We did have that discussion I talked about yesterday. I stated facts. He squirmed. He said he 'probably should apologize' for he didn't know why he said what he did. He never did apologize. But I'm not going to dwell on it. He acknowledged what he said was wrong. But to make his words 'right' he commented he was paying for the TV with his social security check. So I asked him - how much DO you get? You tell me you pay for the house, the HOA, your car gas, your meals out, the utilities, your things.... all out of your check. He told me.
So I told him.... well, if you pay for that all out of your check, and I pay for my car, maintenance, groceries, my doctor and dentist bills, my car gas, and all the incidentals for the house, decorating, etc. out of MY social security check - why do I need to keep working?
That shut him up. We moved on.
Yeah, I'm not going to let that hang in the air. I addressed what I felt was a wrong attack on me. He got the message. He didn't apologize, but I'm not going to sweat it. It's on him. Now he's scared I'm going to 'retire'. LOL
I talk about retiring frequently.... but, what would I do if I retired? We don't have much of a life outside of my baking or my yarn or material projects. He doesn't like to walk. He doesn't like to hike. He works out infrequently. We both enjoy reading, but .... I think I would be bored out of my mind. When I retire I want to hike, I want to take long walks, I want to volunteer, to do more than even what I am doing now. I am not content to sit at home and do nothing. We don't have enough money saved to do the travel thing many other retirees do.
Oh as for the TV - it was put off until today to get it. After we go to the RV park today for the service, and get back home and change, we will head over to Costco so that hubby will be happy and find another TV. I had him measure the one we have, and how long the table it is sitting on is. If he goes much larger, we will have to get a larger table. Will see how that goes. At least he isn't asking me to put it on one of my credit cards or pay for it for him. I can be grateful for that.
Peace comes when things are put out in the open and discussed. Even if we still disagree on things, if we can agree to disagree, it can bring peace in the air. Disgruntled peace, maybe, but not the stilted hard quiet peace.
Who is it that you have something against that you need to get out in the open and 'agree to disagree' with? Your spouse? A child? A family member? Sometimes just having 'that talk' helps. Never compare people against each other. Each one is made in the image of God; each one is an individual. We were not made to be alike. We have different temperments, different feelings, different ideas, different thoughts. We may have similarities, we may have some of the same habits.
But we are one in Christ. His Word says so. We are to be like Jesus and walk in His footprints. See I Peter 2:21. We may have struggles, but we are to walk as Jesus walked. How are we doing with that?
I struggle, I have to admit. Not that I want to struggle, but it's that 'I want to do it my way' that rears it's ugly head and ..... yeah - it happens to you too, doesn't it? But what if we told ourselves, "no, I don't have to have it done my way. Let me listen to hear how they feel it should be done. Maybe that way is better."
Greater is He who is in you, than he who is in the world. Always remember that. In ALL things, through Christ, you can get through the life that is before us.
I choose to walk in Jesus' footprints. Yeah, I may stumble and fall sometimes, but when I confess my sin, and ask forgiveness, Jesus is always willing to pick me up and put me back on His path. And I am grateful for His forgiveness, His love.
Choose your steps wisely. Walk in Jesus' footprints.
Blessings!
