The talk went well....

I guess I forgot what the ARC discussion midway through the year is about.  I was thinking, as you read yesterday, that I needed to have goals in place and what I was doing to get there, etc.  Well, it wasn't that, exactly.  It was just a conversation of what do I want to do and how am I getting there.... of course in years past Sue and I both said our mid-year goals were to 'retire'.  She is meeting that goal this year, albeit it has moved to August 31.  She reminded me yesterday.... she has 35 working days left.  Sigh.  Maybe I'll still shoot for 80.. which would be in three years.  Seems like such a long, long time, doesn't it?  Anyway, I don't get 'graded' and don't have to acknowledge this discussion like we do for the yearly one.  She said that she will just write that I'm on track for my goals and that I want to take on more responsibility.  And yes, I admitted, that right now if she doesn't give me work to do, I do get bored. Some days I have nothing to do.  Well, I DO have things to do, I just don't make them a priority.

Had a shoulder workout with Morgan yesterday.  Just remembered that I didn't write down the exercises in my book.  I'm hoping now that I can remember what I did so that I can get them written down. Some day I won't be able to afford personal training and will need to rely upon myself to do any workouts.  I have to keep working out and keep my body moving.  I loved my mama, I did, but I don't want to end my life sitting at a table all day long and waiting on someone to come visit.  You know people like that as well, don't you?  Go visit them. Encourage them to take a walk at the mall if it's too hot outside.  Keep them moving; keep them living.

Life is too short to spend it sitting in one spot.  My mama died just short of 86.  I don't know that she ever really lived.  And that's sad.  Of course that is my opinion.  She did what her mama did.  Granny always sat on the front porch and rocked in the rocking chair.  I say I want to live to 103 - but live it healthy and strong.  I want to live life. Yeah, right now it is hard, with working and circumstances.  And I really don't know what I'd do if I wasn't working and didn't have circumstances to control my life.  But I would be living.  Not that I could travel a lot - I couldn't.  But... well, let's just leave this conversation here. I don't know what I'd do differently than now.  But I would feel I could fly, if I wanted to.

My big brother's birthday is next week and he will be 81.  Hard to believe it because he is so active.  He is currently working on his snow-blower.  It's one of the powerful ones and last year with 10" of snow he said it wasn't working well.  So he is working on it now so that it will be ready for the snow this winter.  Now mind you, he could easily just buy a new one.  But he likes to tinker and fix things himself. (He recently built an entire computer innards by himself (with instructions, of course) and it is faster than anything he has had in the past.)  So he said by putting a new belt on the snowblower and a couple other parts, it is costing him $30 versus $300 if he bought a new one.  That is a big savings!  He recently had windows put in his screened porch so that they can sit out there.  I remember sitting in it when we were there last.  He's got it all fixed up with recliners, TV, etc.  Sent me a video the other day. He is always learning new things and fixing things and living life.  He just doesn't slow down.  And I want to be like that.  I want to keep moving and keep living and doing things, learning new things.

No workout today.  Hubby will be meeting with his friend (I think I have already shared they moved back to Tuesdays from Thursdays) and I will be taking Ms. Vicky out for an early birthday dinner.  When I visited the other day, I asked if her daughter was going to do anything. Ms. Vicky's birthday is next Monday.  She didn't they she would, unless it was on the weekend. So I offered to take her out - and the next thing I knew, it was decided on THIS Tuesday and not around her birthday. I know she wants company, so I agreed.  Not sure where I will take her yet.  Wherever she wants to go.  I ask myself 'What would Jesus do?" and know that He would help her enjoy the time.  Maybe I can bake a small cake over the weekend and take to her on Monday, so she won't feel forgotten.  She has one daughter here and one daughter in Nebraska.  Neither visit much, nor call.  I'm sorry she is alone most of the time, and does have some disability where she has to use a walker mostly, but can use a cane.  It's life. She is already bemoaning she will be 79 this year.  Another reason I push to work out.

Philippians 1:6 (NIV) He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

Do you label yourself?  I know I label myself at times - and they usually are not positive labels.  You know what I'm talking about.  "I'm fat." "I'm lazy."  "I'm not smart enough to...." "I'm unorganized." "I just can't do it."  And so many more.  I'm sure you have labeled yourself many times as well.

