We arrived safely to our destination.... and were a bit disappointed in what we found. Not quite like the photos on AIRBNB. When we went to the back yard, the photos showed an open area where one could sit and relax..... we found the chairs - among weeds that some were 18-24" high! ALL>OVER the back yard. We found a few other things and we quickly sat down and sent the rental place a note saying 'this is not acceptable'. Especially for this coffee lover. One K-cup. Period. Two green tea bags. For 3 adults. No teaspoons at all. Maybe 6 folks. Lots of sharp knives though! NO can opener ( I had to use a knife to cut through the lid of the can - remember those days? We had a can of spaghetti sauce and spaghetti last night for dinner. Oh - and only two saucepans. One skillet. Bare necessities. But we made do. Oh, and the kitchen table - it's made of that wood that people carve and think is so lovely. It's not my thing. The knotholes in the table have food stuck in them. So the rental agency is sending someone out this morning to clean the things we found, plus cut the weeds in the backyard. We said we would be gone from 10-1pm to give them time. I'm sure they will need more than that for it is a big back yard.
But - overall, the house is 'doable'. We all seem to have slept fairly well. Well, I didn't; my mind wouldn't shut off last night - plus I had the wonderful surprise of my great-granddaughter choosing to come sleep with me! Not what I expected, but I loved it. I don't get many of these 1:1 moments and I treasure them. We laid in bed and talked for a bit before she finally turned over and went to sleep. I laid awake for a long time; looked at the clock at 2AM; 3AM; 4AM;.... determined I wasn't getting up in the dark and I didn't want to wake the great-gran with a light. So I laid in bed until about 6:45AM and just couldn't stand laying in bed any longer (you know I get up a bit earlier!) Once I got up, I heard my daughter and granddaughter getting up - or rather my daughter climbing into bed with the granddaughter. Then they came in here and woke the great-gran up. Sitting around the table with my one cup of coffee (yes, I got the hot coffee) and eating donuts we chose for breakfast, we tried to decide what we wanted to do today. It's almost 8:30AM now and I need to get dressed yet, but did want to write a bit in here. Have to let you know we arrived safely, right?
Yesterday we did go to three-four antique shops before stopping at the market to get snacks and figure out dinner. I guess we ae going to do one day at a time - thinking pizza tonight. We will eat lunch out. Still have plenty of donuts for breakfast the remaining days. I may pick up a small box of 8-cups just in case they don't bring any today. Seriously - one k-cup for 3 adults for 4 days?
I'm enjoying hanging out with my girls. I've spent a lot of time playing with the great-granddaughter as well. I brought a wooden foldable playhouse that I have made sure the great-gran knows it stays at Oma's house when we return. We have played a lot with it, played Bingo a couple times, and just sat around and talked. The great-gran and I got the giggles last night. I don't normally flip through instagram but was last night and she and I got to giggling over a silly video - I think it said something like "This is what I'm afraid of going to the gym" and there is a young woman squating down to pick up dumbells, then the video changes to a 2 year old picking up the dumbbells and farting. Yeah, you had to see the video, but we both watched it over and over and had the giggles.
Well, I do need to get dressed this morning and get out of this room so that we can decide where we are going first. Found they have a tea place here we want to stop at - and of course the lavendar farm is up here, although they won't be in full bloom until June, I think it said. It would be fun to get some lavandar soap and lavandar tea and other things at the shop. Some things are definitely a tourist trap - I was really surprised at the prices at the antique stores. My square corning ware dish? I saw at one place it had a $42 price tag on it! That's why I tell my kids don't just give away my dishes when I'm gone - they can make some good money off of them!
And with that - I am going tos top and get dressed. Just wanted to update you on where we are up here and what's going on. Hope that you have an amazing day.
Blessings!
