Yeah.... sometimes we all need to stop and evaluate what our attitudes or thoughts are starting to contain. Surprisingly, the need for my attitude check has been revealed to me personally (by God, thank goodness, and not by others!) because of work. Yeah, for a change, it isn't things here at home, nor is it about family. I need an attitude change about work. Work itself is ok.... but sometimes the people I have to work with irritate me. Seriously. And really, it isn't that they do anything or say anything, it is my attitude about what I have to do to help them! Does that make sense?
And no, it isn't my favorite boss. And it isn't even my other boss. It's someone under him that seems to 'ask' me to do things that I don't want to do. Move impossible meetings with 20+ people in it to another date and time - and then complains when the only time I can find it, correlates with their early lunch hour one day a month. Or one of her people. She has 3 people who will either contact me to schedule meetings for them (which isn't a big deal, but I do not support them; they are supposed to do their own meetings but their boss has never told them - and I can't.) Little meetings are no big deal, but when it's a big one and has to be in this time frame and so on... it annoys me. Yesterday, again, it was about the one I wrote about last week and of which I made the snarky comment. Remember that one? She was saying she would need someone to read to her after cataract surgery or something - she is believing she won't be able to see well for two weeks after her cataract surgery (twice!). Yesterday I got the request that I need to order her magnifiers for her monitors so that she will be able to see well after her surgery. These magnifiers are over $100 each - even through Amazon (yes, I checked Staples and Amazon) - and I would hope if I have to order them for her, that she will consistently use them and not just for the two weeks after each cataract surgery. And she has two monitors. So, yeah, my attitude isn't great cause this person forces me to do something I don't want to do. I get it. She has terrible eyesight. But if it was me, I would see how I could make it work myself, not ask the company to remedy my situation. Does that make sense?
I need to change my attitude to one of helping and not feel that she is taking advantage of the company. I get it that her eyesight may be bad, even after the cataract surgery. She has over 200 hours PTO built up - take the time off to get adjusted! (See, there goes my attitude again!) I need to keep my thoughts to myself and change the way I am thinking about it. I need to be helpful and willing to do whatever we can to help her work, not resent that I have to do the work on finding what she needs.
Ok - so there you have it Sometimes even my attitude isn't a good one, and I need to work on it I am grateful that my eyesight isn't that bad. I have cataract surgery next week and although I still will need to wear my glasses, I'm not anticipating any extreme blurriness or if there is some - I'll work through it. I have a magnifying glass nearby that I use frequently when I can't read something clearly. I won't go running to the company to fix my problem. If I need to, I'll take time off work to adjust.
Psalm 139:23-24 (NKJV): "Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life."
Go figure that God would bring that scripture to me when here I am confessing my attitude issues. True, they aren't anxious thoughts, but we both know they are not thoughts that Jesus would have. So what about you:?
If God searched your heart this morning, what would He find? Would He find anxiousness? Would He find anger? Would He find remorse? What would He find if He searched your heart?
Feel that twinge? Yeah there is something that you probably need to confess and ask forgiveness for. Or perhaps just talk out a situation and clarify what was meant. Sometimes we just misunderstand or we are misunderstood.
I know I still have things I need to work through, and when I ask God to purify and search my heart, I need to lay down my defensiveness and listen to what He says. I need to quit justifying what I said or did ... and listen to His voice on where I was wrong and need to change. Sometimes other people can help you 'see' that too. But you have to listen to their words and their heart; not what is being said.
It isn't always the other person who did something or said something TO us... (as in this boss wanting me to take care of her employee)... it's how we perceive what was spoken or done to us. Instead of wanting everything OUR way, and hearing only what we want to hear... perhaps we all need to lay down our attitude and see what we can do to make things better. I just don't want to do the research and order it for her. But that is also my job. But I don't want to because this person is a pain to work with. I need to shake that attitude off. It isn't about me; it's about Jesus in me, and I am pretty sure He would not take the attitude I've had about it.
If we have offended God, I can assure you, we have offended others. 'Point out anything in me that offends you.....'. Sometimes we need to swallow our pride and just do what is right.
Blessings!

Instead of magnifiers to read the screen, maybe just use the 'Control Scroll'? For most programs on the PC, if you hold down the CONTROL key, and use your mouse wheel, you can bring the screen into a different view, and scrolling the wheel the opposite way does the reverse.... just a thought.
I had to try this - oh my goodness! I shared with my boss first - she didn't know it either - and I shared with the other person - she obviously didn't know it either by her response. Thank you!
