Having to keep an eye on the clock this morning as hubby has an oncologist appointment this morning at 8:30AM and I have to go with him. I need to get on the computer before we leave for work. I'm already dressed, so just need to do my hair. Heck with makeup, right. It only 'enhances my beauty' (as my hairdresser says). Don't choke on that one. Anyway, the morning has been spent keeping an eye on the clock so that I'm not too much out of normal. Whatever normal is.
We listened to our pastor's message yesterday afternoon on Fasting. Wow, he preached a powerful message! He also, in the afternoon, sent out an email talking about the 30 day corporate fasting he is requesting us to do. I didn't hear nor read a start date, so am 'assuming' it was yesterday. When he first started talking, I told hubby that Pastor John had already been fasting; I noticed his face was a lot thinner. Anyway - along with the email, Pastor John sent a list of foods to have on the Daniel Fast (he wasn't calling for people to fast without food and the Daniel Fast is generally the 'easiest' for most people). Of course those with medical issues can choose what they want to do.
It was an interesting conversation hubby and I had after the fast. And even more interesting when we got the email with the Daniel Fast list, and I printed off a copy for both of us to have.
Now mind you, when one diets, we buy the books, we figure out what we can have and what we can't have.... and move on. But it was interesting how we both reacted. True, we have already given up many of the things on the Daniel Fast list. Personally, I want to give up a bit more and be more in line with what the church is doing. After all, I am already giving up coffee, meats, bread, and sweets. I think hubby's is bread, meats, sweets, and I forget what else.
I have been drinking a cup of tea in the mornings instead of my coffee. Hubby did not give up coffee. The Daniel Fast suggests giving up caffeine. I can switch to hot water with lemon; not a problem. Not so sure if hubby could - or would. Not going to argue with him; it is a suggestion list. It says give up dairy. Well, not too much of a deal for me.... except I do use oatmilk in my shakes and my oats overnight (or overnight oats). So - since oats are permissible, is oatmilk? May need to think on that - not going to get legalistic on it. I may continue using it anyway.
The dairy got hubby in a tight wad. Eggs. It listed no eggs. It is dairy, after all. And if you are fasting to get closer to Jesus, or fasting our church can find a larger location, is it worth it to you as much as fasting to get something you want? Just a question. He likes his eggs on his Friday mornings with his guys. I told him that if he wants to eat eggs, no one is telling him not to - this fast is personal as well as corporate. There are people who cannot do it, period. There are others who are gung ho. What matters is the heart, right? I see a few things I can give up, and I can get creative in cooking some other stuff. Hubby needs to 'chill' - right? I reminded him, the fast I am currently on is personal. Between me and God. If I want to join in the Corporate fast with the church, it is still a personal fast between God and I. So there! ;-p
I will have to give up my french fries and fried potatoes though, and the potato chips. Yeah, potato is a vegetable, which has been my argument within myself.... but they ARE fried.... and are not good for you. LOL See, even I rationalize at times! Even though I knew I shouldn't eat those potato chips left over from Christmas dinners, even as I ate them...... It's actually changing an unhealthy lifestyle to a healthy lifestyle of eating. Lots of fruits and veggies, whole wheat pastas, etc. Plenty of choices; plenty of food. So quit bellyaching about giving up stuff. Most you don't eat but once a year anyway!
All this came upon the tail of a phone call from a close friend at the RV park who called and as we have dinner plans with them on Friday, she shared that although she knows that I would be very careful and fix non-gluten foods for her (she recently found out she has celiac disease - which is an auto immune disease; I didn't know that), she still wanted us to go to McAllister's Deli as they have a good selection of non-gluten foods and she can easily eat what they have. Works for me; we can come back here to play games. And I don't have a mess or worry about it. She explained a lot about it and I had no clue how sensitive this issue is for those who have this 'disease'. I am stunned and would like to learn more about it, but there really is no reason to since none in my family have it. But still, would like to get a general awareness of what it is and what they need to avoid.
Philippians 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always. Again, I say, Rejoice!
Our bible study group is to come over this Wednesday evening for the study. In other words, we are hosting it this time. Need to take a photo of the back of our TV to see if there is a HMTL or whatever it is, place where our 'leader' can plug in his computer for us to watch the session. Need to pick up a veggie tray and fruit tray; don't know who is going to be doing the fast. They also want my cheeseball so will have it and crackers for anyone who is not on the fast. Same with tea, coffee, and water.
I did get all my Christmas things put away on Saturday. It felt good to finally get it all taken down. At least I think I have it all. Moved the children's bookcase, rocking chair, and cradle back to the front room. Moved my exercise equipment back in place. Now to get on it and use it!
My stubbed toes are still a different shade and hurt, but I know there is nothing anyone can do. I will wait another week or so and if it still is hurting, may go see my podiatrist and have him x-ray and see if there is something that can fix it. Currently I cannot wear any of my heels and must stick to flat shoes. It's a pride issue. Women 'my age' have quit wearing heels; I enjoy wearing them and don't want to quit - it makes me feel a bit younger that I can still wear them and keep my balance. Of course I went from 5" to 3" a long time ago. I wore flats to church yesterday.
Take some time today to rejoice in the Lord and His goodness to you. He causes things to happen to get you out of situations that you shouldn't be in (thinking about War Room movie where the husband was getting ready to do something he shouldn't do, taking a lady that wasn't his wife out to dinner and she invited him to her apartment for some wine..... he was going to go, but when he was signing for the check, he 'all of a sudden started not feeling well, nauseated, and ran to the bathroom and cancelled the evening. Thus saving him from sinning against his wife and God. Rejoice in God's faithfulness to you. He provides for you. Yes, we may have to go through some things at times that aren't even from something we did (or didn't do) - but rejoice in His faithfulness to walk us through any trial, any journey that comes at us.
Gotta go - have an amazing day!
Blessings!
