Mother, may I?

I taught my great-granddaughter a new game yesterday and nearly all of us were involved in it!  She was wanting mom to play 'bat mommy' and she was the 'bat baby' while we were sitting outside. After several minutes of that, she played on her monkey stuff.  Still can't think what to call it. It was a beautiful day - the sun was shining and it was nice and warm out.  Hubby and I were sitting in the swing they have (might have to check on getting me one - I really liked it!) while they played.  Soon I was up (and realizing how heavy I've gotten and uncoordinated) and was chasing the little one around too.  Then we played tag.  Then the thought came to me - play Mother, May I?!  The little one hadn't heard of that game so I taught her to play.  Then daddy said he would play with her, then mommy did too and I was the 'Mother'.  We played several times and then Opa called out 'Red Light Green Light' for us all and we played a few rounds of that.  It was fun playing the 'old' games ... never hear them anymore.   The little one sure did love playing them though!

We left about 1:15PM and headed back home, with a stop at the DQ on the way back.  I could not believe hubby got a TRIPLE burger and fries and a shake.  I settled for my turtle pecan cluster blizzard.  He ate it all too!  We got home right at 4PM so after the suitcases and bags were brought in, the TV was on for the super bowl.  I didn't watch much of it but did sit there and finished a blanket.  Hubby watched, and slept, and watched, and slept....

I still haven't told hubby I'm staying home today... but he will find out soon enough when I don't jump up and turn the computer on pretty soon.  I'll tell him before he leaves for his breakfast.  I really don't have anything planned for today, and probably should save my PTO and work... but nah... I'm taking it off.  I deserve it.  Since he kept me awake last night with his tossing and turning, I've already dozed again this morning.  Starting to wake up really good now.

I put a pork shoulder butt in the crockpot last night and it has cooked all night so the house smells like pork.  I'll be out there soon to take it out of the crockpot, shred it, and put BBQ sauce on it and put back in the crockpot.  I'll have to see how much there actually is after I shred it to see how much I can share.  I plan to make potato soup this week some time too and share.  I do want to make a run to Sam's Club or Costco this morning (while hubby is gone) so that I can 'stroll' through and see if there is anything 'I have to have'.  No, seriously, my main reason is to get some rolls to share with the BBQ pork for sandwiches.  But I can't help it if I see something else.  I need to get bananas too.

Did you know that I saw on facebook (so it's true).... you can cut a stem off a rose, trim the end, and stick it in a banana, and it will re-root and form another plant?  Which reminds me, I wanted to pick up a couple more rose bushes at Sam's and plant in my courtyard.  I trimmed the three I have back a week or so ago and they are starting to get new leaves.  I don't need them so much to grow tall as I want them to be more bushy so I can enjoy them more.  Thinking I want to run by Home Depot too... oh so many things I want to do ALONE today!  Will see how much I actually GET done!

I'm not doing too bad on my reading 'challenge'... I think I have 7 books read out of 36 thus far.  Of course they have not been HUGE books, but they aren't small either.  Unless they are really interesting and capture my attention, it may take a week or so to get through them.  There have been some of those that I read in two nights cause I couldn't put them down except when I had to.

It may prove to be a busy week somewhat.  I've already shared what I want to get done today.  Then we're not doing 'girls night out' tomorrow since it is Valentine's day... Wednesday I am having lunch with my 'old' friend Melonie, Thursday afternoon I'm taking off early and heading to the nail salon with my daughter and granddaughter to get our nails done.  I forget what's going on Friday - but maybe nothing.  Saturday is a funeral we need to attend of a dear friend.

I Thessalonians 5:17-18 (NKJV):  "pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you."

In everything give thanks.  Sometimes it is hard to give thanks when times are tough, isn't it?  A lot of times that rough stuff is because of our own decisions, but sometimes it isn't.  Sickness comes, jobs are taken away, unexpected things happen and then there are the bills that come.... when we don't expect it, things can get really tough.  But Paul says in I Thessalonians 5 that we are to give thanks in EVERYTHING.  I must admit that sometimes I forget to thank God for even the rough patches in my life.  There are things I struggle with, many of my own decisions that weren't the best, and I need to go through the consequences of those decisions.  It's hard to say 'thanks, God' when it's tough times.  But we need to.  Why?  Because that is when we are being taught not to make those choices again.  Right?

Sometimes we don't heed the lessons we should have learned.  But when we get through them, we do need to thank God for those rough times, for it does (sometimes) tend to make us more cautious.  For example, some husbands learn NOT to say some things to their wives to tick them off.  Thank God they have learned it.  My hubby still needs to learn these things - and be thankful he learns them, of course.  Sigh.

Want to know the thought that just popped in to my mind?  I am THANKFUL to God that I didn't respond.  Not at all.  I kept my mouth shut.  I have 'things' on the bed in here.  A box partially filled to send to my sister (maybe I'll finish filling it up today and ship it...), a couple purses (my big and little one), a couple books, the bag of snacks that I haven't put away from our trip,  and probably some of his things... and he comments last night...."your bed is looking as bad as it did around Christmas time".  I bit my tongue.  I didn't say anything. I kept my mouth shut.

See, some things just don't need to be responded to... and that was one of them.  And I'm thankful I didn't respond.

And with that.... I think I will go jump in the shower and get ready to start my day.  Looking forward to not doing anything that I don't want to do today. :-)

Stay Thankful.

Blessings!
