If I was in the office, it would have started last week! I do miss those days of being the center of attention! LOL Not really. But I would be making the plans for another 'lunch party' that I always did the first part of August. Usually the first Friday in August, so it would have been last Friday. I miss the gathering of people and eating together. I was talking to my trainer about it last night. She said she wanted to be invited! As if I have those anymore. Some of the people I work with still remember those times and will comment occasionally about how much they enjoyed them. And I enjoyed them too, even all the work involved in set up and cooking. But - it isn't this year either since we are still working remote. But I will start celebrating today - how?
I am meeting my boss for lunch today (instead of our usual breakfast). Meetings kept hitting during our time of getting together for breakfast and we've had to move it a few days - finally we decided to just do lunch - and doing it at Culinary Dropout. They have the best pretzel rolls and cheese to dip it in. YUM. Anyway, meeting my boss there this morning so that will start my celebration. I also expect a couple packages to arrive today. My friend and co-worker Cecilia text'd me the other day that I will receive a gift from her today, and my little sister shipped my gift out on Monday and it is to arrive today. Whoo Hoo. I enjoy getting the gifts, but I don't expect them. I would rather spend time with them - that is more precious than any gift. But, distance is a problem, so gifts are accepted. LOL Just kidding.
As of right now I think my oldest son and I are still meeting up for breakfast in the morning. I always love spending time with him. If a job comes in for him, that has priority, and I'm ok with that. I'm sure he will know soon. I don't need a gift; I enjoy his 'gift of time'. As I age, that gift is more important than the others. :-)
Got so much to do today since I'm taking tomorrow off work. I can work late if I need to, but I don't expect that to be needed. I don't think we have anything going on tonight. But I will be gone at least 2 hours for lunch (driving time, eating, etc.) so I do need to make up a little bit of time. Of course I've worked my lunch hours all week so there is that as well. I don't have to make up my time. Unless there is something that needs to get done.
Psalm 149:4 (NIV): For the Lord takes delight in his people; he crowns the humble with victory.
When was the last time you got all puffed up about something and then something happened that kind of humbled you? I often say that I know when I'm getting too proud of something. Like, for example, when I have a message to give and I know it is a good message, and what happens? I lose my place! Or if I'm walking across an area and I'm all dressed up and looking good (at least in my opinion), my heels are perfect, my dress is great - and what happens? I stumble and can even fall! Yeah, I always say it is God keeping me humble! It's ok to be proud of accomplishments or people.... but it is when we build on those and let those thoughts control our minds and keep our minds from Him, that it becomes a sin. I know I've talked about this before so I'm going to 'leave this right here'.
This week is actually the 'week of August birthdays'. Monday was a great-grandson's birthday. Tuesday was a brother in law's birthday. Yesterday was a grandson's birthday, today is another (step) grandson's birthday, tomorrow is mine (and a few friends who I share the birthday with), and I think that is it for this week. My little sister's birthday is next Friday. We all are either 'growing up' or 'getting older' - well, I guess we are all getting 'older'... me, it's hard to believe (for me, anyway) that I will be 75 this year. When my mother was 75 she just sat all day, usually at her kitchen table working on ceramics. I loved my mother, but I don't want to live my last years as she did. I want to live life.
I want to stay active. I want to live and love and leave this world with a lot of memories with everyone. I want them to look back after I'm gone and say 'remember when ....' and it be a living memory. Does that make sense? I don't want to be known for sitting in a chair for the rest of my life. Of course with still working, I AM sitting in a chair all day, but at least it is keeping my mind active. Right now I know that if I wasn't working, I'd still have to stay home.... reading probably. My life is not my own right now, and whom I share it with doesn't always share the same thoughts and dreams that I do. I do what I can do. I also want to do a lot of baking and cooking and having people over. I want to move to my own place (with no HOA telling me what I can or cannot do). I want to live life to the fullest.
I see women in their 90's running marathons! There was also one who was 102! I have always dreamed of being a 'runner', but.. well, I'll leave that dream alone. I struggle just to be a 'walker'. Sigh. Am I whining again? I have so much I want to do (like cleaning garage, cleaning closets, etc.) and I can't get to them for various (excuses) reasons. Which one do I use today, right? I am not my own. UGH.
So - I need to jump in the shower and wash my hair (no, I still don't like it) and get ready to fire up the work computer and get started. And I actually have a few minutes I think to just sit and talk with God. I have gotten to where I write my prayers more often than not now... but when I do have a little extra time, I open up the shutters of my window and sit and talk with God. Those are the best times of my entire day. Such peace I get from such times. Surrendering my day to Him is the best thing I can do. He is in control anyway.
And I need to get off here if I'm going to do that! So have an amazing day!
Blessings!
