Saturday busyness and planning ahead...

I awoke about 3:20AM this morning and could not go back to sleep.  Finally arising about 3:30AM I came in here and tried to sleep, and could not.  I think part of my problem is that I was so cold yesterday, I asked hubby to turn on the heat.  It was 67 degrees in here, and he still had it set to 'cool'.  And occasionally I could feel the air on.  Now I don't understand how that works; to me, if you have the temperature set at 72 degrees, whether you have it on 'cool' or 'heat' - shouldn't it just stay at that temperature?  But here it was at 67 degrees, still blowing cold air.  We had the A/C guy out last week to check everything and it's all working.  He did replace one part - it was 15 years old - but our warranty covered it. We just had to pay the $65 service call.  Anyway - hubby switched it from cool to heat at my request - and I think that is why I woke up this morning so early - I was too warm, and my mind started thinking about things I needed to get done.  Anyway- thought of that cause the heat just came on and I'm kicking my covers off that I have on in here every day.  Need to tell hubby to drop it down again.  I know he doesn't mind turning it down; he is always hot and sweating, I'm always cold and curled up in blankets.  I like 'cool' when I'm sleeping, buried under covers.  I don't like 'cool' when I'm sitting here in this back room!

Saturday.  The day we try to cram everything in, right?  This morning, I must finish up the message that I will be sharing tomorrow on gratitude.  I have already gone through what I have this morning and made a lot of changes, deleting some things and adding a couple stories.  I will probably just about need to retype it with all the changes I made.  And I will probably make more changes tomorrow before we leave. That's just what I do.

Hubby surprised me yesterday.  He asked me, after we had watched two Christmas movies, if I would like to put up our tree Sunday afternoon after church.  My heart leaped. I thought I would have a battle putting it up before Thanksgiving.  But, alas, I had to tell him that we may not be able to.  I mean, we can get the things out of the garage and ready to put up, and I can probably even work it in, but I have a birthday party to go to tonight and tomorrow after church.... I bought us tickets to go see 'The Best Christmas Pageant Ever' tomorrow afternoon.  If we get things out of the garage today, or even tomorrow after church, we may have time to put up, and if not, that should really put us in the mood, right?  I was just surprised he brought it up, although I have said a few days ago I am really wanting to... and I saw a meme that said 'People who put up their trees before Thanksgiving are happier people'.  Works for me!

I love Christmas.  I love celebrating Jesus' birth, which is what Christmas is all about.  But I also love to give people gifts.  I love to see their faces light up when they are surprised, or excited, about something they received.  I always try to find that 'something special', and it's rare that I can 'hit it on the mark' of surprise.  Grateful when I can.  Granted, these are just material things that will fade away, get lost, or destroyed over time, but memories will last a lifetime.  And it is the memories that I hold dear.

Galatians 6:9 (NKJV):  and let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.

This doesn't mean that we should do good to others and expect a reward from them.  That defeats giving or doing good for them.  Doing good is what we do because we want to give from the heart.  I don't give gifts so that I will receive back.  I give gifts because I like to bring joy to others.  Ms. Diane has been on my mind a lot this past month.  So has Ms. Vicky.  I've become a hermit of sorts since my 'disagreement' with Ms. Diane.  I need to call Ms. Vicky today as our landscaper is coming out to trim my lemon tree and pull weeds.  Ms. Vicky has a lot of weeds so want to see if they can be pulled.  In both respects, although it has been a couple months of my visits, neither of them have called me.  Right now my time is limited that I can actually take an hour or so to 'visit'.

I did finish my last crochet project I planned to do right now - and got a few rows completed on the quilt I'm making for my oldest great-granddaughter.  Then I have two others to put together.  This one is my priority for right now.  I still need to go purchase lace for the sides.  This one is special.  Sewing by hand does take longer, and I can pray over it as I sew.  That makes it even more special to give.

Sometimes doing 'good' for others does become tiresome, especially when they don't seem to appreciate it, but have their hand out all the time.  I actually know of some people who only want you in their lives for what you can give them. They may say 'thank you'... but their actions show that they are only for what they can get.  That's when my stubbornness comes out and I tell myself that I'm not going to do it anymore.  And yet, when I see they have a 'need', I want to help.  But then, I see they didn't have a 'need', but only wanted to whine about what they didn't have. And after I give, they go buy a bunch of things they really didn't need.  In those times it is like 'I give up'.

I need to get this message retyped and jump in the shower and get breakfast fixed this morning.  And, since I'm starting to ramble, I'll shut up.  Hope that you have an amazing day, full of love, joy, and special memories.  Make good memories today; only those last a lifetime.

Blessings!
