Well, not necessarily 'it' but my glasses!! I can not, for the life of me, remember where I put them! I don't know if I left them at Denny's when we ate there the other night or laid the down somewhere here in the house. I laid awake until about 1PM this morning looking for them. I 'discovered' they were missing when we sat down to watch the Olympics opening.
I don't wear my glasses unless I have to. I'm nearsighted, but I can still see 'out' - it just isn't completely focused. For example, without my glasses coming down the road I can't read the street sign - but if on the freeway, I can read it cause it is bigger print. Like now, I am on my computer and I don't used glasses. Don't even like wearing my contacts to read - which is why I don't use anything.
But, to watch TV and see everything clearly, I do like to wear my glasses. I did find an older pair, so I'm not completely at a loss, but they are bifocals instead of transitional. I think that is what they call it. So in other words, they can be annoying at times.
So, I'm still looking for my glasses this morning. Yes, I prayed to find them. Maybe it is time to just get new ones; these are about 5 years old, I think. Prescription hasn't changed, but style definitely has.
Losing my glasses can be a good thing, I guess. It makes me ponder on how we sometimes lose our focus on God. When we read our Bibles (contacts), go to church (glasses) we think that we can see clearly on how we are to live. And we do. Well, if you really read, pray and understand the Bible, and if you really listen to the pastor and participate in worship you know how to live.
But what happens when you start missing that church service here and there; you stop praying; you stop worshiping?
You begin to lose sight for the One who adores you. You lose your focus on keeping your eyes upon Him. You begin to look around and see - nearsightedly - those things close to you.
Like trouble. Well, things that can get you deeply in sin, that is. You notice more the irritations from your spouse, your children. (For the record, Grandchildren are not in this category) You start belly aching about how mistreated you are, how ungrateful your family is for all that you do.
Geez. Get with it! Grab your internal glasses and turn your eyes back to Jesus! He is the author and perfecter of your life. He is the One who will guide you and direct your path - but you have to give Him permission to interfere in your life. That's the hard part. The easy part is letting Him lead.
Try it - hopefully you will find your internal glasses much more satisfying than these things around you.
In the meantime, I'm looking for my external glasses! I need to go to the store so guess I need to put in my contacts!
Blessings!
