"They want me - they really want me!" That is what I tell my husband every time Kohls, Macys, Dressbarn - or any of the other places send me discount coupons to come visit their stores. We laugh about it because I have tried to NOT shop since I have not been working, except for needed things. I never have been a big shopper - but I did occasionally shop at the above stores. Usually I let the discount coupons expire unless there is something I do need to get. It has become a joke between us.
In yesterday's emails I received a coupon - from Black Bear Diner! We laughed for it has been probably close to two months since we ate there and I probably signed up for email coupons before then from a previous visit. They just now got around to acknowledging it and welcoming me? So funny! Oh - and what they are welcoming me with is a free beverage with any food purchase. So, I can't just go and get a cup of coffee free. I have to buy a food purchase too.
Isn't that the way most 'discounts' are? You will get one meal free - but you have to buy one meal AND two drinks to get that one meal free. Or, they will give you 25% off your total purchase. Or perhaps you get the one that says $5 off with any purchase over $25. You probably have many others to add to these. And what is their purpose?
To get you to come to their store, their restaurant. They want you. Well, more specifically, your money. They are hoping you will buy something you need, so that you will also justify buying something else you don't need - because, after all, you do get a discount! What about the 'buy one get one'? Do you even need one - let alone two? Hello?
I am so glad that my relationship with Jesus is not on the bargaining table. He died (for me and for you) without it costing us anything. He took away all our burdens and all our cares and all our sins - and died for us so that we don't have to look for a bargain, or a discount, to get to heaven. But it does cost us something. We have to give up the things that hold us. We have to let go of 'things' so that we can hold on to Him.
Whatever we get here on earth will tarnish, will fade, will break, will lose value. The more money we make - the more money we spend on things of no lasting value. We make bills, we pay bills. What is to show for it? By the time we get that bill paid off, we most times no longer have the item(s) we thought we had to have. We spend and waste far more than we save and share.
The world has much to offer - but our prize in heaven is of far greater value - eternal life with Jesus. Our prize has a value that nothing can tarnish; it won't fade, it won't break, it won't lose value.
Matthew 6:19-21 - "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
I Timothy 6:17-19 - "Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life."
Who wants you - and what is it going to cost? What do you place value in?
Blessings!

Who do you trust?
Last week I started seriously scanning the want ads and going to jobungo.com to look for jobs. Everyone looks at the want ads and career builders - I think jobungo has a few not listed elsewhere - not in the paper anyway. I did find some online last week that I could apply for - and did. I will check them out again today and get my resume sent.
It feels strange not to be stressing about finding a job. Part of it may be that I am still receiving my 'retirement pay' until the end of October. Yeah, it was a huge cut in pay with the overtime cut out, but still, we have income. I know I need to find a job, and am actively looking now, but the stress isn't there. I feel a large part of it is that I trust God to provide for us. Whether it be another job, a windfall (the lottery I don't play?) or whatever. I believe that when we follow Him, He will provide for our every NEED. Yeah, not all the wants, but definitely the needs.
I was thinking about it this morning and how God has provided for us time and again. He brought to my mind again how years ago when Tom was unemployed and we were financially struggling even though I was working, how He gave me an answer to my prayers. I had prayed for a sign that everything would be ok. I didn't ask for money, I didn't ask for any thing other than a sign that He heard me cry out to Him and everything would be ok.
The very next morning I needed to take my son, Ralph, to Barry Goldwater High School for 5AM band practice. We came outside and started to get in the car. Ralph told me to look up at the sky. As I did, God reminded me of my request for a sign. The sky was pitch black - except for one circle of bright light shining through a cloud. It was as if heaven was opening up for just a glimpse. My heart filled with joy, for I knew we were going to be ok. I knew that was the sign I had longed for and had prayed for.
Who do you trust when things are tough? When you struggle in relationships, when you need financial help, when you disobey Him when you know you should have obeyed - who do you run to? Who do you trust to meet your every need? In all the struggles you have - who do you look to for help, for encouragement, for hope?
There is a wonderful song that I have known since I was a little girl. The song is based upon Paul's letter to Timothy, in II Timothy 1:12 . "That is why I am suffering as I am. Yet I am not ashamed, because I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him for that day.".
The chorus of the song, I Know Whom I Have Believed goes like this - "But I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able, to keep that which I've committed, unto him against that day".
My life is committed unto Him, therefore I believe, and am persuaded, that He is able to keep me unto Him - each and every day. He is my Rock, my Refuge, my Help. He is my Strength, my Hope, and in Him I build my trust.
As you go through today - what - or whom - are you trusting in? Money is wasted and fades away. Relationships struggle at times and sometimes fail. Jobs come and go. Only one thing is sure. Only One is Faithful and is ready to answer when you call. Don't wait... He's waiting on you.
Blessings!

No Greater Love
Today is the celebrated memorial day. Most people are off work and like us, will be gathering with family throughout the day to have cookouts and in some areas, swim and play. Some will gather in cemeteries to show honor and respect for those who have died, and to those who gave their lives in service for us.
I think of those who have died and remain constant in my heart memory - my Mama, my brothers Sammy and Buddy. My father-in-law whom I loved dearly. My best friends Bertie and David. Friends who have died and I hold dear in my heart. I think of others whom I have known. My heart is sad for my loss. And yet I have hope.
I think of those who have served their country and have given their lives for it, whether in battle or as a result of a battle. I think of the ones who back years ago, had no choice but to serve due to being drafted. They came back changed men. I think of those who chose to serve. They also came back changed. They all served our country well. Serving your country puts life in perspective. It puts responsibility on your shoulders, whether desired or not. Sometimes serving your country demands your very life. And you give all.
Jesus said in John 15:12-17 "My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit - fruit that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. This is my command: Love each other."
I think today of those who not only have served and have given their lives for my - and your - freedom, I think of those still serving. I think of my son, Stuart, who has been on foreign soil to serve, and is still in the Army reserves. I am so proud of him. I am going to attempt to list family members who have served and their branches of service - but am not sure if I will get them correct. Regardless, I am proud of them.
My son Stuart - U.S. Army
My brother Sammy - U.S. Navy
My brother-in-law Steve - U.S. Marines
My husband Tom - U.S. Air Force
My nephew Larry, Jr - U.S. Army
My brother Larry - U.S. Army
My first husband - in honor of my children - Ralph Jr - U.S. Army
My brother Michael - U.S. Navy
My nephew Stephen - U.S. Marines
My son-in-law Esteban - U.S. Army Airborne
I believe my uncles Carl and Elston served, but am not sure what branches of service.
And many friends and sons of friends serving in various branches. To each one I say 'thank you'. To those who gave their lives, I honor you.
And we all have hope. Hope for what? Hope for life eternal. When we put our lives in His hands; when we serve the Risen Lord; when our time comes to leave this world; we have the joy of being with Him forever and ever.
May you remember those who have gone before you today and always. Put your Hope in the One who can give you eternal freedom, eternal life. No greater love is this, that a man should lay down his life for his friends. Jesus loved us with such a great love. He laid down His life for us.
Blessings!

