Some of us admins (aka executive assistants) are meeting today for lunch. Sigh. It's nice once in awhile, but the person organizing it is starting to get annoying. They just met a few weeks ago. Does that make sense? She is young and in the party phase of her life. She's planning a HUGE admin/executive assistant/who knows who else CHRISTMAS party on November 7th in the corporate offices. It's to be a 'pot luck' - yet - she has asked ALL of management to donate money to cover prizes and gifts and ..... and I don't want to go. Yet, I know I have to unless I can have a good excuse to get out of it. I don't want to drive downtown to the corporate office. I've mentioned this before. If in Mesa - no problem, I'll do the drive. I know my way around there. I know nothing about corporate. I don't know all the people she has invited to the 'party'. So I lose an hour driving there, be there for 2-3 hours, and lose another hour driving back home. Sure, some days I don't have a lot to do, but many days I have work I have to get done. UGH. Anyway - today we are meeting for lunch - and I really don't want to go today either. I'd rather stay home and work, but I need to be a 'team player' and participate in these things. And I'm sure I will enjoy it. And she talked her boss, the president of our division, into paying for our lunches. And yet, word is out we lost money this year and she is finding ways of spending it. Ok - enough of my belly-aching. WHO is ready for Christmas on November 7th? Talk about moving the holidays up!
Yesterday was a busy day at work but I got a lot done. Still left stuff that I need to start on first thing this morning. I did take a break yesterday and did a quick run to Sam's Club to pick up a few things. It felt good to get out of the house alone. Hubby had left for his heart doctor appointment; they wanted to do some tests. I think he goes back in a couple weeks for the results. He's fine, as far as we know. He stayed home last night and watched Perry Stone at Free Chapel again while my daughter and I worked on our art projects in the kitchen. I have my training appointment (legs, oh joy) at 4:30PM today so we won't be able to watch it live. Hubby says we will watch it after dinner. The live part should be over and we can watch it on You Tube. Perry Stone says he is speaking on something that he has never spoken on before. This should be interesting. I'll watch last night's message later.
I'm actually drawing a blank as to what to write about this morning. Imagine that! What sort of nonsense can I write about?
How about the Amazon Prime days? Are you busy buying things? I'm not. Or let's say, I haven't yet. There is nothing we need, nothing I specifically want, so why buy just because something is on sale? It will be on sale again closer to Christmas. My daughter says she did some checking on some things.... according to what she checked on, a few months ago the price on a couple specific items was one thing - and now it is 'on sale for prime days' but they have raised the original price and then put it on sale. Interesting. But doesn't all the stores do that? Unless it is something you buy frequently and are aware of the prices, the price will get raised without you even knowing it and then when it goes on sale, you think you are getting a 'deal'. It just gives them an excuse to raise the price and leave it there after the sale, right? In all honesty, I have gone online a couple times to see what's 'on sale', but there isn't anything I need nor want to buy. I buy as I think of things for others or we need them. I don't need to wait for a sale. I think last time I did buy a few things. BUT - they don't put books on sale like this!! Occasionally a book that I'm wanting or thinking about does go on sale and I'll get it, if I still want it. I can't help it. Books are my downfall. (In fact, I ordered 3-4 books from Thriftbooks (at least I'm trying to get them cheaper!!) that should be here in the next day or so). I just got a new cookbook in from Amazon that I heard about.
A friend, who is a diabetic, mentioned casually that she bought this cookbook and has eaten of some of the recipes.... they are simple recipes....and her diabetes has finally stabilized. So of course I had to buy it because I have children who are diabetics. I want to cook food that will be good for them. But, their requests are often for the things they shouldn't have. And I make it cause they are adults and if they want it, I'll fix it for them. I'm hoping for some cookie recipes that I can make and send to two of my brothers who are also diabetics for Christmas. If I send things I bake (which I have) they comment about they can only take a bite or two because of their sugar content. Don't want to make anyone sick over my food. Anyway - I bought this cookbook and only skimmed through it yesterday. Want to take a better look at it. It wouldn't hurt us any to eat better as well.
Proverbs 30:5-6 (NIV): Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. Do not add to his words, or he will rebuke you and prove you a liar.
I finished reading Proverbs this morning. Yes, Proverbs has 31 chapters, with the last one being about the 'virtuous woman. But I found many nuggets of truth in the 30th chapter. When we lean in to God and trust Him and His Word, He will be our shield. But we should never add our comments and declare they are His. That's not a good thing. He is our shield, our strength, our protector.
He sure has bailed us out of some tough places, and I truly believe it is because we get on our faces before Him and seek Him, rather than the answers. Sometimes seeking Him is more comforting that getting the thing that we want. Seeking Him changes us. And sometimes that is what is needed.
Matthew 6:33 Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
I have learned over my many years that no matter what I need in life, no matter what I want, it's when I seek Jesus first that I find I have all that I need. I may - or may not - get the answers I want. But even if I don't, if I have Jesus, I have all I need. And so do you.
Blessings!
