterday.  But I'd do it all over again.  Even though it is the day before weigh in.  I went to the funeral of a very dear friend.  Yes, I drove from work to the church for the funeral, then afterwards drove all the way back to work.  He was worth it.

Anyway - I am off track.  After the funeral they had a small meal.  It wasn't anything big, but it was, as usual for something prepared by the ladies of our church, delicious.  I skipped the roll and the potatoes.  Not a big deal.  I picked up one small cookie as my dessert, still debating if I ought to eat it.  But everyone ought to have a dessert after a meal, correct?  Especially if it is offered.  Well, we sat down next to the spouse of one of the 'cooks'.  He had a big piece of coconut cream pie.  My favorite.  My very favorite.  Oh Yum.  He said his wife had made it from scratch.  Double Yum.  I had to have one.  And I did.  Yes, I did.  I asked for piece of the home made from scratch coconut cream pie.  It was sooooo smooth that it was like eating air.  It just dissolved in my mouth.  Every.Little.Bite.  And I loved it.  I told my friend that my birthday was in August and he could tell his wife I would happily take a home made coconut cream pie for my birthday.  Oh, the cookie?  I gave it to hubby.  I don't know if he had other dessert or not for I left as soon as I inhaled my pie.  I couldn't justify eating the cookie after the pie.  It was sooo good.

That is the way challenges in our life are at times, don't you think?  The temptation looks sooooo good, and when we indulge in it, we either feel remorse for giving in, or satisfaction that it was so good.  That is where we have to step back and look at what we did.

Could I have gotten by without the pie and been happy?  Absolutely.  In fact, if my friend had not tempted me, I would have been satisfied with the little cookie.  But it was there, and he brought it to my attention.  I still could have resisted, and may have - had I thought about weigh in this morning.  But how bad could one piece of coconut cream pie be?  Well, I asked Suri what the calorie content was in one slice of coconut cream pie, home made.  She advised that it could range from 387 calories to over 400.  Since I had indulged and enjoyed every inhaled bite, I thought perhaps I should consider what dinner would consist of.  I counted my calories.  It wasn't bad at all.  I've actually kept my calories pretty consistent at 1000-1200 so wasn't too worried.  We had grilled tilapia fish and green beans for dinner.  Not much, but satisfying.

Later in the evening I got on the scale, just to see how it was going to look this morning.  Ohhhh I did not like that figure!  I became concerned, but tried to reassure myself it was evening, and I had eaten during the day, of course I hadn't gotten it all digested yet.  It is what it is.

This morning I got on the scale at home.  Several times.  I wanted to see if I put my weight on my heels versus flat footed or on the balls of my feet, would any of that make a different.  It did.  It would range .1 or .2 higher or lower and never every time.  I gave up trying to figure it out.  Doesn't matter, the scales here at work are different anyway.  I feel I have lost at least 1 pound, judging from my home scale.  We shall see what the scale here at work will show soon.

I always go through my closet on weigh in day to see what is the lightest clothes I can wear.  It's getting to where I nearly wear the same clothes every Wednesday.  Today I did wear something different, and I'm hoping I chose correctly.  Oh well, I can blame any extra on the clothes, correct?  I have to laugh at some people; they will use the excuse they wore a heavy skirt or slacks.  Then they say, well, next week it will be better cause I will wear something lighter.  Ok.... and didn't you say that last week?  One girl I work with says she doesn't like me.  She has not lost anything since we started.... like that is my fault.  But she did start at the gym a couple weeks ago so surely she will start losing weight soon.  Oh, she really does like me, it's just the weight challenge thing.  I keep losing.  She hasn't.

It really isn't the clothes we wear, we all know that, although we love to use it as our excuse for weight gain, or no weight loss.  It's just baggage.  Some times we may wonder why we didn't lose - like the week I was on vacation.  I'm still mystified at that.  I gained 2.6 that week (but lost over 3 the following week) and I did watch what I ate and I walked 2 miles, 15 miles, and another 5 miles in that time frame.  I have no idea what caused the weight gain.  Could it be I flew in Tuesday night and weighed in Wednesday morning?  Could it have something to do with jet lag?  Regardless, I am past that.