Selected
In my quiet time this morning I read in a book by Priscilla Shirer a chapter on supernatural selection. What does that mean? Three things.
I am chosen.
Jeremiah 1:5 Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.
Before I was a speck in my father's eye, an egg in my mother's womb, I was chosen by God. He knows us (yes, that includes you!) intimately. He knew us before we were conceived, before we were even thought of. He knew what our choices would be, He knew what our lives would consist of.
And He still loved us enough to form us in our mother's womb. And He still loves us enough to walk with us through every battle, every struggle, every celebration of life.
I am set apart.
Ephesians 2:10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
I am not like other people. I am created the way God designed me to be. He has given me certain likes and dislikes, specific skills and abilities. He created me to be me. Not the person I wish I was more like, not famous, just me. I am unique because I am made in the image He chose for me. I can praise Him for who I am and use what He has given me to glorify Him. He has set me apart not to be like others, but to be used by Him.
Just like He has set you apart. We are running this race of life together. It doesn't matter if you are male or female, it doesn't matter if you have great wealth or little. None of that matters to Him. It - and we - all belong to Him anyway. He has the cattle on a thousand hills. He has set YOU apart to be His vessel to a hurting world. These works are before us. Many times we have turned away from them thinking we don't want to get involved, it doesn't pertain to us, we don't have money to give to that, we don't want to give of our time as we are too busy, we think that our gift is not to get involved.
So many excuses. I've used some, as I am sure you have. I have to step out of my comfort zone many times to do something for Him. It isn't about me and my abilities - it is my willingness to give of what I have to glorify Him by helping others. Whether it be helping the homeless by serving meals, helping them find their way, or by assisting others in their time of need. Maybe it is just listening when someone needs a friend. It is about giving of myself and what God has blessed me with. He will give back in abundance what has been given freely. We are to do our part., If we fail to do it, someone who needs you, your uniqueness, will suffer.
2 Corinthians 3:5 Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God.
He will provide what you need, when you need it, how you need it.
I am appointed.
John 15:16 You did not choose Me, but I chose you. I appointed you that you should go out and produce fruit.
For many years I admired others and wanted to be just like them. I wanted to be funny like them, teach like they did, be loved like they were. Then God opened my eyes to see that He created me to be me - not them. I am all these things and more. Not because I studied and strived to be, but because He put things, people, and situations before me that I learned from. He wanted me to be me. And He wants you to be you.
Among the many reasons that God chose you, one was to put you where you can use specific outcomes in your personal life to help others. You can trust that He has planted you right now in the place where you will be the most personally productive. Even if you don't like who you are right now, and don't have any plans to change. Even if you aren't happy with the circumstances you're currently living, you can be sure that God has placed you here with design and intention. He has allowed - and is allowing - you to go through specific things in your life so that you can use what you learn to help others. Are you withholding what you have been given for thinking you don't know how, don't want to, don't have to?
Apple seeds are supposed to grow apple trees. Carrot seeds produce carrots. Your seeds are to produce a crop that is uniquely yours. Don't try to grow seed in you that God gave to someone else to grow. Your job at any given moment is to bring all your gifts, all your talents, all your passions into this thing called life and believe they are good enough to produce the fruit that is expected of you.
He has loved you enough to make you like no other and He's given you a life that is yours alone to complete with His abundant help and empowerment. Resolve to love being you, the way He loved creating you.
God alone created you, set you apart, chose you. God alone completes you. Trust Him. He knows you. He has special plans for you.
Blessings!

A Grandma Day!
I get to have a 'Grandma Day' with Princess Bethany today! Next week I hope to get Princess Tricia for an afternoon so that we can also have a 'Grandma Day'. I love my 'Grandma Days'!
What in the world are 'Grandma Days', you ask?
Those that know me know how much I love my grandchildren - all of them! Since the girls and I have more in common, I have taken to getting one - or both - of the girls (Princess Hailey lives too far away right now) and we spend the afternoon together. We may have lunch and walk the mall, we may get our toes done together, we may go to a movie. Well, that is a list of things we have done in the past. Usually ending up at Cold Stone Creamery. :-)
But now, they are older. Are these good enough? Well, the toes probably are! Today I am lucky enough to get Princess Bethany as she is up from Tucson for the week on a break from school. Princess Tricia is still in school today - but finishes up today, I think, so next week it will be for us. I am not sure what we will do this afternoon, but will have to put my thinking cap on!
The best part, the girls know just what to say when I ask them what do they want to do. They always respond, "Whatever you want to do, grandma, I love to just be with you." Magic words. And I love to just be with them. I don't care if we do nothing but sit and watch a movie. I am with my princess. I have called my granddaughters 'Princess' from the day they were born. Why? Because I figured their parents would call them 'Mommy's girl (or boy)' or 'Daddy's girl (or boy) or 'Angel' or something along those lines of endearment. So I chose Princess. And try to tell them they are NOT a princess and they will refer you to grandma for confirmation! They definitely know that when they ride in our car with grandpa they are NOT to open their own door! They are a princess, therefore, their door will be opened for them.
My grandsons are pretty awesome too, but I haven't spent as much 1:1 time with them. I have tried to let grandpa do that, but he doesn't have as much patience as I do, and when they were much smaller there was no way he could control them. Boys are real wiggleworms! Perhaps now that they are older, grandpa can spend more time with them, even if I have to tag along!
God has truly blessed my life with beautiful grandchildren, inside and out. Oh sure, they have their moments, but never with me! I don't discipline them like their parents have to, so of course they would love to be with me. I try to give them my undivided attention. I listen. Something that as a parent I did not always do, and have always regretted. As a grandparent, I hope that I am doing a much better job at it.
I was advised recently that I am now a great-grandma too. Little Shaelynn was born earlier this month. She lives in Nebraska with her mother, Denise, so unless they come back to Phoenix to visit, who knows if I will ever see her. Denise, being a step-granddaughter, and I do not have the closeness I have with the others. Not because I didn't try; moreso because of life situations. Regardless, I still have a great-granddaughter in Nebraska. I have been looking for material to make her a quilt since I first heard of her existence - and still have not found the material I want. Perhaps I can look again today while I'm out.
Being a grandma is one of my greatest joys. Grandchildren accept you and love you as you are - silly and all. I am truly blessed. How do you view your children, your grandchildren? They may test and try you now, but there will come a time when you will wish you had taken the time to enjoy them. If you can, enjoy them now.
Proverbs 17:6 - Children's children are a crown to the aged, and parents are the pride of their children.
Blessings!

