I did it! And then some.....

Yesterday morning around 9AM I started out on my heart walk that I was doing virtually with the company.  As mentioned before, I really did not want to go downtown with a crowd, so when offered to do it virtually, I signed up.  I was surprised that hubby chose NOT to do any walking with me; I had expected him to walk with me for about 20 minutes and then head back, but he did not.  So I took off walking.  And I walked.   Checking my fitbit and seeing that I had gone almost 1.5 miles, I decided to work my way back to the house.  After all, 3.1 miles was all I had to do for the heart walk.  But, being directionally challenged, I turned right instead of left..... and after awhile, the street names did not ring a bell at all.  So I pulled out my phone and checked 'home' on my map.  Oh yeah.  I had gone 1.1 miles in the wrong direction.  So I turned around and headed back.  I ended up with 4.6 miles when I got back home, and almost six miles by the end of the day.  Yes, my hips are still sore from all the walking.  But I would do it again - even the exra mile.  It felt so good getting out and walking, breathing fresh air, and yes, I was singing and talking to God the majority of the time.  And, by the time I realized I had walked so far and had to walk the 1.1 mile back before I could get back on track, I was praying I could make it home!  I sat out in the courtyard for about 10 minutes before I went in to the house.  Then hubby insisted on pouring me a cup of coffee.... and all I wanted to do was sit for a bit and drink my water.  But to make him happy, I sipped a bit at the coffee before I could dump the rest.  I needed water (I did take some with me), not hot coffee.

But I enjoyed my walk.  I met several people out walking their dogs and some just out walking.  All were friendly and we all waved and said 'Good Morning' before moving on.  I'm hoping that at least one day over each weekend I can do a walk.  It felt good.  I'm sore this morning still in my hip joints, but that's ok.  I'll get over it.

Hubby obviously didn't eat breakfast, waiting on me to get home to fix it for him I guess.  I did not.  He fussed at me about 'you need to eat something'.  Instead of cooking, I ate a protein bar.  I finally told him, as it was after 11AM, that if we do a late lunch OR an early dinner, we can skip one or the other meal.  He opted for us to go at 2PM - as I knew he would.  Then where to go.  I told him I still had the gift cards that two of our grandsons had given us for Christmas so gave him the choices on one card.  We ended up at Red Lobster.  Of course when he saw the prices he squirmed a bit (as he should!), and was having difficulty deciding what to get.  I finally made the decision for us and we got the 'date night meal for two'.  It had lobster, steak, shrimp, baked potatoe, and a big dish of bacon mac n cheese.  It was $71.99 but I told him our gift card totaled $50 so I'd pay the rest.  It was more than enough for both of us.  I'm not big on lobster or shrimp; don't care that much for it, but it was all good.  We even brought leftovers home and he will have them for dinner tonight.  It's not that I don't eat leftovers, but he usually eats my leftovers and I find something else because I don't want it.

Today we head over to the RV park for the last message of this season.  I'm ready for it and have already gone over it this morning.  After I finish this I will hit the shower and start getting ready.  We usually go out to eat on the way home; will see what he decides for us to do.  I'm content with coming home and fixing myself a sandwich, but with him, I have to fix more than that.... so I'm also content with going out so that I don't have to cook a meal.  I don't have anything thawed out today - but I could throw some chicken in a bowl of water while we're gone.  And I might do that......

One of the topics today in the message is going the extra mile in being generous.  Did you know that most waiters and waitresses do not like to work on Sundays?  Why?  Because 'Christians' can be the most demanding and tip the least amount.  If we are to be like Jesus, we should be generous with all that He has given us.  Not just finances, but in life.  Go the extra mile for people.  If someone needs something and you have it and don't use it - let them have it.  I read in one of Mark Batterson's books that a pastor from another church had asked him in their pastor study to pray that his church could get a new computer as the other one they had had died.  So as Mark started to pray, God brought to his mind a computer he had put in a closet because it wasn't being used.  He didn't pray for it.  After he finished praying, he told this pastor that he didn't need to pray for it, because God reminded him he had a computer in his closet that could be given to him.  God is like that.

Be generous with what God has given to you.  What you have, and you give away, God will give you above and beyond.  I give away lots of things... and I may not get the same thing back, but I am always blessed when I let go.  Haven't seen a hearse pulling a u-haul truck yet so I'm pretty sure we can't take it with us when we die.  I am trying to let go of things more and more.  Not just to give away to someone who needs them.  I don't want my children to have to go through 'things' and 'stuff' when they don't have to.  My big brother called me the other day and said he was still going through things (papers) of our mother's.  Most was nothing to keep - but she did.  He did find my very first social security card - and mailed it to me.  And a letter from my oldest brother he had written to mother when he was in the Navy.  Now that is a treasure for me.  I miss my big brother a lot.

Ok - need to hit the shower so am wishing you a very blessed day.  Take some time to think about where you are in life; and what you need to change in order to be like Jesus.  Need to be more humble?  Need to own up to some areas of vulnerability?  Need to find someone to hold you accountable?  All these are things that help us grow.  What do you need?

Blessings!
