I'm so excited that after church today, about 2PM, two of my granddaughters and 2 of my great-granddaughtesrs, will be coming over to bake cookies! I asked them what they wanted to bake so that I could be sure I had the ingredients on hand. I hope I do! I checked recipes and ran to the store for some last minute ingredients. So excited to have them over.
Yesterday I got a lot of baking done for myself. Well, not a LOT of baking, but two batches of cranberry pumpkin nut bread. I made some in to 'donuts', which hubby likes, and some into muffins, which he must also like (cause I noticed one was gone last night), and the rest in to big and small loaves. They are in the freezer. I also was able to put together two cheeseballs. Then I had to run to the store.
I put together a package for Ms. Vicky and called her, but she said she had a bad cold and didn't want me to get it. Well, with the busy schedule I know I will have this week, I asked if I could bring her gifts over and she said yes. So I took her a loaf of the bread, a cheeseball and crackers, some toffee and the other chocolate my friend had given me (because if it is here, I will at it).... and a prayer shawl I had made for her. We talked for a few minutes and I handed her the gifts. When I got home, hubby suggested I go over to Ms. Diane's since I wasn't staying at Ms. Vicky's. Great idea, although I had already planned on it. I fixed her up a cheeseball and crackers, some of the muffins, and a jar of bread n butter pickles, cause I know she likes them. I got to stay and visit with her for about an hour before heading back home. Happy I was able to share with two neighbors that I care for and now can face the week without feeling guilty I can't find time to visit.
Little by little, people who get goodies I make are being taken care of. I don't think I will need to do any more baking, except for pleasure. I do need to bake and put together my favorite boss's basket on Thursday night as we will meet up on Friday morning. And, my favorite doctor is going to stop by because he said he had a gift for me (and couldn't bring it when we met a week ago), so I'll fix up something for him as well.
My children seem to be so-so on my home-baked goods. The boys aren't so much in to sweets anymore and my daughter can make her own. But I have a plan. And that's all I have to say about that.
I'm off work tomorrow to finish up my Christmas shopping/wrapping and be done with it. I better be! I got online again Friday night and ordered on Amazon and things are being delivered! Although, I got notice one was delivered last night and when I look at the photo - it doesn't look like our porch.... so wonder if it is at Ms. Amy's house. I'll check out front and then go over there before we head to church.
8 more days before we celebrate Christmas - and I hope you stop and think about the why we celebrate. True, no one knows for sure the exact date Jesus was born. They are just calculated as best they can to December 25th. We know our children don't think about anything but Christmas gifts - but what about us? Can we pause just long enough, to remember WHY we celebrate December 25th? Do you remember why?
Take some time to read chapter 2 in the book of Luke (New Testament - Matthew, Mark LUKE). Most of you should have a Bible. Take pause this coming week and read it. Read the story of the birth of Jesus. Pause, and meditate on WHY He came.
And then take some time and thank Him for loving you enough, that Jesus came to die for you. For your spouse. For your children. Choose to be thankful. And tell Him so.
Take pause.... and rejoice in Jesus, who came as our Shepherd, to save us from the world.