The wife of noble character....
I've been thinking about what to write this morning, even started a blog on motivation - but as I searched my Bible the sayings of King Lemuel stood out to me. How many of us (especially the women) have read these scriptures about the wife of noble character and moved on? It isn't just about women; it is about a life lived.
Proverbs 31:10-31 New Living Translation (NLT)
A Wife of Noble Character
10 Who can find a virtuous and capable wife?
She is more precious than rubies.
11 Her husband can trust her,
and she will greatly enrich his life.
12 She brings him good, not harm,
all the days of her life.
She is more precious than rubies.
11 Her husband can trust her,
and she will greatly enrich his life.
12 She brings him good, not harm,
all the days of her life.
13 She finds wool and flax
and busily spins it.
14 She is like a merchant’s ship,
bringing her food from afar.
15 She gets up before dawn to prepare breakfast for her household
and plan the day’s work for her servant girls.
and busily spins it.
14 She is like a merchant’s ship,
bringing her food from afar.
15 She gets up before dawn to prepare breakfast for her household
and plan the day’s work for her servant girls.
16 She goes to inspect a field and buys it;
with her earnings she plants a vineyard.
17 She is energetic and strong,
a hard worker.
18 She makes sure her dealings are profitable;
her lamp burns late into the night.
with her earnings she plants a vineyard.
17 She is energetic and strong,
a hard worker.
18 She makes sure her dealings are profitable;
her lamp burns late into the night.
19 Her hands are busy spinning thread,
her fingers twisting fiber.
20 She extends a helping hand to the poor
and opens her arms to the needy.
21 She has no fear of winter for her household,
for everyone has warm clothes.
her fingers twisting fiber.
20 She extends a helping hand to the poor
and opens her arms to the needy.
21 She has no fear of winter for her household,
for everyone has warm clothes.
22 She makes her own bedspreads.
She dresses in fine linen and purple gowns.
23 Her husband is well known at the city gates,
where he sits with the other civic leaders.
24 She makes belted linen garments
and sashes to sell to the merchants.
She dresses in fine linen and purple gowns.
23 Her husband is well known at the city gates,
where he sits with the other civic leaders.
24 She makes belted linen garments
and sashes to sell to the merchants.
25 She is clothed with strength and dignity,
and she laughs without fear of the future.
26 When she speaks, her words are wise,
and she gives instructions with kindness.
27 She carefully watches everything in her household
and suffers nothing from laziness.
and she laughs without fear of the future.
26 When she speaks, her words are wise,
and she gives instructions with kindness.
27 She carefully watches everything in her household
and suffers nothing from laziness.
28 Her children stand and bless her.
Her husband praises her:
29 “There are many virtuous and capable women in the world,
but you surpass them all!”
Her husband praises her:
29 “There are many virtuous and capable women in the world,
but you surpass them all!”
30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last;
but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised.
31 Reward her for all she has done.
Let her deeds publicly declare her praise.
but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised.
31 Reward her for all she has done.
Let her deeds publicly declare her praise.
I find myself adding comments here, but each one I have added, I have erased. There can only be one reason.
God's Word stands alone. He doesn't need my help with comments. Take a few minutes. Read it again. If it describes your wife, even parts of it, let her know you value her. Do something for her in appreciation.
What are you doing, men? Are you living a life well-lived? Are you living in fear of the Lord?
Blessings!

Job Hunting
Vacation is over and life is starting to settle back down into reality. Yeah, it is time to get serious about looking for a job. Oh, I have been looking and getting word 'out there' that I'm looking, but unfortunately, I don't know what I want to do! I imagine I will probably end up in administrative work since that is where my biggest experience lies. That's not bad and I do enjoy it. In fact, the jobs I have applied for have been in administration. I either need to make a commitment to change my career focus, or get busy sending out resumes for administration.
In all fairness, I did enjoy the actual work where I retired from. It was stressful at times, but I think we will find that most anywhere, in any job situation. I have always enjoyed working - and I truly never thought I would be content to stay at home like I have been. The joke had been, before I left work, that within a week I'd be working at Starbucks just to get out of the house. Instead I have enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere of doing things I want to do.
No, I haven't gone to the gym often as I had planned. Nor have I cleaned my house from top to bottom, although I did make some changes in my office. Still have work in there to do. I haven't been baking and cooking - all the things I enjoy doing. Things I had planned to do I have not done. Does that make me lazy? No, not really. I have been grateful I have been home so that I can volunteer at a school, volunteer at church, be available when my grandchildren need a ride home from school, or a child wants to spend time with me. I've taken a real vacation, had time to train for a mini-marathon. I've had extensive quiet time. I've had time to read, watch movies. I'm enjoying this time that God has given me to relax.
Am I still believing that God orchestrated this time from working? Absolutely. This is the first time ever that this company offered early retirement. They also gave requirements. I met them all. I have never regretted leaving the company, only my friends there. I often say I need to make cookies and go back - and I may do that in a few weeks. I believe that God planned for my retirement, and has given me this time to come alive again. To rest. To refresh myself in Him. It has been awesome. Will I find a job right away now that I'm seriously looking? I don't know. Before I left my job, I asked God if I should leave, and I felt He was giving me the opportunity. In that prayer, I also asked that He provide for our needs, that when and if I would need to look again for employment, He would provide. I have stood on His promises of provision and will continue to look to Him to meet our needs. He may have a journey planned that I don't see yet. No, not necessarily a trip, but a journey of growth. Of faith. I pray my faith will grow as I continue to trust in Him.
I remember specifically another time that God answered my prayers. Many, many, years ago our youngest son had braces. Financially we were maxed out. There was no money and as I did many times, I cried out to God to help us. I had no idea on how He could meet the current need. $110 was due for the orthodontist that day, which happened to be a payday. I had been praying for help, to figure out how to pay it. On the way to work, I mused in my mind that if taxes were not taken out of my check, that would be enough to cover the bill. And I laughed. Like that would happen.
About 9AM I picked up the checks from payroll and started distributing them as usual (part of my administrative duties for our department). I got a call from the head administrator to stop passing out the checks and bring what I had back. They wanted to attach a notice that there was a problem in the payroll processing early that morning, and some of the checks were incorrect. Most had been processed correctly, but a few had not.
I opened my check. God answered my prayer. No taxes had been taken out of my check that pay period. My check had been in the problems that morning in payroll. Something that was an automatic print through the computer, messed up, and printed my check without taking taxes out. I shared my prayer and what showed on my check to the administrator. I was 'advised' not to share that information for some people would be upset that the following pay period double taxes would be taken out. I didn't care double taxes were taken out the next pay period. God had answered my prayer for that specific pay period. I had the $110 to pay the orthodontist. God is good.
I believe that God is already at work, preparing a place for me to work, and preparing me to work there. Not sure what He has planned, but I know it is going to be good. I keep pondering about one position and am praying to see what He wants to do about it. In the meantime, I will continue to read the ads and update my resume.
I pray that you are trusting God to meet your every need. If you need a job, ask Him for it. Tell Him what you are looking for. Reach out your hand and see that He is good. He will provide.
Blessings!

