My birthday has now come and gone and it was a good day. One of my bosses is not happy at all..... I guess he orderd flowers for me... and they didn't get delivered. They even called me yesterday morning and verified the address and wanted to confirm I would be home. I told them I would be home until 4:30PM and they said they'd be here before then. They were not. But I did receive lots of emails and ecards from friends at work and calls and/or texts from all my children and from most of my grandchildren. My siblings either called or text'd me. It was a very good day. Last night was a usual Tuesday night in that hubby had his study so I went to my daughters'. She bought dinner and after that we sat and crochet'd - same as usual. She was taking us to dinner tonight but it's been moved to Thursday night - so I need to figure out what to have tonight.
Counting down to vacation, still. This morning was another sleepy morning and I wanted to go back to sleep. I slept most of the night but was awake about 3:40AM so just got up. Took my 'pill' so had to stay sitting up for 30 minutes or so... really couldn't sleep. May try to get a ten minute nap in some time today if it isn't busy. I know I have a couple meetings I need to schedule from the 'get go'.
I received some cash for my birthday and I'm thinking about putting it towards an Apple watch. There isn't anything I need, and I wasn't expecting the cash. Yes, I could save it... but it IS my birthday money and with that I can do something that I wouldn't do normally, right? I've checked prices and talked to some that I knew had them. My little sister has a series 3 and loves it. Lori, my friend, has a series 5 and since she has afib, she loves how it monitors her heart so she can tell if something is going on. I know my brother is really encouraging me to get one. He has the series 6, but told me to get the series 7, which is the newest. It really does a lot of things. The series 7 has a bigger screen, you can talk through it, you can text on it, it monitors several things... including heart monitoring, and he can even see his glucose on his series 6. That would be good for diabetics. Did I mention you can talk through it without your phone? He doesn't have the cellular and said I didn't need it and he has been 200 ft away from his phone and can still talk on it. Oh - and if you fall or bump into something, it will ask if you are hurt. If you say yes, it will automatically call 911 for you. At my age, and considering I don't carry my phone around with me here in the house, it could come in handy. My brother said he could send hubby his old one if I get one. Since hubby is so afraid of falling and is unsteady on his feet, that could be a good thing. Will continue to think about it and make a decision by the time we get back from vacation. The youngest son said he could take me to the base exchange - it's about $30 cheaper than the Apple store and you don't pay tax. Oh it also monitors steps and lots of other things.
I don't remember.... did I tell you about this weird thing that happened yesterday? Where - without my touching my side table in here, my coffee cup tipped over? All by itself. It was empty, but it was as if someone had knocked it over. When I told hubby about it, he said the day before, in the front room where we have a few things on the 'coffee table', he was sitting in his recliner and a couple items on that coffee table fell off. No one was near it. Now for that, I could possibly think that our cleaning person set a couple light items close to the edge and the air conditioner blows directly on that area so could have blown it off. But my coffee cup? No explanation. Makes me want to go through the house and anoint it and pray through it again.
Jeremiah 29:11: "I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you."
I know many of us have heard that scripture many times and some of us even know it by heart. I know I have often quoted it to others as an encouragement to not give up, but push through, for if God has set them on that path, He will get them through it. You might not have it all together, but have peace knowing that you are God's treasure. He watches over each one of us, ready to help us. Many times He is just waiting for us to call on Him.
One of the emails I received yesterday reminded me of how our daily lives affect others. Even unknowingly. Without boasting, may I share some of what this person wrote to me? We were friends at another company and I had helped her get this job where I am now. There was a point tho that she turned against me because I had called her out on having idols in her house. But as I continued to be nice to her and not change how I treated her, and I prayed for her during a rough time when her husband got unexpectedly sick and she was out a year with heart trouble, she wanted to be friends again. Here is what she wrote: "I am reflecting when we first met back int he Centene days. The leadership you showed me, the tenacity and grace and love you poured onto everyone there. I was so impressed by you when I met you. Whenever I needed a friend to lean on you dropped everything and talked to me! .......I knew that I wanted to be an EA just like you and learn as much as I can for that role someday - I know God was listening to my heart and now I have a great career and so happy, since I learned so much from you. You even helped me get closer to God during these times. In the past year my heart was crying for a closer relationship with the Lord and I didn't know how to navigate that - there you were sending me these amazing daily books to read. As I read them, I cry and learn and opened my heart even more. I cannot thank you enough for that!....."
I am so humbled to read that God used me to help someone who needed Him. It's not about me at all, but about a merciful and gracious God who loves beyond measure and is always reaching out to His children. All we need to be is open and ready to share Him. People watch you, and just sometimes, they want what you have inside. Something to think about.
Blessings!