Baggage.  We all have it.  And it isn't just clothes on weigh-in day. Some of us have more than others.  We have baggage from our childhood, we have baggage from our marriages, we have baggage from our jobs.  Everything affects us in one way or another.  The key is how do we deal with it.  Do we allow that baggage to stay on our back all our lives - or do we chose to rise above it and become a better person because of it?  Do we wallow in self pity that this or that happened to us, or do we say to ourselves, 'because this happened, I will choose to .....' .  Trust me, wallowing in self pity only alienates people and makes you miserable.  I KNOW people who still wallow in the past and they are not fun to be around.  Yeah, I have lots of baggage from my childhood, from marriages, from work, from life itself.  I choose to become a better person.  I choose to stand tall and rise above my adversities and say I am not going to allow my past to control who I am.  I am not going to allow my baggage to weigh me down and control me any more.  And I move on.  Hopefully, you do too.

My thoughts are rambling and I'm thinking of other things to share this morning but I need to get off the blog.  I need to make a note to share these thoughts...sometime down the road.

Soooo proud of my middle child - he just met a weight loss goal!  Way to go, son!

Hope you have a baggage-free weight-less day!

Blessings!

When do you say 'ENOUGH'?

My issues with my coworker have been pretty much resolved.  I was able to talk with my director, and she agreed that what I was requesting was 'do-able'.  And it happened a few hours later.  I was feeling like I was totally on a breaking point.   I noticed this person only did five - yes, five - letters yesterday.  But, that is not my problem.

Enough.  I had had enough.

Today is Tuesday and a very dear friend's funeral is today.  I requested time off last week to drive to the funeral and back to work and make up my time, to both my supervisor and director.  Neither have bothered to respond.  We had a staff meeting yesterday morning (which I forgot, but since I am here at 7AM anyway, was on time.  A few didn't remember and wasn't there, so it is a good thing I come in early.  During the meeting it was announced that there is an internal audit today - and unfortunately, it is on our three person 'team'.  Which means, I'm guessing, that I can not leave for 3-4 hours and go to the funeral.

When is rudeness in not responding to emails for time off acceptable?  Isn't it enough I work from 7:30AM - 6:30PM straight through most days?  I don't take a break except to go to the bathroom.  I eat lunch at my desk.  When is what I give 'enough'?

I tell myself that it is because this new team is just getting familiar with all we have to do.  Three people is truly not enough to handle this volume.  Yet, we have a hiring freeze on and no more can be hired.  The other two members of the team do not work overtime.  Well, the nurse generally works through her lunch hour, also eating at her desk, but is here at 8AM and goes home at 5PM.  But then, she isn't paid for overtime either.  The other coworker comes in at 7:30AM and leaves at 4:30AM and DOES take breaks (several of them) and lunch hour (sometimes extended).  At least I get paid overtime, but I don't work it for the money, although it is very helpful right now; I work the extra hours because I can't afford to get behind in my work as when we get a real audit, we get sanctioned as much as $10,000 on each mistake made.  I don't want those mistakes to be mine.  We are on very tight time frames to get the authorization in the system, the letter mailed, and the phone call to the member made.  Unfortunately, I can only do one at a time, and most times I can not get ahold of the member - or their POA, if we can even find the paperwork in the system.  Most times we can not.

This is just a suggestion to you.... You, and your spouse, need to have a medical power of attorney paper completed and notarized and sent to your insurance company, given to your doctor, and given to the hospital you may go to.   This enables the insurance company to talk with your spouse, or with you should it be your spouse, should there be any questions about the insurance.  Seriously, I didn't realize what an issue this is.  We are having to go through numerous folders to find POA information for these people who are so sick they can not respond, and if we can not find a POA, we have to try and discuss issues with the member, who usually does not understand.  And if there IS a POA, they get uptight and angry if we say what has been requested is denied because it won't do any good.    It's a catch 22 I guess, but we spend numerous minutes looking for each record as it comes up.

