I ordered three (yes, three) dresses from Amazon to try on and make a decision on. It's narrowed down to two. Will see how that plays out. I still need to get sandals - or I will be wearing heels (cause tennis shoes just wouldn't 'do it') for the photos. Nothing expensive; something simple. I may run to Walmart this weekend and take a look there. These are times that I really miss Payless Shoes. I bought 99% of my shoes there when it was in existence. We leave for our trip a week from tomorrow and I plan to be ready. Now that I have my dresses, I need to match up a shirt for hubby. That's going to be the fun part but will head to the stores - maybe tomorrow night. Will see.
Although I had bought the dresses already from Amazon, because of my being a 'drama queen' the other night about finding a dress and stressing out about it (yes, I know that was crazy), my daughter and I went to the mall last night - Penney's and Macy's and found nothing. Since I'm going with red, of course all the colors were basically pastel - after all, it is summer, right? Red is red, and although worn year round, not many places carry red all year round. We went back to the daughter's after grabbing a bite to eat at the food court. Sigh. I weakened. We went to Johnny Rockets and I had a vanilla shake. I had to. (cough cough). They carry Pepsi products and I can't stand weak soda. Anyway - it was 'kid size' so I didn't go overboard. I tried on the dresses I have to show my daughter and she liked the two I took with me. Said to take them both. Will see. I am at that in-between stage - you know - too old to dress in the 'junior' section and too young to dress in the 'matron' section. It's a tough road to haul.
My sister called me yesterday to check out a new app and I've been having fun with it. YUKA. At the app store. What it does is you scan a bar code and it tells you if it is bad, poor, good, excellent to eat. My canned chicken from Sam's Club is 'excellent'. I forget whether beans are 'excellent' or 'good'. I checked my sesame stick snacks and it was 'poor'. No added sugar peanut butter is 'good'. What really surprised me was the Comstock More Fruit Apple Pie filling was 'good'. Rotel was 'excellent'. LOL the one box of Girl Scout cookies I have found recently (surely it is the last one!) shows up as 'Bad'. Imagine that. My Javvy coffee that I've started drinking (iced) - the liquids are 'excellent', but the protein coffee is 'poor'. That surprised me. I was surprised to see that Yellow Corn Tortilla Chips are 'good'. Diet Iced Peach Tea is 'poor'. Sigh. Diet Coke is 'poor'. I laughed at this one - I eat Altoids nearly every day - usually on the way to the gym (don't want my bad breath out there) or to church... the Peppermint came back 'poor' but the Classic Wintergreen came back 'bad'. See what fun I was having with that? It's all in moderation though, right? So I tell myself.
But I was glad to see that beans are on the 'excellent' list. I love beans. (and they usually love me) But on Virta, they don't want you to eat them because of the carbs. Yeah, I'm about on my last 'carb-fest' with Virta. I haven't dove back into bread yet (other than the one I had made a week ago), but I'm tired of not being 'allowed' to eat beans of any kind without my glucose going up and ketones going down. I'll finish up the strips I currently have (which I think may be another month supply, but then I'm cancelling it. The company pays for it, I don't, but no since in wasting their money too. I need to check in on how to cancel. One thing this week I have started doing is taking my glucose and the ketones both in the mornings as I sit here. Glucose goes up and down, depending on what I ate the night before, snacked on, drank, etc. The ketones, surprisingly, has been at .2 and .3 - whereas in the afternoons it is .1 most days because of what I eat for breakfast or lunch. I'm not going crazy; I have lost ten pounds; I am making better choices. But daggone it, let me eat my beans! I think the can says 1/2 cup is like 27 carbs - and when you are only 'allowed' 30-35 carbs a day, it kind of sucks that up.
Between doing a leg workout Monday night - squats, lunches, leg extensions, etc. - and walking 12K steps yesterday, my joints and muscles are screaming at me this morning. Got to loosen up - it's core tonight and some of those core exercises really are difficult. And, since I mentioned I want to get rid of this belly fat (which of course is food issue), I'm sure she is going to push me hard tonight. I do have a strong core; I just need to get rid of the fat layers that 'protect' it.
Enjoying a lot less work this week and I did look at the minutes yesterday - but for some reason, was having difficult with bringing up the document so didn't pursue it. Will work on it again this morning so that I can get them finished.
Found out a grandson 'graduated' with his GED and 'graduation' will be next Monday evening about a 90 minute drive or so away. We need to go to support him so I will be asking to take off work early. Don't want to rush to get there but do want to be there. Need to get the 'usual' gift I have been giving to the graduates the past 4-5 years or so. I know I gave all the graduates $25, but don't remember when I started giving them a thermos as well. I've gotten pretty 'solid' about carrying water in the car. The thermos keeps it cool so if something should happen, they at least have water to drink.
Jeremiah 23:24 (NKJV): "Can anyone hide himself in secret places, so I shall not see him?" says the Lord. "Do I not fill heaven and earth?" says the Lord.
How many times have we done something that we wished we hadn't, and probably knew that we shouldn't - and did? Our parents may not have seen us. Our spouse may not have caught up. But the Lord ALWAYS sees us for there is no place that He isn't there. Yeah, we always have 'big brother' looking over our shoulder. LOL Well, that is what some people think. And let them think it, if it will help them NOT do something that they shouldn't do.
I am so disappointed at all the preachers - big name ones at that! - that I have read about recently that gave in to 'secret sins' and now the 'secret sins' have come to light. They haven't hurt only themselves, or their victims, but they have crushed their spouses and their children, their family. No one would intentionally do that, I don't think, and if they could have seen the pain they have caused in advance, I wonder if they still would have done that. What is that scripture that people quoted for the past few years when they wanted to make a point?
Mark 4:22 (:NKJV): For there is nothing hidden which will not be revealed, nor has anything been kept secret but that it should come to light.
There is an old saying of "Your sins will find you out." that I grew up with. Things we think have been hidden from others, often shame us when they come to light. Hmmm I wonder where all that has come from.
And with that little tidbit of information, I think I will go jump in the shower to get started on my day. Hope that you have a wonderful day and make wise choices today.
Blessings!
