God can be so funny at times!

Reading in my quiet time this morning gave me cause to think about some things.  I'm always looking for something to share that is of value, rather than my rantings, ravings, and whining.  Seriously.  I've gotten off track from what I wanted this blog for, and instead, since I figure my children are about the only ones who read this, I've taken to sharing my life with them.  After all, we all are busy with life and don't know what is going on with each other.  I guess that thought hit home the other day when my middle child commented that reading my blog helped him to know what was going on in my life.  That made me feel sorta good.... I knew he read it on a fairly regular basis, as I do his.  It's good to read when good things happen - like his blog from yesterday - and rejoice with him.

Yeah I did.  We sometimes wonder about our children and what makes them happy.  We wonder why they don't do the things we think they should do.  We throw our hands up in the air when they don't behave as we think they should - or when they annoy us - or when they disagree with us - or when they are doing their own thing.  But when you read - or hear about - someone doing something good for one of your children (or grandchildren) and it makes them so happy, you rejoice.

If you think about it, God has a sense of humor as well.  We all like to play tricks on each other and do things to startle or make someone laugh.  Today we are gathering at my daughter's house for a family birthday/Memorial Day potluck celebration.  They have a pool.  I can guarantee you there will be people trying to push other people into the pool.  I don't think it is warm enough for me yet.  It surely can not be 90 degrees in the pool yet.  That's why I don't get in until about July.... and out by August.

Oh - back to God's sense of humor.  Ok, think about this.  Can you just imagine Moses' face when God started speaking to him out of the burning bush?  Moses probably was befuddled (would that be the correct word?) at this sight before him.  But can you not imagine God chuckling because he startled Moses?

What about when Jesus had sent the disciples on ahead across the lake?  There was a bad storm that night.  Jesus stayed on the shore.  All of a sudden, in the darkest part of the night (the fourth watch, which is 3AM-6AM), here comes Jesus walking across the water!  Scared the living daylights out of the disciples! They thought He was a ghost!  Jesus had to tell them it was He.  Peter wanted to walk out to meet Him.  Jesus didn't have to let Peter fall into the water.  Jesus could have held out His hand and just be a few feet from Peter so that Peter would keep his eyes on Him.  But Jesus let Peter fall into the water.  And then can you not picture Jesus laughing at the sight of Peter falling into the water?  (True, Peter's faith didn't allow him to keep his eyes on Jesus, but on troubles of the storm about him).  Peter probably wasn't laughing when he fell, but I wonder if he burst our laughing when Jesus did.

Jesus had a playful personality, don't you think?   Just like you and me.  We like to make people laugh, sometimes at our expense, sometimes at theirs.

I love to share stories in which I do stupid things.  Why?  Because they are funny!   Like wearing two different shoes to work.  Or two different color socks. (ok, the socks being different seems to be fashionable now - did I start a new fashion trend?)  Or baking something that is usually really good and forgetting to put a key ingredient in it.  Or baking a turkey and forgetting to take out the 'innards'.  Or thinking about something so intently you walk into a pole.  Or getting to the cash register at the store and realizing you left  your wallet at home.  We've all done some of these, I'm sure.  And we usually tell about it, cause it is funny.

Today - is Memorial Day and the men and women who serve our glorious country in various locations and many different ways, deserve not our laughter, but our respect and appreciation for what they give.  Many are away from families for months at a time.  Those that are home can rejoice, for they have seen, and know, of more than we will ever imagine.  We celebrate those today that are home with families this day, and those who are still away from their loved ones, serving our country.

I often wonder what happen to the respect and honor given the Flag of the United States of America.  They screw up our beloved songs of country and flag.  Because they can not respect themselves, they tear down what other people love and respect.  I think I tear up every time I sing The Star Spangled Banner.  I know, I tear up at most things.  I am so proud to be an American.  I am proud to live in this country.  Our freedom and our privileges keep get taken away from us, from what our forefathers had prayed for us.  But this is our land, it is our country, and we should do our best to bestow the blessings requested by our forefathers upon our children and grandchildren.  We need to fall on our faces before our God and ask for His mercies to fall upon us, and to help us be strong and courageous in the midst of this battle of life.  Only He can save us.  Our forefathers left England because the King of England would not let them worship God.  They came here to give us religious freedom.  To pray blessings upon this new country and dedication to our God who set us free.

But, now I have allowed my thoughts to ramble so will stop for today.  Stop to say 'thank you' to a veteran today.  I remember when I was growing up the American Legion would sell artificial posies in remembrance of our men and women in uniform.  Wow, hadn't thought of that in years.  And yes, it does bring a smile to my face.

God in action.  Watch how He will allow things to transpire to make you smile today.  It may be your favorite meal.  It may be a child saying something funny and unique.  It may be just because it is a good day to be alive and with family.

God is probably laughing at my crazy blog too.  I was reminded today as I read that sometimes our putting off writing a book is not for lack of information, or lack of time, it is because of our insecurities in opening up our thoughts and lives to put it on paper.  I need to quit procrastinating (as someone else I know is... just saying) and just start.  One page at a time.

Have an exciting, funny, and fun-filled day!

Blessings!
