about the yummy danish, that is. I did go out yesterday morning and cut me off about a 2" slice of the danish - and decided to heat it in the microwave a few seconds. It just sounded so good. Well, let me tell you, I believe that a danish should not be eaten warm. Why? Because I couldn't eat it after I warmed it up. So hubby did. Why? Because the dough is full of butter. I picked it up to take a bite and it felt so oily and it had even changed to an oily look/texture! Yeck. I just couldn't eat it. In full confession, I DID cut off a small slice later in the day and ate it cold. But, with having done without sweets the last three weeks, it also was (nearly) too sweet for me to eat! And that is a good thing, right?
Mid-afternoon I decided to head over to the store and pick up fresh milk (somehow we always end up throwing it away half full (even half gallons!) because I don't drink that much milk and hubby uses it in shakes and cereal - and the past three weeks he hadn't eaten cereal. Anyway - I decided I needed cilantro because I found an easy recipe for salsa verde. I had gotten a bag of tomatillos at the last combo box and didn't know how to use them. After I got back home, I decided to make some and see how it comes out. Oh my goodness! It is perfect - only I added too many jalapenos and it is very spicy hot! I had to put in the refrigerator to let it cool as one cooks the tomatillos with the onions, peppers and garlic - so it was quite warm heat wise when finished. But I still had to try it. Today will be better for it will be cold now. I am thinking I will take the remaining tomatillos and make another batch, but leave out the jalapenos (or use just the one I have left) and add to what I made last night and that just might cool it down some. Need to use them up anyway. But I am excited I learned how to make 'green salsa' for I do love the taste of it! Happy I found that quick and easy recipe!
Before I left for the store I had told hubby I needed to work on a message for February 11th, as that is the next time I'm at the RV park. The head of the Board contacted me Saturday that they are going to make that Sunday a memorial Sunday for all the RV people who had passed in the last year or so and wanted me to incorporate something in the message. So since I need to have title and scripture by next Sunday as they will be calling me, I got started on it. I have a title, and I have the scripture. I got about two pages typed up and hubby started coming in and out of the room. He just has to have me near him, unless I'm cooking, and then he doesn't bother me so much. But me being back here in my room doing something - even with the door open - he can't stand being 'alone' in the other room. And here I am, relishing the fact I CAN be alone for a little while in my room. I stopped working on the message and went to the grocery. Didn't cook dinner though, the roast we had for lunch was enough to fill us up; although I did eat 1/2 a peanut butter sandwich. Not sure what hubby munched on.
It's interesting.... after three weeks of not putting things in our bodies, while I was at the grocery, I didn't want to buy pizza, ice cream, and junk foods. I looked at them and would think - why would I put those toxins back in to my body after going three weeks without them? But they do taste so good! I decided (at this moment) to let those be things we treat ourselves to when we go out to eat. Once in a while eating isn't as bad as being lazy and pulling it out of the freezer when I don't want to cook, right?
Mark 9:35 (NKJV): "And He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, "If anyone desires to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all."
If one read that scripture by itself for the first time, they would probably wonder what in the world could that possibly mean! It's really an easy thought. We need to put others before ourselves. Don't laugh, but the thought that comes to my mind is exactly this example - although it's purpose may not be the same. Whenever we have my oldest son and his family over for dinner, he is more than willing to allow everyone else to help themselves to the food - even if it is his favorite! - and let them get all they want. Then he will go last and get what he wants. He wants to ensure everyone gets what they want, before he does.
And although he will shrug this off, that is exactly what Christ calls us to do. Let others go before us. Don't push our way to the front of the line. Don't be first. Put others before yourself. Just like a servant puts his master before himself, we are to do the same.
Now in all honesty, I do sometimes go first in a line, just to get the line moving! But as a rule, I will hang back, letting others get ahead of me, because it just isn't about me getting food. I won't die if I don't eat at that moment. I don't have to have the 'best seat'. I don't have to have it all. I can be last and be ok with it.
It's 'back to work Monday'... sigh. I know there are things that I need to get done for work. I also need to figure out how to share my screen and present slides at the board meeting on Valentine's day. Yes, that is our next scheduled board meeting. Should I pray it be cancelled? I'd like to. But I have to share the slides from my computer. I have managed to NOT do it for the past year - but my boss is now insisting I take it over. I tell him I can't do minutes if I have to do that - but now I have to figure it out. I don't want to even attend the meeting, let alone do the powerpoint slides! But I need to send a meeting invite to my personal computer and practice so that I know how to get rid of the other things that pop up and do the slides. I told him I'd get it done. Sigh. I will not miss these once I'm gone. And they really are not that hard to do - I just don't want to do them. Done them for years at the past three jobs. I don't want to do them.
My company has connected with Hello Heart and I was able to order a new blood pressure machine. I had a good one, but this one is synced to an app on my phone and each time I take my blood pressure, it records it in the app. (I gave the other one to hubby to use) It's pretty interesting, and I am dismayed that it does range usually in the low 130/70 range now. I guess it comes with age... and frustration at hubby and kids, right? I just took it and it was 138/75 with pulse at 54. I usually wait a few minutes and take it again as sometimes it catches it on the upward beat and it is always higher. Or it was the downward one first! LOL This one showed 144/82. Yeah, but I think it is because I've been sitting for the past 2.5 hours and my butt has put pressure on the vessels. That's a good excuse, right? I should get up and walk and get the blood flowing first, right? LOL Also, they say if you take deep breaths before you take your BP, that it will come down as well. I've done that in doctor's offices because I refuse to take BP pills. And I'm terrified at some point they will tell me I have to. But, by exercising and changing my eating habits, I should be able to keep it down. I used to have low blood pressure - but it is working its way up - probably due to my life. sigh.
Ok - gotta run and get ready for work! It's going to be a beautiful day!
Blessings!
