My day started at 4AM as usual yesterday. I got my quiet time done and actually stopped a little early so that I could fix breakfast before the grandson and his fiancee arrived. At least get it started, and I had the eggs ole' in the oven when they arrived. They brought several gifts for us; personal and together. They weren't to bring any! I think they liked the gifts we gave them... and we loved what we received. They both were definitely looking to the future, I think - they gave us several gifts we can do ourselves, but they suggested they were things we could do with the great-grandchildren. And we can, but some need to just get a little bit older. Can't wait to have play days with them!
After they left I got the turkey in the roaster, the cornbread baked and worked on retyping the message with all the changes I had made - that I need for tomorrow morning. I spent a few hours on that, then realized that I needed to get busy with dinner stuff. One of my friends had sent me an email earlier that she had awakened with a fever and achy body so would not be coming. About 4PM another friend arrived while I was in the middle of cooking - and because we were chatting, I kind of slacked off on the speed of getting things done... and not paying attention to some of what I was doing.... I forgot to add some things to some food, and well, when I realized I had left it out, I just sent up a quick prayer that it would still taste ok.... LOL ... and God is so good. He not only answered that prayer; He made it better! I thought it tasted better than before with it! What is really funny, I commented later in the evening that I had messed up on one item (no, I'm going to let you guess what it was)... and he asked what so I told him. His comment? I knew there was something different about it, I just couldn't put my finger on what was missing. Dude! It's a FILLER, not a FLAVOR! LOL
We had lots of leftovers (I guess I thought I was fixing for a crowd versus two additional people! Or, I was hoping for lots of leftovers to hand out. One didn't want any leftovers... the other only wanted turkey as they want to get back on their diet. Whatever! I text'd my son and asked if he wanted any.... and he does... and we get breakfast out of it this morning! I can put the leftovers in a bag and they will be fine as it is cool out (41 degrees by my computer!) while we eat breakfast. I always love spending time with them.
I am thinking about putting our Christmas tree up this afternoon - if I don't, it will be another week before I can get to it - and I've run out of room to stack presents. If I can get them under the tree, at least I can clear out the bedrooms! I only have one family's gifts wrapped up - still need to work on the others. And, I still need to buy more things. But I have time. I'm still at a loss for some; hopefully at breakfast today I can get ideas for some.
I'm thinking of the movie 'While you were sleeping' for some reason. Perhaps it is because it has a scene where Christmas gifts are being unwrapped and mom is excited she got a new watch; the daughter is excited she got pierced earrings; the grandmother made eggnog with way too much brandy in it... and everyone was laughing and happy. THAT's the way the exchange of gifts should be... not waiting on the next one, but being excited about what was received - or given, for that matter. That's why I try very hard to buy things that are unique and special for some... I want them to love what they are given. And, I'm trying to get away from the usual t-shirt with a funny saying on it for the grandsons... but what else is there?
I need to get busy on Christmas cards too. I volunteered to send 20 Christmas cards to a facility (through my work) to be passed out to members. We don't have to put names on them; all we need to do is write a note on the inside and then send them all to the activity director at the facility, I think it is. They will pass them out. Some people will take the time to create cards; I don't have that type of time... it's been a long while since I've created cards. I have several cards here and I can easily write a short note and sign it. I had thought earlier about asking my daughter-in-law if that could be done at her facility... it would be nice for people are inpatient on Christmas morning to have a card given to them. I'll have to remember and ask. We have gotten so many cards in the mail from different agencies that I don't see why I can't put them to use and pass them on.
Psalm 63:5 (NKJV): "My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness. And my mouth shall praise You with joyful lips."
With eating all we have the past couple of days... the fatness in this verse kind of stood out. I really didn't overeat.. I was 'full' but not as full as I have been in the past! I am finding I don't eat as much anymore; unfortunately, I also am not losing any weight because I am eating less. The sitting on the butt all day is taking it's toll, for sure. It just keeps spreading.... like butter melting. Oh my, what a photo that is in my mind!
Right now I think I can say my soul is satisfied. I am at rest and calm; my peace is within. His praise is always on my lips, for God has been so gracious and so kind, so loving and forgiving to me; He is my Help, my Strength, my Nail in a Sure Place. My mouth will always praise Him. He is so good to me, even when I don't deserve it.
Well, I was at rest and peace until a moment ago. Sigh. Hubby can always find a way to turn my joy into irritation. It's a talent for him, I think. Let's see what I can stir up in this moment. Yeah, he can do that. I've never met anyone who can be so negative about so many things. Staying positive at times is very difficult.
I burned my knuckle Thursday taking some things out of the oven... I never realized before how often I bang that specific knuckle... but I do now. I've pulled that blister off a few times now. Sure hope it can heal soon.
And, because I need to get dressed and look presentable... and because I can't think of anything to write... I will hush and get on with my day. Looking forward to breakfast with my son and daughter-in-law; grateful for the invite.
May your day be full of peace and joy... and may your rest be found in Him.
Blessings!
