I submitted two applications today for a job within one company. Luckily I do have an advantage. I know five people in this company who have management positions. It is good to have and maintain friendships. Not that I would use these people, but they are there and they love me. I have heard it said time and again, it is who you know.
Well, I hate to let people down, but I think it is more of WHOM you know.
Jeremiah 29:11 - " For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
It has nothing to do with what I do, it has everything to do with what He has planned for me. I have applied many places, really thinking that is the job I am to get. Even one with the church. That was one I really thought I would get right away; yet, they seem to be dragging their feet. As I sat in church on Sunday I came to the realization that I want church to be a place I can go to worship - not where on Sundays I would be thinking of things I needed to be doing at the church. It would be hard for me to separate the two.
I have also come to the realization over the years that my 'dream job' may never come about. Why? I don't know other that God doesn't want me to have it. It isn't His dream job for me. And that is ok. There is so much I want to do for Him, and I need to be in that role to do it I think. But, maybe there is another way I can channel that dream, by volunteering to help in other ways. I need to 'just do it'!
I took Marley on a walk this morning. We went a little different route, a little longer walk. She is getting really good at letting me lead her and not strain so much against the leash. She sees me putting my tennis shoes on in the mornings and she gets excited, thinking she gets to go on a walk. It is still too hot to get her out for long past 8:30AM. Hopefully within a couple weeks the temperature will drop more and I can take her out more.
As I think about that walk, and that I took her a different and longer route, I think of the path my life has taken. For years I stayed in the same path - get up, go to the same job location, do pretty much the same job, come home, do whatever. I took a different path last October when I took early retirement. I have played, vacationed, done things I wanted to do - and now it is time to again take a different - and longer it seems - route. If I get one of these jobs, it is 22 miles from home one way. But that is ok. God will always provide what we need to get me there and back.
Our lives are journeys and our decisions determine which direction they are taking. We can become stalemate and do nothing; do little and accomplish little, do a lot and accomplish much, work hard and achieve lots. It all comes down to our attitudes, our decisions, our choices, our actions. "It is what it is". And it comes down to the question.... 'do we want to change our lives?' Do we want to stay in the rut we have allowed ourselves to fall in, or pull ourselves out and move on?
Key thought is do we do it for the money, or for the love of what we do. My sissy and I had this discussion this morning. She is a CNA and it is very hard work. She goes above and beyond what she is asked; I know her and I know this is what she does. However, what I didn't know before, is that a CNA really doesn't make that much money. And she has to travel to different homes to take care of people. Personally I don't know how she does it. I do know I couldn't do it. Not that I don't care about people, it is too much for me and I am not made that way. I couldn't bathe someone else and help them that way. That isn't how I'm wired. But my sissy is and I am so proud of her for following her dream of being involved in a nursing sort of way. In fact, she shared a couple weeks ago that a lady she had just finished bathing and getting dressed suddenly collapsed and she had to perform CPR and call 911. The lady survived and is fine. Sissy was drained from the ordeal, which was to be expected. But she saved this lady's life. I am so proud of her.
I know whatever job I take now will be less than where I was before. But my confidence is in God and I believe that He will give me what it is we need to survive. We will need to tighten our belts and Christmas will be slim pickings, and that is ok. I can't think of anything any of my family needs that they can't get for themselves. I try to find a special something, and I will try to think of those things again this year; just can't do much.
No matter what I do, or where I go, I know that my life is in His hands. I have entrusted my future to Him, I pray that He will guide me and direct my path and provide whatever job He wants me to do. I will give Him my best. That is all He asks.
I think that is what I love the movie 'Facing the Giants' and enjoy watching it often. It reminds me to give God my best and leave the rest to Him. If you haven't seen that movie for awhile, rent it. We all need the reminder to trust God and leave it in His hands.
Blessings!