Keep out of other people's baggage!
Another good message by Pastor Jim Davey from North Hills Church that I am going to share today. I got "nailed". I bet you will too. Of course I will be adding my own thoughts to his!
We all carry baggage with us in one form or another. It could be broken relationships, addictions, habits, attitudes - it could be about anything, even if we are not aware of it. So what is it about baggage that weighs us all down? And why are we always looking at other's baggage and hope theirs is worse than ours?
Pastor Jim used the visual of a baggage carousel. Remember when you get off the plane and 'run' to the carousel and hope your baggage is the first one off? It rarely, if ever, is - but we still hope. Think of the baggage carousel going around with all this baggage. You see one piece of luggage all banged up; another perhaps has decals all over it. Do you watch to see who picks it up? Or are you watching people and seeing what luggage matches them? Are you judging the baggage going around the carousel by the way it looks?
Let's look at baggage we carry around in our lives - on our shoulders, in our attitudes, and many times, in the forms of ulcers. What do we need to do about it? No, I'm not still talking luggage, I'm talking baggage we carry. How many times do we -
* Make assumptions about people; about the baggage in their lives (without looking at our own).
* Pass judgement on their behavior or attitudes.
* Begin to gossip to those around us about the baggage of others.
* Attack the individual and/or baggage with slander.
How do we get out of that 'rut'? We need to be careful how we view other people's baggage. How do we stop viewing other people's baggage with our own 'assumptions'?
We create boundaries. How do we do that? First of all, be careful not to pick up other people's baggage! When you see it, you don't have to own it! Concentrate on owning your own stuff first! Deal with your own baggage. Refuse to own their stuff and focus on your own. What would be a healthy response to that?
Caring - not carrying. Care for those who have baggage, but don't own it, don't carry it yourself. We are to love one another, not BE one another. When you see someone is weighted down with issues, do you try to jump in to make it 'all ok'? Maybe it isn't for you to do. Care for them; don't carry their problems, their baggage. Exchange carrying their stuff for truly caring about them.
Another thought we need to think about is to be careful how we 'hand off' other people's baggage. What does that mean? It's called 'sharing' - in the name of Jesus in a prayer request, of course! Or just plain gossip. Sharing with others about other people's baggage is gossip. We all should have zero tolerance for gossip.
When you want to help someone with their baggage, and not to be an enabler, here are a few questions to ask yourself.
* Will it make a difference? Will your intervention make a difference or will the cycle continue.
* Will it work? Will it upset the cart, or will your intervention help.
* Is the timing right? Is the timing where it can make a lasting difference or is this just a 'quick fix'. Are you sure it is God's timing for your help - or is it even your responsibility to help. Perhaps God has someone else set up to help, and not you.
Matthew 7:1-8 - New Living Translation (NLT)
6 “Don’t waste what is holy on people who are unholy.[e] Don’t throw your pearls to pigs! They will trample the pearls, then turn and attack you.

Do Not Judge Others
7 “Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. 2 For you will be treated as you treat others.[a] The standard you use in judging is the standard by which you will be judged.[b]
3 “And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye[c] when you have a log in your own? 4 How can you think of saying to your friend,[d] ‘Let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,’ when you can’t see past the log in your own eye? 5 Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye.6 “Don’t waste what is holy on people who are unholy.[e] Don’t throw your pearls to pigs! They will trample the pearls, then turn and attack you.
Effective Prayer
7 “Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.
When you feel you need to intervene with someone, share truth on a foundation of love. Make sure you have a connection with them, that they will receive your words with love. Always personalize what you say, and ask yourself, 'is this something I would like them to do or say to me'.
Matthew 7:12 - New Living Translation (NLT)
The Golden Rule
12 “Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets.
Look at yourself through others' eyes. Look at them through your eyes. If they were like you, would you want them to speak truth to you about your baggage? It may hurt, but if you share in love, it can strengthen and encourage them.
Blessings!

Stepping Back...
Sometimes that is just what you have to do as a friend, as a sibling, as a parent, and even as a grandparent. You have to step back.
Step back from what, you ask? Step back from giving unwanted advice, step back from wanting someone you love not to get hurt, step back from trying to help others see what they are doing in their lives that is destroying them. Whether they acknowledge it or not. Step back so that words spoken back to you won't hurt so much.
You hear the "I know what I'm doing", or "I won't make the same mistakes you did", or "I love them with all my heart", or "It was just a misunderstanding, they didn't mean to hurt me", or..... you fill in the blank. We all have heard these things - and many of us have said them over the years.
And your heart breaks for you can see where it is heading. If you say anything, they distance themselves from you, for they don't want to hear the truth. They shut the door on the relationship. They love you less, for if they loved you more, they would give you permission to speak into their lives whether or not they agree with you.
It doesn't mean they have to agree with what is said, but if they are really true to themselves, they would have an open mind and hear what others say. It could be about lifestyles, about relationships, about, well, just about anything. That is called respecting others by listening to them.
My older brother told me years ago - "One thing I will say about you, sis. You always listen to what I have to say, then you do what you damn well please."
Think about it in terms of your relationship with Jesus. Many of you reading this will skim through this part. My heart grieves for you, for you are missing out on the greatest joy in life. I have done a lot of stupid things in my life, have chosen right ways, and wrong ways. One thing I know. No matter what I did or what I said, I always knew that I could turn from those things and turn to the One who loves me unconditionally.
Yes, unconditionally. A love relationship with Jesus isn't contingent upon whether you are doing good or not. His arms are open wide for you at all times. He doesn't turn His back on you when you choose other things over Him. He doesn't close the door in your face when you reject His words in your mind telling you which way to go, which direction you should take. Jesus constantly brings your name up before our Father in heaven, that you will turn to Him and choose to live your life worthy of all the blessings He wants to give you.
If you are struggling in your relationship - why is that? Could it be that is not the relationship you should be in? You are already struggling - open your eyes to see why. Good relationships do not consist of bickering and fighting before you are married. If you are married and struggling, perhaps you should look at what you are doing that you need to work on changing. Oh yeah, it is usually the spouse, correct? Regardless of how hard that marriage is at times, God can change you, and your spouse, when you seek Him first and ask for His direction.
Am I speaking to the choir? Oh yeah. I need to do a lot of changing in many areas. I'm sure you do too. Do you need to give up something to bring peace in a relationship? Is it too demanding?
Just thinking..... if you are unwilling to give up something you say you 'enjoy' to "earn" the love you say you desire, what does that say about you? Love doesn't need to be earned. It is given freely, unconditionally.
Like a mother's love. A father's love. A sibling's love. And most of all, the love of Jesus. Given freely. Unconditionally.
Do you feel all alone? Perhaps it was you who moved. Reach out and restore that relationship. Some day you will wish you did.
Blessings!