Hubby and I have a trust account in which we have all that information signed and notarized.  A copy of our Living Will is in the doctor's hands as well as Phoenix Baptist Hospital, which is the hospital we'd probably request since it is where he has privileges.  Our medical power of attorney is also in our file, I think.  You never know when this information is needed.  I know ours is kept at the bank in the safety deposit box so that when I need to get it - or hubby does - we know where to go.  Along with our wills.  In fact, you simply MUST have a will.  Even if you write it out and notarize it.

If you don't have a signed will and you die, the state will determine everything about what you own, support for your children, everything.  Your spouse will have to give receipts to the state to be reimbursed for their care.  Read up on it, if you don't believe me.  It isn't just you die and life goes on.  Without a will designating who will be in control of your finances, your home, your benefits - well, the state thinks they can do a better job of it than your spouse - or anyone else designated - can.  Please do not delay in getting this completed.  I'll even put it in our safety deposit box, or a copy of it, so that you will know where a copy is.   Do you want the state to raise your children and be involved in their welfare?  Do you want everything you have worked for taken away from you because you didn't take the time to complete a will?  It isn't that hard.  Just do it.

Enough.  I guess you have had 'enough' of my suggestions this morning so I'm going to shut up and get out of here and get to work.  It's time.  I wish I could say it is 'enough' and leave.  I still hope I have a rich aunt or uncle out there somewhere and I'm their favorite.  It would be nice to quit work and do fun things.  I had a year of that - and I guess I got spoiled.  Although I look back on that year and realize I wasted a lot of time.  I could have exercised a lot more.  I could have cleaned my house.  I could have written a book, or at least gotten started, I could have....  but I didn't.

And it's time to say enough.  Quit procrastinating.  Quit putting things off.  Do it. Now.
Except I still have to work.  For now.

Have a great day - don't put things off, choose today to accomplish one thing.  Make it a good one.

Blessings!

What Day Is This?

I could not believe it.  This morning as I prepared to get ready for work, I could not remember what day it was.  I felt my days were running together and becoming one.  I finally figured out it was Tuesday, I thought.  But I ended up asking just to be sure.

I don't know why I was so confused about the day - perhaps it is because - other than the wonderful week of vacation - all I do is work.  Well, it seems like it.  Been working some overtime, so when I get home I only have a couple hours before needing to head to bed.   Other than Thursday nights when we have our Bible study, and church on Sundays, I don't have much of a life anymore.  But then, eventually all this overtime will cease and perhaps I can get on a better schedule.

So today is Tuesday.  I have so much to get done, and our 'team' is short one person.  At this moment, I'm not sure who is going to do her work; I don't know how and she didn't bother to give me any instructions.  She even left early yesterday.  This person has actually been the cause of much anguish for me lately.  Let me rephrase that.  I have 'allowed' this person to cause me much anguish.  You know the saying, "the squeaky wheel gets the attention'?  Well, I don't need to say more.  I have had to do a lot of praying about this situation; it is so wrong, but there is nothing I can do about it, and I need to focus on keeping my attitude - and mouth - and actions - in check.

I'm getting back into the swing of work and all its little details, I think.  I was so frustrated last week over this issue, and all the flip flops the trainer was doing, I was ready to look for another job.  Seriously.  So disorganized - and I'm not a very well organized person!  I want to do my job well; but quit changing details on how to do it every ten minutes!

