Avoid Sneaky Fat Traps.....

I'm sitting here trying to think what to write about and as I look at a magazine on my desk I see the 'Avoid Sneaky Fat Traps' on the cover. Gee, I wonder what that could mean. No, I haven't read the article yet. I am assuming things like eating that one girl scout cookie could lead into another, and another and another. For which I can attest to. Sigh. Or that one bite of chocolate. Perhaps it isn't even junk food. It's the second helping of..... and yet, it might even be low fat or low calorie. But is it good for me. Usually it isn't.... especially if we choose Mexican food that night. Well, I guess it depends on whether it is smothered in sauce or not, right? I wonder if we could order that sauce on the side.... never thought about that.

We could also consider the title 'Avoid Sneaky Sin Traps'..... Some of you know exactly what I am referring. The sharp word in retort. The "attitude" we give out. The sloughing off our work, thinking no one else works as hard as we do, so if we want to NOT do something, it should be ok. (Ok, that may not be a sin, but we are to work as unto the Lord, and I certainly do not want to slack off His work!) Anyway, you get the general idea, I think.

It doesn't matter if we are on a diet or if we are trying to live the Christian life, the enemy will attack us in sneaky ways. The enemy will try to get us to 'just have one bite' of something we said we wanted to give up. The enemy will try to get you to say things about other people. To treat other people wrongly, in word and in deed. The enemy will also get you down on yourself, get you to think how terrible you are - or how terrible other people are.

But you know what? The enemy is a LOSER!! All the enemy does is bring you down, beat you up and make you alone.

John 10:10 says: "The thief (the enemy) comes only to steal and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full."

Think about it - everything 'bad' takes something away. It destroys friendships, family, relationships. It brings heartache, illness, and at times, even death. You can learn alot from 'bad' things.... but what do you learn and apply? Do you continue to do what you have always done - and get what you always got?

If you yell and scream at your children and expect gratiude and love in return - do you really think they can freely give you obedience and love? Just because you were raised that way, doesn't mean you can't change the cycle.

If you eat behind closed doors because 'no one can see you, therefore, it doesn't count' and expect to get your body in shape - think again. (It hasn't worked for me in the past so I doubt if it will work for you!)

Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No matter what the enemy tries to do to you, or entice you to do, Jesus is our Overcomer, and He will help you NOT to eat that cookie. He will help you NOT to do something you shouldn't be doing. But you have to ask Him for help. You can to relinquish control and ask Jesus to take control.

Kinda like the song Carrie Underwood sung a few years back - "Jesus, take the wheel". Jesus has to be First.

I guarantee you, that if you put Jesus first in your life, and seek His face and His ways, you will experience so much joy that you will not be able to contain it.

Why not start today? Ask Jesus.... and avoid those sneaky traps the enemy puts before us.

Blessings!
