sooner, rather than later. Moving, that is.
We declined the first offer and counter-offered on our house. They came back with another offer that we are actually considering. Will discuss with my daughter sometime today. She knows all the details of what needs to be done that I have no clue about. We will need to let them know today if we will accept their latest offer, and they want to send an appraiser/inspector out within three days. So the thoughts of 'what if' come to my mind. I do have a couple concerns, but the comps on our house compared to a house that sold down the street a short while ago with less footage, still no garage but they have a driveway, was high. Compared to the $ per square foot shown on the comps for that house, this house should be offered at $15K more. But that's ok. It still needs some critical things (I feel) fixed. But I don't want to put the $$ into getting them fixed. My daughter and son-in-law already have done around $5K in fixing the house up. The decking by the pool got patched and painted the other day, and more sod put down where Sheeba had killed it. We will pay them back out of the proceeds.
We also put in an offer on the duplex we have been looking at. I did go back over the other day with my daughter and walked through it again. I still can't decide about that one room. Do I put my treadmill, TV, yarn, and an easy chair back there? (which means I will need to keep it clean all the time) Do I make the 2nd bedroom my quiet time room? I'm just uncertain. We did get a response around 8:30PM last night on our offer - it was accepted with the contingency that until our house sells, it is just pending.
But if we accept the offer (if we don't, my daughter will have an open house on Saturday to see if we can get any more interested people), we will close by July 3rd, I think it was. Or perhaps it was the end of June. Either way, once we know we are going forward, I want the duplex painted - perhaps the grey beige that is all the rage now. Any color can go with it. Currently in the duplex we have pink, blue, and mint green rooms. Good colors, but I can't match decor with all that. Or I just don't want to. Regardless, once it is painted, we can start moving things over even though we haven't closed. It's been empty for 8 months as the lady is in an assisted living.
My daughter and son-in-law are not taking a commission on the sale of our house or on the new house, to get us a better deal. They have put a lot of time and effort in helping us - and are asking for nothing in return. I'll need to figure out something to thank them with. They plan to move in about six month, I think. Now that we are taking their duplex, I'm not sure where they will move.
A huge drawbck for me is that I have always been centrally located among my children. Although I rarely see the boys, they were close by if I felt I needed to call them. We will now be so far out, it will be like living in another state, instead of another city. Will they come visit us? Will they want to drive that far - although it's only like 20 minutes or so further for either, I think.
I won't have an island in the new place, but with the cabinets still have counter space. I'm already thinking ahead to Christmas baking and hoping that I can still get the grandchildren to come bake cookies with grandma. I truly do not want to lose that tradition. That would break my heart. It's about the only time I see some of the grandchildren. I want to keep that memory alive for as long as I can.
My mind is wandering of all the possibilities. But I am not anxious, I am trusting taht if it works out, this is God's plan for us. Starting over. Beginning again. But I'm still trusting in the One who knows all.
Blessings!
