I forgot I could sleep in!

I don't know what time hubby got up during the early morning hours but he woke me up with his feet shuffling on the tile floor about 4:40AM this morning.  I quickly got up after looking at the clock and seeing what time it was - thinking I had overslept.  I usually get up around 4AM during the week.  Only I forgot this was Saturday and I could sleep in until 5PM at least.  I didn't realize it until I was here in my room ... and minutes later hubby brought in my coffee.  The shuffling of feet is normal anymore, and I can assume he was checking to see if this bedroom light was on, showing that I was up.  I noticed his office light was on when I walked through the hallway.  But I had 20 more minutes I could have gotten valuable sleep!

We are heading to the zoo this morning to meet up with some family members.  I don't know how long hubby can last.  He doesn't walk much to start with, so I'm sure he will tire quickly.  Plus with the enlarged prostrate...he has to 'potty' frequently.  And he used to laugh at me about having to go 'potty' all the time - but mine was due to all the water I drink!  It should be a fun morning, even if we only stay a couple hours. Looking forward to hanging out with family; happy we were included.  Making.   memories.

The cost of eating out is getting ridiculous and I am going to push more for 'fast food' if we go out, I think.  We went to one of my favorite places the other night and I love their salmon.  It is always fixed perfectly.  When we started going there on a fairly regular basis was about 3 years ago.  Cost of the salmon was $12.99.  Shortly afterwards it went to $14.99.  Last time we were there, it was up to $16.00  We haven't been there for several months - or at least I haven't - and we went the other night.  My salmon was up to $19.99.  No, I didn't get it.  I opted for 'fish an chips' instead.  Fried cod and french fries were good.... cole slaw was edible... but what shocked me when I got the bill was the $16.00 cost for one plate of 3 fried cod and french fries!  I don't see ME going back there any time soon.  Amazingly, the place was packed on a Thursday night.  I know all restaurants are raising their prices because they have to in order to turn a profit.  I just don't like paying it.  Hubby went to breakfast with a friend yesterday and his breakfast was over $16 and that doesn't include the tip!

Of course I am also going to start cooking more.  Last night I grilled hamburgers and fixed tater tots and cooked broccoli.  It probably took less time for me to do that than for us to drive somewhere and order something.  Save money and gas, right?  Leave the eating out for special occasions.  Hubby does like to eat out.... a lot.... not sure what that is about.  He says he is thinking of me (when we go out) by not making me cook because he knows I'm tired.  So.... question... why doesn't he cook a meal?  Yesterday I was really tired.... and he didn't offer to do anything.

Oh - you will get a laugh out of this.  Remember 'us' moving the recliner into his 'office'?  I decided I didn't like it there; it took up too much of the room, but I couldn't tell hubby that or he would grumble about it.  I was wanting to make part of that room a 'reading room'.  Well, that's not going to happen.  Various reasons... one being he has reminded me three times this week that 'this is the only room that is MINE and you are not going to do anything with it".  I want to put the books in title order or by author - oh no, can't do that! It would make a mess and it is his office!  Anyway, back to my story.... while he was at breakfast yesterday, I moved that recliner (by myself!) (well, and God) back to the living room and moved the rocker back to his office.

Then I plugged in his printer.  That is a story that will cause you to shake your head.  He unplugged it back in December but I don't know why.  I have questioned him several times as he prints on my printer, and he just says he hasn't gotten it plugged back in.  How hard is it to plug in the printer?  Yesterday I discovered why he hadn't messed with it.  He didn't have an available outlet.  He unplugged the printer, actually for several reasons.  He has plugged in something else (not sure what) and that took that plug.  Ok - so I find another outlet close by and find an extension cord and get it turned on.  In checking the printer... it is jammed.  It took a little while, but I finally got it unjammed - with papers he was printing in December (they had a date on them).  His first words when he came back to my 'office' after breakfast was 'why did you move the recliner? I could have helped."  Later he saw the printer was on and asked about it. I explained how easy it was to find an extension cord and plug it in.  Clearing the jam was a little more difficult, but got it done.  Some times all I can do is shake my head.

I've been mulling over in my mind about getting a new patio set.  This one is several years old and is really too big for our small courtyard.  So I have been looking online and thinking of buying a smaller set.  Around lunchtime yesterday I asked hubby if he wanted to go with me to look at patio sets.  Of course he did.  So we went over to Home Depot.  I felt the prices were too high for what they had so lost interest and decided ours would still work another year or so.  But, while we were there, let's pick up plants!  My pot have been bare for months.  He has nagged for months that the pots are bare.  So I picked up Blue Agave for the 4 pots in the back (because the HOA says we cannot plant something that requires a lot of water; has to be drought resistant), one for the side pot, and bought flowers to be planted in the ceramic pots out front.  I bet myself $20 and I think I'm going to 'win' it.  Yesterday was Friday.  He had informed me HE was going to do the planting.  Well, it didn't happen yesterday when we got back.  I may be wrong, but I can almost guarantee it won't happen today unless I do it.  I mean, if I get started on it, he will run out and do it, but allow him to do it in his own timing...naw, not going to happen.  Tomorrow is Sunday and it won't happen.  It MAY be Monday before he get around to it - if I remind him.  But I'm thinking I'll bring it up this afternoon after our zoo trip.  Or let him fall asleep in his chair and sneak out the garage and do it myself.

I enjoy working in the pots of dirt and planting things.  I just have to 'fight' him to get to do things.  He insists on doing it... but doesn't do it until he feels too guilty to put it off...or the plants are near death in the pots they come in.  I bet myself $20 he would wait until Monday if I don't mention it.  Will he think of it?  He may... will he actually do manual labor?  Who knows. He does like to steal my joy so perhaps he will do it timely.  Stay tuned on this one.

I know I'm rambling this morning but I need to stop and jump in the shower.  It's going to be a fun day - a nice outing.  Even if only for a few hours.

I Corinthians 3:8 (NIV) "The one who plants and the one who waters have one purpose, and they each will be rewarded according to their own labor."

Of course this scripture isn't talking about material plants, but who plants the Word, but I liked the verse and thought it fit with my conversation.  Whose labor will get the plants planted?  :-)

And with that - hope that you have a great day - it is warming up here and going to be beautiful!  Do something productive today.  Surprise someone by doing something that helps.  Wash the dishes; sweep the floor..... it's the little things.

Blessings!