Let's think of something much more exciting to think about about.  Oh - I know!  I put on a skirt this morning that the last time I wore it, it was snug and 'short' (because it was so snug).  This morning I put it on - and it is down to my knees and even loose around the waist!  That made my day!  Hubby commented on why I was wearing a skirt again today.  I will probably be doing so as my pants I have worn for the past 2-3 years are all getting baggy!  YEA for ME!!   I had gained 2.6 pounds from vacation, and I have been trying to be really good so that I can lose it - and more - when I weigh in this week.  I actually weigh in tomorrow morning.  That was also what I was trying to figure out this morning, to determine what I will wear - my lightest clothes, of course!  According to MY scales at home, I have been successful; but the real test is the scales here at work tomorrow morning.  Wouldn't it be cool if I lost it and more?!  I think so.

We are having beautiful warm weather here in Phoenix; good thing I came home from Indiana - they have had MORE rain, and I see thunderstorms are in their forecast for the rest of the week.  No wonder I gained weight!  Ok - It's an excuse.  We walked the mini and God was gracious to answer our prayers and no rain came down until we finished and were ready to get into the car.  Then it rained on Sunday.  And Monday, I think.  My bro and I were able to walk 5 miles on Tuesday before I packed up and left to come home.

I'm thinking that when I get home tonight, before dinner, perhaps hubby will go with me and walk Marley for a couple miles.  I enjoy walking and would like to keep at it.  I did get on the treadmill for about 15 minutes last night - spent some time walking and some running.  I'm trying to learn how to run long distances.  Not real long, but maybe a 5K.  After all, if my daughter-in-law can run it on a sprained ankle, surely I can!

I need to already sign off here and get to work - still have lots to get done today.  At least I, on most days, are able to jot a short blog.  I understand hubby has a new blog; I don't know it's name, but will have to check it out.  Might be interesting to hear HIS thoughts!  Mine have gotten boring lately, I'm sure.

Hope you have a good day, and a special blessing is given to you!

Blessings!

Mother's Day 2013

I got to celebrate Mother's Day yesterday with my daughter.  She took me out to visit dear friends whom we all call 'Aunt Mae' and 'Aunt Sue' and took them their yearly roses.  After our visit with them, we headed off to Paradise Bakery where we got our salad and soup for lunch.  We had a nice time just being together and getting to chat without a lot of interruptions.  Oh - she also brought me a potted plant to put in the yard; still trying to figure out where.  I thought I had a place, but after it being outside one hour, and the sun hit it, and it went 'flat'.  So I watered it more and moved to a shady area with the hopes it will be the right spot for it.  These flowers are sensitive to the sun and since our house faces north/south, there isn't many places it can be planted.  They are beautiful flowers though and I will enjoy them as long as I can.  It was a good day.

Today was another good day.  I received texts from all my children and a phone call from a grandson, plus a text.  Stevie always goes out of his way to make me feel special.  I'm sure he made his mother feel special too.

In my 'quiet time' this morning I prayed for all my children and even prayed that my boys would come to church.  I remembered the middle child usually has/had baseball games Sunday mornings, and not knowing if they were still going on, assumed that is where he would be.  I was wrong.  I am so proud of him.  As I was greeting this morning, I see my beautiful daughter-in-law's mother walking across the lobby to the sanctuary.  I ran to her to give her a hug, and she told me that my son had told her if she wanted to go to church, he would go to sit with her as his wife had to teach the children today.  I told her that I had prayed this morning that he would come, never expecting him to.  Her response to me?  "Mom, where is your faith?"  It was so good to see him this morning, it made my mother's day too.  Loved seeing his son's new glasses - what a handsome young man he is!

My youngest son would have been at church if he hadn't loaned his transportation away.  Sigh. That child.  He gives and gives, and people walk all over him.  And he knows it, but he does it anyway.  It makes me sad for I would love to see him once in awhile, but he is too busy with new friends and his 'new life' and doesn't have much time for family.  I still pray (and yes, I know that he will read this eventually) that he will take this time as a 'do over' and turn his life around.  He has the ability to straighten his life out and be a model for his sons and daughter.  He isn't to be their 'best bud', he is their father and he needs to act like one, loving them, caring for them, providing for them and I mean with more than money or games.  Ok - off my soap box.  Even if it is Mother's Day.... my heart grieves for him because I see him going downhill versus making the most of this time.  So - if that is the way he wants it, it just makes me turn the prayers up for him. :-)  And that isn't always a bad thing.

