Nearing the weekend

and it felt like yesterday was Friday.  Not sure why it did, but I often had to remind myself it was 'only' Wednesday.  Had several meetings to put together yesterday, but I did nothing else.  And, I really don't have an answer as to why.  I just didn't pull up the minutes to complete.  I didn't work on the powerpoint deck, I did not much of anything else.

My only excuse is that my legs still hurt.  Oh yeah, I did go back to the gym yesterday for core training - and getting down on the floor and back up was very difficult.  I have tried to think as to why my thighs burn like they do - and then last night I remembered.  I 'did' three miles on my rebounder on Sunday.  Yes, I said 3 miles, and I'm sure I wrote something about it.  Then Monday I did all those exercises that I wrote about.  Yeah, I think I really used all those thigh muscles that are hurting - even yet this morning.  Maybe I will take an ibuprofen and see if that will relieve the pain - or rub voltaren on my thighs.  I've got to move around to make them more flexible - the more I sit, the longer the pain will last.  And, for my job, I do a lot of sitting, for sure!

Not much planned for the weekend.  Hubby is getting a haircut on Saturday and I'm getting my hair touched up.  Yeah, my white roots are coming out.  Disadvantage of my hair getting colored.  I should have thought this out before I agreed to it.  My daughter commented the other day about I needed to get my bangs fixed (the person who did them back in May did a very poor job).  I told her I couldn't go to Joe - the guy I have gone to for probably 20 years - because he told me not to get bangs because of the cowlick that I have to deal with (and am dealing with) - and to not color my hair.  Well, I've done both.  So I said "I can't go to Joe".  And she laughed.  Then comments, "You are afraid of Joe!"  And she is absolutely right.  He knew better than I did about not getting bangs now and not coloring my hair.  My bangs are split due to the cowlick, and my colored hair needs to be touched up every two months!  My Christmas gift has gotten costly - to me!  I'm going to start going lighter though, so that I can eventually work it back to my natural color.  It may take a couple years to get it done.  I had a great blend of grays in my hair before this.... wish I had thought it out.  I like the darker and many others do as well - but the upkeep is more than I want to do. You know me - less is more, right?

I had an email from my son this morning asking if I still wanted to make a dessert for their Riders group at the VFW.  Of course I do!  I just need to think what.  He did tell me what the menu was so I need to make something simple and easy to eat.  I could do something like cookies, brownies.... I wonder if cheesecake or pie would work...... oh the endless possibilities I could come up with!  I COULD make white chocolate macadamia nut cookies.... just because that is my son's favorite....  all those things could be simple to eat.  I think I'll be going through cookbooks, trying to make up my mind this weekend.

This weekend.  Labor Day weekend.  And nothing is planned.  Usually we go to a gathering at the daughter's but this year they will be in New Mexico.  I need to remember to go feed the cats and water her plants once a week (her daughter will do it other days).  I still want to get a grill (against hubby's wishes - for some reason he whines ALL the time when we've had a grill in the past; he doesn't want to stand outside in the heat.  No one asks him too, he just refuses to let me do it. In return, he has the heat up way too high and burns everything.  I'm thinking of looking for an electric grill; not a large one, just a small one, and I have one in mind. And then I ask myself why.  I have a smokeless grill that I can use inside the house.  I have a couple of George Foreman grills that I can use inside the house.  I love the taste of grilled meat.  But then, using an electric grill outside is the same thing, isn't it - it still isn't using 'fire' to cook the meat.  Hmm... I guess I need to just let it go.   Maybe it is because hubby tells me 'no' that I keep wanting it.

I finally got some 'real' caffeine coffee yesterday so the cup this morning tasted good.  I usually can drink decaf - but I guess only after I've had my caffeine start in the morning.  I was drinking my iced protein coffee after the decaf so that I could get rid of my headache.  I bought a variety of coffee this time - and we can see which ones we really like.

My thoughts seem to be 'all over the place' this morning.  I talked to Ms. Diane last night and she said that her kids are moving her to another facility next Tuesday, I think it is.  She wasn't sure where - but 'Advanced Rehab' something or other.  She likes it where she is, she wants to stay there.  But her children think she should be getting forced to get up throughout the day and made to walk.  It's just my guess, but I'm thinking they don't think she is getting enough rehab and wants their mother forced to walk before her body can handle it.  Sometimes I don't think the kids care about her - she doesn't - but they are not always 'nice' to her.  In fact, I won't visit if I know her kids are there.  They try to get me off to the side to talk bad about Ms. Diane and I won't have it.  I have even wondered if they are moving her because I have gone up a few times to visit and she brags about my visiting her.  She's close to me and (yes, she lives across the street, but I don't visit there that often) I can run up to see her. I haven't been up since Sunday though, due to my legs.  I was going to go last night but my legs want to buckle sometimes so chose not to.  It's a real excuse.  If they send her to where she was a year ago - she hated that place, didn't like the attendants, and when she laid on the floor after falling out of bed all night long because she couldn't get up and she was yelling 'help' and people continued to walk past her room (the door was open) - yeah, that would do it for me as well.  I hope they don't move her without a valid reason.  Even more so - will they let me know?  Ms. Diane doesn't always know where she is taken so I will have to contact the daughter and ask where, I'm sure.

Luke 6:31 (NIV): Do to others as you would have them do to you.

I feel we often forget what that verse means.  We get so caught up in ourselves and what we want (me included) that we neglect to think how our choices affect others.  For example, I am the only outside person who visits Ms. Diane - if I choose not to visit, she feels lonely and unloved.  I don't think I'm getting proud of myself - I don't always go see her, and I feel guilty, for I know she is lonely. And I do sometimes call and chat, which helps my conscience, but does it help her?  Same with Ms. Vicky, although she does have a couple friends that visit.  She's going on a trip September 4th for a week so I reckon I need to go visit this weekend.  She also says she enjoys my visits.  I do enjoy visiting with them both, but after a day of work, I just want to stay home some evenings.

What about just being kind to others?  Or doing good for others?   Sometimes maybe I need to just sit down and write a note of encouragement to someone.  Do you?  What can you do to get your thoughts off of what YOU want, and on to how you can help others?

I'm not sure where I'm going with all that - but bottom line, treat others as you want to be treated.  Do for others as you want others to do for you.  Whether they reciprocate or not is irrelevant.  It's how you show you care, that is important.

Gotta run - time for a quick shower and work.  Have an amazing day!

Blessings!
