from one thing to another?

I was really struggling yesterday morning, as I mentioned in what I wrote yesterday.  I got past those emotions and began the day.  Hubby and I watched one church service, not Jentezen Franklin as we usually do) and it was really good.  They are doing a series on 'At the movies' which I don't usually like - but this church has always done an amazing job at it.  Yesterday was no exception.  The movie Hacksaw Ridge was used.    Although it had a lot of violence in it, I think I could watch it just for the content of what I saw.  It's a true story of a man named Desmond Doss.

We only watched the one service and then since the box has been in my way for awhile, I finally asked hubby if he wanted his anniversary Christmas gift early or wanted to wait.  (He says I said Anniversary OR Christmas, not both!)  He decided he wanted it early.  I gave him a 'renewed' Acer computer - not knowing Acer is a gaming computer.  So much for buying one on my own.  I was just trying to get Windows on a computer and an inexpensive one (although it still cost me nearly $500).  I set it up as best I could, adding Microsoft 365 and putting the places he likes to go to (bank, facebook, emails, etc.) on as favorites.  We bought an adapter and I have it hooked up to his big monitor.  I bought him a wireless keyboard and mouse to eliminate some of the wires. (anyone need a wired mouse and keyboard?)   I think it is good to go - he was on it only a short while yesterday.  I even kept my patience with him as I explained things for the umpteenth time.  I would tell him to watch what I was doing.... and inveriably he would turn around and see where Sheeba was or be distracted by something else and I had to repeat myself - again.  But I remained calm.

We went out as he wanted to pick up some vitamins he said he was out of.  He wanted a stand for the laptop to keep it cool so we first went to Walmart (where we picked up the wireless keyboard and mouse - he 'let' me buy it all, of course).  He did take me to lunch.  We ended up at Smashburger although we tossed around several different places.  And I tell you what, that single burger and the sweet potato fries tasted so good to me!  They had flavor and taste!  I definitely enjoyed that meal.  After doing that running around we came back home and I got on my laptop - which I normally don't do on weekends.  I forget what I was looking for now but was on different websites (Amazon, Walmart, Ross, etc.) trying to find it.  Must not have been important cause I know I didn't order anything and I don't even remember what it was now.  It will come to me later.

But as I was sitting there, my left eye started burning, like it was dry.  I thought  maybe I was just tired (I was), or it was from reading earlier.   I called my sister and we finished discussing the last week of Elijah so that we can put the book on the shelf.  We discussed what we whated to start next.  She mentioned she wanted to read Experiencing God by Henry Blackaby.  I read/taught that class many times (minimum of 5 times) at church, but have been wanting to reread the book on my own.  So we agreed to read the book and stop at the end of each chapter and discuss it.  Then I couldn't find my copy - went through all the books I could find - and just remembered I forgot to check a stack in the garage.  Oh well, I bought a copy from thriftbooks.com.  It will take about a week to get here.  I basically got it free as I had credit points built up from buying books from them.  They are pretty inexpensive at times. By the time I got off the phone, my eye was watering and continued to water all evening.  This morning it has been bothering me some.  If it continues, I will have to call my eye specialist and see if I can get in to see him  -  unfortunately, he will be in his downtown office today, I think.  Maybe I won't have to go - will see how that eye does.  It's already quit tearing up this morning.

Things will be getting back to normal (whatever that is) today.  The grandson has gone back to his base after putting his dog, Tacco, to sleep.  I guess I have been in denial as I felt Tacco, although having problems, he's had those problems for awhile.  But I also didn't see him that often.  The grandson could see the changes, as did the others, as they saw Tacco much more than I did.  His body was failing, he could barely walk, and never in a straight line, his bones brittle; some organ failure happening.  It was time.  But it still broke my heart when I heard.  Tacco (to me) was the connection to this grandson while he is away.  We still had the grandson 'here' as long as we had Tacco.  In dog years he ws 74 .... isn't it 7 years for ever human years?  He was 12 years old.  Yes, I cried when I heard. I heard that there were a lot of tears yesterday.  It all took me/us back to the memory of having to put down our beloved Marley.  Only 4 years old and she had - I think it was Hodgkins.... lumps all over her body, weak, sick.  That broke my heart.

Hubby and I discussed churches again yesterday.  We know we need to start attending in person and be with other believers.  It's just hard to figure out where to go.  I love the older generation (and I am becoming one of those!) but I don't want to attend where everyone is 'old'.   Yes, I am old.  But I don't think I always act old.  I say always because my grandchildren always kept me young, but being home with hubby 24x7 has made me a lot older than I am.  That's a lot of my struggle... I want to be able to do things and the less I do things, the less I can do.  Anyway - back to churches.... I think we have opted out of the two churches we had planned to attend, for various reasons.  We're looking at a couple others to possibly go to, but will check the messages online first.  I can't believe how slow some of these pastors out here in this area talk... and never get to the point of the message.  Give me substance!!

I think my middle child and his friend comes back from North Dakota today.... not sure when... but I am praying for their safe return.  I hope he had a good trip and from the little interaction we had the other day, it seemed he was enjoying himself, and I'm happy about that.  We all need joy in our lives; something different than normal.  My youngest son and his family is doing a trip to Six Flags, I think he said.  He was in the northern part of the state yesterday according to a facebook post by his wife.  I wrote it all down; they will be back Thursday, I think.  Praying for their safe travels as well.  Just realized all three of my children have been traveling lately.... and I haven't!  Maybe that is why I'm feeling unsettled; I'm not doing anything!  But I am planning a trip in September so will work on that this week.  Tickets are going up so I hope I get the information I need soon!  It will be nice to have dates planned so that I can focus on that.

Psalm 118:24  "This is the day that the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.  How many times have we read or heard that verse, those words, and never take it to heart?  This is the day that the Lord has made.  He created today - and every day.  He created yesterday, but He never meant for us to live there in the past.  He wants us to look ahead, but we are to live in the present. Today is the day He has given us; what will we do with today?  Will we honor Him?  Will we do our own thing?   What will you do with Jesus today?

The past is done; we cannot change anything.   It is what it is.  Today is a new day; live it to the fullest.  Make those changes you want to make.  Begin today to be who God created you to be.  Tomorrow will be here soon enough; make today count.

Blessings!
