Although I have been up for over an hour, have read my Bible, have spent time focused on God already this morning, hubby has brought my coffee, has left for his Bible study, and now I am alone (with Sheeba, of course).... I sit here and listen to the quiet around me, and love it. I hear the traffic going up and down the road a block away. I hear the clicking of the keys on the laptop as I type this. But when I stop.... I hear silence. And it is good.
I almost don't want to break that silence by typing again. I did say 'almost'. Of course as I say that, I am also pondering what could I possibly write about today.
As for my little sister, in case you were wondering how that ended up.... when she had sent me the red-marked up photo for me to retype, and I had told her she had a computer, to retype what she wanted as I couldn't read what she wrote.... she was too busy, going to the aquarium with our niece and her children. While she was gone, she text'd me back that she decided she wasn't going to do any of it. She would just read the 23rd Psalm because she was trying to be someone she wasn't and it was phony. I think I understand what she is saying.... but I told her that if she read what we originally typed and agreed on (without all the 'I' and 'me' in it, she would do fine. Today is the funeral and I have no idea what she will do. She used to be so funny and full of life, but her marriage has made her a total introvert and she has no confidence in her ability to do anything.
When we did the 13.1 mini marathon in 2013, we were barely two miles into it when she wanted to quit. I refused to let her, telling her that she was going to finish something. She would always start, and never finish, saying she just couldn't do it, she wasn't smart enough, etc. I literally had to drag her through all the miles to get her to the end. And from that we had a major breakdown between us and she didn't speak to me for months. Another story that I have already shared. But she finished something, although in her anger at me for laughing about having to drag her through it all, she threw away every remembrance of the mini...including her medal. Then she asked me for mine when she began speaking to me again. I sent it to her for the joy in it was removed for me. A few years later she returned it to me. She accomplished it, and yet in her anger, threw away every reminder of her 'win'. Another story, another lesson, another day.
Oh - my prizes I won yesterday! The man who gave the gifts reminded me somewhat of my son, although he had a white beard. He was non-talkative. I told him who I was and tried to make a conversation (I would have like to have seen what else he made and the costs) but he very quickly got my items out of his house, handed them off, and walked away. Did he regret doing what he did? I think some of these were items he had made for others and they did not come to pick them up and pay the price for them. These items are a lot bigger than what I thought they would be, and they are really heavy. He did a great job on them. But I have no place for them.... I showed my daughter what I had won last night and she really liked the family photo frame. Yes, it is very heavy too. It's probably 30" tall and 24" wide (and I'm just guessing at that) and you can hang photos on the strings with the little clothes pins. Really creative and cute, but I don't have a wall to put it on. So I let her have it for her grandchildren's photos. I have a fairly large heavy flag that looks wavy with a blue line across the middle. I really like and and wish I had a place to put it. I'm not sure what to do with it; I have a friend who may want it, but for now, will hang on to it until I figure that out. The last thing I won was a wooden cross and it's fairly big too. I'm hoping I can figure how to hang it out on the front porch. There is a nail that looks pretty secure out front and I haven't checked to see if he put a hanging hook on the back of the cross, but if he has and it works - I have a place for it. He does really great work and I would have liked to see what else he has made. I can't buy a lot, for sure, but if something caught my eye I would certainly consider it. The work he has put into it is well worth the money.
As Easter approaches there is Someone who did something for each one of us that was 'well worth the money'.... actually, if we bring money into it, the 30 pieces of silver doesn't even come close to His value. But that is what was given for His betrayal. Jesus was born, lived, and died.... all for us. When people are asked what is their 'favorite' holiday, it's interesting what they say, and the reason they say it. Some say Thanksgiving because of all the food and family. (notice the order) Others would say Christmas because of all the gifts. Others say Easter because of the 'Easter bunny' and all the peeps and the Easter candy eggs.
Each holiday noted above is special to me, but for different reasons. I love having family about (although my dreams of all my family together ....) and just eating lots of food... and I love making my grandmother's cornbread dressing and giblet gravy. I hope my children continue to make it in their own families so that tradition will be handed down. I love Christmas, because that is when we celebrate the birth of Jesus. Yeah, you thought I was going to say all the gifts, didn't you! I love taking those moments in the morning early and reflecting on what the celebration is about. The birth of Jesus. My Lord, my Savior. Christmas is all about Him. Not so much to the secular world - to them it's all about gifts. We give gifts because the wise men brought Jesus gifts. But Easter, Easter is even more special than the birth of Jesus. It's when Jesus gave up His life, so that we can live. For 30 pieces of silver, He was betrayed.
How often do we betray Jesus by the things we say, the things we do? Oh we may not take 30 pieces of silver for Him....unfortunately, we often take much less. Instead of honoring and worshipping Jesus, and giving Him the glory He deserves as the only begotten Son of our El Shaddai, our Almighty God... we tend to push Him behind the Easter candy and Easter baskets and not even think about the betrayal, the scourging, the cross on which He hanged. Do we even go beyond the cross and think of the tomb... which became empty on Easter morning? And why was it empty?
Because He arose! Yes, Jesus arose from the dead. He descended, and then ascended unto His Father, our Father. We serve a risen Savior, not One still on the cross, who died. We serve a risen Savior, One who was removed from the cross, buried, and came to life again. For me, and for you. He gave up His life, to save yours.
Something to think about. Are you willing to give Him your life?
Blessings!