And we need to stop that.  Why?

Because we are made in the image of God and He is none of those things.  Sure, we may procrastinate a bit too much, but that doesn't mean we need to wear that label.  Our desks or closet may be a mess, but that doesn't define who we are.  We are children of the Most High God.  We belong to Him.  Therefore, no label can be put upon us except that we are His children.

God began a good work in you the day you were formed.  He knew what your future would be; Jesus knew what choices you would have to make - and which choices you did make.  Jesus knows all that from the very beginning - and yet He loves you with a love that is unfathomable.  Jesus began a good work in you, and He will continue to do that good work in you, until He returns again.  Sure, we don't know when that will be, but our 'job' is to be ready when He does return to claim us as His own.

Yes, sometimes life is hard.  Many people 'quit' and take the 'easy way out' of life because they just don't want to deal with it.  Life IS hard, but by the grace of God, He will always walk us through the tough times because He loves us so much.  Sometimes life is unbearable... but in Christ, all things are made perfect in Him.

You are a gift from God.  You were made in His image. You are loved. You are valued. You are His child.  Nothing can come against you that has not first been filtered through Jesus.  He will walk with you through any battle you face.  Jesus loves you with a love that you have never been loved with.  Think about that!  I'm sure there are times many of us have felt unloved, unwanted.  But Jesus.  He loves us, and He wants us as His own.  Life is perfect in Him - no matter what comes against us.  Jesus will always be with us.

Some days that is what we hang on to.  Jesus is Lord, and nothing surprises Him.  I am His (and so are you).  Grab His hand; sometimes life is a ride.

Have an amazing day!

Blessings!

Sunday before the holiday

Yay - we have a three day weekend - and I'm grateful.  Don't have anything planned at the moment except that I am going to get some baking done.  Will more than likely take a nap after church today, since I was awake at 2AM for about 20 minutes - wide awake.  Finally was able to turn over and go back to sleep until 4PM  - and I told myself I was NOT getting up - and dozed until nearly 5AM and finally got up.  I'm getting so lazy I think.  Could it be the weather?  What excuse can I use for laziness?

My thighs and butt are still extremely sore from the lower body workout on Thursday evening.  I'm beginning to think I am too old to do all these crazy exercises.  It hurts just to stand - sitting I'm not too bad, but try to get up and I have to stand in place for a few seconds just to determine where I am going to hurt.  And when I sit for lengths of time... oh my... I can barely walk!  But I do so want to gain better core strength, better balance and better strength overall.  That's why I'm doing what I'm doing.  It's not so much to lose weight - I can diet and do that or do a lot of walking.  I want to build strength so that I won't easily fall and hurt myself later.

I do need to get on the work computer either today or tomorrow morning and approve timecards - I think I will do it today so that it's done and over with. I approved my timecard last week so my boss can easily approve mine and be done with it.  But these others I have to approve.  Oh well.  I'll 'ger 'er done'.

There are two birthdays coming up this week - a great grandson is having his first birthday on the 5th, and my middle child and oldest son, who allowed me to start the monthly celebration with him last Friday, is having a birthday on the 6th.  I am so grateful for each of my children.  I love them 'more than they will ever remember', as my granddaughter always tells me.  Hopefully that comment isn't a prediction of my mental health as I continue to age!

Life sometimes requires good ole elbow grease - do you agree? In families we quickly learn where to put the 'grease' so that things will run smoothly.  We help others when they feel down, we listen when they have complaints, we offer solutions to problems, we are there for them always.  I read a story in my devotional today that I am going to share.

The story is told of a little girl who questioned her pastor when she was confused by his sermon. He'd said she could ask Jesus to come live inside her heart. But then she inquired, "Isn't Jesus a man living up in Heaven?" When the pastor replied that He is, the little girl exclaimed that if she invited Him to live inside of her, He would be sticking out all over. And the pastor responded emphatically, "That's right!"

