I imagine a lot of people will be wearing red today in "honor" of the day. I did as well. I usually try to defy it and wear another color because everyone wears red today - but I didn't. I wore a red top. I've noticed from those already here at work - three people I've seen - two did not wear red, one did. I guess we have others who defy it as well. I found it funny last night as we watched the news that one newscaster got mixed up on her days because a friend had posted on facebook yesterday 'happy valentine's day' so she thought it was yesterday and wore a red dress to work. I hope I remember to watch tonight - I'm curious as to what she will wear today!
I must admit I am starting to look forward to a lazy weekend with the hubby. We have nothing planned other than watching movies and chilling around the house. In the spur of the moment we may decide to go somewhere and do something - but nothing is planned. We haven't had one of those weekends in a long time. No Marley, no housework, no nothing. I'm afraid I might get bored, but will see. It is to be our "Valentine" weekend so no going out to dinner tonight.
So what are you planning to do for your special someone?
1 Corinthians 13 - "If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love."
This scripture always reminds me that I can do all things, I can have all things, but if I do not love in the process, what I have done is useless and is of no value. Where do you stand? Do you give to the poor, but don't really care about them? Do you minister to others but don't care what happens to them? Do you tell them to "be well and healthy" but don't help them? Is it all talk and no care?
What if God did that to us? What if He said for us to be 'healthy and well" and did nothing to help us? We would be in sad shape for sure! I am so grateful for a God that is not only forgiving and loving, but He willingly shows us ways to live that will be good for us. He always wants good for us, and will show us the way, but we have the choice to go the right path.
So what about you? Do you have love today? Do you ask for more love or help to love others more? Is there someone in your life who is difficult to love? God will help you love the unloveable, but you have to ask Him to help you. Look for the positive things in this person instead of the negative. I know, sometimes that is hard to do. Let's make a pact - let's choose to look for the good in others.
Hope that you have a blessed Valentine's Day - make a point to make a difference in someone's life. It may be the crucial thing they need today - just to know that you care. In all things, choose Love.
