I am sitting here this morning....

questioning my decision to have this surgery on my right eye this morning.  I mean, I was getting along fine with using that magnifying glass as I need it, wasn't I?  I could continue with the bright light and all to read, right? I'm too young to have this surgery, isn't that right?  No, I'm not afraid.  I trust my eye surgeon and I've been going to him for close to 15 years, I'd imagine.  He has kept a watchful eye (pun intended) on my eyes.  But he just had to tell me last October..."when you are tired of dealing with the magnifying glass and bright lights to see, let's get you scheduled".  I still thought I was too young until I heard that!  Doesn't cataracts have to do with OLD people?  I'm not 'old' - right?  RIGHT?

But alas, today is the day.  The plus is I've taken a day off work (whoo hoo).  The negative is that (or is it a plus?) my eye is going to be worked on and then bandaged for a few days.  No makeup for 4 days.  No coffee this morning.  I am to be in the surgery center at 9:30AM; surgery at 9:45AM.  Surgery takes 10 minutes; then I stay for a couple hours to get the drugs out of my system that put me to sleep.  I expect all to go well and I'll be fine.  I plan to work tomorrow except when I go back to the doctor for a follow-up....but my boss says 'don't worry about it'; just check messages, basically.

Well, I got mixed messages on the coffee so I just opted to not have it.  So hubby didn't interrupt me this morning with my coffee.... and I slept a bit more because his snoring kept me awake for quite some time last night.  Oh - the mixed messages on the coffee.  My instructions on paper state only a sip of water this morning.  No food after midnight.  No colored liquids.  The nurse called me yesterday and said I could drink coffee this morning, without cream or sugar.  (no problem there!)  But I have opted to obey my instructions - not drinking water other than a sip to take my morning levothyroxine and vitamin D pills, not drinking coffee.  I may get a headache later, but for now... I'm 'detoxing' I guess.

I read something interesting this morning in one of my devotionals... bear with me here....

"My husband Jack and I were watching a medical program on television one night. They showed an open heart surgery. Two human hearts were lying side by side. Each of them was beating at different rhythms. The surgeon moved them together, until the tissue of one heart touched the other.  Suddenly, both assumed the same rhythm."

That is how intimacy is with God.  When we pray to Him, and look to Him to meet all our needs and desires, when we seek Him about all else and know His heart, then our heart will begin to beat in the same rhythm as His.  Isn't that so cool.

How many of us are so busy with life that we forget to pray?  Or we blurt out a quick 'fix this, Lord' prayer and head out the door.  How can our hearts beat as One with His, if we are too distracted, too busy, to spend time with Him, and to listen for His voice?

And we wonder why our lives are in turmoil most of the time.  Why struggles happen.  Why relationships get broken up.  Why arguments happen.  Why nothing ever goes the way we want it to.  We have broken our intimacy with God and are too busy with ourselves.... to even remember that we need Him.  And need Him we do.

He is the very air we breathe.  Let me say it again.  Jesus is the air we breathe. His very Word, spoken to us, gives us breath.  Are we too busy to take a moment..... to breathe?  To just thank Jesus for loving us? For helping us?  Prayerlessness is the first sign of prideful independence.  We are empty with His fullness.  We are nothing without Jesus.  I don't want to be prideful... do you?

Agur probably says it best in Proverbs....

Proverbs 30:2-3 (NKJV):  "Surely I am more stupid than any man, and do not have the understanding of a man. I neither learned wisdom nor have knowledge of the Holy One."

The wisdom of Agur was in not having a proper self-assessment of his own stupidity. Would to God that we all owned that same awareness! It would drive us back to our knees, back to the source of all wisdom, back to "the only wise God." If He alone is wise, where does that place us?

Blessings!
