Awake with a headache....

One thing I definitely miss these past few mornings..... I'm the only one drinking coffee..... and no one is making it and bringing it to me.  Yep. I'm spoiled.  Every morning when I rise (isn't that part of a song?) hubby brings me my cup of coffee.  I have had to get up and make instant coffee for myself.  I don't know if it was my pillow or waking up with a start this morning... but my head is hurting.  Probably coming from a deep sleep and knowing I want to do my quiet time before the others awake... well, I haven't done my reading yet, but I came downstairs to get a cup of coffee before I go back up and shower and 'do my thing'.  Also start to pack cause we go home today.  And if none of that makes sense, it's because my head hurts. And of course I didn't bring anything for a headache.   Sipping my coffee.

We had a fun and busy day yesterday.  We ate donuts and yogurt parfaits for breakfast.  We dressed and headed to a place called 'The Barefoot Trail' just outside of Flagstaff, I think it is.  And just like the name, shoes come off and you walk barefoot through a mile long trail with lots of side adventures all the way through it.  That was the longest mile I have ever walked!  I did most of the activities.  Or adventures, as they call them.  It was really fun, but the bottom of my feet hurt so bad!  I haven't walked barefoot outside in years for any length of time.  We walked on sand and dirt.  Parts of it were cool... but where the sun was shining on it, it was really hot!  I went most of that mile going 'ouch! ouch!'!  The adventures consisted of - to name a few - a small zip line between trees (that was fun! and I have video proof I did it.  It wasn't that long, of course, but it was cool.  We walked on wooden balance beams, logs, walked through water and mud (by then it really felt good on the feet), pebbles, stones, skipped going through the tires (figured they would be too hot as they were in the sun), and well, it was fun for all of us, I think. Yes, even I enjoyed it. When we finished the trail (a little over an hour) we were ready to spray the mud and dirt from our feet and get our shoes on.  At least I was.   My calves and legs and feet let me know they had been put through something unusual.

We ate lunch out and then we all got our fingernails painted.  My fingernails are so short, so I'm hoping that with the gel polish on they will grow a bit.  That's what usually happens. I get my nails done and then they grow rapidly and soon I have to either take them off (which I do - the polish, not the nail) or go get them done again.  It's been years since I have worn acrylic or painted nails consistently. And that's ok. I work from home.

I supposed, now that I told hubby last night what I did.  I skipped saying it was stupid.  But I disappointed him.  My daughter and I got our hair done the other day.  She went red; I went brown.  Neither are the colors we actually chose, although my daughter has washed hers a few times and the brightness has come out.  I haven't washed mine yet, but plan to this morning.  We stopped at Dollar Tree and picked up black towels.  The first time my daughter washed her hair, the dye came off on the white towels that are here at the house. I opted not to wash mine for that reason. It came out of the white towel.  I plan to wash it this morning.  Anyway, getting to where hubby was disappointed.  And he made no bones on hiding it.  The 'master designer' who did our hair was a novice, in my opinion.  She was told 'shoulder length' for my daughter - and she cut it to the middle of the neck.  When my daughter saw it (cause they have us where we can't see when they cut), she told her it was to be shoulder length - and the 'master designer' had the nerve to tell her that WAS shoulder length!  It is definitely NOT!  But, the granddaughter curled it and styled it yesterday and it really does look cute on my daughter.

But back to me.  and my hair.  I told hubby last night I had bangs now (such as they are).  The 'master designer' didn't even cut those right.  My granddaughter has worked on them some to even them out.  They still need more work.  But I was to get a soft warm brown.  It is a DARK brown - much like it was back in my 30's!  All my white/gray is gone (my great grands won't know me!) and well, after seeing my daughter's cut, there was no way I was letting the 'master designer' go beyond my bangs.  Besides, I like my long hair cause I can do so much with it.  If I want.  Anyway.... I told hubby a little about my daughter's hair, and then told him I had colored my hair brown, darker than I meant it to be but hopefully it will fade some over the coming weeks, and that I let her cut my bangs.  His response?  Definitely not "I cant' wait to see it" which would have been the proper response.  Nope. His disappointment came through with the 'you only let her cut bangs? You didn't cut any more off?"  And my response was 'no'.  I know he wants my hair short - does that make me disobedient because I don't want to cut my hair short at this time?  In the past, I would give in and cut it short to get him off my case about short hair.  He frequently will bring up a photo of me with short hair and comment how nice my hair looked short.  He just won't leave me alone about it.  Even a former pastor told him to leave me alone about my hair - in the Bible it says the hair is a woman's glory.  Or something like that.  What I can't get through his head is that because of his constant complaining about my long (which really isn't long) hair, he reminds me of his ex-wife who had very short hair. And I have told him that "I'm not your first wife; this is my hair".

Yeah, I feel I did a stupid thing with letting it be dyed brown.  I feel it makes me look 'old'.  I wish I could wash it out totally, but it's dyed in.  I suppose I could go to 'my hair guy' and confess what I did (as if he couldn't tell) and beg him to fix it  - but I'm afraid he'd have to pull out all the color and then redye it and nope, I'm done with that part.  so - sometimes we have to live with our mistakes.  I do and I will continue to do so.  In more ways than one for some things, right?

We will be heading out in about 4 hours.  I will finish this and then head back up the stairs to take my shower and start packing.  We plan on donuts for breakfast this morning, I'm thinking. I have eaten more junk food than I have in months or even years. We will stop for lunch on the way home.  None of us are in a real hurry to get home, I don't think.  Well, except the little one and the granddaughter.  They have a few chickens they are anxious to see.  My daughter is a bit anxious; the SIL was not happy about seeing a photo of the short hair she now has.  Instead of taking off two inches as requested, about 5 inches was taken off. Yeah... he wasn't happy when she bravely told him the other night.  For me, I knew hubby would be disappointed in my not getting it cut.  And it puts a heavy burden on me because I know it is such a simple thing for me to do - cut my hair and he'd be thrilled.  sigh.

But - life goes on and I will be back to work tomorrow.  I've had a great time this weekend and we are already talking about 'where' for next year.  It was fun having a 'thing' to do (The barefoot trail) rather than just sitting around.  Oh - I learned a new game the little one likes. We all were laughing as we played it with her. Thinking about getting one for home, but why? The great grands aren't over long enough to play a game - we bake instead. :-)  Anyway, the game is called 'Hurry up Chicken Butt'.  Hilarious!  It's fun to play with small children.

And with all this confessing and rambling, I think I'll get off here and head back upstairs.  The others are still in their rooms trying to get a little more sleep.  The little one is watching something on a phone. Me - it's a shower and then start packing.  Might refresh my coffee to take up with me. Instant or not, it tastes pretty good this morning.  I didn't know Starbucks had Premium Instant Dark Roast coffee.  It's perfect for traveling so will take when hubby and I get away.  Now to plan that trip.  Oye.

Have a fun day today and remember to say your prayers!  (You know I need them, so please include me!).

Blessings!
