Grateful for Saturday

My mind awoke at 3AM again this morning and would not shut off. I wish it would stop doing that for I am always thinking one of my boys are 'up to something' or in trouble.  Past experience, I guess? LOL I finally got up out of bed a little after 4AM, I think, and came in here.  Thought about going back to sleep, but remembering it was Saturday, decided not to and instead dove into my Bible reading and other things I want to complete. I will do some more reading when I finish this.  I have Needles of Hope this morning and will be stopping soon to get ready to run away for a few hours. :-)

Hubby's appointment went well yesterday and we both really liked this doctor.  He gave us a lot of information, and would often stop and ask if we had questions. I sent a note to my children to update them so don't need to do it here.  Will just say that it went well, hubby feels a lot better about what is happening and we will take it one day at a time.  Blood work in 2 more weeks and then another kidney doctor appointment to determine next steps. We liked that he said he would give the information, but it was hubby's decision on the next step; it would never be forced upon him, which is what a lot of doctors try to do to you (i.e. his prostate doctor).  Now to wait until the 29th when we visit Dr. Mark and find out more about the liver issue.  Apparently the kidney issue was more critical and needed to be addressed first.

Proverbs 27:1 (NIV):  Do not boast about tomorrow; for you do not know what a  day will bring.

Isn't that a true statement!  We can make all the plans we want for tomorrow, but we have no control of what that day will be or what may happen.  Today may be the last day for some of us.  We may not have tomorrow, and we can plan all we want, but if today is the 'last day', then it doesn't matter what we plan for tomorrow, does it?  Something to think about.

So many times we hear people say "tomorrow we will do this" or "tomorrow we will go here" or "tomorrow will be a better day and we can...." .... and yet, when tomorrow arrives, then what?  What if you plan a picnic and it rains?  What if you plan a trip and the car doesn't start?  What if you plan to visit someone and you get really sick and can't go?  See - anything can happen, so don't boast about what you will do tomorrow, but as it comes into 'today', use it for God's glory, that He has given you this day.

With that being said, I wonder how often I 'boast' of things I'm going to do in an evening or a weekend... and something always changes.  Hmmm

I do want to get some baking done this weekend.  Hubby is really enjoying my peach muffins I have learned to make.  Simple recipe that makes 12 muffins.  He has taken to eating one a day so I need to make up a few batches and put in the freezer.  I think we have three large peaches left in the refrigerator and it only takes one per dozen.  I also like to give them away. LOL  Took two to Morgan on Thursday morning and she was looking forward to enjoying them.  I also need to get on my cranberry pumpkin nut bread, and I have also found a recipe for pumpkin nut bread (a different recipe altogether and without cranberries).  I do love to bake.

I love my little sister; you know I do. But sometimes she drives me crazy.  She told me about a year ago that she has had kidney disease for years - and I believe she said it was stage 3.  Well, being at the nephrologist's office yesterday and listening to everything he told us, I asked my sister about her status.  Now mind you, she goes to the doctor very frequently - like every six weeks or so (more or less) it seems. It's always something.  When I asked her if she had seen a nephrologist (because she had not mentioned anything about her kidneys other than telling me she had stg 3 kidney disease) and what was going on.  She tells me last night that she has never seen a nephrologist, AND she hasn't had blood work done for almost a year!  What???  Then how does her doctor know that her medications are working? We know that my sister doesn't tell everything she should to the doctor. I got her to check her last blood tests - back in Nov 2024 - and she said her GFR was 62 (I made her go back and look it up).  That is stage 2.  Hubby's was 62 last November as well - and it dropped to 31 in July, 30 in September.  So is stage 2 ok and one doesn't have to see a specialist?  I suggested to her to ask her doctor about what was going on with her kidneys and should she see a specialist.  Her response back to me?  I kid you not.  "I will ask, but I don't want to be mean."  Seriously?  I will leave that conversation right there.

If I have something going on within me - and it will happen, I am not immune to changes in my body - I will be on the doctor's doorstep asking what is the next step!   How can we fix this?  What are you going to do?  It is our body and we have a right to know how to take care of it when it doesn't 'behave'!  Right?

And, I've recently have had a realization of how I enable my little sister.  Now you know I love to make things and give away.  I love to do that.  But something my oldest son said one time kind of stuck with me.... and although I can't tell you exactly what he said... it made me step back and look at my relationship with my sister.  (erase, erase).  Sigh.  I don't need to tell you things; some of you already have figured that out, I think.  It has to to with 'making her happy' when she asks for things ...and I do what I can to see she gets it.  It's not my problem and I need to stop it.  Right?  I need to start saying 'no'.

Sigh.  I still want to move from here and get my own place.  With a little yard.  And a shade tree that I can sit under and have time with God.  I keep thinking how I 'need' to rearrange things here to make them work... but I know I can't do it when hubby is home cause he drives me nuts.  I need to move my exercise equipment around cause in another month I will be putting up my Christmas trees.  (Last year I had four; this year I have six). I love Christmas. :-)  I need to move things around to fit everything.

Ms. Diane has been moved to a group home. She doesn't know where, but I think I have figured it out. Her daughter has yet to text me where they have moved her.  I don't get her kids. When they see me, they always say how appreciative they are that I check in on Ms. Diane - but then they don't tell me where they move her!   I'll text her daughter later today and confirm where I think she is - and it isn't far from us.  They have weird visiting hours.  Ms. Diane said no evening visits; only during the day.  I need to check that out as nothing was on that website, if I had the right place.  There are ten other people (or a total of ten) in the group home.  It's across from the hospital so I'm not sure what stages these people are.  But I will go see her this weekend, if I can confirm where she is - or I may just go down and see for myself.

And with that - I need to jump off here and start getting ready for Needles of Hope.  It will be good to be out with some women friends and my thoughts on other things.  Hope that you hang out with people you enjoy being with today.

Blessings!
