Who am I kidding?

As I scrolled through my emails on aol and gmail this morning, skipping those I will 'read another time', I realize that I probably have 2-3+ years of those emails that 'I will read another time'.  Do you do that as well?  I need to get better at 'read now, or just delete'.  Right?  I get on the computer here int he mornings, and occasionally, not often, if things are lax during the day, I may skim emails during the day.  But I do the same thing then that I do in the mornings.  Skip over those 'Daily readings' that come through.  I do have good intentions.  I do want to read them.  But after all these years and I'm still not reading them?  I probably should just go ahead and start deleting, right?  Yeah, 'one of these days' I need to get the computer and hit 'a', and then 'b' and so on down the line and start deleting those messages that I never did get around to reading.  Do you do that as well?  No wonder I have over 1K emails!  I delete some, keep some for later reading, and never get around to it.  UGH.  I should delete the entire thing - but what if I delete something I really wanted to read?  Oh heavens to Betsy!  Can't let that happen!! Some day, but probably not today. Sigh.

Yeah, that is the thought in my head this morning.  We slept late.  We aren't going to church this morning. Let me explain.  I didn't go to the baby shower yesterday, but I did go to the 'girls night out' last night at church.  I do want to meet some women at church and did meet a few, and saw a few more that I am already acquainted with.  They had snacks and a boutique set up.  I did eat a snickerdoodle cookie (and it was as good as mine!) and I strolled through the boutique, but bought nothing.  The comedian wasn't that funny, I didn't think, although the lady next to me and whoever was behind me thought every thing she said was hilarious.  Nothing like hysterical laughter in your ears all night.  It ran over, time wise.  It was nearly 10PM when I got home and I was physically exhausted.  We went straight to bed.  I tossed and turned a lot, didn't sleep real well, and didn't arise until about 6:50AM.  I know, late for me!  Surprisingly, hubby stayed in bed as well; he says he didn't want to get up and wake me.  The thing is, his sighing, waiting for me to get up, wakes me up.

When I finally got up to come in here, the left jaw felt more swollen then yesterday.  My throat was sore (probably from snoring? Or at least sleeping with my mouth open?), and I just didn't feel like rushing about to get dressed for church.  I told hubby I wasn't going, so of course, he isn't either.  After my coffee, my throat isn't sore and although my jaw isn't throbbing, it is still puffy.  I'm trusting it to go down as the day goes by.  But I have the morning to just relax, I hope.

I do need to run to Sam's club and pick up some fruit trays.  I had meant to create the 'fruit tray' on my own, but I have decided now to pay the extra and get it from Sam's Club.  I am just not up to figuring out what to have and to cut up and do whatever with.  Theirs is there and ready to eat.  If we run out, we run out, right?  Otherwise, I will overdo it, as I often do, and send fruit home with everyone else.

I hear Ms. Diane's boys over at the house - they had an estate sale the past two days.  With it already raining once or twice this morning, I don't think they are going to try and have it today as well. I made them soup yesterday and took over; and one of the sons said I was 'sweet', and they wanted me to have the china set that belonged to their mother as a 'thank you'.  The day before he was wanting to charge me $40 for it - well worth it, but I didn't need another china set.  But I took it anyway, in case I wanted something different, or someone else wanted a china set.  LOL Hey, it was free!  Right?  Because I'm 'sweet'.

They still have a lot of 'stuff'.  I wonder if they will start hauling over to Goodwill (I suggested to them White Dove at 59th Ave & Bell cause all their 'profits' go to Hospice of the Valley, versus Goodwill taking all the profit.  Savers has Big Brother Big Sisters, of course.  White Dove has nice stuff set out, not cluttered like Savers and Goodwill, and they are cheaper than either one, I think.  I need to go back for a stroll sometime.  Not a lot of clothes, so if that is your thing, don't really bother; they have nice stuff though.

Psalm 119:18 (NIV):  Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law.

As much as people turn away from the Bible and its 'rules and laws', they really are not hard to follow.  It's a 'want to' situation, rather than a 'have to' situation.  Seriously.  Just look at the 10 Commandments!

Thou shalt have no other gods before Me.   That's really not hard.  Don't put money or material possessions before God.  Worship Him only.  Recreation, parties, food, drink, material things, - all these become idols when you put them before worshiping God.

That shalt not make unto thee any graven image.  That's not hard either.  Don't create something with your own hands, or even find something that has been created to 'worship' or look up to.  A chapel on top of a hill is not to be worshipped.  A new car is not to be worshipped. An award of any king is not to be worshipped.

Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.  For some people, this would be hard, I think.  Why do people think that if they say God ---- it that it's ok?  I can remember a friend, Phil Bullock, whom I used to work with many, many years ago, heard sone one say that and he interrupted them with My Father's name is God, and that is not His last name.  I would appreciate you not using it.  Took those people for a loop!  Why do people do that?  Or someone will say "For Jesus' sakes!" (I can remember my earlier generations saying that!)  Why do we have to bring God or Jesus into the picture when we say something?  Yes we also blame 'Pete' (for Pete's sakes!). Don't use God or Jesus' name in vain.  Use it only to worship and glorify Him.

Remember the Sabbath day; to keep it holy.  God created the world in 6 days, and on the 7th day he rested.  Which is why years ago, many of you do not remember), most restaurants and stores were closed on Sundays. (Yes, I can remember that).  They honored God by staying closed on Sunday, and giving their employees a true 'day of rest' and a day in which they could honor God.  Nowadays, especially in summer, people put recreation - boating, picnics, gatherings, in place of the time spent in church.  There is nothing wrong with any of those things - but are you giving time to God, to worship and acknowledge Him on the Sabbath?  Yes, today we aren't going to church. We will watch the service later.  BUT, we also have spent time in our 'quiet spaces' this morning, giving that time back to God first.  Justification? Perhaps in your eyes, but God wants our attention, and we are giving it to Him.  Don't use other things as an excuse NOT to spend time worshipping the One who created you.

Honor thy Father and thy Mother. There is much I can say about this one, but I think you understand what it means.  I don't look at us, but I look to see how our grandchildren respect their own parents.  Whether that respect is earned or not, children need to respect their parents.  I see some grandchildren with their hand out; "what can you do for me?" mentality.  I see some grandchildren who have become amazingly respectful and loving to all around them. I see some grandchildren who hold grudges and who mimic their parents. I'm not talking about just mine.... I know other 'old' people who have grandchildren!  I'm not judging anyone.  But I will ask these questions..... What are you doing to show respect for your parents?  Do you treat them hatefully, never helping them, never checking on them?  Do you touch base on occasion and just ask 'how are you doing?'.  Those things are important as we age.  (as a matter of fact, children, we are doing fine.)   Teach your children to respect you by respecting your parents, and respecting them.  It works both ways.  If they don't feel respected, they cannot respect you.

Ok, I am going to stop with those - and they are very important commandments.  How are you doing with those?  Sometimes the 'Thou shalt not kill' sounds much easier to keep, doesn't it - except you may kill them in your mind.  Something to think about.

And with that - I'm going to get off here.  Need to get my head wrapped around what I need to get done today before heading over to the great granddaughter's birthday party.  Hope the rain holds off. Have an amazing day!

Blessings!