Volunteering
I have been able to volunteer at a local elementary school here in Phoenix and I was invited to a volunteer breakfast at the school this morning. We had a great breakfast from Starbucks coffee to Einstein bagels and homemade egg dishes, fruit, ham, and pastries. It was so nice of the teachers to honor the volunteers - many volunteers have volunteered for several years! - and acknowledge their appreciation for the help. One more week to volunteer before school is out for the summer.
Since I will need to find a job fairly soon now, I probably won't be able to volunteer anymore, unless what I find has hours that I can work it in. I have really enjoyed working with the children. My daughter used to tell me that I should have been a teacher. Perhaps. She became a teacher for a few years, but gave it up to pursue real estate. I wonder if she has ever regretted that.
Anyway, I wanted to share about volunteering to get you thinking about doing some of your own. When I was working, I was able to volunteer for various projects with schools - collecting school supplies for some of the children at various schools, participating in fund raisers for charities, etc. I wasn't able to personally volunteer, but through work I could help support by participation. You don't have to have a job to volunteer. You can do things on your own.
Like volunteering to help teachers at the local schools. Perhaps one that your children or grandchildren go to. Yes, there are steps you need to take in order to do that, but it is well worth it. The schools also can use help with maintenance, painting of buildings, etc. Teachers need pencils sharpened, papers copied, students need read to or need to read to you.
You can volunteer at your church - work in the church office, help clean the facility, do maintenance as well. There may also be an opportunity to facilitate a class, helping with Sunday School, helping with MOPS (Moms of Preschoolers) when they meet. Pehaps the band needs music copied. There are lots of ways you can help.
You can volunteer at the Animal Welfare Shelters, cleaning the kennels and loving on the animals. Many of the animals need to be taken out for walks for exercise.
You can volunteer .............. fill in the blank. There are numerous places what welcome people to volunteer even for just a couple hours a week. Big Brothers Big Sisters is another one.
What about visiting people in an assisted living or nursing home? Many have no visitors at all and would love for someone to care about them.

You can make a difference in someone's life. Got extra time on your hands? Think of someone or some place where you can give back.

The Lord's Prayer
In my quiet time this morning I was thinking over a conversation I had last night with a dear friend named Paul. We were talking 'church stuff' and the subject of the Lord's Prayer came up. He mentioned that someone had commented to him that we should pray the Lord's Prayer every day (or at least every Sunday) for there are so many that do not know it. (Do you?)
As I sat there, I began to pray the Lord's Prayer. I learned a long time ago to elaborate on the Prayer, so let's do this together. Perhaps it will cause you to think as you pray it, rather than just letting it be memorized words.
Our Father. You alone are our Father, our God, our Lord, our Saviour, our Friend. You are our Counselor, Redeemer, Gracious and Almighty Lord. (and you can add a lot more! Tell Him how you see Him)
Who art in Heaven. You are high above the earth; you see all things. You are Holy and where You reside is Holy. The streets are gold, the angels sing praises. I can't wait to be with You in heaven and be in Your mansion prepared for me.
Hallowed be Thy Name. Your name is Holy, Holy, Holy. You Name is Lord, Creator, El Shaddai, Adonai, Almighty Lord, Jehovah, and so much more. Every one of Your names is Holy for it describes You.
Thy kingdom come. Oh Lord, that Your kingdom will reign here on earth right now. That we will seek You and Your kingdom.
Thy will be done. Father, may all things be done according to Thy will. Remove my will and make it Yours. Let my every thought be what You desire. I pray that my children will be open to Your will and will seek Your will above theirs.
On earth as it is in heaven. Father, that our being here on earth can make a difference to others, that just a glimpse of You and where You live will increase our desire to make this world a better place. For some people, what they have here is what they believe heaven to be; it is so much more!
Give us this day our daily bread. Father, thank You for providing for our every need, putting food on our plate, giving us the ability to meet the needs of not only ourselves, but others. Thank you for providing these things for us.
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. This one is sometimes harder, Lord. Please help me to forgive that person who hurt me, that slighted me, that angered me. Help me to forgive them, that when I come to You and ask forgiveness, You will forgive me, and not remind me I haven't forgiven someone.
Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. I know You don't 'lead' us into temptation, but keep temptation far from me. Deliver me from the evil one, that he will be unable to tempt me to do wrong. Please help my children to turn from temptation and do good.
For Thine is the Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory, forever and ever. Being with You is glorious, O Lord. You alone are God; nothing can ever take Your place. All power, all glory, all honor, is Yours alone.
Amen. and Amen.

Released!
I patiently waited until 11AM yesterday morning to make the phone call to see if I needed to appear for jury duty. I prayed about it that morning in my quiet time. I didn't mind going to jury duty; I just don't like getting out of my normal routine and comfort zone. Yeah, just like many of you. I also knew that if I had jury duty, I couldn't go help the children read at the elementary school I have been volunteering at. So, I just left it up to God. If He wanted me to go to jury duty, so be it. Or, if he wanted me to go to the school to help, that would be it. YEA!! I got released from jury duty (thank you, God!) and did not have to go downtown. I did go over to the school and got to work with four children. I am going over again in about an hour or so to help some more. I love being with children (especially grandchildren!) and learning from them.
Speaking of grandchildren, Nathan was in a band concert last night that we got to listen to. Of course my grandson did an awesome job - can't say much about the others! Just kidding! This is the first year for the 4th graders so even after a year, they can only do so much. It was fun being with family even for a short while.
We had to get home shortly after the concert as a friend from northern Arizona had called before we left the house to see if he could stay all night with us. His sister was having surgery today and he didn't want to drive down this morning. So of course we said yes - but then I had to get moving and clear off the bed! I still had things there I hadn't put away from unpacking over the weekend. Got it done, David arrived and we visited some before heading to bed. I got up early this morning to fix a nice breakfast for him.....only for him to tell me as he headed out the door 'I don't eat breakfast'. Oh well, Tom and I had a nice breakfast, although it was not as healthy as we would have eaten had I not fixed it. But, it was good nevertheless. It was good to see our friend. I guess he is preaching up north 3 Sundays in July and asked if we wanted to come up one of those weekends. We didn't make any promises, but we probably will.
Being released from jury duty was nice. Although my morning was kind of messed up because I couldn't plan anything for the afternoon until I made the phone call at 11AM, it gave me back my day. I could finally proceed with what I like to do (helping the kids at the elementary school).
Released. That word could mean many things. For yesterday, released meant I didn't have to go downtown for jury duty. In other things, released could mean something else. Released from school. Released from work. (yipes) Released from a diet (oh yeah!). And many more.
Released. I think the greatest 'release' I have had is being released from my sins. Jesus went to the cross to die for me, taking all my sins upon His own shoulders. He released them all from me, so that I didn't have to pay the penalty for my sins. He has opened the doors of heaven, just for me. And for you. Have you been released from the troubles of this world? From the pain caused from poor choices? From doing things your way and failing every time? Take some time and turn those over to Jesus - He alone can set you free - and give you 'release'.
Blessings!

