I picked up my combo boxes yesterday and got an additional 4 cases of strawberries. I'm washing and freezing the majority for our shakes. But, I also have to make stuff with them! So I found a strawberry delight recipe that looked interesting, and I made 4 pans (like 8x9) of it. I also made two strawberry pies - but found out last night I didn't let the liquid from one cook long enough (cause I was fixing dinner and was not paying attention - my fault) - and as I chose that pie to cut last night for us - found out it is all liquidy - and sweet - way too sweet for me. Hubby will either eat it or I will throw it away. The other pie did set up, but if this one was made the same way and is sweet, then that one may be as well. Not sure what to do with it. I want to make more of the frozen desserts today and then start giving them away. You know that's what I love to do.
I also went to donate blood yesterday and was declined. My hemoglobin was 11.8 and for me it has to be 12.5 or 12.7 for me to donate. We tried the other hand - and it was only 12.2 so they turned me down. So I stopped at the grocery on the way back and picked up a few things that I knew we needed.
LOL - our neighbors are out working on their courtyard again. She cut down some overgrown stuff yesterday morning. Which brings me to my subject line. What worked, and didn't work, and yet did work?
I mentioned to hubby last night that this morning I was going to go out early to the garage and clean out my big clutter area in front of the cars. I have 'stuff' there; my two shelving units I bought last year (cheap, of course), have collapsed and things are falling to the floor. I'm lucky that some things did not get broken. Anyway - my thought is to go through the clutter, tear down the shelving unit (plastic) and see what I can salvage to put some things on. I just don't have enough cabinet space so have my crock pots and mixers and other things out in the garage. I need to reorganize and find places in the cabinets and clear the clutter out. Anyway - that was what I mentioned to hubby last night.
Sigh. He immediately pops up with "That's something I can help with! What time do you want to start?"
I tell him possibly 6AM and I knew he would be 'right on it'. But it made me think. He only does the laundry around here, and very few dishes. Yes, I consider him lazy....as I do myself most of the time. But he sure jumped on helping me (making sure he gets input in what I do?). I conceded that he could help; and about 6:10AM this morning I was ready to go out and get started. Filled up my water bottle; was dressed; opened the garage door...............and was met by the sun slamming into the garage. Uh, no. I was going to do early morning before it got too hot.... but.... the sun would be unbearable with it shining right into the garage and then I'd have to wear sunglasses cause I couldn't see. So I suggested to hubby that 'we' wait until early evening when the sun was on the back side of the house. Yes, it will be hot (not just warm, but hot), but it really won't take that long - maybe an hour - hour and a half - to complete the area - if that long. Hubby agreed. So it was going to work, but didn't work out, and it may work out later. There you have it. Stay tuned. So I grabbed another cup of coffee and my computer.
So there is nothing on the morning agenda now - except I will probably fix breakfast now that I'm up and moving about. Whether hubby likes it or not - it may be oatmeal and eggs. Carbs and protein. And lots of water. I should clean off my desk. I do want to get organized. (cough cough) Or clean out my closet. It's a real mess to where I just shut the door when the cleaning people come - there isn't any room for the vacuum cleaner. Yeah, maybe I'll work on that this morning. That will get me started, right? And if I'm cleaning, I'm getting movement in my body, which is a form of exercise - correct? At least with cleaning, hubby won't ask me to go to the gym and then get angry when I say no.
But I also have several containers of strawberries left. I have mangos, pineapple, white onions, celery, huge avocados, and I'm not sure what all I have in the combo boxes - I only emptied one. I need to get rid of them today. My daughter doesn't want - she is busy packing - got to be out of the house by 7/22 and we are gone 7/18-7/21. She's not buying any food nor will she want any extra in her refrigerator. I need to figure out what to do with it. I only know of two people who read this; one periodically and not on a regular basis - but if you read this and want to take some of this off my hands, please reach out. Oh - I also made potato salad last night; just a small batch; but whoever comes today to pick up some things, just may get a container of potato salad, AND a frozen dessert to take with them. Just saying.
Yeah, my 'love gift' is in full swing. LOL
Luke 6:31 (NKJV): Give to everyone who asks of you. And from him who takes away your goods do not ask them back. And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise.
I was thinking about giving (fruit and veggies) away, and here I read this. But look at the second part of this verse. And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise.
Sounds like what we call the 'Golden Rule', doesn't it? But did you know that the 'Golden Rule' did not originate with Jesus? He just put a positive spin on it.
Years before Jesus, Rabbi Hillel was said to have instructed his pupils that they should not do to others what they did not want done to themselves. Jeus just gave it positive content. Interesting tidbit, right? We always credit God or Jesus with the saying, but it did not originate from Them.
So if anyone wants fruit and veggies (potato salad and dessert).... I promise I won't ask for them back. :-) Besides, you can come visit. LOL Hubby would love it. Me too, but I plan to be in the kitchen trying to find new dishes to fix with all this food if no one wants it. Stay tuned - I'll let you know (if I remember) who shows up. :-)
In the meantime - have a wonderful, relaxing day!
Blessings!
