The admins had a 'Thanksgiving/Christmas' gathering at one of our offices yesterday and I was invited. I may have mentioned it a time or two - I didn't really want to go and drive that distance. I would know only three and maybe four people out of the many that would be attending. Why? Because I worked in another building, and all these worked in the same building. And that's ok. I was originally supposed to make turkey, dressing, and giblet gravy and take... and last week as I continued to think about it... realized it was way too much work to accomplish before 10AM and changed it to a 7 layer salad. But, before I made that decision, I had bought a small wagon to carry the food from the parking garage to the building. I had bought thigh-high Christmas socks to wear for the 'silly sock parade', and I had purchased a 'white elephant gift'. Something did come up that needed my attention, and I sent an email to my peers that I am close to and advised I wouldn't be attending. They were all ok with it. And believe me, I had plenty of work in place of partying and being gone for 4 hours! I was so busy I didn't even break for lunch - which really isn't unusual, but this time I was working with a lot of 'outside' folks in scheduling meetings. It was a busy day and the time flew by fast. I would have not liked coming back home to all these emails I had to deal with in the time I would have been gone. I think I'm caught up - or was when I turned the computer off at 4PM. I had 17 messages this morning, the last time I looked, which means it came from the 4PM-5PM stuff. Oh well, part of the job, right?
I am trying to stay off of facebook for I spend way too much time scrolling through things and I don't even know some of these places of business that advertise, let alone people who have somehow befriended me and I don't know how. If I don't know them, I don't accept. Anyway - trying to stay off of it, but I did check yesterday at 'notifications' and saw that I had one my son had posted some time before. I didn't look at the date, but it has to have been several years ago. It was about them coming over to the house for chili dinner. It brought a smile. As it has gotten cooler out, the thought of chili sure sounded good! I thawed out the hamburger and made up a batch - to discover I was out of tomato juice! Can't have chili without tomato juice! So after my workout, I stopped at Bashas and walked up and down the aisles until I found the large cans. The cans are usually on the bottom shelf at most stores, so I kept missing it - finally saw it on the 2nd shelf. Who would have thought?! And the price was $3.19 or $3.79 - I don't remember - but I do remember paying $.99 for it several years ago! Inflation for sure! Came home, added it to the other ingredients - added tooooo much cayenne and chili powder (well, just enough you know it is there!!) and yummy! We enjoyed chili last night = and there is plenty left for a couple more meals, although we will probably just eat it tonight and it may go in the freezer Saturday .... unless someone stops by and wants a bowl of it. Just saying.
I've been dealing with the 'want to put my Christmas tree up' the past few days. I've never put it up this early, usually the day after Thanksgiving. But, with gifts piling up in here (and hubby reminded me yesterday that I had said I was cutting back...... and I stammered something that I don't remember totally about my kids and great-grands come first... lol. I don't think I'm going to have time to do it this weekend. I need to move my exercise equipment to the garage (and prefer to do it by myself); I need to move the great-grands bookcase into the exercise room to make room for the tree that goes there. This is where I realize 'I have too much stuff!'. But I'm running out of room to put gifts in this room. If I get my tree up, then I can wrap these and get them UNDER the tree and out of here. Plus, I can start my list of what I have already purchased....cause I have no idea of what I bought for whom!! At least my little sister and I have made a commitment to just buy each other a cookbook. I think I told her to buy me a crock-pot cookbook. I have one or two, but a new one is always good to find good recipes in. She wanted soup and sandwiches. I have the soup one already, and ordered two sandwich cookbooks for her yesterday, which will arrive Tuesday. Two? Yeah, couldn't decide which to give her. If one if 'complicated' sandwiches, I know she won't use it so I'll keep it. She often says that I got the 'cooking genes' and not her. Every time I tell her I have made a really good dish, she says her husband should have married me for she doesn't cook like that. Uh.... no thank you. I have my own! LOL
Joshua 24:15 (KJV): And if it seem evil to you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom you will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell; but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
I saw a short clip last night about a woman walking about this gorgeous house. She was smiling and looking all around the house and the comment on it was something like "when you finally get the house you've always wanted....." and then there was a trumpet sound and POOF! She disappeared and all that was left was her clothes on the ground! Reality can quickly set in, can it not?
All the things we hoped for, all the things we have dreamed about - mean nothing when the trumpet sounds and Jesus Christ returns. Can you imagine talking on the phone with someone and you hear this loud noise and all of a sudden the other party isn't on the line anymore? Or how about having dinner with your spouse and family, the trumpet sounds..... and either they are left staring at your empty seat... or you are there staring at their empty seats. It's a comforting thought - and yet a scary one, isn't it. A former pastor once spoke on this very topic and he asked the question...... "who would you call after the trumpet sounded... and you were still here?" Would someone be calling you?
I have a book that touches on this in a fictional way. I read it years ago. I ordered an extra copy to share a few months ago, but I neglected to change the shipping address from my sister's (because I had sent her something and her address was still on top) instead of to me. She kept it. She wanted the extra copy. No big deal. I'll go and eventually order another copy. It's fictional, but it is a great book on what it could look like. The book? "The Bema". My family/friends can ask to borrow it; I'm ok with that - or you can buy your own. I've read it two-three times over the years. A constant reminder that we need to put Jesus first in our lives. His Word is the final Word.
Need to get up and get the computer going for work this morning. Hope that you have an amazing great day. Listen for the trumpet to sound - are you ready to 'rise in Christ'? You can't plan it. You can't decide when. Our job is to 'be ready'.
Blessings!
