Today is the day our group of women in the group "Needles of Hope" meet and spend however long they want to within a three hour period, just sitting together knitting, crocheting, or just chatting. They started back up a few months ago, but I chose not to attend just yet. Last year, before COVID, we were meeting twice a month (I still only went the first Saturday of the month). I wasn't really planning on going today but several months ago a dear old friend died, and his daughter had posted various things on facebook she wanted to sell or give away. Because I love dishes (although I have had to give many away these past six months, I still love them) I had told her that if no one wanted it, I would take a platter she had, plus there were some 'bone dishes'. Now many of you will not know what 'bone dishes' are. My granddaughter does. A couple years ago my granddaughter was in town and helped me go through my cabinets of dishes. I gave her a few things that she wanted. She took the bone dishes I had. If I remember correctly, there were only 7 of them, and I never did find the 8th one. Could be my mother never gave me the 8th one. Anyway, she knows what they are....don't know if she has ever used them. I think I always called them salad dishes or corn on the cob dishes. But I think originally the thought was to put the bones from chicken on them. Oh who knows. Tales of old, I'm sure. Might research that sometime and just see why they were created. Anyway, I am to pick up these items today, so I need to go meet with the group.
During this quarantine I have gotten used to staying home and I must admit I'm in no hurry to go out even yet. I go to the grocery only when I have to, to Costco only when I have to, and when hubby wants us to go out to eat. Other than that, I rarely go anywhere else outside of my daughter or granddaughter's place. I have become a hermit of sorts, I think. I'm grateful I have learned to crochet and knit, otherwise it could be very boring in quarantine. Oh wait, I still have my books! SIGH. But with the TV on most evenings, it is hard to read. My brother recommended a Bose headset... $199 on Amazon... his wife uses it as she is working from home and needs to be focused in these meetings so blocks out all sound. She works off a table in another room; I have the 2nd bedroom so I just shut the door. And, for now anyway, I have been busy crocheting things for Christmas. None for my family (I know, thank goodness, huh!) but for my bosses and other friends. Hubby and I discuss keeping the TV off a couple nights a week. Last night was one of the off nights and I was grateful. I enjoy the quiet, and I worked on my crochet.
I have done 99.9999% of Christmas shopping online this year. I believe I have finished. But the bad part about finishing early is that you see other things they might like and you want to buy them too. But I cannot. I have to draw the line. I still have a few more things coming in, but very few. Within a week I should have everything wrapped and under the tree, ready for the wrapping to be ripped off. I'm not one of these people who make sure the wrapping is neatly put together and a pretty bow on top,. They look nice - but with knowing the paper will be ripped off, who cares? LOL Ok, maybe it's just me.
Just realized I need to still get stocking stuffers for hubby's stocking. We have a very large stocking that we fill for each other. I know I have a couple small things in it.... reckon I need to find my way to the dollar store during the week while others are 'working' and pick up a few things to put in it. There is nothing we NEED and candy is not a necessity. But of course will have to buy him goobers. He actually bought the burnt peanuts to snack on last week - which is totally unlike him. Maybe I will get a bag of those for him as well.
I stayed in bed late this morning. We went to bed about 9-9:30PM - which is late for us - and I slept sound until about 12:30AM. Went back to sleep and slept until 3:30AM. Then 4:30AM. Then 5:30AM when I finally got up. I kept telling myself "It's Saturday, you don't have to get up early!!" but the body doesn't always listen. Part of the reason I keep waking up is that we haven't regulated the temperature in here yet. We have turned the heat on to around 70 degrees, and at night hubby is to turn it down so we sleep better. I have a feeling my thoughts have been ignored and hubby sets it where he wants to set it. Even now, bundled up as I usually am, I'm starting to sweat because I feel warm. I'm sure he has turned the heat on already.
I don't mind cool. I don't mind wearing a sweater all day. It's ok with me. But at night, I really like it when it's cool so that I sleep better. When I wake up during the night, it is because he has so many covers on my side (WAY too many) that I'm kicking all the covers off and have nothing over me until I cool down.
It's like at night when I go to bed, I stick my feet out over the edge of the bed to get them cold before I pull them back in to go to sleep. Anyone else do that? I like being warm in bed (but not too warm) but it cold on the outside. I just sleep much better.
Yep, the heat just kicked on. I think it is to be 39 degrees out this morning, which is why hubby probably has turned it up. I had told him to leave it at 68-70 degrees all the time. Of course during the summer ...............oh, I shouldn't get started.......
Time to get up and get moving. Still have a couple hours before leaving for Needles of Hope, but maybe I'll cook breakfast - that will make hubby happy. Bacon and eggs are his favorite meal, I think.
Blessings!