Our service at church was ok; not our pastor but one he thought would be able to give us a good message.  My personal opinion is that she may be a great women's retreat leader, but not speaking in a church setting.  It was ok until the end.... I was very uncomfortable, although I understood what she was doing.  Unfortunately, she stirred up a lot of memories for a lot of people; the area I was in, the area in front of us, were all in tears.  I know she meant well, but even though my mother died in 2004, I still miss her, especially on Mother's Day.  The couple in front of me not only had said good bye to his mother this past year, but also to their daughter just a few months ago.  They were sobbing.  I'm not sure what was going on with the three ladies next to me, but there were a lot of tears falling.  I'm not comfortable with what she did, meaning well, in recognizing them with a piece of chocolate.  It kind of brought me down, and this isn't the day for that.  It may have been fine for some, but for me, I didn't care for it.

Hubby took me out to lunch wherever I wanted to go - and I chose Chino Bandito.  I love their veggie quesadillas and haven't had one in months.  I finally got that taste bud satisfied.  This is the first time I have been on my personal computer in about 3 weeks; Although I can see my emails on my phone, they don't delete off my computer account so I know I have a lot to work on today.  Oh well.  I need to do some of it anyway.

Hope that you are thinking of your mom today - and your grandma - and your great-grandma - with love today.  I know I miss mine a lot.  I did go to the cemetery in Indiana to visit my mom before I left.  She knows how much I love and miss her.  She wasn't a perfect mom, she made a lot of mistakes.  We had some tough times.  But she is still my mom, and I love her, and I miss her.

Happy Mother's Day in heaven, mom.  I love and miss you.

Blessings!

Cup of Coffee in Hand and ready to go....

Yep - with it being Friday traffic was light coming in this morning.  Which allowed me to get here about 5 minutes early, I think.  Actually, I have been able to make a pot of coffee, make my own coffee, get my water glass filled and here I am back at my desk already.   I am going to write this and then get busy for the day.

Part of me is glad to be back at work.  I do enjoy my job and what I do.  I like the people around me and they are nice to work with.  I'm still trying to understand what jobs some of them have.  I get confused when I see people on personal calls all the time, doing their homework online, doing projects for their church online, printing it, and making phone calls - and then complain they don't have time to get their work done.  That part drives me crazy so I spent some time this morning already chatting with a coworker asking what some people specifically do.  Especially since their jobs affect mine.  If they don't get their work completed in time, it affects me for it cuts my respond time down.

For example, yesterday I had all of 5 minutes to go into a member's file, print the letter, call the member and get the letter in the mail.  That isn't fair to me and it prevents me from keeping my flow going on my work.  I don't know when these are due unless they tell me; so I have to quit what I'm doing and do that one specifically.  It can be frustrating at times.

Our numbers to complete are way up; I'm wondering if we will have mandatory overtime tomorrow as it was less than that when we had mandatory overtime before. I keep waiting to hear.  I do have plans for tomorrow, but will come in to work if I need to.  It isn't MY work that is behind (since they moved me into a specialized area of work), it is the others.  And the two temps they hired just before I left, well, neither were here when I returned.  I understand another temp is to start on Monday and we start the training all over again.  I don't understand why they leave, unless they find a permanent job.  The company is a good place to work and the people are all nice in the department.  I just don't know.

And I need to get busy.  It's 7:13 and I need to work on the project outside of my job.  Have to keep my working hours focused on my own work, but for overtime, I can work on other things.  I try to help where I can.  The overtime helps as well.

Hubby has asked me out to dinner tonight.  It will be nice to sit down and have dinner.  We really need to go to the grocery; I didn't go before I left for vacation and he didn't go while I was gone.  The refrigerator is practically empty!  Will have to go sometime this weekend.

