I think there is a song (or two) with that line in it, isn't there? Oh yeah, as I sit here and think about the line going through my mind... I am reminded of Sleepless in Seattle and at the end of the movie, it is being sung by.... why does Jimmy Cricket come to mind? LOL Actually, I had to stop and look it up cause I knew that wasn't it... how about Jimmy Durante... both at the beginning and the ending of Sleepless in Seattle. By the way - one of my favorite movies. Love happens in many ways.
As I sit here this morning, trying to think about what to write about, that line 'as time goes by' came to mind. Time is consistently slipping by us, isn't it? We either waste it, or use it. I think I waste more than I use, but I would like to be more productive in many areas. Do you feel the same way? Let's take a moment and just think of ways we waste time.... facebook, linked in, (I am getting MUCH better on those two), Instagram (haven't looked at for a few months), Tic Tok (I deleted that app a long time ago - I didn't like the content that I was seeing). I suppose there are a few others, but those are the main ones I think that draw me. Oh yeah - words with friends - but I only play against my big brother and hubby - and usually only once a day (in the evening before bed) I will go through all the challenges and complete them. I skim my emails on the computer in the mornings and delete a lot, and sometimes during the day I will skim and delete as well. One of these days I need to sit down and put in alphabetical order and just delete a whole bunch at a time! That's a goal every day - telling myself I need to clear out emails. Some day. I just don't want to 'waste' time in skimming emails and deleting. Right? As time goes by....
The youngest should be in Indianapolis late this afternoon and will be dropping off a box I sent to my little sister. Saved me a lot in shipping. A couple things are 'stuff' she has sent me and I don't want. But for the most part, it's things I picked up to send her. And not a lot at that - but it is heavy enough (a couple cook books) that it would cost to ship. Once he drops that off, he may stop in at the hospital to see my little brother, and in the morning is having breakfast with my older brother before heading out to their next state. I would love to fly back for a visit with my siblings, but the tension and stress sometimes causes discomfort. And I'll leave that there. I'm glad he is stopping to see them all. I wish my older sister was still alive .... she would have loved to feel wanted. I really do miss her. It wasn't her time to go.
I'm finding that although I am putting hubby's appointments on the electronic calendar, I still need to write them down on paper in MY calendar. It's too much effort to run to the kitchen every time I want to check something. I will take my calendar with me on one of those trips and make sure I have everything in my book. When I'm back here, I'm referring to my calendar book, not the wall calendar. I like having the electronic calendar for I can see at a glance easily enough what is going on. Maybe I'm just a 'paper girl' - I think 'what if the power goes out - then what?' and if I have it on paper... but then, what if I lose the calendar book? What if it gets destroyed? LOL So many 'what if's!' And you know what? I don't care. I'll use both.
Last night was nice - I was home alone all evening. What did I do? I finished a baby blanket while I was watching movies on Up Faith and Family. My favorite of those is The Christmas Card. It's about a soldier getting a Christmas card while overseas, and he comes to Nevada City on a furlough and falls in love with the girl who wrote the card to him. It's a good movie and I would recommend it. :-) Even you tough old guys.
2 Samuel 7:22 (NIV): How great you are, Sovereign Lord! There is no one like you, and there is no God but you, as we have heard with our own ears.
Have you ever paused long enough to absorb the thought of how great our God is? He created the world. He created you. You didn't 'evolve' - you were created and life was breathed into you when you were born. That is all God. I am often reminded of when my daughter was born and her Uncle Charlie saw her for the very first time he said these words as he held her little hand.... "How can anyone look at a newborn baby and not know that it is God who created them?" Ok - the words may not be exact - but probably more like ' how can someone look at a baby and not see God's hand?'.... I know what he meant in my heart and mind, but sometimes it is hard to pull out the exact words. I'm sure I have them written down 'somewhere' in a journal - but then, I've only been journaling for 40+ years and she is older than that, so I don't know.
But our Sovereign Lord is great and He is mighty! There is no one else that I would rather run to when I am hurting (because He comforts the broken-hearted), when I am angry (because He will avenge me), when I have sinned (because He forgives me when I confess)... and so much more. Many times I just enjoy sitting with Him and just being in His presence. In fact, this morning my mind has been circling around as to where and when we could get away for a retreat. Hubby always has to keep me close and just is not on the same page with me on some things. He loves to get alone with God too, but he wants me nearby ... when I want to be alone, I want to be a-l-o-n-e. Does that make sense? I tell myself that why spend the money for a hotel or a cabin - when we are alone in the house here. Does that make sense?
But the house is too cluttered and too distracting. I miss the hermitage days, which I have shared numerous times. (erase) And I think I'll hush on that....
We have our group at church tonight for the 2nd week of Revelation study. I have figured out why it's a ten week lesson and we are only doing 5 classes at church.... they want us to break off into 'life groups' in someone's home for the remaining lessons. I get it, and we like the leaders. It will be nice to see them again tonight. There is another older couple (the leaders are in their 60's I'm guessing as they mentioned they both retired this last year), and one other woman in her 50's I'm guessing... I think she and hubby compete for attention, if you know what I mean. Compete for relevance. I could be wrong... yes, I could be, don't be shocked. Will see how this turns out. I really hope we can make good friends... but with hubby's age, health, and lack of desire to do things that require putting oneself out... it does prevent a lot. Not to put hubby down; he can only do what 'he can do' (or wants to do). I age more every day. I used to say my grandchildren kept me young... but since I rarely see any of them now, I am getting older all the time. LOL
And with that - I need to get off here and jump in the shower. Hope that you have an amazing day. Do something kind for someone today. Send someone an unexpected note. Share your thoughts with someone (but keep them positive!) and spend time with Jesus if you can't think of anyone else to spend time with - not that He is a 'leftover', but He is the best One to spend time with!
Blessings!
