Yesterday was a good day. I went to Needles of Hope and resisted the muffins and yogurt covered pretzels that were brought in as snacks. I made sure I ate something before I left home so that I wouldn't be tempted. Yeah, I'm trying to cut back; trying this new 'diet' that isn't a diet. It's more healthy eating and eating much less. It hasn't been easy. I started to reach for a piece of chocolate the other day and remembered and resisted. One piece will lead to another. You know how that goes.
Church today. Where is this year going? We are already in to May. See why I am already picking up little things for Christmas? It will be here before anyone is ready! I have tried to tell everyone that I'm cutting back on gifts this year (of which they laugh at me). And please don't buy me a bunch of gifts. But I will buy a little more for my children and spouses. They are the ones who sacrifice for their children to get nice things for Christmas. I know all about that. But even with that, I have no clue what to get them this year. If money wasn't an issue, there are lots of things I'd love to do. But, alas, I am also trying to rein in my spending (yeah, I know, my new skillet. But it was on sale!!). And there is nothing I need, and nothing hubby needs. He loves going to lunch and movies with the boys. He enjoys reading at times. He has no hobbies. And there is nothing I need; I just want time with my children. Time is something that once it is gone, we can't get back. Suggestion for you if you are trying to figure out what to give to your children .... why not 1:1 time with you? Those are my most treasured times, when I have time alone with my children.
I still haven't used my new skillet yet; in fact, haven't even gotten the lid put together yet (the knob on top needs to be screwed on). I hope to tonight, though. Maybe I will go pick up a nice steak for hubby and I to share just to be able to use it. I stopped at El Pollo Loco on the way home from Needles of Hope yesterday and bought an 8-piece chicken meal and brought home. We ate for lunch and finished it off for dinner. I almost laughed yesterday. When I got home, hubby was watching a movie - yet was asleep in his chair. I brought the meal in and started sorting it out, grabbing a couple paper plates. I don't know if hubby heard me, or smelled the food, but he came running into the kitchen and sat down in his seat; ready to eat.
Oh that we all would run to our Father's table to sit down and eat what He has for us!
I read a paraphrase this morning about the woman at the well. Remember the story in the Bible? (check out John 4) Jesus was sitting at the well in Samaria and had sent his disciples to another town to buy food. First of all, Jesus was in Samaria, a town that the Jews avoided. (Samarians were part Jew and part another race due to years (centuries?) before being displaced; they were not 'true Jews', therefore Jews hated them) But Jesus. He sat down at the well, and waited.
A woman comes, in the heat of the day, to draw water from the well. Jesus strikes up a conversation by asking for a drink of water. Startled, she begins to ask why would He, a Jew, ask her for water to drink. And Jesus responds with what He offers each of us in John 4:10 (TPT): If you only knew who I am and the gift that God wants to give you, you'd ask me for a drink, and I would give you living water."
There is a dialog after that where Jesus asks her to bring her husband, to which she responds she isn't married. He affirms her comment of not being married, but also says that she had been married 5 times and the man she was living with was not her husband! Astounded, the conversation continued and she ran to gather those in town to 'come see the One who has told me all about me!'
Ah, yes, Jesus knows all about you (and all about me!). He knows all the things you have done, all the things you didn't do, all the things you have said, or have left unsaid. Jesus knows it all. And you know what? He still loves you. He still desires to call you His own. Salvation came to the town of Samaria that day, many centuries ago. If you do not already know and worship the One who loves you more than you could ever know, He will give you and your home salvation today as you surrender your life to Him. Will you do it?
Blessings!
