Interesting title, don't you think? I read in my devotional this morning about someone who was praying and just said 'Lord, Surprise me!' and from then on, he began to notice more the things that God did to 'surprise him'.
Just like this morning I got a nice surprise of light traffic and no accidents on the way to work. Yep - I couldn't believe it either. Yesterday we had another semi turned over on the freeway and this one caught on fire, killing the driver. And it was at my exit. I had no way around it. Well, I did, sort of. I took a few side streets and finally jumped on another 'freeway' to get to my exit - and when I got off had about a 2 mile backup at the light where I had to turn to get on my road. It took me about 20 minutes to get to the turn itself - and then I was at work within five minutes. Overall, it took me about an hour to get to work yesterday, and not leaving early as I had the day before, I didn't get to work until about 7:50AM, too late to start a blog. -
Anyway, back to the title. I decided that I wanted to pray that too. "Lord, Surprise me." Sounds simple enough. He has already surprised me by getting me to work really quick this morning - AND - someone had already made coffee!! The past week or so (I usually drink tea once I get to work, but coffee has been my beverage of choice the past few days) I have made the first pot of coffee for the day. It was already done and waiting for me when I went into the breakroom. Nice. Even better, it is tasting good. Some people only use the one packet - it just is not enough strength. I add at least 1 1/2 packets. :-)
Today is March 1. I couldn't believe it when I started to write in my journal this morning I wrote 'February..' and I paused, thinking what day it should be. Ok, yesterday was the 28th.... oh my! It is March 1! This year is flying by! Being the first of the month isn't too bad; it's also a Friday which is jean day here at work. Of course to wear jeans it costs us $2, but it is worth it. Well, the $2 is donated to a charity each month so I don't mind at all helping charities out. I wear my jeans and pay my $2. Some times we have 'free jean days' and that is nice too.
What are some ways that you like to be surprised? Some people will say they don't like surprises, but I sure do! Even the little things bring me joy. Things like getting a text message from a grandson last night that showed what he did with his birthday gifts we had gotten him. We had let him choose things he wanted for his room - a lamp, decals, etc. Since this is March already I guess we ought to get over there to see how it all looks; maybe this weekend if we can find time. I have a full day lined up tomorrow already.
Surprises. I know that God's surprises are better than anything. I even was bold enough to ask Him to make me aware when He surprises me. It could be nothing more than getting a phone call, or a text, or mail, from someone I didn't expect to hear from. They may think they aren't doing anything special, but if I wasn't expecting it, then it's a surprise.
It would be a real nice surprise to be told I'm getting a raise. It definitely is NOT expected. Only God could orchestrate it. Hmmmm. No, I'm not due for any raise, so if I did get one, it WOULD be a surprise.
Surprises are fun to give too. Stopping to do something special for someone. Giving someone your undivided attention is sometimes a surprise. Praising someone can be a grateful surprise. And don't patronize when you do it. Write a thank you note. Or just write someone a note. Cook dinner (if you don't normally cook). Just a few ideas.
I can't wait to see what God is going to do in answer to my prayer. And I prayed it not just for me, but for my spouse, my children, and my grandchildren, as well as relatives. Lord, surprise them today. Let something good happen that they may have hoping for and waiting for, or even something they weren't expecting. Surprise them with something GOOD.
My day is starting out with the surprise of getting to work early AND a pot of coffee ready and waiting for me. I can't wait to see what God is going to do next! Not only today, but tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow.... cause I want His surprises all the time.
May your day be full of joy, laughter, good times, and lots of surprises!
Blessings!
