I keep distracting myself with other things instead of writing in here. Do I have nothing to write about? Obviously. I really want a nap. Hubby reached over and touched my side this morning, waking me up, at 2:30AM! He does that to see if I'm still in bed. I was - and it woke me. Must have been in my light slumber mode. I then laid awake for most of the next hour before getting up.
Happy Valentine's Day! Hubby did bring me in a nice Hallmark card this morning with some nice words written in it. No, I didn't buy a card, but I did send him one via email. If you recall, as I think I have shared, we agreed not to buy any gifts and get away (next week!) for a few days. I am so looking forward to it!
Yesterday wasn't too bad at work.... it was one of those that I had enough to keep busy, but not overly so. Boss gave me a contract to do at 3:50AM and I told him 'no'. I get off at 4PM and I'll do it first thing this morning - and I will. What will be my biggest headache (that I know of right now) is the board meeting at 1PM at which I will have to do the slide presentation. I don't want to, for sure. I don't even want to attend! But, alas, it's part of the job. Then I'll have to type minutes. Oh joy.
Went to Sam's Club yesterday as I didn't meet up for girls night out and hubby did meet his friend. I spent a lot, but we were out of a lot of things. I probably would have spent more - but got saved. I got notified by my phone that I was down to 14 percent battery. I had to hurry and finish up - I do the 'scan and go' - which I love - and I would need to close it out before my phone shut off. Who wants to stand in line? Although not many people do anymore; everyone loves the scan and go. I know I do! Still, I didn't buy many groceries it seems. Prices are getting outrageous and I will need to make a decision on what is critical to buy and what is not a necessity. Just because we like it, doesn't mean I have to buy it every time. But for now, we are set for at least a month.
Today is not only Valentine's day, but also Ash Wednesday, and the first day of Lent. There are 40 days leading up to Easter. We usually give up something for Lent, but we haven't discussed it yet. Not that we need to; it's a personal decision. I've mulled it around in my mind the past few days as to what I'd give up. I COULD give up the TV again, but don't know if hubby would. He really did miss it, although he did get a lot of reading done. I could give up desserts, but we really don't eat desserts by themselves. I could do my BBCD (beef, bread, chocolate, desserts) again.... maybe I will. It isn't easy, cause occasionally I do like a good hamburger, although I will admit that I bought us hamburgers the other day for lunch - with french fries - and only ate half of either. Just didn't taste good. And for the ridiculous price we have to pay now for 'fast food', I wish I hadn't bought them! So what are you giving up for Lent?
You will see many Catholics and Lutherans (I'm not sure if other religions do this) go to their 'priest' and get a smudge of ashes on their forehead. Our 'religion' has never done that. In fact, it has been in the last 40 years I'd say, that I even heard about fasting for Lent. I don't know if I ever heard of our church fasting as I grew up. Never even knew what fasting was until about 40 years ago. And fasting the first 21 days of the year was a new thing as well as fasting 40 days for Lent. Now it seems like I'm missing something if I DON'T fast. I used to fast one day a week.... but fell out of that. I want to get back into fasting one day a week, but for some reason I struggle with it. Hopefully, time alone with God this next week when we take off, I will be able to sort through my issues in not doing it.
Valentine's Day - celebrate with those you love. Even if you don't buy a card, send them a text. Ash Wednesday - take some time to reflect on your life and where you are with God. Do you have some things you need to confess to Him? Start today and turn your life over to Him and watch what He will do for you. First day of Lent - what would you choose to 'give up' for Jesus, to draw nearer to Him? Why not spend some time with Him and ask what He would want you to do?
And..... I've wasted time this morning and now need to get on the work computer. Contract to input, board meeting to prepare for. Things that make me want to retire. It's all part of the job. I like to eat; guess I'll keep working.
Blessings!