I will be volunteering at Market on the Move again tomorrow morning at church.  My daughter has asked to take me shopping or 'out' for a few hours tomorrow to 'celebrate' Mother's Day, which is Sunday.  I need to get roses for my two 'aunts' and get out to them.  Been giving them roses for the past 30 years for Mother's Day.  They enjoy them.  Maybe we can do it tomorrow.

Hope that you have fun plans for the weekend.  It's going to be a busy and fun one.

Blessings!

Not sure if I'm ready for this!

This will be a short post for I have many, many, emails here at work to go through.  It looks like they have 'changed' my entire job process in the week I have been gone.  With all the emails going back and forth among people, I am having to print the majority so that I can sort out what has changed and what do I need to do in order to get things completed correctly.  Sigh.  And there are a lot of them.

Today already isn't starting off too well; I left my computer glasses at home.  At least I think I did, as I can not find them here at my desk.  My eyes will be tired before the day is out, sure.  Especially with all this 'stuff' I have to read and figure out before I start work!

Well, I completed the 13.1 One American 500 Festival Mini Marathon along with my little sissy.  She says she will never do it again; but I am already planning to sign up for next year.  Even hubby said last night that he had been thinking about it and has made the decision to train and do it with me next year.  I really felt good while walking the Mini - yes, by the end I was tired, but not overly so.  And nothing like I was the year before!  Perhaps it is because I knew what to expect this year.  I enjoyed it, and had hoped to beat my time, but didn't.  There is always next year though.

My brother and I walked another 5+ miles yesterday morning before lunch, then he took me to the airport.

Thursday.....  yes, I didn't get to finish this yesterday.  A coworker who had covered for me while I was gone came in early - and proceeded to tell me how much she missed me!  Only because she had to work my stuff, I'm sure!  It was an extremely busy day yesterday.  I had to wear my regular glasses and by the time I left at 6:45PM, my eyes were burning.  I did sleep good last night, and although my eyes are already telling me they are tired (I did find my computer glasses at home and brought them back to the office), I know it will be another busy day today.

Those that can, did.  In other words, I think to cover their own jobs, they choose to create more forms.  I kid you not.  I have been told NOT to use the logs they had me using before I left (that they had already changed), but they have created OTHER logs and advised that I was to use them instead.  Sigh.  One I did complete; the other I totally forgot about.  Not sure how that is going to go over.... will try to re-create what I did that affects that long - but timing myself on phone calls, and how long it takes for me to print a letter, address an envelope, etc. - who really cares?!  They are trying to justify hiring another temp to make the phone calls and do the letter printing.  Yes, it would free me up some, but it would also take away from this job.  I don't think this person knows what she is doing.

AND, since I know someone further up the ladder, I think I will address the issue and give MY viewpoint.  They may not act on it, but I know that my suggestions and viewpoints are respected because they make sense.  I don't whine and act out because I don't get my way.  I state what the issue is as I see it, and how I feel it could be made better.  Then, they take my suggestion and enhance it to the big picture.  See, it's not all about me. :-)

I'm glad to be home and back on my regular diet.  I think I ate only one "home cooked" meal while on vacation.  I did buy my Greek yogurt and berries and fixed one shake while at my sisters', and I did eat yogurt and berries one morning for breakfast while there.  But other than that, we were eating things we probably shouldn't be eating!  Mexican food, chips and salsa.  Actually, I think that was the only time I could say I was 'really bad', for I do love the salt on the chips!  But, when I got on the scales to weigh in here at work, I had gained 2.6 pounds.  I was bummed!  So, I figure I need to double that for this week.  Lose the 2.6 pounds I gained, and lose another 2.6 to make up for it.  Sigh.  If only it was that simple.  But, I am back to my regular eating routine so hopefully that will make a difference on weigh in next Wednesday.

As much as I would like to continue chatting this morning, I must get off and get to work.  I'm doing extra in the early hours so that I can help others keep caught up.  Overtime is nice right now; but I refuse to work at home.  I tell them that is how I keep my job and my life separate.  When I leave work, I'm done.

