One of the departments that I support is having a meeting today in our Mesa Corporate office. I am invited. Actually, I don't think I was in the beginning, but I let it be known that if my two people I support in this department were going to be there, I would drive down and bring their Christmas gifts. WHAT do you get for a male boss you have only seen perhaps 5-6 times in the 18 months he has been with the company? I don't know him very well. I know he is a Mormon, and his wife is an excellent baker. Yeah, that can create a problem for me... the baker part. You know that is what I generally do at Christmas time - bake and give it away. Well, guess what. I made him a jar of bread n butter pickles, a jar of salsa, and he'll get a small loaf of my cranberry pumpkin nut bread. It's the thought, not the gift. As for the other person I support in this department (not my favorite boss; I meet up with her on the 23rd) I have a blanket I crochet'd on for the last two years; thanks to COVID. Every Sunday we would watch Jentezen Franklin and I would sit and crochet. I don't know of anyone who would want it; it's made of cotton thread, so I think I will give it to her. Not sure what she would do with it either, but, am giving it to her with a jar of pickles, a smaller jar of salsa, and bread. Hmmm that means I am giving to the person that supports my big boss more than him... Oh well. It is what it is. Hope he doesn't get offended. I'll have to think about it. Maybe I shouldn't give it to her. Anyway - long story short, I'm going down today - and I will get to 'play' away from the work computer for about 3-4 hours today.
Oh my, am I ever rambling this morning! I just deleted two long paragraphs of blah blah blah. Work stuff. Gripes and complaints. Aren't you glad I deleted it? :-)
I made a run over to Trader Joe's yesterday and picked up some of the Almond Danish that I love. In fact, I may stop by there again on my way down to the office and pick up for my two bosses. $8.99 is much better than my having some shipped to them for Christmas. There was still a lot there yesterday - hope there is today as well. If not, no big deal. They will get what I bring. They ordered sandwiches for us for lunch - even I got asked what I wanted. :-) But guess what I'm having for breakfast!
I worked on this room yesterday to move about some. Got the bed cleaned off and the Christmas bedspread put on it. Moved some empty boxes to the garage. Found some things I thought I had lost. Realized once again I haven't bought as much as I thought I had for some. Realized I had overpaid JCP on my card, so went in and ordered hubby a couple things to offset it. Made the pickles and salsa last night. Didn't make cookies for the cookie exchange. I was going to, but then got to thinking how I really didn't need to bring cookies home (of course I would have to)... so I didn't bake any. Got hubby to leave the TV off for awhile and it felt good to just chill in the quiet. He wanted to watch a movie, but we didn't......
Acts 15:31 (NKJV): "When they had read it, they rejoiced over its encouragement."
Have you ever read a book or an article that you felt encouraged you? It often happens to me, which is why I frequently refer back to these books whenever I write. I even re-read some books because they are such an encouragement to me. Some of my devotionals, well, I can't tell you how many times I've read through them, and I get something out of them each time. They encourage me. They clear my mind of distraction. They give me food for thought. And, they feed my hungry soul to figure things out. Ever read one of those books? Now all the books or devotionals I read don't do that. But there are some that make an impact on me and I continue to read books by their author. Some continue to impact my life, some not so much. It isn't the author, it's what is written in the book that grabs me. Books I've read years back - other than the Bible, which influences me the most - The Circle Maker; Draw the Circle; not a fan; Secrets of the Secret Place; Aha; Double Blessings these are very few of the books that have influenced and encouraged me over the years. And most are some I have read at least 2-3 times, and some more. I go through a couple of the devotionals at least twice a year. I get encouraged each time.
Books are a good thing, and I know some of you will agree with that. I just don't get into the romance books (although I do love good clean romance movies). I can probably guess at the reason I don't. I can remember when I DID read a romance book... ah.... not going there. It was a long, long time ago.
Today is my daughter-in-law's birthday. And tonight is my grandson's last band concert. I reminded hubby of the concert last night. Hope I don't forget her gift... it has become a bit of tradition to get her a Christmas t-shirt.... after this year will see if she has enough. One can never have too many Christmas t-shirts, right? I also want to remember to take a shirt I bought for a 'grandson-in-law' that I've been told would be too big. He is big and tall, but I ordered the size that I should get in regular sizes. Ooops. Will see if it will fit my son... if so, he can have it. It should be longer on him than his t-shirts are now. But looking at it, I think it is too big for him as well. Oh well, will let him try it on and see. He may not want it.. I think it has long sleeves. But we ARE having cool mornings lately. In fact, my computer says it is 44 degrees out.
Need to hit the shower and figure out what I'm wearing to the work meeting/party. Guess I can't wear my 'Jesus is the Reason for the Season' t-shirt. I guess I'll opt for the one that just reads Merry Christmas. Only I'll have it mostly covered up with a sweater, so it really doesn't matter, does it? But I will be working only about half a day today. Which is kind of nice.
Ok - enough rambling. Find something that will encourage you today. Read something up-lifting and encouraging, so that you can encourage others. May our lives be an encouragement to others.
Blessings!
