what it was that I wanted to share with you and forgot. I talked with our former neighbor, John. Finally. I think it was on Tuesday, or it might have been Monday. I don't remember which now. Anyway - I had called John with no response. (Still haven't figured out why he wouldn't answer my call) Then, I got another call from Vivent, the alarm company, and recognizing the state (UT) that the call was coming from, I answered. They said that the burglar alarm was going off. Just had a thought as to why John wasn't answering... I bet he wasn't wearing his hearing aids and his hearing is really bad - it's possible he didn't hear the phone, although he could see that I had called... Well, I called John again, still no answer. I go to hubby's phone and Vivent had also called him - but because he didn't recognize the number (still), he didn't answer, nor did he listen to the voicemail. I go back and determined, I called John a couple more times - and he finally answered. He said the old alarms had been going off in the middle of the night (some are over 30 years old) and waking him up, so he has been ripping out the alarms. THAT's why the medical and panic buttons on the alarm system had gone off - those are the ones he ripped out first. He just finished with the burglar alarms - he said they are all ripped out and in the trash now. So - we shouldn't get any more calls.
I asked him how could we set something up so that if something happened to him, we'd hear about it, or does he want us to be listed as a contact and give us his sons' information so that we could call him. I don't know if he heard much of our conversation; he kept talking over me, saying he will be 80 this year; he is healthy and is doing very well. Appreciated the call, but he's doing fine and now that the alarms were pulled out - he won't be awakened by the alarm going off. I'm going make a note that we need to find a time to meet with him face to face and hear what his plans are for notifications or whatever, should something happen to him. I'm really concerned about us hearing if something happens. He was our neighbor for over 25 years.. I care about him, even though hubby doesn't.
I met up with my boss for breakfast yesterday morning and we had a nice chat. Traffic is getting really bad again - it took me an hour to get there - when it normally takes 45-50 minutes. She said it took her longer too. Even when we met last month, traffic wasn't this bad. Perhaps it is superbowl traffic - or not. We had a nice breakfast - sorta. I should have stuck with my oatmeal. O.M.Goodness... I thought I'd try something different. I'd watched movies in which the women had 'avocado toast' for breakfast. I thought, when I saw it on the menu, why not? I would try it. Now I can eat avocado in guac... and sometimes I can eat it in my salads. But never again will I ask for it on toast. They took a 1" slice of bread, toasted it, and piled at least a quarter of an avocado on top of it, and sprinkled red pepper flakes on top of that. (I also got two eggs with it). There were two slices of toast with avocado. I managed to get one slice down.... but the second slice I had to scrape the avocado off.... I could not get it to go down. And all day afterwards I was just feeling that avocado in my stomach. You know that feeling, you managed to get it down, but it didn't feel like it was going anywhere afterwards. No, I will not be trying that again.... but hey, at least I tried it! I'm just not that big of a fan of avocados - in spite of the fact they are very good for you. Yeck.
We went out to dinner with friends last night and I had chicken and waffles at Black Bear Diner. We enjoy eating there on occasion. I couldn't eat it all so one of us will have it for lunch today. I think I need to eat all bran for breakfast to ensure that avocado gets out of my system. LOL It was very good. The chicken and waffles, not the avocado.
This is my last day at work this week. Yep. I discussed with my boss yesterday morning and told her I was flipping back and forth on taking Friday or Monday off ... I'm just tired. Mentally as well as physically. I think I'm just needing a break. She said whatever I wanted to do was fine - so I decided to take BOTH Friday and Monday off work! We have lunch Friday with our friends from the RV park = now I don't have to keep an eye on the clock. I can perhaps even make it to the gym and see if I can find information on a personal trainer so that it will MAKE me go to the gym for awhile.
Saturday we will head to Tucson mid-day. So looking forward to this little getaway, although it is just overnight. If anyone has anything that needs to go that direction...we could probably take it with us... maybe I can get to the store and pick up something for the little one... can't wait to see her and hear "Oma, come play with me!" that I heard the last time we visited. Sunday we will return, and I'm not sure what we will do Monday. I'm thinking I need to get out of the house - alone - and do some 'window shopping' for furniture and continue playing it out in my mind on what I want to do. Hubby will resist in some things, and give me flack, but he knows he isn't paying for it so will give in. He doesn't know yet that I'm taking Friday off, nor Monday. I don't want HIM making plans for ME (aka 'US'). I know I don't want to spend my days off sitting in front of the TV, nor sitting and crocheting or knitting! I hope to get a lot of walking in - and movement - and just DOING something different.
Hubby asked me why I didn't schedule us going down Friday and staying the entire weekend. I told him why - $$ on the hotel bill. What I'm paying for one night is what we'd pay for two in the summer. So what does he say? Well, I could have paid for Friday night. Yeah right. Naw, let's leave it like it is. Maybe, if I find something, he can pay for Sunday night at another hotel if I just don't want to come back here. Will see. Not sure how much I will be typing in here, but I plan to take my computer ... hubby thinks I write in a journal on here. Not going to tell him otherwise.
Glanced at emails this morning and saw a friend passed in his sleep the other night. Brad Gailey. Don't know if my kids remember him or not. He was a good man. We knew him from the church we had attended then.
My watch tells me I have hit my sleep goal.... whatever that is... but then it also tells me I have a sleep deficit of 9.9% Whatever that means. I feel like I slept well last night - until hubby got up at 11pm something and shuffled across the tile hallway. His shuffling wakes me up nearly every night. I went back to sleep eventually, but started waking up about 3:30AM ... which, after glancing at the clock and knew I had at least another 30 minutes... I dozed off and on. Finally got up at 4AM, as usual. I know you really wanted that information.
Ok - I'm rambling now.... I'm reading a book I read years ago... and I just may have some things to say about it when I finish this little book. It's on John 15. Curious? Look it up and read it. I just finished chapter 3 this morning and the things it shared I see in some people's lives.... and why things are the way they are. I'll elaborate another time, if I don't forget. I have one last sermon to give this season - it's next month... and I'm doing it on this passage. Take the time to read it, then perhaps you will understand when I share some things. Better yet, read it and ask God what is He saying to you through it? You may be surprised.
Ok - I'm off here today - nothing but ramblings again. So ready for a few days without work. But, got to get through today first!
Blessings!