Jury Duty.... maybe....
I am scheduled for jury duty today. Maybe. I called last night, but the recording said for me to call back at 11AM today and see if I need to report at 1PM. I have mixed feelings. I don't mind going to jury duty, but having to call at 11AM and keeping my afternoon 'open' for now is dragging out the day. Today is also the day I go to read with some children at John Jacobs Elementary School. If I have to go to superior court for jury duty, I can't do that. As I did my quiet time this morning I asked God to decide for me. Both things are good; I would choose the children as it is 'more fun', but I want to be where God wants me to be. Therefore, I'll let Him direct my path. I don't have a choice in the matter of court, so may as well let God direct the proceedings for today to see if I need to go downtown. That's the part I don't like - going downtown. But go I will, if God wants allows the need for me to go.
I read in my quiet time this morning in I Samuel 17 about David and Goliath. As many of you know, Goliath was a Philistine, and a very large one at that! But David was not afraid of Goliath, for he knew that his God was BIGGER and GREATER than anyone or anything. David chose five smooth stones from the stream, put them in the pouch of his shepherd's bag and, with his sling in hand, approached the Philistine. Goliath made fun of David and made threats to give his flesh to the birds of the air and the beasts of the field. But David stood firm. He told Goliath, 'you come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will hand you over to me, and I'll strike you down and cut off your head. Today I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord's, and he will give all of you into our hands.'
And you know the rest of the story. Goliath moved to fight and David ran quickly to the battle line to meet him. He reached into his bag and pulled out one stone. He slung the stone and it struck Goliath on the forehead and the stone sunk into his forehead and he fell to the ground. David used Goliath's own sword to cut off Goliath's head.
What is your Goliath? What is it that you need to stand against? Is it sinful lifestyles that you need to stand up against and say 'no more'? Is it seeking things that you know is not of God? Is it your own rebellion against family, against those who love you, rebellion against God? What do you need to quit ignoring and stand up for what is right and good, conquering the enemy?
Perhaps it is something good, but you are allowing it to control you, to take over your life. Perhaps it is your job that consumes you. You have no time for family anymore. Maybe it is laziness. Maybe it is other people who you have allowed to control you, to tell you what you can do and what you can't do. Maybe you are the one in rebellion and allowing all these things, and more, to escape your responsibility as a child of God. Maybe you are choosing your will, your ways, your desires.... and all these things have become your Goliath. They are standing in your way of being the man or woman God created you to be.
So what are you going to do about it? First of all, I suggest you confess your Goliath to God. Ask His forgiveness. Seek Him. Give Him permission (not that He needs it, but He would like for you to quit fighting Him) to direct your life. Whatever is going on in your life today, right now, let it go. Give it to God, ask Him to work through the mess you have made, and bring good from it.
We all have Goliaths in our lives from time to time. Some we place there on our own, some others place before us. How are you going to deal with them? Are you going to run off and hide, back away until someone else fights your battle for you? Or are you going to stand firm and say that 'I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty' and allow God to direct your steps.
We don't understand why God allows some things to happen. Things that hurt, things that tear families apart. Divorce. Murder. Death. Financial difficulties. Loss of jobs. Addictions. Life is sometimes very hard. The real question during these times is are you willing to let God be God. Are you ready, and willing, to relinquish control to Him. It doesn't mean you do nothing. It means you seek Him and wait on His timing. Nothing is too big or to great for our God to handle.
I have my own Goliaths, some I have conquered, some I need to relinquish and let God conquer. Some are real, some are imagined. One thing I do know. I don't need to fight my Goliaths alone. And neither do you. Don't worry. Pray. Tell God. Praise and Thank Him. Receive His Peace.
Blessings!

Home at Last!
I am home. The trip back to Phoenix from Indianapolis was uneventful except for the young woman (early 20's, I am guessing) about 4'10" who slouched in the middle seat with her shoulders against the seat back and her knees against the seat in front of her, squirming the entire trip - and letting out gross farts! I am so serious!! Of course I couldn't prove it was her - but still, it was pretty strong and her butt was free to 'move'. Ok - on to better topics!
Yesterday's message at church was on 'hidden things'. Part of the 'Baggage' series the pastor is doing. It reminded me of how we 'hide' things from each other, from God (we think) and from ourselves. We don't want to face the truth of the matter, so we bury, we hide, it. Do you do that? I am sure that I do. Things that would hurt others, I hold in. In my journal this morning when I did my quiet time, as I was writing I thought of how 'some day' someone may read it. But, it wouldn't be my journal if I couldn't 'voice' how I feel about things. When I feel hurt, neglected, pushed aside - or when I feel happy, joyful, and needed. We all go through those feelings - they make us who we are.
Yesterday was also Mother's Day. Interesting day. And that is all I will say about it. Not as good as some I've had, worse than others. All in all, I guess I should just look at it as another day.
My middle child called me a bit ago and will be stopping by shortly. I love it that he wants to stop by on occasion and even will ask Tom or I to breakfast or lunch. Sometimes dinner too. I don't even mind if we pay our own way, being with family is so important to me. Unfortunately, with the busyness of life, everyone is usually wrapped up in their activities and have no time to make friends, or to enjoy family. Life holds us all captive, as do choices.
I need to start looking for work now. Real work. I have enjoyed these months on 'early retirement'. I don't miss it - the stress of it all. I feel I am more relaxed (I know my blood pressure has gone down!) I know we need to get money coming in for bills will soon overtake us if we don't. It would be nice if Tom and I both found a job. I don't see my 'dream job' ever happening, so will be checking around and getting my resume updated. Unfortunately, pay will be a deciding point on some jobs. I still am confident that God has 'the job' lined up for me. I just need to get my resume out there and see what God is going to do with it. My confidence is entirely in Him.
I think my little sissy has an interview today for her new career. She just finished her CNA classes and will be taking her certification test on May 25th. In the meantime, she can still apply for jobs. This is her gifting. I know I couldn't be a CNA and be a good one. Oh, in time I could, for I love people. But, she really does love this type of work and enjoys taking care of people in their latter years. I am so proud of her.
Today is Monday and the beginning of the work week. Tom is at a meeting and said he would call me when he is done, 'just in case I want to go to the gym with him'. Sigh. BIG sigh. The one thing we 'fight' about the most often. Oh well.
Got to go! Having lunch with my son!
Blessings!