Tonight is our small group study and I'm starting the 'Not a Fan' video series with them by Kyle Idleman.  It's an awesome study and I get to lead it.  I've missed facilitating classes; just haven't done it for awhile.  Need to get myself together and do it again.  I learn so much when I do.

Hope that you have a great day!  It's good to be home.

Blessings!

Is it going to happen?

I am up early, Phoenix time, and to me - late for Indianapolis time.  It is a bit after 8AM.  I haven't heard anyone stirring yet, although I am sure they are both up and about; Edward is probably outside sorting through and putting together, this barrage (is that the correct word?) of things he has bought to sell.  Oh yes, he is in the 'storage wars' syndrome of life.  He does make quite a bit of money from it as well.  Actually, I think he has graduated from buying out storage units (I remember one he got last year was nearly all trash), to where he is buying pieces of furniture and exercise equipment.  Apparently he does well at it.  He advertises on Craigs List and elsewhere and people come here off and on through out the day to look at and usually purchase.

Since I don't like to feel like I've 'lost' part of my day by sleeping late I try to get up when I wake up.  For me 8AM is late; however, I didn't get to sleep until after midnight; we stayed up to watch a movie - 'The Impossible' I think it was, and it was over until after 11PM.  It was touching, a real story.  Not one I think I would watch again on my own.  It's not a chick flick, in other words.  It is truly a miracle how this family could all survive the disaster and find each other.  Lucas is a brave young man.

We got up early yesterday and did a quick 2.57 walk around the park to get a bit of exercise.  From there we visited my older brother and then went to lunch with him.  Afterwards we came back and cleaned up, heading downtown to pick up our packages for tomorrow.  These contained our instructions and our shirts.  Daggone it, I need to quit ordering 'LARGE' and realize I am NOT that big anymore.... it is way too big, but wear it proudly I shall tomorrow.

Tomorrow.  Sigh.  I've put it in God's hands if we make the mini or not.  We had such a beautiful day yesterday it is hard to believe thunderstorms are scheduled for today and RAIN tomorrow, and showers on Sunday.  Water from the sky is just considered 'rain' - why do they make a big deal of it and name it other things?  Thunderstorms (I guess that means thunder and lightening), RAIN could possibly mean a hard rain, and showers, could mean just an occasional drenching?  The sky has darkened and we wait for the drops to fall.

But tomorrow.  It isn't showers predicted, it is RAIN.  I can't ask my sissy to do the mini in the RAIN.  Showers, maybe.  RAIN, no.  So I prayed this morning that if we weren't to do the mini, that it will be pouring rain when we get up in the morning.  That will be our sign that we aren't to do it.  To go all the way downtown.  It will be her first mini, my second.  We're signing up for next year today as we want it to be a yearly thing.  I want to do it; I've talked about it for months.  I am excited about doing it.  I just don't want to walk in pouring rain.

So, we have an alternative.  IF we do not walk in the mini because it is pouring rain, my sissy and I will do a 13.1 walk either on Sunday afternoon or Monday - as on both days beautiful weather is predicted.  Of course.  Or maybe Tuesday morning.  My plane leaves in the afternoon on Tuesday so we would still have time.  We WILL get our mini in - either with others or by ourselves.  My sissy has trained for it, and she is ready to attempt it.  And I am as well.

I see my brother in law is already outside and getting ready to come in so I need to get off here and let him have the computer.  More when I can!

Say a prayer we can either have clear weather for the mini or it will be pouring rain in the morning and we can make other plans.  For today - we have plans to visit our older sister and have lunch with her.  Then I will spend the rest of the day with my older brother, coming back here tonight.  I like to spend time with everyone; so I need to also plan time with my brother and sister in law by Sunday at least.  It's going to be a busy weekend!  Mini or not!

Hope you are having beautiful weather and are able to get things done you want to do.

Blessings!
