In response to my complaining yesterday, and sharing about magnifiers, I got a comment back from my son. Maybe you know this too - or maybe you don't. I certainly didn't know it - and those I shared it with - they didn't know it either!
Ralphd00d says - "Instead of magnifiers to read the screen, maybe just use the 'Control Scroll'? For most programs on the PC, if you hold down the CONTROL key, and use your mouse wheel, you can bring the screen into a different view, and scrolling the wheel the opposite way does the reverse.... just a thought."
And it worked! Who would have thought? I had to run to my computer to try it when I read his post. I shared with my boss; she didn't know it either! I shared with the person that wants the magnifiers, and her boss - one responded "Thanks! That's a good trick!" (seriously!) Whatever. I think it is great cause when I have to look at excel reports and have difficulty in reading some of the lines off the laptop - instead of grabbing my magnifying glass, I can do this to enlarge it enough to see it. YAY! Thanks, Ralphd00d!
I gave up Facebook, Instagram, and Linked In for Lent. I knew I was spending (wasting) too much time doing the scroll in the evenings. Food is easier to give up at some times, but because I couldn't make a decision on food, not even my BBCD, I decided to give up what I was spending a lot of time on. It hasn't been easy. I do use messenger because that is how some people correspond with me. But it has created a few difficulties in holding on to my desire to 'fast' from facebook. Sometimes someone will send me something with a link - and without thinking about it - it takes me immediately into facebook to see what they are sending me - and once I see it changing to that screen, I am scrambling to get off of it. I don't watch their little video; I don't look at what they want me to see. But, I also miss getting to tell people happy birthday as I see their name pop up. But - I can always do it later. If I'm close friends, I've already done it anyway. It hasn't even been two weeks yet... I've got 91 notifications on facebook. Oh well. I'm sticking to my 'guns' and am glad not to waste time scrolling. My time is more valuable and I need to be more selective in what I devote my time to.
I'm even re-evaluating the time I spend crocheting and knitting in the evenings. Just like I've asked hubby to turn the TV off so that we can read more (which, come to think about it, he has stopped doing that...need to remind him). When the TV is on, I crochet or knit. When it's off, I can read. I've gotten behind in my reading... and that is partially why. Can't read when the TV is on. We may have that conversation tonight.
"One of the scariest, most destructive aspects of sin is its ability not only to blind us, but to blind us to our blindness." Paul David Tripp
Recently, as I shared yesterday, I fell into that trap once again. I didn't see it coming, but I did recognize it after the fact. I am sure I am not alone in this. I am persuaded it happens to us more often than we realize. I am reminded of it as I read my devotion. It makes us closed, self-protective, and defensive. It prevents us from learning and growing. It weakens our ability to hear what others say and makes us rather hard to live with and unapproachable. We don't want to believe it when people point it out in us. It doesn't usually go well when they do. We get defensive, and sometimes even angry, when it's pointed out to us.
Yeah, I'm talking about attitude. When we believe we are right to the point to where we won't listen to anyone else, perhaps it is something we need to think about. I don't believe my bosses have ever said anything about my attitude; I've always been quick to recognize when I'm been wrong. But I guarantee you, there are some family members in my life that are quick to point out I have a stinking attitude. (how dare they!) Not recently, thank goodness. But sometimes when I am irritated, things come out of me that shouldn't. I either need to look and hear my words before I put them out in public domain, or keep them to myself. Sometimes it helps just to go off by myself and verbally say what I want to say... yeah, I do that sometimes... and then I've got it out of my thoughts and I haven't hurt anyone in the process. My attitude beats me up more often than anyone else does. Does that happen to you?
2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (NIV): "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God."
When we let those little things - usually the result of our attitudes - create problems, we have Someone who is willing to help us make things right. To change the results, if you will. I'm grateful for my favorite boss, whom I can unload just about anything on. She listens, then rephrases things to where I can see what I need to do to make things right. But I have to go further than that. I have to confess to Jesus that what I did or what I said was wrong and that I need to make it right. Luckily, in THIS situation, I didn't send any emails to the people in question... other than my snarky comment. And it really helped in that the director explained more; gave more information for the reason. My favorite boss totally understood my frustration.... doesn't make it right ... but I can confess my snarkiness to God and ask Him to forgive me for it, and help me to be kind and considerate. My eyes aren't the best; this person's are obviously worse. I need to be more willing to help. (am so glad my merit review was already over with before this happened!)
I'm learning to stop and ask Jesus if it is something I should say or if I need to let it go. Usually He says 'let it go'. That's when I have to battle the ME ... what is more important. My relationship with those I work with... or me getting the snarky words in. Hmmm. Obviously this situation is still on my mind after reading the above. Wonder what the requests will be today. One thing for sure, I will keep my snarky comments to myself, and ask God to help me to respond appropriately.
How's your attitude going? Does this affect you? I'm a work in progress, and Jesus isn't done working in my yet. Be patient.
Blessings!
