TGIF

Thank God it is Friday!  What a week it has been!  I think it has felt like a long week because last week was another short  work week with being off on Monday.  Besides, it is end of month catch up time and it always keeps us busy. Last week was a rough week with a couple funerals to attend.  This week has just been busy and I've been sleeping, but it seems to just not be enough.  About mid-morning through mid-afternoon I get the "sleepies" where I have to fight to stay awake.  Today is no different than any other.  I could easily go curl up in a chair and go right to sleep.  Easily.

We had a potluck today - which certainly has not helped with my sleepiness.  I eat.  Sometimes too much.  And that makes me sleepy.  Would that be what a call a win/lose situation?  We've got some interesting menu items today for our potluck.  We have Italian spaghetti (made by my hubby and very good); garlic bread, salad, Siberian burgers, brots, fresh fruit, orange juice and sweet tea, delicious homemade triple chocolate brownies (mmmm), spinach dip (for those who need veggies with their meal?) and someone just brought out a cheesecake.  I have indulged way too much between the spaghetti and the brownies.  I did have some salad and only one piece of garlic bread and lots of fruit.  It's the overload of carbs that is putting me to sleep - well, now it is.  Prior to that I was already sleepy.  I'm seriously thinking about walking to my car for a quick 15 minute nap.  I used to do that when I was in covered parking.  But now, I park in the open - then again, the walk there (about a block) might wake me up as well.  I really need to get my tennis shoes out and do some walking on my lunch hour.  All overtime has been cut out so I need to use my extra time effectively.

If only my actions would match my words.  I can talk all I want about getting up and going walking - and if I could get someone here to get up and walk with me - it just might work.  But, I don't know who could and would at this time, for I don't know my co-workers that well.  I may just need to 'just do it'.  Yeah.  Starting Monday.  I'm too tired and sleepy today.

Plus I woke up yesterday morning with a sore throat and today it is worse.  Well, it isn't feel that bad right now, but because I've taken some 'daytime' meds, I think they are counter-effective and not only easing my pain, they are putting me to sleep.  We went to bed about 9PM last night and I was awake at 3:30AM and could not go back to sleep.  The alarm went off at 4AM.  Of course after that I COULD go back to sleep - but didn't dare.

I started pulling things together last night so that I wouldn't have so much to gather this morning before going to work.  As mentioned, for the potluck, I asked hubby to make his spaghetti and I was going to take a salad as well.  I put the crockpot in the bag last night, spoons, etc that I would need.  Before I went to sleep I asked God to help me remember the salad as I was afraid I would forget it.  This morning, after my quiet time, I grabbed the salad, the dressings, the bowl - all that I would need to put it together.  I'm heading out the door when I had a thought to look in the little refrigerator and grab a yogurt for my breakfast (although hubby had already fixed me an egg).  As I opened the door, the bag of spaghetti fell out from behind the watermelon.  It was almost funny - no it didn't spill - but I realized that I was on my way out the door with OUT the spaghetti!  If I had not been prompted to open the door of the little refrigerator (God, was that you?), I would have had a crockpot with nothing to put in it.  I don't know where my mind was this morning, but it certainly wasn't in getting the spaghetti.  This is why I write myself lists at night so that I don't forget everything.

I'm so glad that God doesn't forget me.

Isaiah 49:15-16 - “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne?  Though she may forget, I will not forget you!  See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me."

I am so grateful that even when I screw up He will love me back to Himself.  He offers me mercy, and He offers me grace.  I deserve neither.  But he loves me in spite of all I have done, in spite of all the things I put before Him.  He gently woos me back to Himself.  Now that is love everlasting, love unending, love freely given.

As I drove into work this morning I was praising God for His faithfulness to me.  I was reminded how He wants to give His children good gifts.  My job is to be ready to receive them.  To be alert so that I know what I'm being blessed with.  Too often we get so busy that we forget to look for the blessings, and thank Him.

Take some time and think on the things that you are blessed it.  It may be your health.  It may be financial blessings.  It may be... well, you can fill in that blank.  What are you thankful for?

Once again , today, I'm thankful it's Friday!  I'm ready for a weekend!  Hope your weekend is all you want it to be.

Blessings!