The same thing is true for you and me. If we have invited Jesus to live inside us, people should see Him "sticking out all over" by the way we handle situations and interactions all throughout the day.  The apostle Peter, who tended to be an impulsive hothead when he was younger, wrote these instructions toward the end of his life to followers of Jesus:

I Peter 3:7-9 :  "All of you, live as brothers, be compassionate and humble. Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing."

Challenge for today..... "Is Jesus sticking out all over you? How would your family, friends, and co-workers answer that question? Examine your daily interactions. How has God blessed you, and how are you sharing those blessings with others?  On this day, ask God to open your eyes to fresh opportunities to bless peole in the name of Jesus.  Then do so.

Blessings!

Dare I begin to dream again?

I read my son's blog before I start to write in here, and I remembered a fun dream I used to have.  He and his wife have scheduled a hot air balloon ride to celebrate their 32nd wedding anniversary.  And I think that is awesome.  It's been a few years, but the youngest son and his wife also took a balloon ride; a breakfast one, if I recall.  I hope breakfast was afterwards, but don't remember.  Anyway, I think it is something special to take a thought and make it a reality.  It's something they would not normally do.  It's not something of no value; they are going to do this together and make a special memory and I think that is so cool.  We all need to do more things to make special memories.  Sometimes memories are all we have left.

Yesterday was my first husband's 75th birthday, and yes, I remembered.  I remembered good times and bad times.  I remembered he was my soul-mate.  I remember .... and some make me smile and yearn for those days.  I write him letters sometimes, that never get mailed. There are some things that can never be changed.  Words said that can never be unsaid.  Actions taken that can never be untaken.  But memories can last a lifetime.  A life cut too short.

Yesterday was also our Sheeba's 4th birthday.  I miss her so much.  Hubby and I will sometimes talk about her.  She was definitely too much dog for us.  I sent a note to a friend of the new owner and reminded him it was her birthday.  Sometimes when I get my hair done, he will have a photo of her to show me.  We were told that we could visit anytime, but we never will.  I don't want to confuse her.  And it's been two years about since she's been gone.  Would she even remember me?  So many reasons we had to let her go, but the main one was me.  Maybe it's guilt that I feel as well.  I loved her so much.  She made me laugh.  But after being literally dragged through two yards because I couldn't hold on to her, and being diagnosed with osteopenia, and with being older.... I couldn't take a chance on breaking a hip or my back.

Which reminds me, hubby told me last night that a neighbor with a very small dog was walking her dog yesterday and about a block away a man came out and told her to hold her dog as there was a bobcat running through the neighborhood.  His house backs up to the golf course.  The woman said she picked her dog up to carry back home, and saw the bobcat running in between houses in that block.

Now if that had been Sheeba, she would have given that bobcat a run for its life - and dragged me with her, I'm afraid!  It's bad enough when we get some coyotes walking through our back community yard.  A bobcat?  No thank you.

I guess I've gotten off track.  My title about daring to dream again.  I've had many dreams, many of which I have shared on here.  Many I have not.  I've given up on many of my dreams.  Some people like to 'shoot' dreams down. Why do they do that?  Because they don't align with their dreams.  Because they think they are stupid or unattainable.  I did have dreams at one time.  Now it seems I just live life one day at a time.  I made this my life... what is the saying - "you make your bed and lie in it"?  Well, that's what I did.   And so many others like me.

Reminds me of the song 'The Impossible Dream' sung first, I think, by Andy Williams.

To dream the impossible dreamTo fight the unbeatable foeTo bear with unbearable sorrowTo run where the brave dare not go

To right, the un-rightable wrongTo love pure and chaste from afarTo try when your arms are too wearyTo reach the unreachable star
This is my quest, to follow that starNo matter how hopeless, no matter how farTo fight for the right without question or pauseTo be willing to march into hell for a heavenly causeAnd I know if I'll only be true to this glorious questThat my heart will lie peaceful and calmWhen I'm laid to rest
And the world will be better for thisThat one man, strong and covered with scarsStill strove with his last ounce of courageTo fight the unbeatable foeTo reach the unreachable star
Songwriters: Mitch Leigh / Joe Darion

That song always reaches deep inside me, bringing to life dreams I had of old. What does it make you feel?  What is your impossible dream?

Blessings!
