This morning in my quiet time, I read, prayed, and mediated for nearly an hour on what I thought God wanted me to share in my little 5 minute talk this morning at church - only ten minutes before I had to start getting ready - He changed it. I went from sharing about the woman who went to Simon's house because Jesus was there and shed many tears on Jesus' feet, letting down her hair and wiping His feet, kissing His feet in love and worship - to talking about Mark 12:30 where, when Jesus was asked what was the greatest commandment, He replied "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength". The Shema.
How do we do that? How do we love God with all our heart, with all our soul, with all our mind, and with all our strength? We do it in so many ways. When we think of Him and thank Him for the beauty around us, for our families, for our health, for our church, for friends, for so many blessings, they are too numerous to even mention. When we love God, we worship Him.
There are four things I want to share this morning about worship -
1. Worship is the first purpose of your life. You were created to worship God. He gives you everything you need, and many things you want - but He is the One to be worshipped - not what you have.
2. Anytime you express love to God, you are worshipping. On your way to work, do you see the sunrise - or on the way home, do you notice the sunset - and tell God how much you love Him and thank Him for drawing your attention to the beauty? Do you take moments throughout the day to just say 'I love you' to the One who loves you far more than anyone else ever could? Loving Him is worshipping Him.
3. God-pleasing worship is from the heart. Do you go to church and sing the songs just because you know them? Do you really look at the words and feel they are speaking what you want to say to Him? When you sing "Here I am to worship, Here I am to bow down, Here I am to say that You're my God".... do you really mean it with all your heart? God is pleased when we 'own' the words we sing in worship to Him.
4. Worship is delighting in and enjoying God. I love the term 'enjoying God'. I do enjoy Him! He makes my life worth living when I feel that life has been sucked out of me and my heart is heavy with disappointment and sorrow. He wants to bring me to the place of letting Him take over - and to do that, I have to let go. I choose to delight in my God and enjoy Him to the fullest.
Mark 12:30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.
Worship Him!
