When you are broken.....

That is a song sung by Lindsay Haun in Broken Bridges, which we watched last night (again) and which registered in my mind when I woke up during the night and again this morning.  I "slept in" until 4:45AM!  Gasp!  I got up and came to sit in my chair, closed my eyes, and again the song resounded in my mind.  I just like the song - and yes, when she sung it, the tears formed again, as they always do when I watch that movie.  Why does it make me tear up?  Because most times I feel broken so I can relate to the words of the song.

I would have loved to stay in bed a bit longer this morning - after all, it is Saturday - but other than my mind not letting me, I have a busy morning happening early.  And it doesn't really affect me but I have to be the one who gets up and gets ready.

Hubby scheduled the dog groomer to come by between 7-7:30AM.  Yes that is early.  But, we have to go by their schedule and she is so big, and so full of energy, and is so strong, well, let's just say that PetSmart has banned her.  I'm sure I've chatted about this before.  So we have a groomer who comes to the house about once every six weeks to give her a bath and trim her nails.  So what does that mean other than I have to make sure I'm up and dressed?  I need to get moving around the usual time and take her out for a quick walk to get rid of some that of that overnight pent-up energy.  I can keep her on track while I walk her, but it really would not be fair to give her to a woman groomer (who is about my size) to hold her still for nearly an hour trying to get her shampooed, dried, and nails done.  In fact, last time she came mid-morning and Sheeba would not let her dry her - so we got her back damp.  But at least she was clean.

Then also early this morning the grandson and the nephew are to come over to do some things here at the house that I want done.  I've asked opinions about putting shelves up next to the ceiling in the kitchen area so that I can keep my tea cups and tea pots and put them up there.  That way they are available when I want to have a tea party.  My next option would be to get rid of them and keep a few for I have no large cabinets in which to store them.  Yes, I could wrap each one back up and store in the garage - which is also an option, but shelving has been purchased to put up and I've heard this morning is when it will be done.  There are a couple other things that need to be done as well so I am going to assume they will also be taken care of.  I'm hoping to get a few boxes unpacked this morning as well.  Which means I will be busy.

But around 2:30PM hubby and I will head off and both of us will be getting massages (separately).  I've had some tightening in my upper back again - stress, I'm sure - and if I don't keep it relaxed, it won't be long before it will reach up into my neck and I will be unable to move my head.  Been there, done that, takes a couple weeks and 2-3 deep massages to get it out.  It is interesting to note that at my last deep massage and that area of my back was being worked on, the masseuse said that he couldn't get that area to loosen up, and he wondered if my spine was beginning to curve in that area.  That was his only comment, but that is something that has stayed in my mind.  The women in my family have rounded shoulders from never sitting straight.  This has always been on my mind and although I know I slouch a lot, when I think of it I throw my shoulders back and pull my head up while I'm sitting or walking.  But sitting in front of a computer all day I find myself slouching a lot.  So I often get down on the floor to stretch my back and neck, and sometimes use the roller I have to roll on that my chiropractor had told me to use as well to keep my back loosened.  That one hurts so I don't use it as frequently as the stretching, but I do use it.  Today might be a good time before I head to get the massage.

Speaking of keeping the back straight, I remember in high school watching some type of a video - probably in home economics - where the girls were taught to do two things in order (now this probably did happen in the early 1900's!!) to keep their backs straight and be attractive to men.  They were taught to walk with a book on their heads to hold their heads up (I am so guilty of this - I often walk with my head down so keeping my head up is not something I do naturally) and straight - but they also put a coat hanger or a dowel rod across the back shoulder blades held in place by the bra straps to force you to keep your shoulders pulled back.  Therefore, they learned (back then) to walk with their head up and their back straight.  I remember working with a woman back in the 70's at Indiana Bell Telephone Company as it was called then - and she always walked that way.  It was unusual so I noticed it.  Later I heard that she had broken her back and had been in a cast many months - which was why her back was so straight.  I guess that would work too, but I think I'd rather skip the broken back and just use a coat hanger!   But if you look at many of the women and young girls nowadays, they don't hold their head up, and they often have the start of a rounded back from not keeping their shoulders pulled back.

Goodness!  You are getting a memory lesson today, aren't you!

It's like I notice more and more that because hubby sits in his recliner a lot (and I mean a lot) and doesn't workout anymore (although he pretends he plans to.  He went once a few weeks ago and was gone maybe 20 minutes (including driving time) and said he only did a couple things because he hadn't worked out in over six months.  LOL  When it's time for him to go back to his doctor, he will start the week before so that he can tell him "I'm working out".  He always does that.  But back to the recliner -and I am sure you have seen it in other men - they get the 'recliner look'.  Their back is starting to move forward when they get up and start walking.  I have mentioned it to hubby and asked him to try to stand up straight... but it doesn't do much good.  (and here I sit in my recliner during the mornings, a straight desk chair during the day, and the sofa at night!)

I know I'm not as active as I should be - and as I once was.  Part of it I blame hubby for and not being able to do things by myself and he won't do it with me.   Like going on long walks.  Our morning walks?  I get to take HIS dog on a walk for a couple miles - if I'm good on time - and he will occasionally walk by himself in another direction and get a walk in.  This week has been a positive for him - one morning he got over 2 miles - and he walked Thursday morning and got 2.9 miles in.  I just look at him and comment I wish I could, but I have a 7AM 'date' with my computer Monday - Friday so am limited (especially since it doesn't start to get light until 6:15AM or so and I will not take Sheeba out while it's dark) and she is HIS dog so why am I the only one who gets to walk her.  Of course he responds Sheeba is OUR dog and .... whatever his excuse is.  But I don't think he can handle her anymore.  He has strength, but she is stronger than he is.  And she is nearly stronger than I am and without the control for her shock collar, I would not be able to keep her in line (after all, she is 104 pounds! of pure muscle and energy) to walk when she sees another dog.  I've begged him to take her to the dog park and let her run it off - and we event went to check one out and it looks great - but he hasn't.  Maybe this weekend I can get her over there.

Ok - I reckon I have rambled on enough this morning - and it is now 6:01AM and I need to get dressed and take Sheeba out for a quick walk before the groomer comes.  The past few weekends I have not taken her for a walk and I know she misses it.  I always feel guilty for not taking her, but some days I just don't wanna head out that early.  and then it gets too hot.  But the weather is starting to cool down and I might be able to take her later on weekends soon.   I do love to walk, and I don't mind taking Sheeba - at least that gets me out of the house.

And I don't have to talk to anyone but God, and if I don't talk, He still hears what I think about.  But I enjoy singing and talking as I walk.  If anyone sees me before I see them, they probably think I'm weird, but that's usually my 'clear my head and heart' time with God.  Besides here in my room. :)

So what do you do to clear your minds in the morning so that you can face the day?  Take a few minutes, close your eyes, and just breathe in and out for a few minutes.  Let your worries and thoughts go.  Just for a few minutes.  You will feel so much better!

Have a great day!
