or resignation has set in. Perhaps my meltdown on Saturday got through to hubby. I wasn't sure how yesterday would go. I had to let him drive to the gym as I had a board meeting prep at the same time and I had to be in the meeting. He had his meeting with his accountability partner last night for their Bible study - and he never complained, and let me drive him. I dropped him off at IHOP and then drove to my daughter's a short distance a way and we worked on her diamond art project after grabbing a bite to eat at Carolina's. I made sure I was back at IHOP in plenty of time (he told me 7:45; I was there at 7:35) and as the daughter is only like 5 minutes away in clear traffic, it was easy to do. He never complained about my driving him. Because it is now 'mandatory' for the most part, it feels awkward to drive him. But, he has the gym again today and will need to drive there; I have my dental surgeon follow-up appointment again this morning. I still have a gapping hole in my gum, but I guess it will heal eventually. We have our group Bible study tonight and I can drive there as I have before. It's just going to take planning to get things in place.
Once we both learn how to order Lyft/Uber and know how to use the app, find the right car when we are out, and feel comfortable with it, it will be much easier. It's the fear of the unknown for us older folks. These new-fangled ways of doing things are hard for us. We need patience in ourselves to learn it, and patience from others to give us grace because we are much slower in learning. You will be in this position at some time in your life as well, and will ask for grace.
I'm not even going into the mess the room is in; all the clutter on the bed and floor. Sigh. I've done it enough you can easily picture it. I'm going to get the grandson and his family's out of here who are out of state - that may clear a hole on the floor on this side of the bed. Get them over to the daughter's for them to take with them. I need to figure out for the granddaughter who lives in Nebraska and get the little things I have ready to ship and find a danish or cheesecake or something to send with it. O&H Danish out of Wisconsin is a great place that isn't too much 'out of line' financially. I can buy at Trader Joe's the same danish for 1/3 the price I pay O&H - but Trader Joe's doesn't mail. That's $10 right there! I need to put on my list to head over to Trader Joe's and pick up several danish - I give to my bosses for Christmas - it's a 'cheap gift' at $10.
Work kept me busy yesterday and I was not able to sort through or wrap anything. After my 9AM dental surgeon appointment, I'm hoping I can whip through any meetings I need to schedule and have some breaks to wrap. After I check under the tree. I forget I buy things and next thing I know, one person has way too many gifts and someone else doesn't have any. I need to stick to one gift and be done, right? But I love to lavish gifts on others. And this year isn't any different from any other. I see something and think of someone and get it; then I see something else and I get it; and then something else and I get it.... that's why I have to count gifts! And scratch names off lists!
As I paused and went to get another cup of coffee (I forgot to buy coffee last night so made a pot this morning), I was trying to think of what else to write about this morning. I remembered I have been doing an 'experiment' and I think I have mentioned it a time or two - or not. I read somewhere that if you wear socks to bed, you will sleep better. Now I scoffed at this, but I have found that when I put on fuzzy socks (nothing that is tight on the ankle or leg), I sleep deeper and sometimes better. Have you climbed into bed and all of a sudden your feet feel like they are freezing? Yes, it still happens with the socks on, but they warm up quickly. In fact, there are times during the night that I will wake up 'warm' and will pull the socks off - and go back to sleep! But I still had them on this morning and you know what - I didn't wake up once during the night. Not even for the trip down the hall. Of course I didn't drink any fluid after 7PM so that helps. Try it for a few nights. Leave your socks on, or put fuzzy socks on and go to sleep. If you wake up during the night and are warm, take them off. But see if you sleep a bit better. Let me know how that works for you.
John 6:35 (NKJV): And Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst."
People say they believe in God, or in a 'higher power' - but do they believe in Jesus? We can only get to God through Jesus Christ. Yep. That's what the Bible says. Yes, I/we also pray to God, our Heavenly Father. But Jesus is our Advocate and will go to our Father, His Father, and will speak on our behalf. So many times we pray and wonder why we don't get answers. But usually it is the answers we seek we don't always receive. Sometimes we need to beat on heaven's doors and cry out to Jesus to intercede for us, as we intercede for those we love and want restoration for. Jesus is our Advocate and goes to our Father on our behalf.
Jesus is always closer than a brother, closer than a friend. He is Life to those of us who know Him. He only wants the best for us, but sometimes we have to deal with the consequences of our words, of our actions. For example, I am praying that hubby will have peace about this transition that he is now having to go through. I am praying that we both have patience with each other as it is also a transition for me. I'm sure he sees it as a consequence of 'old age', where death is right around the corner for him. He is so afraid of leaving me alone and unprotected. It's a transition for me, in that I have to work around schedules now I didn't have to before. It depresses him to be dependent upon me (although he has been for years in others ways), it stresses me at times to try and figure out how to make it work. But it is a necessity of life. I think once we both use Uber it will be very calming to know that we can do it for some things. Hubby just needs to get used to doing this; I think he has finally accepted it. He does have a bible study at 1PM today not far from us and I may let him drive to it; will see what he says. I think this gradual giving up will be easier for him than removing all privileges. If I wasn't working it wouldn't be so much an issue for I'd be going with him today.
I'm drawing a blank on what to write about. I see my note stuck to my phone - because I forgot to get it last night - need to stop at the store on my way home from the surgeon's office this morning and pick up hot dog buns; that's what hubby is to take for the lunch at the bible study today. I forgot to pick up last night. Need to order some coffee too. I really do not want to be 'shopping' during this month anywhere. Amazon and I have become great friends; I keep them in business, they don't charge me shipping. :-)
And with that I need to get off here and get dressed and ready for the day. I probably need to stop at the store on the way to the surgeon's office so that I'm not tempted to 'just pick up one more thing' - right? But don't want to be late so will do it after. Have a great day! God is good, all the time; All the time, God is good.
Blessings!