Almost Home!
Here it is Friday night already and I go home tomorrow! As much as I have enjoyed my time here in Indy, it is time to go ' home'. I know that Tom misses me, anyway. That's always a good thing. Ralph, I appreciate you entertaining Tom while I've been gone. Thank you.
It has been a lazy day - getting books and music downloaded onto my laptop and iphone. We did go out for breakfast this morning at a place called 'Emmys'. They had huge omelets! Tonight we ate at Buffalo Wild Wings. "I can't believe I ate the whole thing"! LOL The wings and potato wedges were delicious! My nephew and his wife joined my brother and sister in law (and me) so it was a fun time.
Tomorrow morning after a light breakfast the plan is for us to take a moderate (meaning, my speed) walk around the park. Not sure which park we will go to - the one near here or Hummel Park. Probably the one near here, but I don't remember the name of it. Anyway, bro says we will plan on 5 miles. That should get my blood pumping. Not sure what we will do after that other than I will get my suitcase repacked for the final time, print my boarding pass, and get ready to head to the airport around 4PM Indy time.
Heading home. Although that sounds good, since I have been away nearly two weeks, I have stopped to think of what it would mean to be truly 'Heading HOME'. Have you ever pondered that? Where will you end up? Will you be with your beloved spouse, your children, your parents, your grandparents.... or will you be left alone. Will where you end up leave you feeling worse - or will you be filled with joy at reunion. Things to ponder, I think.
I have so much to work on in my life - and I know that I will fail time and again. I am so grateful we can go to Jesus at any time, and any place, and He will open His arms wide to receive us. But we have to confess our sins, and ask for his forgiveness. He is our Gracious and Loving God and He is more than willing to forgive.
Has something come to mind that you need to ask forgiveness for? Perhaps it isn't only God that you need to ask forgiveness from. Perhaps there is a person you need to ask forgiveness from - and to forgive. It is freeing to forgive; unforgiveness holds you in bondage.
Are you ready to 'head home'?
Blessings!

Episode 6 - Love.....
Not a Fan - Episode 6
youtu.be
I'm still enjoying my visit here in Indiana. I've been with my little sissy the past couple days and we have had so much fun. Today we bought flowers and visited mama's gravesite. I miss my mama so much. When they are here on earth, we always think those we love will be here forever. But that isn't always the case. I'm still here, but my mama, and two of my brothers, are not. If they were to have seen these videos that we have been watching - would their lives have changed? Would it have made a difference? I can not say. I only have control over my life. Will it count? That is up to me.
I had to order the study guide for the episodes. I want to do a small group study somewhere - in our home, perhaps - and share this information. We all need to relook at how we live life. It is up to you, it is up to me.
We had dinner tonight with my nieces and nephew and lots of children! They are so cute when they are little! It was a fun time of seeing them again and being together. Now we are starting to settle down for the night. Tomorrow morning, if it isn't raining as it is tonight, we want to walk Hummel Park again, then go visit my Aunt Grace. She is 95 now and the last remaining sibling of our mama. She is in a rehabilitation facility now after a fall and hip surgery. She is walking very well and should be going home soon. It probably will be the last time I will see her while I'm here this trip. We have bought her a small gift and a box of chocolates. Mama always said when you go in the hospital to have a box of chocolates for the nurses and doctors to munch on. They are always more likely to come in and check on you if you have chocolate. My mama did love company.
Tomorrow I will go over to my brother's house for the rest of my stay here in Indianapolis. He wants to download some music for me and I'm not sure what else we will do. I hope I'm not boring you with all these things I share of my trip. I do it so that my children will know what I've been up to.
Besides watching Stuart eat Buffalo Hot Wings (12 in 5 mins 59 sec) on Facebook. Or the Ghost Chili Sauce. I laughed at that one. He always was the one who wanted to do something different and challenging. I think he has a 6 pound hamburger that he wants to eat yet at the Toby Keith Grill or something like that.
Anyway - it is getting late and I need to get to bed. I hope you take time to watch this video - or let me know that you want to be in a small group once the videos come in. Your life will never be the same - regardless how you receive the video.
Hope you are having a wonderful week.
Blessings!

