Remember my allergies that developed into a cold... I still have some coughing on occasion, but it's basically under control. But now, hubby is hacking up a storm. He doesn't have the sneezing, so I'm guessing he has an outright cold. I've been telling him to take what we have on hand... the drug stores are about out of everything for colds. I may take a run down there again today and see if I can't find nyquil so that he can sleep at night and not wake up coughing all the time. I slept in this room last night and I think he only woke me once in hearing him cough.
I have to share this, for it cracked me up yesterday... but I did keep a straight, concerned face. I think. He usually will quick staring and reading his computer around 2PM and go put on the headset (best purchase I ever made), turn on the TV, and soon falls asleep for an hour or more. Yesterday, he comes to me while I'm working and says, "I'm sorry to do this to you, but I didn't sleep well last night, so I'm going to put on my headset and sit down and see if I can't fall asleep watching TV." Unfortunately, when I went out a little later, he tells me that he hasn't been able to fall asleep; he wasn't even sleepy! Of course that may be due to all the medication I've given him to keep the coughing at a minimum. Anyway, I thought it was funny.
I bought myself a new kindle fire yesterday. It's actually a kindle fire/tablet. I bought it because my kindle fire has decided it doesn't want to hold a charge. Even if I charge it all night and it gets to 100%, if I take if off the charger, and use it for anything, it is down in the 50% range before I put it away. This past week I couldn't even bring it up without having the charger on there for about an hour...then it would be a thin red line for battery. I think it is only about 3 years old or so. But this time I bought the 2021 model as they had it on sale, plus it has office on it. So I bought the keyboard case that I could use with it. Now to figure out how to connect the two. I tried last night, and gave up. I will have to read about it. It would be easier to have than dragging my computer when we go somewhere. Not that we go much of anywhere anymore. I'm debating on keeping the keyboard or sending it back, though. The bad part is my words with friends didn't automatically transfer over and I am needing to move the games from one kindle to another. Don't know how to do that, so keep the old one plugged in and play my games as I can, and create new ones on the new kindle. I have to have my kindle - look at all the books I have on it! Several I haven't read yet - and I do want to - when I can find the time! I thought about waiting until Christmas, but don't think any one would buy one... of course they don't know this one is going out either.... but I chose to buy myself my own Christmas gift. So I'm happy. :-)
I did manage to get 4 jars of pickles made last night, and need to get more jars. I'm hoping to make a trip to Winco today and pick up a couple quarts and a pint case. I have about 12 jars of salsa to make, I'm thinking; my neighbors will get a pint, but my grandkids get a quart, if they even want it. Some specifically ask for it; others don't, so I don't always know if they want it or not.
I've decided to take tomorrow off work and get some returns taken care of. I need to make a run to Penneys, to UPS, and to Kohls to return things. It's not fair to ask hubby to do it - especially since he is now sick. AND, I need to get more packages in the mail; I need to make cookies for the cookie exchange and get those in the mail... so I just decided I needed to take a day off work to get it all done. Oh - plus, I'm to have lunch with a co-worker tomorrow - which prompted the day off. I have too much going on right now. I want to get everything done now so that the last week before Christmas I can just chill and do things I enjoy.
I speak this Sunday at the RV park north of 'town'. Luckily, I can use the one I did the other week at the RV park here in town. But then I need to get busy on the one for New Years Day. Am grateful that the person I covered week before last is taking Christmas Day so that I don't have that on my plate too. But I do have New Years' Day, then nothing until February, I think.
I Thessalonians 4:10-12 (NKJV): "and indeed you do so toward all the brethren who are in all Macedonia. But we urge you, brethren, that you increase more and more; that you also aspire to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you, that you may walk properly toward those who are outside, and that you may lack nothing."
I like the above scripture because it sets us apart from the world. We are to aspire to lead a quiet life (one without strife and difficulty), to mind our own business (keep your nose in your own stuff; no one wants your opinion); work diligently with our (minds) hands. And why is that? So that those who see us, know that we belong to Jesus, and that we lack nothing.
There are some Christians who feel they need to 'share' what they think - whether right or wrong - and whether or not you ask for it. Yep, there are some like that! And I probably fall in to that category at times as well. I try not to give my opinion unless asked, but sometimes... ya just gotta tell them to stop and let it go. Right? I probably need to do more of 'minding my own business'. So how are you doing in this category? I think I do pretty much have a 'quiet' life... we certainly don't do much. I work with my hands (ok, I type)... and God has blessed us abundantly where we lack nothing at this time. I'm grateful. And I try to help others when they have a sincere need. Last year I donated to different organizations in December, such as The Salvation Army, Wounded Warriors Project, Habitat for Humanity - because I can see how they truly help people and the money doesn't go in the pockets of the executives. It annoys me when I keep getting mail begging for money.... I have, in fact, found a couple other causes that needed some funds so was able to give to them a little. I want to give as God lays it on my heart, not out of 'duty' and 'guilt'. Know what I mean? There have been many years I haven't been able to give anything; but when God lays it on my heart to do it... I can't say no, even when I think I don't have it. God always provides.
I'm still in the middle of reading Job... and Elihu just started giving Job his 'opinion'. Read it - it's really an interesting book. And, did you know JOB was written BEFORE Genesis was written?
Today I'm back to work... and am taking tomorrow off. I woke up this morning thinking this was Wednesday... and wishing it was... but alas, I still have to work today. My sinus headache is rearing its head this morning... this crazy weather sure saps the energy at times.
I'm reminded of John Wayne in The Quiet Man movie. Remember that one? I haven't watched a John Wayne movie in years. Where did I find the time before, that I feel I do not have time now? I used to stay up until midnight cooking and doing things for Christmas... now if I can't get it done by 8PM, I don't start it. I think I have gotten lazy! Boo!
Hope you are doing well and keeping healthy.
Blessings!