Been out of network!
I'm back! I haven't been able to get online to my blog since last week. I left my sissy's house to go to my brother's last Thursday. Between being really busy there and the mini marathon (more on that further down), and being unable to get on his Internet without the password (and when I tried it was 4AM Indy time so I wasn't going to wake him up to ask for it), then Sunday after the March of Dimes walk (more on that further down too) we went to my brother-in-laws for a couple days - and they couldn't find the security code to log in to their Internet. No one had ever asked them for it and since a friend, who had since moved out of state, had set them up. Now I am back at my sissy's house and back online so that I can update my blog. I have actually missed getting to add and tell what I'm doing! Is that a good thing?
So - my last blog was before the mini marathon. We did walk the canal downtown Indianapolis on Friday to get some walking in. I don't remember how far we walked, but at least 3-4 miles I'd guess. Indianapolis has really fixed canal up with so many neat things. One is the USS Indianapolis replica with all the names on it. They also had a medal of honor monument. So many neat things to see. I was glad we did the canal walk. I had no idea how neat the canal was. I know our canal that Tom and I have been walking for training can get really boring. Some grass, yes, but nothing spectacular to look at. This canal had bridges, water fountains - and real water running through the canal with big goldfish in it. So very nice to walk. And lots cooler than Phoenix!
The One American 500 Festival Mini Marathon was Saturday,. May 5th. Yes, Tom and I did walk the mini marathon, and we did complete it in our own power in 3 hours, 45 minutes, 48 seconds. We probably could have shaved a few minutes off, but towards the end, we really didn't care about 'speed', just about completion. My brother and his wife passed us and beat us by about 8-10 minutes, I forget how much. Good thing - they were there to take our photo as we came across the finish line. If we were first - no one would have taken it! We were glad for it to be over. It was organized really well. There were 'pit stops' periodically throughout the entire 13.1 miles, several bands playing as we went by, and numerous people cheering us on, calling us by name (our names were on our bibs in large letters), lots of water and Gatorade ready as we walked by and numerous volunteers and medical people being available for those who fell by the wayside. For me, I think the toughest part was the walk around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway 500 Race Track. Because of the angle of the track, my ankles got a little sore and lots of heat coming from the asphalt. I read in Sunday's paper the humidity on Saturday was 90% plus I think the temperature was in the mid-80's. Still, it was a totally awesome experience. Would I do it again?
For now, let's just say that on the way to the mini I told my brother thank you for the challenge to do the mini, it was something I had never thought I would ever do, and I definitely would not have done that one with it being in Indianapolis and I live in Phoenix. I told him I wanted to thank him on the way, for I was sure AFTER the mini, I would not be so warm and receptive to the idea. I wasn't. When he asked if I wanted to do it again next year, my answer was a steadfast 'NO'. However, later on facebook when he asked the question again on one of my posts about the mini, I did tell him to ask me again in January. I'll make a decision then.
I was pretty sore when we finished the 13.1 miles. We got back to the house, and since my bro and his wife were going to shower and chill out for a little while, Tom and I took advantage of the time for a short nap. It was refreshing to say the least.
My brother had a cookout for those who did the mini (friends and family) Saturday evening. I slept fairly good Saturday evening, although I was awakened about 4AM by something pushing against my back. My immediate response (since Tom had gone to his brother's earlier in the evening and I was alone in the bed) was to say 'in the Name of Jesus, I command you to leave'! Honest - I heard whatever it was jump off the bed and take off down the hall. Then I remembered their dog, Rowdy. I said, "I'm sorry, Rowdy, come back." Then I realized that Rowdy was in his cage.
I sat up on that thought! I turned on the light and went to the bathroom down the hall. When I came back, I noticed that the bed's mattress had been pushed over about 4 inches. Weird. I had not gotten in on that side nor out. Of course I could have pushed it when I had made the bed that morning. I don't know. But I do know what I heard. And I am grateful I know to call on the Name of the One who can dispel things that go 'boo' during the night. Those that snuggle too.
Sunday morning we went to church in Brownsburg
Sunday afternoon was the walk for the March of Dimes. My legs were still pretty sore and I was glad when my sissy came to join me, our brother and sis in law, nephew and niece in law and others in the walk. After the walk, my brother drove me over to my brother in laws where Tom was. We had a great evening and next day with them. Our sis in law works at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway so we got to go over and visit her, plus did an expensive walk through the gift shop. And I got nothing! LOL No worries - I didn't want anything.
This morning Tom, his brother and I met my little sissy at Bob Evans for breakfast - and then I left with my little sissy. Tom spent the rest of today with his brother and headed home tonight. He should be in Phoenix by now. Ralph was to pick him up. I am staying in Indianapolis until Saturday.
My little sissy and I went to Brown County today and had a blast going through the shops. I didn't buy anything - ok, I bought us an ice cream cone. We had a great time and the weather was beautiful. If you ever come to Indiana, you need to plan a trip to Brown County in Nashville, IN to tour all the shops. They even have a bed and breakfast there that my sissy says is awesome. On the way back, we decided to ask our older sister out to dinner. We picked her up and headed over to Ponderosa, where she suggested we go. We had so much fun! I do not remember when the three of us have laughed so hard! It was so funny - and you can't tell me, my dear friends my age or older, that you don't do this too! We began sharing our various ailments and discomforts. I started laughing and said "we have become our mama and Aunt Florence'! Then we really started laughing so hard that we were coughing! At one point I got up and left the table and waited by the door for we had gotten so loud with our laughing, and couldn't stop! It was such fun! After taking our older sister home, we found our way to Hummel Park where my little sissy and I walked two miles to work down our dinner. After that - here we are, back at the house, and I'm on the computer FINALLY completing my blog.
In fact, my daughter just called and wanted to hear about my week, mentioning that she had been checking my blog and knew I hadn't added anything since Thursday! Tom called just a bit ago and said he had landed in Phoenix and was heading to the baggage area. I am sure it will be a long rest of the week for him with me in Indy still and he alone in Phoenix.
I think I have updated you pretty much on how the past few days are gone - and quite lengthy at that. I hope that I haven't bored you, but that you have found it entertaining and interesting. I am overall, having a blast and very much enjoying this time with family. I am with my little sissy until Thursday afternoon when I will go back to my brother's until I leave on Saturday.
I hope your week has gone well. I will try to add more as I can.
Blessings!

Whew, it is HOT here!
and it isn't a DRY heat either! I have forgotten how hot it can get in Indiana in the summer time - when the temps are in the high 80's and the humidity is in the 60's and 70's - even I sweat!
Actually, it hasn't been too bad - just muggy. We did go walk after breakfast yesterday - but we ended up walking less than two miles. Could have gone more, but it really was muggy. I like the way they have their walking park here in Plainfield. Hummel Park has a nice paved path - once around is a little over a mile, I think I was told. You can cut off and go another direction to get more miles in, rather than repeating the mile over and over, but as we started on that path, found that part of the path had been underwater due to the creeks on both sides of the path and the rain the past few days. It had about an inch or so of wet mud across the road and grass on either side- so we chose to turnaround and go back the way we came.
We really have seen some real thunderstorms out here already. Actually, we were about 30-40 minutes late in landing due to a thunderstorm by the airport. The pilot couldn't land the plane and we had to circle the area until it cleared enough to land. We didn't have turbulence and for that I am extremely grateful. The pilot did an awesome job of landing the plane.
Been spending time with my sissy and her hubby and having lots of fun. My step-brother and wife came over last night and visited. My brother-in-law fixed some of his famous barbecue chicken, corn on the cob for dinner. Sissy and I did some shopping yesterday and stopped long enough to get our toes done. Where we went was pretty nice - we were the only ones there for awhile - and they very slowly and patiently worked on our toes and feet. Really pampered us.
Had lunch with my little brother and his wife today at Squealers (yeah, a pulled pork barbecue place -Don & Suzanne you would love this place! ) and are getting ready to head over to my older brother's house to spend a few days. This is the brother who threw down the gauntlet for us to walk in the mini. He has told me if it is raining - as it is predicted - he is not walking. Health and not being miserable is more important than proving a point and walking in pouring rain. I agree. He already has a back-up plan for us to walk next week the 13.1 miles should the weather prove daunting on Saturday. We will walk the 13.1 miles - just not sure if Saturday or next week.
The weather today is beautiful. My sissy's house backs up next to the woods and as I look out the office window, I see nothing but green and trees. Absolutely gorgeous. We sat out on the porch some yesterday - it really is gorgeous here. So peaceful. The sky is blue with white clouds - but more thunderstorms are predicted for tomorrow. It's hard to believe today is already Thursday.
My sissy and I were talking earlier that today would have been our little half-brother's birthday 50th birthday. My kids remember their Uncle Buddy best, I think, since he lived with us for a short time. I was thinking this morning about him and trying to remember how long he has been 'gone'. I think he died in 1996, but am not sure. Can't even picture him older than 20. We moved away in '83 so didn't see him much after that. Certainly at his three children's funeral (they died in a fire October 10, 1986) and maybe once or twice after that. Buddy was pretty special to us. We talked some on the phone, but not often. We didn't make it back to Indianapolis much after we moved away so visiting with any of the family was minimal. Happy Birthday, Buddy - aka Irvin Franklin Hankins II. I love and miss you a lot.
Guess I need to get off here and get my computer and suitcase packed up and get ready to go to my brother's house. He is going to download some music for me. I love his tapes and it's a free download - so why not? Thanks, Larry!
Hope that you are having a good day.
Blessings!
